"The Secret Circle" Episode 1.11 "Fire/Ice" (1/12/12 Air Date; 9:00-10:00 PM):
FAYE’S QUEST FOR POWER THREATENS THE CIRCLE — Cassie (Britt Robertson) asks Adam (Thomas Dekker) for help when she wants to look into her father’s past, and their search leads them to an eerily familiar place. It also rekindles an old flame when Adam, thrilled to be spending time with Cassie again, asks her to the Fire and Ice dance. But because of her friendship with Diana (Shelley Hennig) Cassie is forced to give a surprising response.

In an effort to be a better father, Ethan (Adam Harrington) offers to chaperone the dance, much to Adam's dismay.

Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) asks Lee (guest star Grey Damon; "Friday Night Lights", "True Blood")) to help her with a spell that would grant her individual magic. Unfortunately, the spell has some terrifying side effects that nearly destroy the Circle.

Jessica Parker Kennedy also stars. Joshua Butler directed the episode written by Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead.

Gregory Lamberson Has Three New Books and a Feature Film Planned for the New Year

While most of us are just starting to formulate a game plan for the upcoming new year, author and filmmaker Gregory Lamberson already has three new books on tap for 2012 as well as a feature film in the works, Scaremonger, starring Debbie Rochon.

From the Press Release:
Gregory Lamberson has unveiled a trio of horror books which will be published in 2012: Carnage Road, The Frenzy War, and Tortured Spirits.

First up is the zombie novella Carnage Road, which Creeping Hemlock Press publishes April 3rd through its Print Is Dead imprint. The tale centers on Boone and Walker, the last two members of the Floating Dragons motorcycle gang, who set out on a cross country odyssey during the zombie apocalypse.

Lamberson explains, “When RJ and Julia Sevin from Creeping Hemlock Press asked me to write a novella for their new line, I tapped into my love for Easy Rider, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Lonesome Dove to tell a story about two bikers who travel across America during the zombie outbreak and experience what happens when the government falls. It isn’t a pretty picture, but it may be my most personal work, and I really enjoyed writing the characters.”

Medallion Press will publish The Frenzy War, sequel to Lamberson’s werewolf novel The Frenzy Way, in June. “When I wrote the first book, I knew there was enough material for one sequel, but I didn’t expect to write a whole series,” says Lamberson. “I’m not interested in being known as ‘the werewolf guy’ any more than I am ‘the zombie guy.’ But I think the sequel turned out so rich and complex that I now expect ‘The Frenzy Cycle’ to run four or five books. I love telling big stories with multiple characters.”

Gregory Lamberson Has Three New Books and a Feature Film Planned for the New YearGregory Lamberson Has Three New Books and a Feature Film Planned for the New Year

October will see Medallion’s publication of Tortured Spirits, the fourth book in the occult detective series “The Jake Helman Files.” The story begins in New Orleans shortly after the events in Cosmic Forces, which now send private investigator Helman on a personal quest to a Caribbean island where a dictator uses voodoo to impose his will on the local population. Helman’s actions stat a revolution that involves several thousand zombies.

“This fourth book is the biggest and most action-packed story I’ve written, and it serves as a climax to the story so far,” says Lamberson. “I’d love to see the series run twelve novels, but if I make it to six, I’ll have told the story I set out to tell and will have subjected my hero to a lot of horror. Jake’s emotional and physical well being changes from book to book so he’s never the same guy twice.”

All three new titles will be published day and date as print editions and e-books.

Lamberson is also currently writing a top secret project for Medallion which involves cutting edge technology; the film Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast, which he co-produced, is in post-production; and he’s developing a new film called Scaremonger to star Debbie Rochon.

“The script for Scaremonger is written, Debbie’s on board, and I’ve reached out to other actors who are interested. The challenge, as always, is raising the money, and that’s a bigger challenge now than ever before. The economy is forcing indie filmmakers to work on increasingly smaller budgets or switch to making web series. I showed what I can do with $50,000 on Slime City Massacre, and I want to move forward as a filmmaker, not backward. This one may need to gestate for a while. I’d also like to make Slime 3 down the road and a version of Frankenstein.”

