Read on for brief synopses of each.

Elijah Wood Not Messing Around on the Set of Maniac

If there's one thing you're going to take away from the following three behind-the-scenes images from the set of the Maniac remake, it's this - Elijah Wood is NOT screwing around. We like what we see!

The Daily Mail scored the images that you see below featuring Wood in character, knife held high and victim (Genevieve Alexandra) at his feet. The good natured Mr. Frodo would shit himself at the sight of such a scene.

Directed by Franck Khalfoun and produced by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Lavasseur, Maniac casts Wood in the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

The upcoming remake of the William Lustig film is shooting now in Los Angeles.

Bryan Singer Gets Behind Munsters Redux

Some really interesting news coming in for the television remake of the classic show "The Munsters". A big name director is getting behind the project guns blazing, and we have to admit we've never been more curious. Read on for the skinny.

According to Deadline NBC’s "The Munsters" will be brought to you by The Bryans. X-Men and Superman Returns helmer Bryan Singer is finalizing a deal to direct and executive produce Bryan Fuller’s reboot of the 1960s comedy, which recently received a pilot order by NBC.

Universal Television is producing the project, described as an imaginative reinvention of "The Munsters" as a visually spectacular one-hour drama. Singer, who has been interested in the project since before it was greenlit by NBC two weeks ago, will executive produce with Fuller.

After originally developing "The Munsters" last season, Fuller redeveloped it with NBC’s new executive team this summer and delivered his new script at the beginning of this month. Like Fuller’s previous series, "Pushing Daisies", "The Munsters" calls for striking visuals mixed with all the classic "Munsters" archetypes, and NBC had been looking for a top director to create the world of "The Munsters" circa 2011.

More as it comes.

RaroVideo Announces Two New December Horror DVD Releases: Body Puzzle & Murder Obsession

0
0

Hailed by cinephiles for expertly restoring rare films by influential filmmakers and publishing them with compelling extras, Italian DVD label RaroVideo announces two rare horror titles slated for release on December 6th: Lamberto Bava's Body Puzzle and Riccardo Freda's Murder Obsession.

Lamberto Bava’s Body Puzzle tells the tragic and increasingly morbid story of the lovely widow Tracy (Gorky Park’s Joanna Pacula). Not only has her famous pianist husband Abe died in an auto accident, but someone keeps breaking into her house and leaving severed body parts lying around. A candy store owner is gutted, a poor woman has her hand lopped off in a public bathroom, a young swimmer is castrated, and so on. The investigating police officer, Michael (The Church’s Tomas Arana), strikes up a hot and heavy romance with her to keep Tracy’s mind off the rapidly accumulating trophies. Michael’s supervising police chief (spaghetti western pro Gianni Garko) tells him to keep his mind on his job; soon Michael concludes that Abe’s protege and probable male lover, unable to cope with the accident, is responsible for the killings. The clincher is the mysterious link between all of the victims.

Lamberto Bava's Body Puzzle

Riccardo Freda’s Murder Obsession revolves around actor Michael Stanford (played by Stefano Patrizi), who, while taking a break from shooting a horror film, visits his mother (Anita Strindberg) at their old mansion. The only other person on the property is Oliver (played by John Richardson), the eccentric butler. Michael’s girlfriend, Deborah (Silvia Dionisio), and some of their filmmaking friends join Michael at the mansion for a couple of days' rest. Michael reveals that he murdered his father (who was a famous orchestra conductor) during a psychotic episode when he was a child. And therefore he is immediately suspected as the murderer when his friends start getting killed.

Akira Synopsis Leaks Online

Remember our last story when I said nothing stays quiet on the interwebs for long? Here's another fine example for you! The synopsis for Jaume Collet-Serra's big screen adaptation of Akira has leaked online (that sounds so ... nasty), and it bodes really well for fans because it's as faithful as can be.

Garrett Hedlund will play Kaneda, Kristen Stewart may be Ky, Ken Watanabe may be The Colonel, and Helena Bonham Carter may be Lady Miyako. However, the only one officially on board thus far is Hedlund.

Synopsis
Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel.

Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but, after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

Jesse Eisenberg Looking to Double-Tap Lionsgate Over Camp Hell

It happens all the time. Little movies come out that feature now big-name stars who were nobody upon filming, and all of a sudden said star is pissed about one thing or another. Such is the case with Jesse Eisenberg, who's actually suing Lionsgate over how he's represented in the marketing for a flick called Camp Hell.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eisenberg has filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for allegedly turning his less-than-five-minute cameo in the horror flick Camp Hell into an above-the-title star turn. The actor is using the Los Angeles Superior Court to make a point. According to the complaint "Eisenberg is bringing this lawsuit in order to warn his fans and the public that, contrary to the manner in which Defendants are advertising the film, Eisenberg is not the star of and does not appear in a prominent role in Camp Hell."

