A Haunted House Image Gallery Take 2

0
0

A few weeks ago we were asked to remove our image gallery for A Haunted House because of "unapproved images," but now it's back and sillier than ever. Check out all the eye candy right here.

In the Wayans family tradition of successful movies like Scary Movie 1 & 2, Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and, most recently, Dance Flick, Marlon Wayans co-wrote the script for A Haunted House along with Rick Alvarez, who has produced several Wayans family movies.

Open Road Films will release A Haunted House – which stars Marlon Wayans, Cedric the Entertainer, David Koechner, Nick Swardson, and Essence Atkins – nationwide on January 11, 2013, pitting it directly against Dimension Films’ Scary Movie 5 release, which opens the same day.

Synopsis
In an outrageous send-up of the Paranormal Activity movies, The Devil Inside and other "found footage" movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins), who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted; it’s Malcolm’s girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghostbusters to rid her of this unwelcome intruder, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his relationship… or, more importantly, his sex life.

Film Society at Lincoln Center Scary Movie Series Presents Elijah Wood in Maniac Remake

0

There's been plenty of buzz around Franck Khafoun's remake of William Lustig's 1980 horror masterpiece Maniac. Now those of you in the New York area can get your first look at this nightmarish new film. We've got the details on the NY premiere. Read on!

The Film Society at Lincoln Center's Scary Movie Series will present Maniac (review) on October 27 at 8 p.m. with director Franck Khafoun in attendance. This remake of Maniac was produced by Alexandre Aja who also penned the new screenplay with frequent collaborator Grégory Levasseur and C.A. Rosenberg. Elijah Wood stars as the brutal Frank Zito. Also in the cast are Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, America Olivio and Jan Broberg.

Check out the official website for the Film Society at Lincoln Center Scary Movie Series. If you haven't checked out the trailer for Maniac yet, do yourself a favor and scroll down. It's wicked!

From the Press Release
This brilliant remake of William Lustig's beautifully repulsive 1980 masterpiece was taken on by the Gallic duo of Alejandra Aja and Grégory Lavasseur (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha). No stranger to filmic exercises (like their long-take-heavy debut Haute Tension, Aja and Lavsseur team with director Franck Khalfoun to create the rare occurrence of a full-length “POV” film (ala Enter The Void)), shooting all the action from the killer’s sick perspective. Elijah Wood brings this perspective to terrifying life as the film's villain/protagonist- showing how his famous gaze can go from mesmerizing to unnerving with just a shift of the light, and a little change of context.

Screening time: Saturday, October 27th, at 8PM with director Franck Khafoun in person.

Maniac will be released by IFC Midnight in spring/summer 2013.

Bill Oberst Jr. Gets Creepy Again in Trailer for Upcoming Film Coyote

0
0

There have always been two things we can count on…death and taxes. We'd like to petition adding "Bill Oberst, Jr., will be creepy in his next film" to that list. Oberst delivers big time every time out, and his new film, Coyote, is no different.

Dig the trailer, stills and one sheet below!

Directed by Trevor Juenger and starring Oberst, Jr., along with Bill Finkbiner, Victoria Mullen and Tasha Zebrowski, Coyote is an art-house horror film that looks very intriguing. For some insight into the film, check out the Coyote Production Blog website.

From the Press Release
The first trailer for Coyote from director Trevor Juenger has been released. In the film Bill Oberst, Jr., plays an insomniac writer whose sleep-deprived hallucinations distort reality until his paranoia leads him to extreme violence.

St. Louis-based director Trevor Juenger wrote the script for the micro-budget feature with Oberst in mind and flew the actor to the Midwest for a month of filming during the worst heat wave in decades. Oberst says "That script was brutal, raw, explicit and offensive. The shoot was even more so. This film won't be for everyone. But Juenger reminds me so much of a young Lynch with a dash of Cronenberg that I had to work him. I couldn't resist. We did this with no money, only passion for the experiment."

Of his lead actor Juenger says, "I was listening to an interview with Bill Oberst, Jr., today where he said his best asset is keeping quiet. Well, I have to disagree. I like a belligerent, aggressive, maniacal Bill Oberst, Jr., screaming and threatening people. That's the strength. I don't think real mental illness is a quiet one. Bill embodies the abusive dad, boyfriend, or whatever misogynistic ugliness you experienced growing up. You can't stand up to him when he's on the screen. Instead, he leaves you like a battered housewife, exhausted and helpless, yet attracted to the abuse."

