From the Press Release
MassConcerts and Rock and Shock are thrilled to welcome to our convention the premiere of the new horror/sci-fi film Infected. Be sure not to miss Saturday night, which will be the red carpet world premiere of Infected and also the first sneak peek of the upcoming film Self Storage. Tickets will be given away over the course of the weekend to this event and in contests as well. Members of both of the casts will be joining us to bring you non-stop scares and fun. Also this year we will be having a Woodhaven panel on Saturday, October 13th, with actors from all their films and will have a booth with celebrities from all of their movies making appearances all weekend.

Infected, a new horror/sci-fi action film that will be in theaters this Halloween, brings you the story of a father and son hunting trip and their fight for survival when a blood virus infects a small group of hunters. As they’ve been doing for years, the duo are first to arrive at the peaceful cottage that their hunting club rents each deer season, and as the other club members arrive, they begin the familiar, relaxing task of setting up the cabin. While deep in the woods, cut off from civilization, they spend a long weekend cleaning, rekindling old friendships, and hunting. Kelly, the cabin’s caretaker, arrives in a panic with news that her grandmother is ill. When the grandmother disappears in the woods, it is quickly apparent that she is not sick from just any ordinary virus. There are then reports of hysteria and brutality in rural wooded areas throughout New England. Where the violence is coming from is unknown and almost universally unprovoked. Normal men and women, young and old, have started to commit unimaginably horrific acts. As the infection begins to spread through the hunting club one by one, decisions have to be made, and old friends are left behind. You see that all creatures must either evolve to meet new threats and protect themselves from the predators at the door or face the possibility of extinction. Infected is produced by Chad A. Verdi, Noah Kraft, and Gino Pereira; written by Glenn Ciano and Rob Rotondo; and directed by Ciano. This is a world premiere you won’t want to miss!

Infected stars Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Donnie Brasco), William Forsythe (Inkubus, The Devil's Rejects), Christy Romano (Mirrors 2, Even Stevens) and Tom Denucci (Self Storage and Inkubus).

Our sneak peek movie, Self Storage, which will be released in early 2013, brings you the story of Jake, the night watchman working at a highly secured self-storage facility, whose friends are home from college and looking to party. When Jake invites his buddies to his work for a small fiesta filled with innocent mischief, the evening slowly turns a naughty night of sex, drugs and rock and roll and then into pure terror. Barbed wire fences are meant to keep people out, but these fences keep people in! Produced by Chad A. Verdi and Gino Pereira, Self Storage was written and directed by Tom DeNucci. This is a sneak peek that will definitely leave you wanting more!

Self Storage stars Eric Roberts (The Dark Night, The Expendables, Best of the Best), Jonathan Silverman (Weekend at Bernie's, Inkubus), Michael Berryman (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Hills Have Eyes) and Nick Principe (Laid to Rest, Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2).

Zoe Bell. Mention her name, and you immediately have our attention. Rarely has a more badass person walked the earth. The fact that she's pretty damned hot doesn't hurt too much either. Read on for the latest project featuring Bell.

    From the Press Release
Hot on the bloody heels of recently wrapped horror battle film Raze, Cinipix and Slater Brothers Entertainment are set to produce another gritty action/drama feature, The Devil’s Ink.

Raze producer Kenny Gage and Devon Downs have written and are set to direct the film, which will go into production in October. Todd Slater and Andy Pagana, also of Raze, are slated to produce.

The Devil's Ink cast includes Raze's Zoe Bell (Oblivion, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained), RJ Mitte ("Breaking Bad"), Robert LaSardo (Death Race, Marble City, "Nip/Tuck"), Richard Cabral (End of Watch, "Southland"), Sandra Vergara (Fright Night, God Bless America), Shayla Beesley (Perkins’ 14, Sex and the USA) and Louis Iacoviello (The Legacy, "Heroes").

    Synopsis
When sexy ex-con Samantha Black (Bell) finds her Venice Beach tattoo parlor at the center of a scandal involving two dirty cops and the sex trafficking of under-aged girls, her retribution is swift, bloody — think the Coen Brothers on 'roids and Red Bull — and hardcore to the bone. Following a cast of bikers, gangsters and felons from the ink shop for which the film is named into the filthiest corners of corruption and depravity, the fast-moving, fight-for your life story provides an unflinching look at the dark side of street life and a nuanced vision of who exactly modern society's true villains really are.