Eisenberg is demanding $3 million in damages, more than the budget of the film. Sure, Jesse. We're sure you're just so damaged.

Hammer Films to Adapt Cherie Priest's Boneshaker for the Big Screen

    0
    0

Hammer FilmsBrian Oliver, President of Cross Creek Pictures; Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media Group and President & CEO of Hammer Films; and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media Group, announced that Hammer has acquired the rights to Cherie Priest's novel Boneshaker, which will be co-produced by Hammer and Cross Creek and co-financed by Exclusive and Cross Creek.

    From the Press Release:
John Hilary Shepherd, a 2010 WGA Award nominee for his work on the first season of the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie,” is writing the screenplay. Tobin Armbrust, Head of Production, is overseeing the project’s development for Hammer Films.

An example of “steampunk” science-fiction, which incorporates futuristic innovations into a Victorian setting, Priest’s novel is set in an alternate version of 1880s Seattle, where the city has been walled in and a toxic gas has turned many of its remaining residents into “Rotters,” more commonly known as zombies. A young widow hunts for her teen son in the Seattle underworld while dealing with airship pirates, a criminal overlord, and heavily armed refugees. Boneshaker was nominated for a 2010 Hugo Award for Best Novel and won the 2010 Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel.

The novel, published in 2009 by Tor Books, is the first in a series set in the same Civil War-period, alternate-world Priest has dubbed “The Clockwork Century.” The series’ second novel, Dreadnought, was published in 2010, and the third, titled Ganymede, was recently released online and in bookstores on September 27th.

Tor Books is releasing the fourth novel in the series, Inexplicables, in 2012 and last week announced a deal with Priest for her to write a fifth novel in “The Clockwork Century” series. The fifth book will be called Fiddlehead.

“First and foremost, this is a great story. Bringing a steampunk style novel to life on the big screen is going to be very cool, very unique,” said Tobin Armbrust.

“Boneshaker is a classic zombie movie with a modern twist, which is quintessentially Hammer, so it’s a perfect fit for us,” said Simon Oakes. “Cherie Priest’s steampunk series are fantastic with a distinct, unique style, and we’re really looking forward to bringing her ‘Rotters’ to the big screen.”

“It’s like Jules Verne meets ‘Resident Evil,’ and we’re thrilled to have such a fun, commercial potential franchise in Boneshaker,” says Oliver. He continues: “John’s an exciting screenwriter, and we see this being a real crowd pleaser.”

Look for more soon as a director and cast are lined up for what sounds like a very cool project indeed!

Exclusive Interviews with Chillerama's Adam Green, Joe Lynch, and Kristina Klebe

    0
    0

Last night we hit the Dark Delicacies signing for the November 29th release of anthology film Chillerama and while there chatted with Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom, Wrong Turn 2), two of the flick’s four directors (Adam Rifkin and Tim Sullivan round out the directorial posse), as well as actress Kristina Klebe to get the skinny on the debut as well as their upcoming projects.

In addition to the principals listed above (the flick recently wrapped its "Roadshow" tour of the U.S. and is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and Netflix Streaming), cast members Kane Hodder, Lin Shaye, and Anton Troy and composer Bear McCreary were on hand to lend their Hancocks at the packed signing, where fans and horror luminaries alike (Mick Garris, Dave Parker, Mike Mendez, Neil Marshall, Axelle Carolyn and more were also in attendance) had gathered to celebrate the cinematic love letter that is Chillerama.

Dark Delicacies Hosts Chillerama Signing Event

Said Green of the enthusiastic response to Chillerama while happily signing away, “It has been way beyond what we had hoped. I mean, it was such a weird movie and we were making it for such a niche group of people that would appreciate something like this, but it spread out so far beyond that.

Green, who with Lynch is currently writing, producing and starring in the multi-camera sitcom series "Holliston" for FEARnet and who has in the past written and directed the genre features Frozen and Hatchet and its sequel expounded, “What’s been most gratifying to me is that so much of my fan base, at least from the Hatchet stuff, is a younger fan base, like when you go to a convention and you’ll ask them what movies they like, and they’ll say, ‘Well, I didn’t really like John Carpenter’s Halloween,’ and you have to understand that they are from a newer generation, even though you want to punch them in the face for saying something like that. But they were able to appreciate Chillerama when most of them have never been to a drive-in and didn’t really see the movies that we are sort of paying homage to in it, but they were still able to have fun with it, and that was really special because hopefully they are going to start finding these movies and start looking into this type of stuff, which would really be great.