Coyote is an attempt to blend the art-house genre, in which Juenger has primarily worked, with horror. The director admits it is a risky experiment: "If this is a horror movie (everyone assures me it is), it's unlike any horror film I've seen. I think we used the horror fundamentals that fit, and then threw away the book. Good, bad, revolting, or brilliant, I can't quite say. I can say it's something fresh though. Someone called it David Lynch directs Falling Down. As much as I hate the Lynch comparisons, I thought that was fitting. It's what I wanted to see. I hope you feel the same."

Official Lineup Announced for Hudson Horror Show 666

0
0

It's long been one of Doctor Gash's favorite film festivals, and it's rearing its ugly head again. The Hudson Horror Show has just announced the official lineup for the next event, Hudson Horror Show 666, on December 1st in Poughkeepsie, NY. Fans of classic films are going to love this!

With a great lineup of films, vendors, special guests, giveaways and surprises, Hudson Horror Show 666 promises to be killer. For more visit the official Hudson Horror Show website, "like" Hudson Horror Show on Facebook and follow Hudson Horror Show on Twitter (@HudsonHorror).

From the Press Release
On Saturday, December 1st, 2012, Hudson Horror Show 666 will present a whopping six movies (for the price of five) along with shorts and vintage trailers, all off rare 35mm films. It’s a massive, sweaty 12-hour explosion of horror and exploitation!

This is by the far the biggest and most diverse lineup of movies we have ever presented. The show starts and heaven will be torn asunder as you run from The Devil's Rain! Starring Ernest Borgnine, William Shatner, Tom Skerritt, and an appearance by John Travolta, this is the coolest of the "Satan Chic" classics from the 70’s.

One of the greatest exploitation movies of all time, Switchblade Sisters, tells the story of the Dagger Debs, the tough as nails girl gang whose members were hot as hell. Quentin Tarantino loves this movie but hasn’t quite stolen from it yet!

Not many sequels can equal their predecessors, but Phantasm II is one of the few. With more action, more midgets, and, well, more balls, Phantasm II shatters the myth that all sequels suck.

There are no midgets in Re-Animator, but director Stuart Gordon’s unrated bloodbath has just about everything else. With mad scientists, zombies, talking heads, and the most insane oral sex scene ever committed to celluloid, this film is cinematic proof that Jeffrey Combs got robbed of a Best Actor Oscar in 1985.

Sound the trumpets of Crom! After 30 years the original Conan the Barbarian makes its triumphant return to the big screen! Forget the boring, anemic remake; Arnold Schwarzenegger’s breakout film delivers more blood, blades, and boobs than most vintage slasher films.

Speaking of slasher films, what’s a Hudson Horror Show without one? Have no fear as our mystery movie is now revealed to be the original Black Christmas. Again, screw the remake; this is the original yuletide horror classic from 1974, which many claim to be the very first true slasher film. And any movie starring John Saxon just kicks major ass!

Be sure to bring extra cash as we will have vendors selling more wares than ever before. Comic books, movie posters, super cool magnets, rare DVD’s, t-shirts, artwork and more will up for grabs at HH666. Horror author Jason Gehlert will even be in attendance signing copies of his brand spanking new book, Jeremiah Black. This book sounds even sicker and more twisted than Jason’s other works; for all of his info visit Jason Gehlert on Facebook.

Advance tickets are $26.00 at our website; if any day tickets remain, they will be $30.00 at the door day of show, cash only. Doors open at noon; the show starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 12 a.m. One ticket gets you entry in and out all day long. Advance tickets are going quick and are only on sale until Monday, November 26th, at 11:59 p.m. ET. For vendor information visit the Hudson Horror Show website.

Hell's Belles Slashing its Way Through the Festival Circuit

0
0

We’ve been following this one from the beginning and thought we’d give you an update on Christian Ackerman’s short horror/comedy Hell’s Belles, which is currently making the festival rounds, as well as a look at some new exclusive art.

