Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the famous siblings, and the storyline picks up 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, which provoked them to become witch bounty hunters. Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Thomas Mann, Derek Mears, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal also star.

Look for the flick in theatres on January 25, 2013, via Paramount Pictures.

Expect more soon, but for now keep an eye on the official Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D website!

Has the Fright Night Sequel Found a Director?Remember that Fright Night sequel to the remake we told you about a few days ago? Well, it sounds like it's on track for a direct-to-DVD release, and a director is being lined up. Read on for the details!

STYD has learned that Eduardo Rodriguez is in talks to direct the flick, which will be a stand-alone story that's gearing up for an imminent shoot in Romania. Rodriguez's prior credits include El Gringo, Stash House, Curandero, and "The Circle" episode of the "Fear Itself" anthology series. It's unlikely Colin Farrell and/or Anton Yelchin will reprise their roles from last year's remake.

We expect more news shortly so keep it here!

Uwe Boll Knights Dominic Purcell for In the Name of the King III, Produces the Knights vs. Werewolves Flick Moonrunners

$

Amazing how a film franchise that began as an earnest attempt to produce a Lord of the Rings-style epic fantasy has turned into a series of films about world-weary killers for hire getting zapped back to medieval times.

Dominic Purcell is the third actor Uwe Boll has recruited to serve In the Name of the King. “Prison Break” and Straw Dogs remake star Purcell replaces Dolph Lundgren’s suicidal soldier of fortune from part two as the latest assassin to experience a life-changing journey to a time of sword & sorcery in desperate need of a hero in Uwe Boll’s In the Name of the King III.

Synopsis:
Hazen Kaine, an American contract killer living in Sofia, Bulgaria, gets more than he bargains for when he enters into a contract with the mob. One last job before he gets out and starts a new life for himself. The targets: the three children of royal billionaire Andon Dupont. Seems simple enough, or so he thought. Hazen apprehends the children, and before he can blink an eye, a simple necklace worn by one of the children sends his life spiraling back to medieval times. Now completely out of his element, Hazen fights for his life as he tries to escape a medieval army and a fierce fire-breathing dragon.

It is here that Hazen learns what is it to be a real man and a true warrior. He must fight alongside these damsels and their people, dodging arrows and fire balls, to reclaim a kingdom that was stolen from them years before.

Not for nothing, I miss the Krug from part one. Can’t we bring back the Krug? And Jason Statham’s boomerang weapon… Remember that boomerang he used repeatedly for the first 20 minutes of the film and then never again? Dominic Purcell as a modern hitman forced to fight orc-like monsters with a boomerang in a medieval kingdom; I’d be all over that.

Expect to see In the Name of the King III sometime next year.

Uwe Boll Knights Dominic Purcell for In the Name of the King III

More knightly action will be found in the Uwe Boll-produced crusaders vs. werewolves flick Moonrunners directed by his F/X man Michaël Massias.

Synopsis:
Kingdom of France in the year of the Lord 1210. The Albigensian Crusade puts the south to fire and sword.

Hunted by crusaders, a few heretics take refuge in a vast forest. They do not know yet the beasts roaming these woods are far more deadly than the Soldiers of God. Lost in werewolves' territory, crusaders and heretics become the preys of these bloody creatures. They have only one choice to survive: Forget their differences and form an alliance to fight the moonrunners.

No word on any casting yet or when we can expect to see Moonrunners, but we'll keep you posted.

Look for Malcolm in the Middle of Destruction: Las Vegas

Look for Malcolm in the Middle of Destruction: Las VegasAn ancient Egyptian curse is unleashing sand tornadoes and hurricane force winds on Las Vegas. This sounds like a mission for Agent Cody Banks! Destruction: Las Vegas is at hand, and only Frankie Muniz can save the day!

But even “Malcolm in the Middle” can’t help everyone Stay Alive without a little help from some friends. That’s where “Todd and the Book of Pure Evil” co-star Maggie Castle, “United States of Tara” co-star Andrew Laurence, “90210” co-star Michael Steger, and the venerable Barry Bostwick as a Vegas lounge lizard come into play.

Synopsis:
As a group of college students celebrate in Las Vegas over Spring Break, a furious windstorm unlike any other descends upon the city. Hotel after hotel, the famed Vegas Strip is ripped apart by massive tornadoes of sand and hurricane-like winds. Nelson (Frankie Muniz) and Olive (Maggie Castle) discover that an ancient Egyptian curse has been awakened, and together with classic Vegas singer Sal (Barry Bostwick), they must find a way to stop it before the legendary city is entirely destroyed.

Sounds like it could be fun, especially with Jack Perez directing. You might better know Perez as the director of Some Guy Who Kills People and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

According to IMDb, Starz Media’s original title was Blowing Vegas off the Map. A pity they didn’t keep that more eye-catching title, though I fully understand why they would change it. Blowing Vegas off the Map makes it sound more like a comedy – or a porno.

