Second Clip From Mockingbird Lane Flies In

Hot on the heels of yesterday's clip comes another look at NBC's new version of the much beloved show "The Munsters." So the question beckons: Will you be taking this new trip down "Mockingbird Lane," or would you rather it remain a road less traveled. Let us know!

The "Mockingbird Lane" pilot was written by Bryan Fuller and directed by Bryan Singer. It is a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about "The Munsters," a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves, and Frankenstein — and their “plain” cousin that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy "Pushing Daisies."

Portia DeRossi and Jerry O’Connell star as Lily and Herman Munster, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Mason Cook as Eddie, and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn. Look for it this Friday, October 26th.

Synopsis
Sweet little Eddie Munster (Mason Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he's about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places -- as in all over his body -- every time the moon is full! Eddie's got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (Portia de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (Jerry O'Connell), who brings new meaning to "Frankenstein"; and Grandpa (Eddie Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren't actually Dracula! Of course then there's creepy cousin Marilyn (Charity Wakefield), who's really the odd one because she's so completely normal.

Buying a house these days is a nightmare, so Herman and Lily are shocked that no one scooped up the rambling Victorian mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane that was the site of a series of grisly hobo murders. Settling into their new place, they're quickly on to the mission at hand: to gently ease Eddie into the reality of his werewolf adolescence. But it's not always so easy to accept that your child is a little "different" from the rest of the kids. Meanwhile, Herman, who works as a funeral director, is suffering from a heart condition. Since he's made up mostly of spare parts, he knew his makeshift heart would eventually give out. No worries, though, because Grandpa, who is pretty good at procuring body parts, is on the case. All Herman cares about is finding a new heart with the same capacity to love Lily as much as he has for so many decades.

We've got some indie distribution information for you concerning the sci-fi thriller New Order. As horror fans know, every time an indie gets distro, it's like an angel getting its wings…or a demon sprouting horns. It's a beautiful thing.

New Order stars veteran actor Franco Nero, who will be appearing in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, and was written and directed by Marco Rosson. Check out some official stills from the film below. Release dates are still being worked out, but rest assured you'll get your chance to see New Order in the not too distant future.

From the Press Release
Acort International, one of the top distributors of independent films in the global marketplace, has recently the acquired sci-fi/thriller New Order for distribution. Distribution plans are currently under consideration and will include a North American DVD release and cable/satellite/internet VOD run, limited theatrical screenings, as well as being showcased at this year’s 2012 AFM. All worldwide rights will be available.

About The Film
New Order takes place in 2033, three years after a viral outbreak that wiped out 90 percent of the population, and follows a small group of survivors who have banded together and find shelter in a country house inhabited by Dr. Cornelius, a professor working on a cure. But when these survivors soon turn into test subjects in order to find a vaccine, side effects become present, and some members of the group start to develop extraordinary neurological activity, giving them paranormal powers but with fatal consequences. The film is shot from two vantage points via the subjective and a video diary which documents the group’s progress.

New Order was filmed entirely in a studio outside Milan, Italy, during the summer of 2011. Up-and-coming writer/director Marco Rosson completed the screenplay and immediately reached out to legendary actor Franco Nero (Die Hard 2, Django Unchained, Cars 2), knowing that the role of Dr. Cornelius was scripted with him in mind. After some discussions Nero agreed to the project, and filming commenced. Shot in 25 days with post-production completed in January 2012, the film was given a world premiere in February at the Los Angeles Italian Film Festival, where it was met with critical acclaim.

Paranormal Activity 4 Goes Awry in England; Things Heat Up for the Degloshis

It's Friday, and we have a good mixture of funny and spooky Paranormal Activity 4 related hijinx to turn you cats on to! Get ready for tales of children's programming gone awry and more from Jacob Degloshi and his daughter, Sarah.

The first bit of news comes from Yahoo! UK, who report that due to a projector mix-up between Paranormal Activity 4 and Madagascar 3, "shocked families at Nottingham's Cineworld had to rush their children out of the auditorium as they realised that the wrong film was being projected. But not before a scene at the very start of the film - featuring a bloodied female corpse being thrown at the camera – upset children as young as five, among around 25 families watching."

"They started playing the movie, and I thought, 'This doesn't look right'," said a stunned parent. "And then I recognised the opening sequence as a flashback to the first movie, which I saw a couple of years ago. It opens on the most terrifying scene in the first film – where a body shoots full pelt towards the camera. It's enough to make grown men jump, so you can imagine the terror in these young faces. Everybody just scrambled for the exits; all you could hear were children crying and screaming. Everyone was very upset. It was only about two minutes worth of the film, but it was enough to scar them for life.

Ah, yes! That's the good stuff! Speaking of good... things have gotten delightfully bad for the Degloshis as Sarah was attacked, and it was captured on tape!