Written and directed by Ackerman, Hell’s Belles was filmed last year just outside Los Angeles (see our set visit here) and had a splashy premiere earlier this year in Hollywood, CA (we were there to cover that as well). The film stars Ariel Teal Toombs (daughter of pro wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper) and Mayra Rodriguez as inexperienced occult specialists called by the local sheriff to help rescue a young girl from a sadistic demon from Hell. The film also stars Bonjah (yes, like ‘Madonna’), Trista Robinson, James Cavlo, Paul Gebeau, and Buffy Dakan.

Chatting with Ackerman, who recently completed the feature script version of Hell’s Belles (he’ll soon be shopping it around; production houses, take note!), the filmmaker stated of the short’s festival performance, “It’s been great so far! It played at Sacramento Horror Film Festival, where it won ‘Best Horror Comedy.’ The screening was euphoric, to watch it with such a receptive crowd. Mayra also won ‘Best Actress in a Short Film’ at the Buffalo Screams Film Festival. We’ve also been nominated for ten awards at the Killer Film Fest in Somerville, Massachusetts. It’s screening there on November 3rd, which is cool because Drina (Durazo), who produced with me, and I are spending Halloween in Salem and then hitting the fest. After that it’s off to San Diego for the Horrible Imaginings Fest on November 10th.”

Ackeman is contemplating the online debut of Hell’s Belles sometime in early 2013. In the interim he’s currently in pre-production on his next horror short titled Son of a Bitch!

For more you can follow the flick on Twitter and on its Facebook page.

An Exclusive Clip from ThanksKilling 3 Gets Wise

Yes, the original ThanksKilling was far from something to write home about, but we cannot help but applaud the audacity it takes to make a second sequel that goes in search of the first sequel. Sound wacky? Wait until you've seen this clip!

    From the Press Release
In ThanksKilling 3 the fowl-mouthed villain Turkie is back and hacking his way to find the last copy of ThanksKilling 2. which has landed in the hands of a group of disturbingly crude puppets.

The death toll rises as Turkie carves through the likes of Flowis the rapping grandma, Rhonda the bisexual space worm, Yomi the puppet in search of her mind, and their equally ridiculous friends who all travel through fantastical settings such as the FeatherWorld and Turkey Hell. With the guidance of Uncle Donny (Dan Usaj), the wig-wearing inventor of the PluckMaster 3000, Jefferson (Joe Hartzler), Head of Security at ThanksgivingLand, and a WiseTurkey, the gatekeeper to the FeatherWorld, our collection of raunchy characters hope to fend off the murderous rampage of Turkie, all while trying to help Yomi find her mind.

Directed by Jordan Downey, produced by Ricky Fosheim, and written by Kevin Stewart, Jordan Downey and Mike Will Downey, this hilariously gory sequel to cult hit ThanksKilling is the first movie to skip its own sequel. Gobble, Gobble, Motherf***er!

Look for the flick on November 13, 2012.

  • Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Celebrates Film's Most Frightening Rabbits

    0
    0

We've got a shitload of lists on this website. Top 10 most brutal women in horror, top buggy movies, top animal attacks; we even recently had top supermarket horror films. But we may have reached another level with this one… Film's Most Frightening Rabbits!

Bunnies are generally cute and cuddly so you'd think that "evil" ones would be a pretty rare find, right? Well, think again, my friend! Bunnies aren't always as cute as Anna Farris and Angela Bettis in May. Sometimes those flop-eared bastards are downright nasty. Sinister rabbits have made their presence known in all types of movies.

We celebrate this list in conjunction with the release of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, the long anticipated sequel to Silent Hill, which hits theaters on Friday, October 26.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Celebrates Film's Most Frightening Rabbits

There have been plenty of disturbing rabbits in film. One of the most disturbing that immediately comes to mind is Eminem's character, Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith in 8 Mile. Well, okay, maybe that one can't really make the list, but how about the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland? He obviously had something wrong with him... You're late. We get it. He totally could have used Ritalin or some kind of sedative. But he's not really scary. It does seem that addictive personalities are a bunny thing, as you can see from the Trix Rabbit and the Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs Bunny. It's just cereal guys, goddamn.

However, if you want scary, General Woundwort from Watership Down is about as off-putting as a cartoon bunny can get and certainly deserves an honorable mention. And perhaps the scariest bunny, although already dead, was boiling in a pot on the stove thanks to Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. How many men's zippers were stowed in the upright and locked position after seeing that little tantrum? Yikes!