Colder, from the creative team of writer Paul Tobin and artist Juan Ferreyra, is being released by Dark Horse Comics on November 7th, and Ferreyra put together this guest blog for us describing his process of designing the cover.

To begin, Ferreyra explains: "This is the first cover I did for Issue #1, but we thought it wasn't striking enough so I did a sketch where I tried to represent the idea of Colder trying to access his own mind by touching his brain in order to see if he could cure himself (the character can cure other people's madness)."

Ferreyra then tried a few alternatives: "I also tried different approaches to the same idea, one where Colder's nemesis, Nimble Jack, would be performing the same task and another where Nimble would be doing it to himself."

In the end, though, he concludes: "We decided to stick with just Colder picking his own brain so I started to do a big version of him so then I could crop and twist the image however I wanted.
I did a loose pencil version, then a more detailed and tight pencil version, and finally I scanned the image and gave it some colors with Photoshop. I also twisted the image a bit to make it more dynamic."

    Synopsis:
Declan Thomas’s body temperature is dropping. He checks it every day, and it’s dropped from 98.6 to a current average in the high fifties. He never gets sick, never feels pain. He’s just an ex-inmate of an insane asylum that began operation in the 1890s, specializing in those poor souls deemed too dangerous for society. As to when Declan himself was admitted, the records were destroyed in a fire. His nurse has found references to him that go as far back as the 1940s... which is odd since he doesn’t look a day over thirty.

A new one-sheet for V/H/S (review) (available now on VOD) is here. It was inspired by one of the flick's segments, and we have it say it's pretty friggin' wicked. Check it out!

Look for a limited theatrical run beginning October 5th. For more info keep your eyes on the V/H/S Facebook page.

Segment directors include Adam Wingard (You're Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Pop Skull), Simon Barrett (You're Next, Dead Birds, Read Sands), Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost, The Innkeepers), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), along with Radio Silence, two of whom were part of the YouTube sensations known as Chad, Matt and Rob (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Chad Villella).

    Synopsis:
When a group of petty criminals are hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

Bringing together some of the top filmmakers in the game today, this wickedly conceived horror anthology sends the viewer through a gauntlet of suspense, terror, shock, and downright brutality—instantly distinguishing itself from a sea of lackluster found-footage horror flicks. The diverse and deviously creative minds behind V/H/S shatter any preconceived notions about the genre, making it feel inventive and captivating once again.

The Facebook page for Kimberly Peirce's Carrie has been buzzing lately. Not only was it the director's birthday yesterday, but today marks the final day of filming. In addition, it looks like the film might have a release date!

Trevor Duke-Moretz, actor/acting coach/producer/brother of Chloe Grace Moretz, tweeted the following this morning, which was retweeted by Chloe and posted on the official Carrie Facebook page: last day on #CARRIE inspiring growth by @ChloeGMoretz as an actress, well done all get ready for March 15, 2013 #whathappenedtocarrie

Sounds like a viable release date to us, but we'll keep our ears open and let you know as soon as we get something more official.

    Synopsis:
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

MGM and Screen Gems’ CARRIE is directed by Kim Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies). J. Miles Dale (The Vow) serves as executive producer, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) wrote the script from King’s original story. CARRIE’s creative team includes Director of Photography Steve Yedlin (Looper), Production Designer Carol Spier (Eastern Promises), Costume Designer Luis Sequeira (The Thing), and Editor Lee Percy (Boys Don’t Cry).

New Paranormal Activity 4 Still Brings the Spooky!

    From the Press Release
Fans of "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY" are being empowered to bring the movie to their city first. Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., will debut the fourth installment in the popular horror franchise exclusively in 25 cities around the world by encouraging fans to vote to see it first with a new “Want It” application on Facebook.

Facebook’s 955 million global fans can vote for an advance screening in their city by clicking on the “Want It” button on the film’s fan page.

“Want It” is a dynamic application utilizing Facebook’s open graph technology that gives fans the opportunity to vote to bring the franchise to their city and leverage their social networks to ensure they are one of the top 25 winning locations. The application recognizes a fan’s geo-location according to their Facebook profile and automatically registers a vote to bring the film to their city first. Votes will be shared on a fan’s page and automatically posted to the Facebook newsfeed to rally their peers to bring the film to their city first, too.