Another new web series crossed our path recently, and because yours truly is such a sucker for anything vampire-related, I thought I'd pass on the info. Blood and Bone China, from the UK, is a 12-part Victorian vampire web drama series, created and directed by award-winning Stoke-on-Trent based filmmaker Chris Stone and starring TV's Rachel Shenton as Anna Fitzgerald.

Synopsis:
It is 1897, and a city is in turmoil. In the smoky, dirty depths of middle England, the people are terrified. The once bustling streets of Stoke are empty, the silence broken only by the whispers of devils, demons, and vampires. Poor souls are being taken, vanishing without a trace.

When the local doctor is snatched away, word travels to his brother, a young vet by the name of Newlyn Howell. Spurred on to discover the truth by the enigmatic Alexander Pyre, Newlyn's dark adventure into the depths of Victorian Stoke begins... and what he discovers is beyond belief.

Along with Shenton the cast includes Anthony Miles and John James Woodward.

Check out a few images, the trailer, and the first couple of episodes below; and for more visit the official Blood and Bone China website, "like" Blood and Bone China on Facebook, and follow Blood and Bone China on Twitter.

Piranha 3DD Theatrical Release STILL on Track in the U.S.

Rest easy, kids! After reports of Piranha 3DD heading straight to DVD in the UK surfaced, everyone began to wonder if it would sadly meet the same fate here in the States. Thankfully, things are still looking good.

Our friends over at the The Daily Dead recently caught up with co-writer Patrick Melton, who was more than happy to put out those nasty Internet rumor fires.

"To clarify, the Thanksgiving release was always overly optimistic. Marcus and I started writing the script around Thanksgiving a year prior," Melton tells the site. "Making the film within that time period is plausible (we’ve done it on Saw, obviously), but it became clear very early on that our goals were not realistic because we needed sun, water slides, and bikini-clad coeds ... three things not very prevalent in the United States during the months of January and February. We initially scouted Louisiana and realized that we wouldn’t be able to shoot until late March because of the cold weather. Now, with the additional FX work needed to create/enhance the piranhas, the Thanksgiving release was out the window."

Melton continues, "Nevertheless, we plowed on and finished shooting in late May. Over the summer, Gulager edited and picked up a few shots around Los Angeles. This is typical of every movie made. Scenes, jokes, and kills were simply enhanced to make the movie more of an event. About a month ago, it was tested and scored very well. So well the studio gave us more money to enhance the FX. Soon, it’ll be done and ready for a theatrical release. Because of the 'Spring Break' vibe in the film, spring was the obvious time to open it. And because Dimension Films financed the movie and owns the movie, they call the shots on when it’s released worldwide."

Piranha 3DD reteams Feast director John Gulager and writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan in the sequel starring Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff.

    Synopsis
Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Thought they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being ... but can they be stopped?

Reverend Bob Larson Talks Real-Life Exorcisms and Possessions for The Devil Inside

Reverend Bob Larson Talks Real-Life Exorcisms and Possessions for The Devil InsideIn general we don't get all that religious around these parts (we leave that to the professionals!), but when you're invited to talk to a world-famous real-life exorcist, you just don't pass up a unique interview opportunity like that.

This Friday Paramount Pictures' latest genre effort, The Devil Inside, is set to possess theater-going audiences everywhere, and in anticipation of the film's release, Dread Central sat down for an exclusive chat with Reverend Bob Larson, the world’s foremost expert on cults, the occult, supernatural phenomena and exorcisms.

Larson starred as a real-life exorcist in his own TV reality show seen worldwide called "The Real Exorcist," and he hosts in various cities around the world weekly Spiritual Freedom Seminars, which feature live exorcisms being performed by Larson in front of packed auditoriums.

We spoke with the renowned Reverend about his experiences battling real-life cases of possession, separating fact from fiction regarding the depiction of exorcisms in cinema, and whether or not Paramount's The Devil Inside gets it right with its story.

