Coinciding with the North American DVD release of his debut feature Darklands (which hits US and Canadian streets today), UK director Julian Richards has revealed that he is developing a sequel to his 2003 home invasion hit The Last Horror Movie, entitled Murder on Demand.

Murder on Demand brings philosophizing serial killer Max Parry to the streets of Los Angeles and promises to deliver a quintessentially English view of the value of life in America.

"Max has been living in Los Angeles for several years since the release of The Last Horror Movie and has made some interesting observations,"says Richards. "He has also become obsessed with new technology and now uses social networking sites to select victims and mobile phones to track and record his murders, some of which are already available to view on the undernet."

James Handel is currently scribing with Kevin Howarth (pictured below along with the original's trailer) expected to reprise his role as the murderous sociopath.

Meanwhile The Last Horror Movie (review here) will receive its UK TV premiere in January, 2013, courtesy of The Horror Channel.

"Host 2, is being prepped as a 3D project, according to the film's producer Chungeorahm Films. "Given the nature of the film and the current trends in the global film market, we think that 3D is the medium to go," said Su-yeon Kim at the company's international business division. "But this will delay the film's release date and bring significant changes to the film's logistics."

In retrospect we're not at all surprised, but damn it, this 3D stuff is truly getting tiresome. Just please shoot in 3D and don't convert. Look for The Host 2 sometime in 2013.

With news of Paranormal Activity 4 hitting Blu-ray and DVD coming last week, it was only a matter of time before Paramount announced the theatrical release date for Paranormal Activity 5. That time is now.

Look for the fifth entry in the franchise to hit on October 25th, 2013. Given the lackluster reception to the fourth film, we're really hoping that the powers-that-be do their best to get things back on track for the next go-around with the things that go bump in the night.

In the world of Machete nothing is ever easy for the blade-wielding Super-Mexican. Sure he gets all the babes in the movies, but in real life things aren't as pleasurable. In fact, we may not even get to see the title character's latest rampage.

According to Deadline, Overnight Productions today said it wants to cut ties with Robert Rodriguez’s Quick Draw Productions over the rights to Machete Kills. If successful, the court action could stop the release of the film – which Open Road acquired for distribution from Quick Draw last month. In the complaint filed Tuesday, the producers of 2010’s Machete are seeking to terminate the April 2012 agreement in which they granted director/producer Rodriguez the rights to make another action movie about the rogue Mexican Federale. The rights would revert back to Rick Schwartz’s Overnight. The plaintiffs are seeking $2 million in damages.

Overnight claims that earlier this month they were not provided with Texas tax credit information as required under the agreement with Rodriguez’s company. And then there is the matter of Schwartz’s fee. “Defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel”. The plaintiffs estimate that they are owed in excess of $250,000 in this aspect of their legal action.

The film is expected to have a wide release in 2013.

These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through the gruesome labyrinth. Now Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena.

The updated title of the Bryan Singer project from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. is Jack the Giant Slayer, and we'll be seeing it in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D on March 1, 2013 (instead of March 22nd as previously announced).

"The Vampire Diaries" is off this week so the denizens of Mystic Falls can celebrate Thanksgiving in peace (or should we say pieces?), but we have some news about two guest stars heading to the show - one from "Prison Break" and the other from The Twilight Saga.

Per TV Guide, Camille Guaty, whose credits include "Prison Break" and "The Nine," will play Caitlin, a woman from Professor Shane's (David Alpay) past. Meanwhile, Bewley, who portrayed vampire Demetri in the Twilight films, will play Vaughn. All we know so far about his character is that he's "tough and rugged." Could he be one of The Five that Klaus is searching for?

We should find out more soon as both actors will first appear in Episode 13, with the potential to return for more.

We recently had the opportunity to catch up with the writer behind the upcoming supernatural thriller Gallows Hill, Richard D'Ovidio, who has made a name for himself as a successful screenwriter on several projects over the last few years including Thir13en Ghosts, Exit Wounds and Brad Anderson's next project, The Hive.

During our interview with D'Ovidio, we heard more about how his love for 70's horror films inspired his latest supernaturally-infused thriller, his experiences collaborating with director Victor Garcia and the cast of Gallows Hill, and more.

Dread Central: Can you start off by discussing what inspired the story behind Gallows Hill?

Richard D'Ovidio:I have always been a big fan of contained thrillers, and I’ve always wanted to write one. Over the last ten years I found myself watching a lot of foreign horror films because they always seemed more frightening and more believable to me than the ones we were making here in the States. I think it’s because the world and the settings were unfamiliar to me. This is what I wanted to accomplish with Gallows Hill.

I also wanted to set the story in another country where the language barrier played a part in upping the tension. We tried hard to keep raising the stakes by putting the English-speaking characters into situations where they couldn’t communicate with the Spanish-speaking characters and vice versa. I wanted the audience to feel that if the characters could only understand each other, they could work together to figure out a solution. That frustration was a part of the engine of the story.

Dread Central: Did you work with Victor once he came on board the project at all? How about the actors?

Richard D'Ovidio:Yes, I worked closely with Victor on revising the story. We’re both big fans of 70’s horror films, and we wanted this to feel as realistic as possible. Some of the movies we kept referencing were psychological thrillers like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Omen, and The Shining. I also worked closely with the actors once they came on board. It was a very interesting situation where Victor, the actors, and I were all living together in a small inn in a rural area of Bogota, and we’d get together at night after work and discuss the next day’s scenes and just keep honing the script and the characters. It was a wonderfully collaborative process and a lot of fun, too.

Dread Central: So you were on set during the entire shoot then?

Richard D'Ovidio:I was, and I had a great time in Colombia working with the actors and the crew down there. The house in the movie fits perfectly with the script, and it also had a history of its own. The producer, David Higgins, and I were standing in the dark living room one night talking about the house and what kind of scary stories it could tell, when an old framed photo of the house fell off the shelf beside us and crashed to the floor. There was no wind, no one around, and we just looked at each other and laughed. But it made us jump!

Dread Central: Because you've worked on numerous successful modern horror scripts, I was curious if you could talk about your genre sensibilities- what kind of stories interest you?

Richard D'Ovidio:For me, the more grounded a movie is, the more I lose myself in it. I think the reason I’m a fan of 70’s movies, especially horror, is because the stories were so believable. Even if the movie was about the devil possessing a little girl, it always seemed realistic by showing the mother exhausting every possible medical and scientific reason behind her behavior before they finally settle on possession. Or a movie where alien pods are cloning people on earth. They just captured a realism in those films that scared the crap out of me.

Lately, I really enjoy the Paranormal Activity movies and the way they can keep you on the edge of your seat with very little going on. They can send a chill up your spine with just a door closing in the background. I love that.

It's been just over a week since cameras began rolling on the contemporary re-imagining of Richard Franklin’s seminal 1970′s Australian classic chiller Patrick, and to get you geared up for what's coming, we have your first look at star Sharni Vinson.