As for the series "Holliston," which posits Green and Lynch as two aspiring filmmakers who host a late-night cable access program titled "The Movie Crypt" (FEARnet is describing the series as "Wayne’s World meets Saw") Green said, “We just wrapped production, and last night in Austin, Texas, Joe [Lynch] and I did a charity event for disabled veterans where we showed some of Chillerama and then we showed the first ever footage from "Holliston", and I was very nervous because it’s a real sitcom and not one that makes fun of or is an homage to sitcoms, so I didn’t know what to expect of their reaction. You could tell during the first two minutes that the crowd was like, ‘Holy shit, this is so weird,’ and then they were so into it by the end. When we finished with the last clip, it was like an uproarious cheering applause, which was a great start to it. I hope the horror community gets behind it because it’s a risky thing for FEARnet to produce. It’s going to be their first show, and we aren’t doing what anyone expects. We are making a sitcom for our audience and our friends if they talked about the kind of stuff that we are into and if they randomly stabbed each other sometimes. Random acts of violence and the fact that [GWAR’s] Oderus Urungus is my character’s imaginary friend on the show? No other network would allow us to do that.

In regard to the status of the third film in the Hatchet franchise (which will star the returning Kane Hodder as hillbilly slasher Victor Crowley and Danielle Harris as the flick’s final girl), “It’s supposed to start shooting in April,” revealed Green. “I’ve been working with the director, BJ McDonnell, and developing the script, and he’s been shooting (as camera operator) Tom Cruise’s new movie One Shot, which doesn’t wrap until Christmas Eve. I’ve been so busy with Chillerama and "Holliston" and Killer Pizza (the latter is a property Green’s been developing with Greg Taylor that has been acquired by MGM, which revolves around a 14-year-old kid who takes a summer pizzeria job only to find that it’s secretly a front for a monster-hunting organization) that I haven’t really had a chance to work on Hatchet III. But once he gets back into town, we are going to sit down and really start ironing it out.

We have all of the ideas,” Green continued of Hatchet III, “and I’ve had the story since I made the second film, but I really want to give BJ a chance to have his influence on it as a director, which has been fun because normally with most of the stuff it’s like I run the show, but now answering to someone else where I’m like, ‘What about this?’ and he’s like,’ Well, that’s cool, but what about this?’ and they are great ideas and then I’m back to the drawing board is exciting. I’m excited he’s putting his imprint on it. One of the important things was - without giving away what’s going to happen at the end - is that I want him to feel like he came up with what happens at the end of the film because he’s directing the movie, and I don’t want it to be just him exercising my ideas. I want his input, and he’s really embraced that and has been working hard, which is another reason why I feel like I made the right choice. BJ’s out for blood with Hatchet III, and he’s dying to do this, and he’s plotting and scheming. It’ll also be exciting to kind of kick back and watch them make the movie and to be there to help and to advise, but it’s like sending your kid off to college.

Lynch then riffed for us on the beginnings of Chillerama and its gonzo future, “Even when we first conceived the idea, Tim [Sullivan] and Adam [Rifkin] had kind of come to us, sort of like Roger Corman would do, where it’s like, ‘We have a poster, and now we want to go make a movie for this poster.’ What’s great about that is that they actually had posters so we really felt like the ‘Corman machine’ was back at it again. So what we originally wanted to do was to come up with weird titles and then hand them off to other directors and say, ‘Here you go. Here’s no money and no time, and here’s a camera.’ The idea [for a sequel] is to come up with three or four new guys to exploit... I mean collaborate with,” Lynch laughed, “and to make Chillerama Volume 2. We want to have a whole library so [to the fans] please don’t download it. Buy it so that we can make the sequel.

As for what we may see in the follow-up, Lynch stated sarcastically, “If it happens, there’s a very good chance that one of the installments will be Deathication Part 2. It will be a ‘found footage’ film where [the character of] Fernando Phagabeefy basically puts cameras in bathrooms and watches people poop. It’ll be directed by Kristina Klebe. She’s going to love it!

Speaking with actress Klebe (one of the stars of Green's "Diary of Anne Frankenstein" segment), who commenced shooting the noir feature The Advocate this week, she told us of her interest in shooting that psychological thriller as well as of her enjoyment in genre acting (in addition to Chillerama, she previously appeared in the gritty Rob Zombie Halloweeen redux), “I grew up with movies like The Shining so I really like that suspenseful, Hitchcock thriller style of movie, although I must say that I realized that the most fun you can have as an actor in coming from a theater background is in a horror film. Normally roles are very serious and you are stuck in a confined situation and you just have to say your lines, but in a horror movie you get to run around and scream and kind of act ridiculously but in a believable way so it is actually more fun!