The application feeds individual votes into a dynamic leader board that shows the ranking of every city in real time. Audiences can track the top cities as well as the ranking of their own city and push out reminders encouraging friends to vote. “Want It” brings an unprecedented level of interactivity for fans in determining screenings of the movie.

“There’s a very special connection between ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’ and Facebook,” said Matt Jacobson, head of market development at Facebook. “Four years after the initial success of the franchise and the establishment of a passionate fan community, we’re excited to see continued iteration on a franchise that was born on Facebook. Paramount is using both the Facebook platform and media to drive awareness of the film, three months out, and we will continue to drive awareness and intent at scale as we approach opening weekend in October.”

“The success of ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’ began with the fans who have championed the movie franchise from the very beginning through social media,” said Amy Powell, Executive Vice President of Interactive Marketing. “Now we're creating an even more dynamic experience among the film’s community of fans, and for the first time we're giving them an opportunity to go head-to-head on Facebook with fans around the world to determine the 25 cities who get to see ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4’ before it opens.”

Fans can also vote at the film’s website, ParanormalMovie.com.

Paranormal Activity 4 will open nationwide on October 19th, and per usual, most details for the film are being kept under wraps. Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have returned to helm for Paramount Pictures based on a script by Zack Estrin (a writer/executive producer on ABC's "The River").

Jeffrey Wright Joins The Hunger Games: Catching FireAnother tribute has been found for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: Jeffrey Wright has been cast as Beetee, who joins Amanda Plummer's Wiress as District 3's representatives in The Quarter Quell. Beetee earns the nickname “Volts” because of his electronics expertise.

The critically acclaimed Wright has continually pushed at the boundaries of his craft with inspired performances over a celebrated career spanning the worlds of theatre, film, and television. Most recently Wright completed work on Jim Jarmusch’s independent film ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE. He garnered a Tony® Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning epic Angels in America and reprised his Angels role in HBO's 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe® and an Emmy® for his groundbreaking performance. His brilliant portrayal of the renowned and controversial graffiti artist Jean Michel Basquiat in the 1996 film BASQUIAT received widespread praise from critics and earned him an Independent Spirit Award® nomination. On the other end of the spectrum, Wright has taken on roles in 2011’s SOURCE CODE and the 2006 and 2008 James Bond films CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate will release The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on November 22, 2013.

Susan Misner - Casting News for Fox TV's Serial Killer Thriller The FollowingA potential new recurring character is being added to Kevin Williamson's midseason thriller for Fox, "The Following." Susan Misner ("Person of Interest," "In Treatment") has signed on to play Jenny, a survivor type with a link to Kevin Bacon's character's past.

    Synopsis:
THE FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following? Welcome to THE FOLLOWING, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and director Marcos Siega (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dexter”).

Related Story: Highlights from The Following's San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Roundtable Interviews

When notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, X-Men: First Class) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature. Hardy is a walking textbook of all-things Carroll. He knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll’s only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn’t the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, it’s been a long time since Hardy has been in the field. This investigation is his redemption, his call to action. In contrast to nine years ago, Hardy isn’t calling the shots on this case. He works closely with an FBI team, which includes all-business and tough-as-nails JENNIFER MASON (Jeananne Goossen, The Vow, "Alcatraz") and young, razor-sharp MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore, X-Men).

The team considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset. But Hardy proves his worth when he uncovers that Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of killers in the outside world. It quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just a prison escape, and there’s no telling how many additional killers are out there. The FBI’s investigation leads Hardy to CLAIRE MATTHEWS (Natalie Zea, “Justified”), Carroll’s ex-wife and mother of the criminal’s 10-year-old son, JOEY (newcomer Kyle Catlett). Close during Hardy’s initial investigation, Hardy turns to Claire for insight into Carroll’s next move. The tension rises when Carroll’s accomplices kidnap his intended last victim from nine years ago. Hardy becomes ever more determined to end Carroll’s game when he realizes that this psychopath intends to finish what he started. The thriller will follow Hardy and the FBI as they are challenged with the ever-growing web of murder around them, masterminded by the devious Carroll, who dreams of writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist. The reinvigorated Hardy will get a second chance to capture Carroll, as he’s faced with not one but a cult of serial killers.