Paranormal Activity 4 Goes Awry in England; Things Heat Up for the Degloshis

"Sarah says her burn mark doesn't hurt. Doc thinks it's a rash. I think it looks like someone or something grabbed her. Sarah really doesn't want to leave but I'm looking into hotels. Coincidences don't happen this often."

From there Jacob shared some surveillance camera footage.

And the activity continued...

"My TV keeps randomly coming on. I have a ghost that likes to watch TV. GREAT. #cable #tv #ghosts"

But then things calmed down.

"All is quiet at the house tonight. Too much has happened today, I need sleep."

How much ya wanna bet things don't stay that way for long?

Director Michael J. Bassett Talks Silent Hill: Revelation; Read the Review!

$
0
0

It’s been many years since our last visit to Silent Hill on the big screen, but I find myself returning to the original film often in the comfort of my own home when I’m looking for a moody, atmospheric creepfest… and I know I’m not alone.

With legions of fans of the first film and millions more fans of the video games, there was more than enough reason to unleash Pyramid Head and those odd sexy, stabby nurses once more. Dread Central sat down with Michael J. Bassett, director of Silent Hill: Revelation (review), to find out what’s on tap... in 3D!!

In Silent Hill: Revelation, Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

So speaks the synopsis of doom, but knowing they had some sizable shoes to fill, Bassett sought to delve deeper into the mythology. As an avid gamer (and already a Silent Hill fan before the first film), it became obvious that the best way to continue little Sharon’s story was to jump to game 3.

“Silent Hill 3 is a great framework for that. You have vomiting gods, which is a tricky character to do in a movie, but the foundation of that, making it the story of a child looking for her parent, as opposed to a parent looking for a child, which is what the first movie was... my challenge as the writer and director was to say, 'Okay, I’ve got to make a sequel to the first movie that makes sense and... with a little bit of baggage to figure out... with them being trapped in that other world.' Chris/Harry Da Silva (Sean Bean) can’t see her... so how does she get back? I have to explain that. Then I have to take the story from game 3 and adapt that in a way that makes sense for the sequel to the movie AND I have to write a story that makes sense to people who have NEVER seen Silent Hill, never played the game and do not give a shot about the mythology of Silent Hill. They just want to pay their money and see an entertaining horror movie.

Knowing full well there will still be fans of the franchise that will immediately say, “You’ve fucked it up,” the crew pressed on and did their damndest to remain true to the source material. Bassett went on to say Silent Hill was one of the first games he really got into when he was younger, becoming emotionally invested in the story and characters. With that respect for what Konami created and a fond memory of the shit being scared out of him, Bassett hopes he has done the games justice.

Being that hardcore gamer, Bassett laughs, saying his gamer brethren will immediately take him to task for bringing Pyramid Head back into play, as the character did not appear in the third game. You can’t very well leave out such a striking character and, arguably, the most recognizable from the first film… so we’ll give that a pass. “We hope we’ve used Pyramid in a way that was appropriate to Heather’s psychological situation. In the game world Pyramid is a corruption of the executioner. In the new film that is used. He has a purpose. Heather is turning 18 in the movie, her father is still very important to her, so Pyramid represents masculinity and the power of masculinity and what it can do to protect and oppress at the same time. And I have another creature in this movie which is a very feminine monster who is a counterpoint to that masculinity.

When asked about familiar visuals a gamer may drink in while watching, Bassett says there are a handful of places where they strove to make your heart bubbles pop. A lakeside amusement park, the carousel with fire burning around it as they descend into hell, combat between Heather and Dark Alessa all mirror in-game beats. I wondered how a fan of the games charged with juggling all those elements to make an easy to follow, killer horror film for the average person would go about mining that rich mythology for the perfect creatures. Basset said a lot of it had to do with what they could actually deliver. At the end of the day, there really aren’t a lot of monsters from game 3 in the movie, though it wasn’t for lack of testing those waters. Scenes were shot and abandoned.

You try and select the monsters that are appropriate for the moment in the story. When Heather goes to the asylum to see Leonard, in the game you only see the monster. I really wanted to see the human personification so I called on Malcolm McDowell. He becomes the Leonard monster later on. In an asylum you are doing surgery on brains; it’s all about that kind of viscera so I thought let’s create what I call the Brain Monster, which is a guy who has had a lobotomy and his entire cranium has been opened up and you see all the skin resected, and that’s a PRACTICAL creature that Paul Jones and his team had created and it’s absolutely brilliant. This guy in this costume with his gangly limbs and all these pustules and open sores and his whole brain is exposed, no face, this sort of open broken mouth with all these teeth all over the place... That’s awesome!