While it might be easy to think that Reverend Larson wouldn't be the least bit interested in seeing horror flicks, it turns out that he does see a few from time to time - usually exorcism-themed movies, a subject matter he definitely knows a thing or two about in his line of work. Dread asked Larson to discuss his thoughts on exorcism films and if there's any truth to what audiences see on the big screen.

Larson said, "It's always been very interesting to me to see Hollywood's take on exorcisms or possession because movies rarely get it right. In fact, The Devil Inside is the closest I've seen a movie get to what really happens during an exorcism or just when dealing with someone who is suspected of being possessed. There's a lot of realism in their story and the approach of the two young priests in the movie, and it's about so much more than just the possession itself. Their approach involves biologically investigating this woman to see if she really is possessed or if she's just crazy."

"The Exorcist is a great movie, but it's not even close to what happens during real-life exorcisms. I've done over 15,000 documented exorcisms, and I've never seen anyone's head spin 360 degrees or some of the more extreme things that happen throughout that movie. In my experiences I've seen levitations and I've felt chilled when coming into a room but nothing extreme like what was presented in The Exorcist. That's pure fiction," added Larson.

Reverend Larson went on to talk about the reality of performing an exorcism and what the differences are in what he experiences in his everyday life. "A lot of movies tap into that fear factor and usually portray exorcisms as very violent and scary experiences, and I don't find exorcisms to be like that at all. In fact, based on my vast experience, they're usually very quiet proceedings and rarely involve violent acts. When you see movies that show extreme exorcisms, that's usually Hollywood amping something up just so it's scarier for audiences, and while that's fun to see in a movie, it's just not the reality of exorcisms as a whole."

"What sets The Devil Inside apart from a lot of the other exorcism-related movies out there is that what you see these priests doing in the movie is usually how I approach my cases in real-life," Larson added. "The very first thing you always check in cases of possession are the eyes - that's usually the very first tell of a demonic presence. It's not always like you see in movies where eyes are glowing or all-white, stuff like that. It's more about the dilation of the pupils, how they react to certain tests, and that's usually the first tell between someone who's possessed and someone who might just have some mental health issues."

We asked Reverend Larson if he has a message for the skeptics out there who may think that real-life possession and exorcisms aren't authentic.

"For anyone who doesn't believe in demons or in demonic possession, I'd tell them to either visit my Bob Larson Exorcism YouTube page or come to one of my live events and see it for themselves," said Larson. "It's much easier to judge something when looking from the outside in, and once you see an exorcism with your own two eyes, you'll know just how real possession is."

For more on Reverend Larson and his work, check out the official Bob Larson website.

Bonnie Morgan, Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Preston James Hillier, Evan Helmuth, Suzan Crowley, D.T. Carney, and Ionut Grama star in The Devil Inside. Look for the film in theatres on January 6th, 2012.

Director Mark Pavia Returning with New Stephen King Anthology FilmAround these parts a little indie flick ranks up there as being one of the single scariest and best Stephen King adaptations out there. We're talking of course about Mark Pavia's The Night Flier. Good news, kids, as it sounds as if Pavia is finally ready to get back to business with a new anthology film based upon several King tales!

Icons of Fright caught up with Pavia, who laid this tasty tidbit upon fans...

"Steve chose two of the stories, and I chose two — the selection a perfect mixture of classic and contemporary King, a little bit of something for his oldest and newest fans alike. It will be a true representation of his different personas, his varied styles and voices throughout the years. Everything from the horror showman at his pulpiest to his most introverted and introspective character pieces, which can also be his most frightening. Every single aspect of his personality will be represented, which as a filmmaker makes me extremely excited. Not only will the film showcase Stephen King’s many different sides, it will also showcase mine as well."

Stop us if you've heard this one ... several faux paranormal investigators end up encountering a very real, and very deadly, supernatural phenomenon which leads to them disappearing, leaving behind only their footage to tell their tale. Sound a bit familiar? Well, if you're willing to take the ride again, the new indie spooker Documenting the Grey Man has your hot ticket to Frightville.