Julian Richards' Debut Feature Darklands Getting a North American Release

Thought to be lost, or at least tied up in legal limbo, Darklands, the debut feature of director Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie), will finally be released in the US and Canada by MVD Distribution with a street date set for November 20th, 2012.

    From the Press Release:
DARKLANDS, which has been cited by UK critics as laying the foundation of the British horror revival, follows a newspaper reporter investigating the death of a steelworker killed in an industrial accident who uncovers a conspiracy involving paganism, witchcraft and human sacrifice. Starring Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger), Jon Finch (Frenzy) and Rowena King (Wild Saragossa Sea), DARKLANDS is frequently compared to Robin Hardy’s 1970’s cult classic THE WICKER MAN, but the writer/director also acknowledges a debt to Roman Polanski’s ROSEMARY’S BABY.

DARKLANDS, which won the Melies d’Argent for Best European Fantasy Film in 1997, launched the directing career of Julian Richards, who went on to helm SILENT CRY, THE LAST HORROR MOVIE, SUMMER SCARS and SHIVER, whilst its producer Paul Brooks produced SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, WHITE NOISE and HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT.

“DARKLANDS was never released in the US because the sales agent representing the film went bust and the production company changed ownership, so nobody knew who controlled the rights” said sales agent, Rosana Coutinho of Jinga Films. “It took a decade to sort out chain of title, but finally after fifteen years, this cult British film can be appreciated by a North America audience.”

“I remember being approached by Roger Corman at Pifan Film Festival in Korea wanting to acquire the film for the US,” said Richards. “It was an incredible honor but also very frustrating because we could not clear the rights.”

"Darklands was the first British film to combine horror with social realism, a genre watershed which paved the way for the revival of UK horror in the 21st century” said MJ Simpson, author of Urban Gothic: The Modern British Horror Film. “Dark, gritty, contemporary and urban, Julian Richards' debut reinvented British horror movies. Without this film, there would be no 28 Days Later, no Shaun of the Dead, no Dog Soldiers."

MundoFox, the new Spanish-language broadcast network from Fox International Channels and RCN Television Group of Colombia, is the newest player in the underserved Hispanic media marketplace, and it's just launched a horror-themed series entitled "Kdabra."

There's also "Tiempo Final," which may not be strictly a genre show, but it sure sounds interesting!

    From the Press Release:
MundoFox is proud to have a diverse roster of quality programming that echoes the interests of the 'New Latino' viewer. The MundoFox lineup includes:

  • Kdabra - mystery, magic, and intrigue that gathers elements from the real and the supernatural worlds; where the enthralling mystery surrounding its main character, a 17-year-old teenager who has escaped from a dark community, triggers a series of unexpected events. The series stars Christopher Von Uckermann.
  • Tiempo Final - each week the characters face a dead end or an inevitable fate that will change their lives forever -- from lovers who are exhausted by their anonymity and decide to disclose their relationship to a serial murderer who is hiding under the harmless image of a plumber or a bachelor party that quickly becomes one that will not be forgotten.

There are lots of other shows to check out as well as Peabody Award-winning journalist Rolando Nichols anchoring "Noticias MundoFox" every weeknight at 6 p.m., the only newscast in Spanish to be produced live for both the East and the West Coast. MundoFox has already built a base of 50 affiliate stations in markets representing 80% of U.S. Hispanic households, and the network is confident its groundbreaking and innovative program mix will appeal to a significant portion of the 52 million (and growing) Latinos who live in the U.S.

MundoFox will be available on broadcast over-the-air television as well as through cable, satellite and telco providers (for local channel number information, visit or call your cable, satellite or telco provider).

  • B-Sides: I'm Dreaming of a Quickening

Was it all just a bad dream? Nope. I’m afraid Highlander 2: The Quickening actually happened. You know a movie exists in a special stratosphere of bad when the filmmakers spend years releasing alternate versions designed to convince us its immortal badness wasn’t their fault.

I’ll never forget sitting in a theater on opening weekend and staring at the screen in disbelief at what I was seeing. I’ll never forget hearing the disgust in the voice of the man sitting behind me, unable to contain his one disdain the moments the words “Planet Zeist” appeared on the screen.

Cackling alien hitmen with porcupine hairdos, winged backpacks, and hover skates flying (on very visible wires) after Christopher Lambert.

An energy shield surrounding the Earth that cannot be shut off because somehow there isn’t enough energy on the planet to use the off switch – the hell?