I asked if he had input in fleshing out the original monsters for this film. Basset said he did whip up some sketches and have a degree of input, though Paul Jones and Patrick Tatopoulos did the heavy lifting on creation. Bassett would say, “I want a mannequin monster, a spider-like creature made of mannequins.” The creatives would then take that concept and through discussion over what happens in the story and some old fashion brainstorming, a new adorable, flesh-ripping beast is born. It is worth mentioning that the mannequin monster is the only totally CGI creature in the film.

I asked if Basset prefers practical over CGI and was told yes, but almost totally from a point of being able to keep control over everything. An actor in a monster suit can be directed. “When we go into the digital world, I have to turn to my actors and say, 'Okay, this is a tennis ball and this will be reeeeally scary eventually... please treat it accordingly. When you see Red Pyramid, he is 8'2" with a huge fucking sword in his hand, and if you do not get away from him, something bad is going to happen.' That’s much easier to do. The choice is driven by I want the best movie I can get. I’m an old school guy! I like men in suits! It’s about making the right choices. The Silent Hill movie has a very polished aesthetic. It’s got the real world, the fog world with all the ash coming down, the darkness, and the transformation from these three worlds... the darkness falling with the world peeling around them, and it’s great in the first movie... we use it in the second movie, and in 3D it’s rockin!”

Bassett was asked the inevitable question of further sequels and remarked that one would expect with all those games out there (2 especially), there is plenty to mine for film. That may well be the case, but Bassett would rather start telling his own stories in Silent Hill, just as the graphic novels have been doing. “Come play in Silent Hill! What would your take on it be?

Look for more throughout the weekend.

Open Road releases Silent Hill: Revelation 3D wide on October 26th. Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, and Radha Mitchell return from the original film.

In the sequel, directed by Michael J. Bassett, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run from mysterious and dangerous forces. She discovers she isn't who she thinks she is, leading her deeper into a demonic world.

We're really looking forward to tonight's episode of "Grimm," titled "La Llorona," as few legends are spookier than "The Weeping Woman." Here are two more clips from the ep along with a behind-the-scenes look at the makeup process.

TV Guide got the first look at the clip, in which Nick (David Giuntoli) needs a translator for a child-abduction case. Luis Alvarez (David Barrera) is distraught when his son, Rafael, is taken by a mysterious weeping woman in white. In order to speak with Luis, Nick calls in Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), who speaks Spanish after having grown up in Spain with her grandmother, and she encounters a mystical woman named Pilar (Bertila Damas). In the untranslated portion (subtitles will be added when the episode airs Friday), Pilar says that good children are always taken and she knows who the kidnapper is.

Sideshow Pictures Unleashing Short Film The House That Cried Blood on October 30; Dig the Stills

After the success of last year's horror-comedy short The Night of the Pumpkin, Sideshow Pictures decided to drop the comedy aspect and returns this year with a straight-up tale of horror with The House That Cried Blood.

The film will be released online on Blood Night, October 30.

The House That Cried Blood was written and directed by Frank Sabatella and stars Damian Maffei, Andrea Boelhke, Ashlee Mundy, Ray Zup, and Ann McGowan as Old Lady Death. Director of Photography is Stephen Franciosa, Jr., with special effects created by Emmy-nominee Jeremy Selenfriend ("Boardwalk Empire").

We'll bring you the film as soon as it goes public, but for now check out the stills below. Creepy!

From the Press Release
New York City-based genre production company Sideshow Pictures has announced its second annual Halloween short film, The House That Cried Blood. The film was written and directed by Frank Sabatella (Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet) and produced by Frank Mosca of Harrington Talents.

A classic haunted house tale with a mix of scares and blood, the short follows four young adults who venture into the supposedly cursed house of Old Lady Death in search of her rotting corpse. What seems like regular Halloween tomfoolery turns into a night of terror they may never survive, and what awaits them within the walls of this dilapidated home is an evil birthed from their worst nightmares.

A tonal shift from Sideshow’s knowingly campy 2011 Halloween short, Night of the Pumpkin, the production company’s sophomore outing is straightforward horror from writer/director Sabatella. "My goal with The House That Cried Blood was to create an eerie atmosphere through the use of location, old fashioned scare tactics, and frightening imagery."

He continues, "I wanted to step outside my own comfort zone as a writer/director and take the opposite approach I took with last year’s Night of the Pumpkin. I left behind the fun and splattery thrills of the 80’s styled VHS horrors and took more of a 70’s styled slow-build approach to a creepy, nightmarish finale. Though it is different than what myself and Sideshow are known for, it will still have the style and appeal Sideshow has come to be known for."

As one of the premier special effects artists of his or any generation, Stan Winston was the man behind many of modern cinema's greatest creatures, villains and superheroes, including one of the most iconic characters of the 1980's- The Terminator.