    Now, on to the bunnies!

    Night of the Lepus (1972)

Based on a 1964 science-fiction novel entitled Night of the Angry Rabbits, Night of the Lepus was originally entitled Rabbits and tells the story of an Arizona town besieged by mutated, carnivorous rabbits. Now that's exactly what we're talking about. The film starred some heavyweight talent like Janet Leigh, Rory Calhoun and DeForest Kelly. The bunny effects were done by using domestic rabbits set against miniature backgrounds (how fun is that?!) as well as actors in bunny suits for some of the attack scenes. Beautiful. The film was released on October 4, 1972, and would go on to be crucified by critics. However, due to the sheer campiness of it, Night of the Lepus has gained cult status and remains alive in the hearts of horror fans today.

    MORE on the NEXT PAGE

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

The Cave of Caerbannog is the location of our next bad-ass bunny. Led there by Tim the Enchanter, King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table find themselves overjoyed with the prospect of facing just a little rabbit to gain entrance into the cave. But things aren't always as they seem. That little white bastard laid the lumber to the Knights of the Round Table in quick fashion, killing a number of them and causing Sir Robin to soil his armor... again. This ferociously beastly bunny was responsible for one of the most hilarious and memorable scenes from the Monty Python lexicon. It's a case of finding horror in humor, and if you want a bloodthirsty bunny, this one certainly fits the bill.

    Sexy Beast (2001)

Okay, this is a strange one. (It seems odd that after we write about a rabbit killing members of the Knights of the Round table, the next entry on the list would be "a strange one," but here it is). In Sexy Beast an evil mutant cowboy rabbit invades a character's dreams after she watches a member of her party utterly fail at killing a jackrabbit in the dessert. In the dream an anthropomorphic rabbit menaces the woman... oh yeah, and he's toting an Uzi. Family entertainment at its finest. However, in all seriousness, Ben Kingsley was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in this film. Maybe the humanoid rabbit's foot brought him luck.

    Donnie Darko (2001)

And, of course, when you think horrific rabbits, everyone's mind immediately goes to Frank, the inter-dimensional living/dead, hero/villain of Donnie Darko. Frank is an incredibly complex character, and the fact that he's dressed in that stupid bunny suit is a great juxtaposition to the depth of the role. Frank is so creepy that his face went on to be the calling card for Donnie Darko, the cult favorite that sucks you into an meandering maze of twists that culminates in the ultimate mind-screw. And Frank, well, he went on to be an iconic horror characters who asks Donnie, and by extension, all of us: ""Why do wear that stupid man suit?" He is the best of the bunnies.

NOW comes the newest addition to the fuzzy-headed creatures: everyone's favorite blood-soaked Robbie from Silent Hill: Revelation 3D! Will you be able to stand the nightmares?

Open Road has acquired U.S. rights to video game-based sequel Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and plans to release the psychological horror flick wide on October 26th. Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, and Radha Mitchell return from the original film.

    Synopsis
For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

First Clip Uncovered on Mockingbird Lane

    0
    0

The first clip from NBC's new version of the much beloved show "The Munsters" is here, and checking it out will definitely help you decide whether or not you're up for a trip down this particular variation of "Mockingbird Lane."

The "Mockingbird Lane" pilot was written by Bryan Fuller and directed by Bryan Singer. It is a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about "The Munsters," a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves, and Frankenstein — and their “plain” cousin that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy "Pushing Daisies."

Portia DeRossi and Jerry O’Connell star as Lily and Herman Munster, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Mason Cook as Eddie, and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn. Look for it this Friday, October 26th.

    Synopsis
Sweet little Eddie Munster (Mason Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he's about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places -- as in all over his body -- every time the moon is full! Eddie's got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (Portia de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (Jerry O'Connell), who brings new meaning to "Frankenstein"; and Grandpa (Eddie Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren't actually Dracula! Of course then there's creepy cousin Marilyn (Charity Wakefield), who's really the odd one because she's so completely normal.