Destruction: Las Vegas is billed as a TV movie so don’t be surprised if you see it on Syfy or some other cable network sometime next year.

Event Report: The sCare Foundation 2nd Annual Halloween Benefit; Exclusive Photos and Video

Event Report: The sCare Foundation 2nd Annual Halloween Benefit; Exclusive Photos and VideoDread Central hit the sCare Foundation’s 2nd Annual Halloween Benefit on Sunday, October 28, in Los Angeles and brought back some photos, video, and interviews from the genre-heavy red carpet and event. Read on!

Founded by Malek Akkad, producer of the successful Halloween franchise, the sCare (Suspense Community Allocating Relief and Empowerment) Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating the hardships of poverty and homelessness facing today’s youth throughout North America. sCare Foundation’s focus is to provide financial support to existing youth programs throughout North America as well as arranging special sCare Foundation activities for children, such as set visits, movie screenings, celebrity meet-and-greets, and more.

In addition to working with children in need, the sCare Foundation aims to involve more young people in philanthropy and develop their passions and skills to give back to their own communities. Honorary board members include filmmakers John Carpenter and James Wan, as sCare wholeheartedly believes that the suspense genre demographic is an untapped resource of unlimited potential in giving to and changing the global community and that it can be a part of the solution.

Actor Malcolm McDowell (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, A Clockwork Orange) was on hand to receive a 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award at the event, and other notables walking the L.A. Live Conga Room carpet in downtown LA included (take a breath) the following: Malek Akkad, Barbara Nedeljakova (Hostel, Hostel: Part 2), Natalie Victoria (DeadHeads), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp, Dead End), Denise Crosby (Pet Sematary), Kyle Richards (“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), ChromeSkull director Rob Hall, Leslie Easterbrook (The Devil’s Rejects), Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist), Lisa Marie (Mars Attacks!), Lew Temple (“The Walking Dead,” The Devil’s Rejects), Courtney Gains (The Children of the Corn), Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem), and from Rob Zombie’s Halloween Sybil Danning, Hannah Hall, Kristina Klebe and Scout Taylor-Compton.

Speaking with honoree McDowell on the carpet, he said of receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, “It is a bit weird. Maybe it’s a mid-life achievement award, I don’t know. I’m still working and that’s amazing. I pinch myself sometimes and thank god. I’ve got four or five projects lined up, and I could be going for another couple of years without even thinking about it, but I do enjoy working. And why shouldn’t an actor, or an actress for that matter, work through the generations? I’m certainly not the same actor that I was forty years ago, thank god!”

Touching on the iconic characters he’s created and/or redefined over the course of his prolific career (in this case, his portrayals of ‘Alex’ from A Clockwork Orange and his take on the character of ‘Dr. Samuel Loomis,’ as originated by the late, great Donald Pleasence in the original Halloween), the fifty-nine-year-old actor commented, “You know, those directors gave me a great gift to play those characters. With Dr. Loomis, it’s an extraordinary character. I had never seen the original Halloween, and Rob [Zombie] had advised me not to. He said, ‘Just do your own thing.’ And I thought to myself, ‘My god, this guy must be a real idiot.’ I mean, he’s got one patient for seventeen years, who then escapes and kills half of a town? What kind of a doctor is that? And he doesn’t have any conscious about it because he’s such an ego-driven man? But I love it though. It’s hilarious!”

Reflecting on the sCare Foundation, “It’s such a great cause,” stated McDowell. “All of us here in this business are very privileged. There are people in the street that aren’t. The sCare Foundation is extraordinary and amazing, and what they do for kids and young people is amazing, and whatever we can do for them, the young people, we should do, especially in this financial climate.”

Following the packed carpet, the festivities continued inside with actress Kyle Richards’ receipt of the 2012 Humanitarian Award, followed by the presentation of McDowell’s Lifetime Achievement Award, delivered to him by his Halloween co-star Taylor-Compton (see the video below). On its heels, the evening continued with live entertainment, a silent auction and prizes, all to benefit the life-saving programs of the Hollywood Homeless Youth Partnership, as well as Safety Harbor Kids.

Red Sea Media has released the poster art for one of its many upcoming horror titles, Alexander Alyoshechkin’s Synevir 3D, an eerie film being coined “the Ukrainian Bigfoot,” set in an historical location.

Lake Synevir, a famous lake in the Carpathian mountains of Ukraine, is known for its rich history throughout hundreds of years as a place of mystical, unexplained events. The film follows a group of skeptical students who decide to disregard the stories of strange creatures around the famous lake and spend the weekend there. They shouldn’t have.

The film marks the highly anticipated directorial debut for Alyoshechkin, who also wrote the screenplay, and stars Sergei Romanyuk, E. Morozov, and Igor Slavinsky. The film is rumored for an early 2013 release; the exact date will be announced shortly along with a trailer and the first stills so look for more soon.