Michael Ironside apparently spent hundreds of years sitting around worried that two exiled rebels with no way of coming back to dethrone him might somehow come back so he zaps himself to where they are to pick a fight they had no interest in.

Michael Ironside and Sean Connery both playing characters brand new to this 21st century world yet still using very modern pop culture phrases and references they should have no knowledge of.

One could just go on and on and on about what a monumentally stupid movie Highlander 2: The Quickening was and continues to be, despite the best efforts of the filmmakers to try and polish a turn with various director’s cuts and “renegade editions”.

But, hey, at least the music was fairly decent.

Former Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm provided the title track to the Highlander II soundtrack. The song is titled “One Dream,” and it’s actually pretty good for a late Eighties/early Nineties power ballad. “One Dream” is this weekend’s B-Sides. Highlander II: The Quickening remains an enduring nightmare.

Saturday Nightmares: Why Shredder Represents the Nadir of Slasher Flicks

    $
    0
    0

Saturday Nightmares: ShredderIt's true there are slasher movies out there worse than Shredder. No budget nonsense that challenges the least discerning viewer to finish watching it.

You know exactly what I'm talking about. The kind of movie where kills happen off screen, people wander around aimlessly and the only scare comes from knowing you pissed away free time on something so banal. They've been around since the very birth of the slasher (see 1978's Savage Water, for the earliest example I'm aware of) and are made with alarming cluelessness today (The Graveyard). We'll always have terrible slasher films, as seemingly anyone can make them AND get them distributed.

But Shredder's sins are perhaps the most egregious. Outfitted with a budget and a cast of working actors, equipped with technical prowess and filmmaking know how, this is still the best that co-writer/director Greg Huson could do. A mixture of horror and comedy that is light on one and completely devoid of the other. Shredder is so bad that I hesitated reviewing it for Dread Central because the idea of reminding readers of its existence depressed me. But you need to be told so that if you ever find yourself faced with the option of watching it, you never make the mistake of throwing away 86 minutes of your life on this utter filth.

Shredder is set at an abandoned ski lodge with a troubled past. Years ago, it was the site of a tragic death and, as a result, has been left to rot away. But when a group of teenagers arrive for a weekend of partying and snowboarding, they're stalked by a devious skier who objects to their presence and begins killing them at every turn.

Sounds like every slasher film ever, right? Wrong. This is one of those that incorrectly assumes that audiences want to see the characters killed. And we do. But only because they're among the most intolerable lot of assholes I’ve encountered in this subgenre. And while the cast has largely found solid careers since appearing in this, their abilities must've been honed later because the performances here are uniformly terrible. Writers Craig Donald Carlson and Greg Huson have to shoulder most of this blame, though, for saddling these people with terrible dialogue and reprehensible characteristics. Scenes where these dolts are just hanging out, partying or snowboarding are simply intolerable. When they’re killed it feels like they still got off easy.

    Saturday Nightmares: Shredder

As a horror movie, Shredder couldn’t fail any worse. It’s not scary; the murderer is ridiculous (particularly when he’s skiing down the slopes in pursuit of victims) and the deaths, while mildly gory, fail to deliver any payoff whatsoever. Director Huson never manages to generate suspense or scares - the sole necessity when making a film of this ilk. Instead he infuses the proceeding with endless snowboarding footage, making the temptation to fast-forward even greater.

Maybe Shredder's a comedy. Fine, but it’s not funny. It's nowhere near say, Club Dread, which was very funny comedy that also took its resident slasher very seriously. Shredder can't even be bothered to do that. This is the kind of movie where someone is stabbed in the chest only to mumble, “oh, bad karma dude…”. Ha ha ha.

Its attempts at satire are even worse. When approached by the killer, one of the teenagers says with the utmost confidence, “you can’t kill me ‘cause I’m still a virgin.” only to be stabbed through the eye. This stuff doesn't exactly turn the subgenre on its ear.

And therein lies the biggest problem with Shredder. It's made by people who have no understanding of what makes these movies work. And so nothing here does. This is so far beyond the realm of being “bad in a good way”, so please don’t take this review as any kind of endorsement to watch it. It might have a higher production value than most rank offenders, but Shredder is still an exercise in bottom of the barrel genre filmmaking. Move on to bloodier pastures. Don’t even be curious.