Buying a house these days is a nightmare, so Herman and Lily are shocked that no one scooped up the rambling Victorian mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane that was the site of a series of grisly hobo murders. Settling into their new place, they're quickly on to the mission at hand: to gently ease Eddie into the reality of his werewolf adolescence. But it's not always so easy to accept that your child is a little "different" from the rest of the kids. Meanwhile, Herman, who works as a funeral director, is suffering from a heart condition. Since he's made up mostly of spare parts, he knew his makeshift heart would eventually give out. No worries, though, because Grandpa, who is pretty good at procuring body parts, is on the case. All Herman cares about is finding a new heart with the same capacity to love Lily as much as he has for so many decades.

A new clip has arrived from the upcoming October 26th Episode 2.09 of "Grimm," entitled "La Llorona," and we have it right here, complete with a translation of the Spanish part without subtitles!

TV Guide got the first look at the clip, in which Nick (David Giuntoli) needs a translator for a child-abduction case. Luis Alvarez (David Barrera) is distraught when his son, Rafael, is taken by a mysterious weeping woman in white. In order to speak with Luis, Nick calls in Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), who speaks Spanish after having grown up in Spain with her grandmother, and she encounters a mystical woman named Pilar (Bertila Damas). In the untranslated portion (subtitles will be added when the episode airs Friday), Pilar says that good children are always taken and she knows who the kidnapper is.

    Episode 2.09 - "La Llorona" (airing 10/26/12; 9:00-10:00 pm)
IT’S HALLOWEEN IN PORTLAND, AND A SERIES OF BIZARRE CHILD ABDUCTIONS LEAD NICK TO A GHOST STORY THAT MAY BE REALITY -- Despite the enthusiastic anticipation of the city’s residents for Halloween, a series of horrifying child abductions make their way to Portland, quickly spoiling the holiday spirit. Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) join forces with Valentina Espinosa (guest star Kate del Castillo, Telemundo’s "La Reina del Sur"), a mysterious detective from Albuquerque, to help find and capture the elusive suspect. Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) joins their investigation, acting as the precinct’s fill-in Spanish translator. The more Nick digs into the case, the more he realizes the pattern of the kidnapping matches those in the famed Hispanic horror story "La Llorona," a story with its roots intertwined with his own family’s history. Meanwhile Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) celebrates the holiday in fine style as he teaches the neighborhood bullies a lesson. Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee also star.

Altitude Films has announced three new film projects coming at us just in time for AFM 2012, and we have the skinny for you on each. Read on to find out what new terrors are lurking across the pond.

According to Variety the UK production, finance, and international sales company has set Rafe Spall for the lead in Britpop satire Kill Your Friends and added the sci-fi flick Outpost 37 to its growing slate.

Spall, seen this year in Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Ang Lee's Life of Pi, takes the lead in Owen Harris' film about an A&R man who, desperately searching for the next big hit, takes the concept of killer tunes to a murderous new level. Gregor Cameron produces the film with Altitude, which is based on a novel by John Niven. Harris most recently helmed TV dramedy "Holy Flying Circus" about the reaction to Monty Python's Life of Brian. The film is expected to shoot in early 2013.

Outpost 37 is the feature helming debut of L.A.-based VFX supervisor Jabbar Raisani. Raisani, whose VFX work includes several projects with Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios including Predators and Machete, co-wrote the sci-fi thriller with Blake Clifton.

A co-production between Bigscope, Underground Entertainment, and Altitude, the film follows a documentary crew accompanying an elite unit of Marines tasked with protecting mankind in the aftermath of an alien invasion. Bigscope's Jason Newmark and Laurie Cook and Underground's Trevor Engelson will produce. Altitude's Will Clarke, Andy Mayson, and Mike Runagall will exec produce.

Altitude will also handle international sales for Occupant Entertainment's The Good People, the feature debut of shorts and music video helmer Corin Hardy. The horror film, scripted by Hardy and Olga Barreneche, follows a molecular gene scientist who moves his family to the Irish countryside, where they are attacked by demonic creatures.

Look for more on all of these projects soon!

Never Mind Gangnam Style! In Little China They Get Down with Lo Pan!

    0

Honestly, we really don't understand the craze that is Gangnam Style here at Dread Central. Watching a semi-chubby Asian dude make believe he's riding a horse? Yeah, not getting the appeal. However... this? This we can totally get behind!

From YouTube user wekejay comes Lo Pan Style, which follows the musical exploits of everyone's favorite bad guy from John Carpenter's cult classic Big Trouble in Little China!

So PSY, when some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye and remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, PSY?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Just try getting this out of your head for the rest of the day!