First Stills from Frankenstein's Army March In

Now this is what we call a Halloween treat worth waiting for! Dark Sky Films sent over the first pair of stills from Richard Raaphorst's Frankenstein's Army, and they confirm that we've been right to keep this film locked on our radar!

From the Press Release:
Dark Sky Films has released the first two official stills from Dutch director Richard Raaphorst’s eagerly anticipated World War II horror/fantasy Frankenstein's Army. The first still features “Propellerhead”, a hulking Nazi automaton that uses its spinning rotors to slice a bloody swath through the film’s terrified, lost Russian battalion. The second grisly official still features the power-hungry Doctor Frankenstein (Hellboy’s Karel Roden) himself as he dissects an unwilling subject.

Frankenstein's Army takes place toward the end of World War II as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Viktor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein's work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades - a desperate Hitler's last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

The feature is a co-production of MPI/Dark Sky Films, Los Angeles-based XYZ Films, and Pellicola of Amsterdam. It stars Karel Roden (Hellboy), Alexander Mercury (The Golden Compass), Joshua Sasse (The Big I Am), Luke Newberry (The Heart of Me), Andrei Zayats (X-Men: First Class), Mark Stevenson (The Last Horror Movie), Hon Ping Tang (The Fifth Element), Cristina Catalina (Eastern Promises), Robert Gwylim (Escape from Sobibor), and Jan De Lukovicz.

An Early Look at Axeman at Cutter's Creek

Since announcing its full cast lineup last August, we haven't heard much about writer/director Joston Theney's Axeman at Cutter's Creek, but now the first production still from the film has arrived courtesy of independent production company Blood Red Films.

Axeman at Cutter's Creek is an 80’s style slasher film about nine vacationing twenty-somethings who are hunted down by an axe-wielding local legend.

The film stars Elissa Dowling, Tiffany Shepis, Brinke Stevens, Ray Trickitt, and Arielle Brachfeld. Rounding out the cast are Chantelle Albers, Jamie Bernadette, ERIN MARIE HOGAN, Eliza Kiss, Dylan Hobbs, Stephen Eith, J. Scott, Carlos Javier Castillo, Paula Tracey Wilson, Dave Hernandez, and NBA superstar Scot Pollard as the Axeman.

"The still depicts a pivotal scene in the film where one of our heroines, Deputy Darlene Whitfield (Arielle Brachfeld), responds to a distress call and finds a reason to become alarmed," Joston Theney, the film's writer/director, stated with a laugh.

Third and Final Poster for Fox Searchlight's Hitchcock

$

Hitchcock will be released worldwide by Fox Searchlight Pictures in a few weeks, on November 23rd to be exact, and the third and final poster for the film landed in our inbox today - just in time for Halloween!

The film, which is billed as “a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock, and his wife and partner, Alma Reville,” takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie Psycho.

Anthony Hopkins plays Hitchcock, and Helen Mirren stars as his wife. Scarlett Johansson, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D’Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow, and Kurtwood Smith also star.

The project is based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello that tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a “lowly” horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself. The movie, of course, became one of his biggest hits and one of the most influential of all time.

Claudia Lewis, President of Production, and David Greenbaum, Senior Vice President of Production, are overseeing the project for Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Synopsis
Texas Chainsaw 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

Exclusive Series: Stan Winston's Famous Monsters Day Five: More Alien Hunter Fun with Predator 2!

While it may have failed to live up to the legacy of its predecessor, Predator 2 is still one of those flicks that if I'm jumping around channels on cable and it happens to be on, I'm tuning in regardless.

Sure, it may not exactly be the crowd-pleaser that John McTiernan's Predator was in 1987, but Predator 2 was still a moderate box office success during its release in 1990 and managed to fare pretty well (in this writer's humble opinion at least) as an effective slice of a sleazeball action-packed fun with Lethal Weapon's Danny Glover taking on the alien warrior in the gritty, drug-ridden streets of Los Angeles.

Plus, Predator 2 has Gary Busey and Morton Downey, Jr., so how could you possibly go wrong?

Exclusive Series: Stan Winston's Famous Monsters Day Five: More Alien Hunter Fun with Predator 2!

For the sequel Kevin Peter Hall reprised his role as the titular antagonist, but the look of the creature went through a bit of a redesign by Stan Winston, who returned once again to bring this otherworldly hunter to life for director Stephen Hopkins (the same guy behind NOES 5: Dream Child). With the first Predator film, Winston was only tasked with creating one look and design, but as you'll be able to tell once you check out our gallery, he had a significantly bigger job on Predator 2 considering the varying looks and creatures in the flick.

So in honor of the Halloween season, we're pleased to present our gallery of some truly amazing behind-the-scenes stills for the design and alien creations for Predator 2 for our exclusive Stan Winston's Famous Monsters celebration.

The stills were provided by the Stan Winston School of Character Arts; look for more of Winston's iconic work right here on Dread Central through the Halloween season!