Winston's work with The Terminator franchise didn't end with the original film either; he went on to work on the subsequent sequels until his passing in June 2008 (he was actively involved with the effects work on Terminator: Salvation at the time), and his work on Cameron's blockbuster sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, garnered Winston two Oscars for his groundbreaking make-up and visual effects.

While he may have been responsible for countless unforgettable creations throughout his career, it was Winston's work on The Terminator that catapulted him into the forefront of the special effects industry and would also mark the beginning of a long-standing collaborative relationship between himself and Cameron that spanned over 25 years.

Aliens Invade and Jean-Claude Van Damme Has a Shotgun in the Trailer for UFO

What if Skyline was British, didn’t take place in a big city apartment complex, and at some point Jean-Claude Van Damme shows up with a shotgun? That’s kind of the impression I got from the trailer for UFO.

Synopsis:
It started with a blackout, all power and communications down. Hours later city sized UFOs invade the world's skies. Then the war began...

Five friends attempt to navigate their way to survival amidst deteriorating chaos as the world descends into terror and anarchy during an alien invasion and interstellar war.

That’s the plot to Airborne director Dominic Burns’ upcoming low budget British alien invasion flick UFO. The movie has garnered a bit more press than it probably would have thanks to the casting of Jean-Claude Van Damme, albeit in a small role. Getting him involved probably wasn’t too hard considering the film’s star is Van Damme’s adult daughter, Bianca Bree.

She’s not the only celebrity offspring in the cast: Sean Brosnan, son of ex-James Bond Pierce Brosnan, co-stars. Simon Phillips (Airborne), Julian Glover (most recently of “Game of Thrones”), and Sean Pertwee (The Seasoning House, Dog Soldiers) round out the cast.

According to Hey U Guys UK, UFO is due in British theaters on January 11th. I presume it will invade America sometime later next year.

Housemates of Horror Horrifically Funny

Housemates of Horror Horrifically FunnyWe've never fully understood shows like "The Real World." Yeah, so a giant network leases a swanky apartment and pays a bunch of young douches whom you end up wanting to kill to live in it. Yeah, that's "real" all right. Wanna see the real world? Follow the average person around for a day.

Still, what would make this premise undoubtedly more entertaining is if the housemates were comprised of horror stars instead of perfect looking young adults who think that there's nothing more to life than chewing gum, riding in nice cars, and dancing Gangnam Style like idiots. To make this happen, the good folks over at Fox Connect have created the following video that will surely bring a smile to your face this Halloween season.

Dig it!

Capcom has announced the are offering fans around the world a once in a lifetime opportunity. Players can create their own advertisements and send in their most cherished memories to appear in the upcoming title Remember Me. Read on to get started!

From the Press Release
Capcom is offering the chance for people across the globe to have their creations and personal images incorporated into the retail version of Remember Me, scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 and Windows PC next May, with the launch of two different initiatives. Set in Neo-Paris in 2084, Remember Me provides a vision of the world where personal memories have become a real world commodity that can be bought, traded and sold. Our heroine, Nilin, is an elite memory hunter who has had her memories wiped… and now she wants them back.

Already underway is the opportunity for designers and creative thinkers with an eye for future trends to design a billboard advertisement that would be placed in the world of Remember Me to form part of the vibrant backdrop of Neo-Paris. By visiting Adverts in 2084 contestants can view the advertising briefs for five fictional companies. Having selected one of these companies they will then be tasked with creating a billboard that promotes that brand to the citizens of Neo-Paris.

The second initiative, commencing on October 25th and running until November 29th, asks people to submit images of their most cherished memories along with a short description of why this moment was so important to them. Images would then be chosen at random to be incorporated into the Memory Overload sequences, a result of successful completion of one of Nilin’s signature attacks. Full details of this promotion will follow soon on the Remember Me Facebook page.

"The Vampire Diaries" Episode 4.04, "The Five" (11/1/12 airdate)
A FRAT PARTY AND A FLASHBACK TO 12TH CENTURY ITALY — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) goes with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) to visit Whitmore College, where Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay, “The Borgias”) is taking over the Occult Studies classes formerly taught by Bonnie’s grandmother. At a fraternity costume party, Damon takes advantage of the wild scene to give Elena a lesson in choosing a victim.

Rebekah’s (Claire Holt) attempt to buy Matt’s (Zach Roerig) forgiveness falls flat, but she is intrigued by unexpected news from Klaus (Joseph Morgan). When Stefan (Paul Wesley) questions Klaus about Connor’s (guest star Todd Williams) motives, Klaus reveals a long-ago encounter with a powerful group of vampire hunters, but it’s Rebekah who delivers the information that stuns Stefan.