    From the Press Release
The independent film “Documenting the Grey Man,” written and directed by Wayne Capps and produced by Matthew Slechter, has signed a distribution deal for North American DVD and digital distribution with Camp Motion Pictures/POP Cinema.

“Documenting the Grey Man,” a feature-length docudrama horror movie, was filmed in the low country and is now slated for DVD release in the spring of 2012.

The movie was filmed at Wedge Plantation in McClellanville, South Carolina, and other locations in Mt. Pleasant, SC, using mostly local cast and crew.

“Documenting the Grey Man” was shot in true docudrama fashion as footage recovered from a ghost-hunting expedition.

The movie follows a group of film enthusiasts who decide to fake a ghost-hunting documentary about the famous “Grey Man” ghost in Pawley’s Island, SC. The Grey Man is an historical spirit rumored to haunt the island and warn people of impending hurricanes.

“We are extremely happy to partner with Camp Motions Pictures/POP Cinema to bring this DVD to the public,” said Wayne Capps. “Films like this help highlight the talent that is available in the Charleston area.”

“Documenting the Grey Man” stars Patrick Hussion, Kelly Coulter, and Jillian Walzer and is the first feature film released by Reserve Productions.

    More Carrie on the Way

More Carrie on the WayGreat news coming in for those of you out there sitting around and saying to yourselves, "Man, you know what we need? Another remake of Stephen King's Carrie!" Another telling is on its way, and we've got the skinny on whether or not they're all gonna laugh at you right here.

According to Deadline, Kimberly Peirce (Stop-Loss) is in talks to direct Carrie, another remake of the Stephen King thriller about a telekinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students. Peirce is best known for helming another troubled female coming-of-age tragedy, the Hilary Swank-starrer Boys Don’t Cry.

Carrie was previously turned into the 1976 film that starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, and Amy Irving with Piper Laurie as the repressive mother. In addition, in 2002 David Carson directed Angela Bettis as Carrie and Patricia Clarkson as her mother in a TV movie version written by Bryan Fuller.

The script for this latest reboot has been written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, whose rewrite work helped save Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Broadway. Aguirre-Sacasa set out to write a version of Carrie that is more faithful to the King book and more grounded than the Brian De Palma-directed original film.

Roland Emmerich to Take Us Between Heaven and Hell for ABCWhile we're not exactly sure how Dread-worthy this one will turn out, some news has come our way involving bloated action movie director Roland Emmerich's new series for ABC that just may have a nice supernatural edge to it.

According to Variety, Emmerich has teamed with Mark Gordon Co. on the untitled project, which marks the first drama pilot pickup for ABC going into the 2012-13 season.

Taking place in New York City, the story is set against the backdrop of the Presidential race of 2012, when a young astrophysics student learns his destiny lies not in science but somewhere between heaven and hell.

The project comes under Gordon's first-look deal with ABC Studios, which was signed last April. Emmerich, who will direct the pilot, wrote the script with Harald Kloser. The two last collaborated on the theatrical film Singularity, which Sony halted production on late last year.

The CW Is Ready to Join the CultThe CW is quite the home for horror television these days, and it sounds as if with the addition of their next sliver of supernatural spookery entitled "Cult", things are about to get a whole lot scarier. Read on for the 411.

According to Variety, The CW has picked up the pilot "Cult" from writer Rockne O'Bannon. The show was originally developed at the WB for 2006-2007 and later again at The CW for the 2009-2010 season. From Warner Bros. Television and Fake Empire, The CW's "Cult" will be exec produced by O'Bannon ("Farscape", "V") Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Len Goldstein.

    Synopsis:
After a rash of disappearances and a likely murder, an inquisitive, young female production assistant on a wildly popular television show called "Cult" joins a journalist blogger in investigating the rabid fans of the series who might be re-creating crimes seen on the program in real life.

If the pilot is to be picked up to series, there is the possibility The CW would only order 13 episodes rather than the traditional 22.

    More soon.
