The hit AMC series "The Walking Dead" officially has some new blood at its helm, and hopefully this one will stay around for more than just a season or so. The network has confirmed that supervising producer Scott M. Gimple will be showrunner for Season 4, replacing Glenn Mazzara.

In addition to that, co-executive producer, Emmy-winning special effects makeup supervisor, and director Greg Nicotero and producer Tom Luse have been elevated to executive producers, joining the current exec producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert. Production on Season 4 will begin May 6th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Scott’s voice has been an integral one since he joined the show. Greg Nicotero is a true artist whose work is simply brilliant. And Tom Luse has really created the machine that allows this very large show to get made week to week,” said AMC’s EVP Joel Stillerman. Gimple, who has been on the show’s writing staff since Season 2, has written some of the most talked-about episodes from Seasons 2 and 3, including Episode 3.06 (“Hounded”) and last season’s climatic mid-season finale Episode 2.07 (“Pretty Much Dead Already”), which revealed Sophia in the barn.

If you're heading to this weekend's CineMayhem Film Festival, you'll have a chance to see Jules Stewart's K-11 before anyone else. For the rest of you...

Breaking Glass Pictures and Libertine Films are proud to announce the upcoming March 15th theatrical and VOD release of Jules Stewart's directorial debut, K-11, a riveting drama that tells the story of a man's plight after winding up in K-11, the Los Angeles County Jail's transgender inmate unit.

From the Press Release:
Fifteen cities around the country are slated to host weeklong theatrical runs of K-11, starting at New York's Cinema Village, Los Angeles' Laemmle NoHo Theater, Phoenix's Film Bar, Columbus' Gateway Film Center, and others on March 15th. The film will be available nationwide On Demand the same day. Additional runs will follow in cities such as San Diego, San Francisco, Denver, and Daytona.

K-11 stars Goran Visnjic (ABC-TV's upcoming "Red Widow," The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, "ER") as Raymond Saxx, a businessman whose drug use leads him to incarceration in the section of the Los Angeles County Jail reserved for LGBT inmates and firmly under the heel of Mousey (Kate Del Castillo, Under the Same Moon), a malicious transgendered inmate. Saxx has no idea how he got there -- all he knows is he needs to get the hell out... alive and intact. Aggressive cellmates, corrupt officials, and his own issues are just a few challenges he deals with while he pieces together a way out of this entirely new brand of hell.

Jules Stewart, mother to Twilight star Kristen, is a lauded script supervisor with over thirty years of experience in Hollywood. In 2010 Stewart formed Libertine Films with her business partner, producer Tom Wright. K-11 is their first feature.

K-11 also stars DB Sweeney (Taken 2), Jason Mewes (Jay & Silent Bob, Clerks), Portia Doubleday (Kimberly Peirce's Carrie, Youth in Revolt) and Tommy "Tiny" Lister (The Fifth Element, Jackie Brown). Jules' son, Cameron Stewart, makes his film debut in K-11 as Sledgehammer, while her daughter, Kristen (Twilight, On the Road), makes a special contribution.

Quoth Lance Henriksen... NevermoreLance Henriksen is one of those actors we wish could go on making movies forever, and thankfully the genre-friendly thespian shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. In fact, word just broke of his new supernatural feature. Read on for the skinny!

THR is reporting that Henriksen is starring in Nevermore, a horror thriller written and being directed by Dean C. Jones. Jason Cook, a mainstay of the soap operas "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives," and Valerie Azlynn, who has appeared on shows like "Castle," also are starring in the movie, shooting in Graham, N.C.

Nevermore centers on a couple who experience paranormal activity involving dead children when they move to an estate in Massachusetts. Henriksen will play a parish priest whom the couple turn to, but the move is a mistake because the priest already knows all about resurrected children.

Albert Dickerson, Michele Weisler, and Starr Jones are producing, while Liliana Kligman is executive producing in association with Café Oscure Films and Atlantic & Pacific Pictures.

Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies... EVER! #1 - The Exorcist

    $
    0
    0

This is the one you've all been waiting for! The number one film on Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies…Ever! And could there be any other film in the top spot besides the absolute nightmare that is The Exorcist? No way.

    #1-The Exorcist

Demon: What an excellent day for an exorcism.
Father Damien Karras: You would like that?
    Demon: Intensely.
Karras: But wouldn’t that drive you out of Regan?
Demon: It would bring us together.
    Karras: You and Regan?
    Demon: You and us.

There can be only one. And in compiling Doctor Gash’s Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies…Ever!, this was the easiest selection of the bunch. At times it was tough to decide which films would make the list and where their rightful spots were, but there was never a doubt of which film would be number one. And it's number one with a bullet. You can get a second opinion, but for this doctor, The Exorcist is simply head and shoulders above the rest on being just plain scary.

Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies... EVER! #1 - The Exorcist

When you're growing up, plenty of movies scare the bejesus out of you. I remember being practically crippled with fear as a kid watching The Evil Dead. But once you're older and more jaded, very few films can really get to you. You notice the warts and the shortcomings you didn't see as a kid. For some reason, The Exorcist is the one that still gets to me. In the article for the number two film on the list, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I mentioned that Chain Saw was indeed my favorite horror film. But I couldn't put it at number one because The Exorcist is exponentially more frightening to me. It's a pleasure for me to sit down and watch Texas Chain Saw, it's uncomfortable for me to watch The Exorcist (although I try to go back and give it a gander at least once a year).

A horrific Christmas gift to us in the winter of 1973, The Exorcist was released to an unsuspecting world on December 26 and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards (winning for Best Sound and Best Adapted Screenplay). It enjoyed incredible success at the box office. In fact, until Jaws surpassed it in 1975, The Exorcist had a brief run as the highest grossing film of all time.

Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies... EVER! #1 - The Exorcist

Not only is it incredibly tense and suspenseful while viewing, The Exorcist sticks with you long after the show. And I’m talking years afterward. I literally still get chills when I see a picture of young Linda Blair in her full Regan MacNeil plumage…and the theme song, Tubular Bells, is simply haunting (and it makes a great ringtone). For me, this is the sign of a truly horrific film, one that stays with you, haunts you after you watch it…those movies you can't shake after leaving the theater or turning off your television. The best, the most effective horror movies, are the ones that creep into your psyche and plant roots there. The ones that stay with you, and lay dormant, until you are alone, in a quiet, dark space with just your mind to entertain you. That's when they tend to come back and remind you that they're still there. The possessed Regan is in here with me just like the demon was in there with her, and she makes her presence felt every once in a while…and she still scares the shit out of me.

Director William Friedkin builds the story masterfully. And what an amazing story it is. Aside from the obvious focal point of the possessed girl, Father Damien Karras' painful personal struggles add an additional level to the film and his loss of faith is woven into the main tale brilliantly. The demon cuts deep into Father Karras' psyche, using every possible angle to weaken the faltering priest. Max Von Sydow's experienced exorcist, Father Lankester Merrin, and his familiarity with the situation enlightens us to the power of the creature, making the climax of the film even creepier.

Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies... EVER! #1 - The Exorcist

But what is it that really sticks with you after viewing the film? Everything behind that goddamn bedroom door is what sticks with you. The imagery of Regan as her body is ravaged by the demon is disturbing enough on its own. Add to this the incredible vocal work done by Mercedes McCambridge (the voice of the demon) and the intense content of the scenes and you have the perfect storm of horror. Fear, despair, sadness, loss of faith, loss of loved ones, denial, possession…it's all there in The Exorcist. Incredible.

I must take one second to again mention Mercedes McCambridge because I do believe it's the voice of the demon that truly puts this film over the top. Regan would not been nearly as frightening without the right voice, and this brilliant actress delivered the performance of a lifetime. Demons are scary, yes…but demons with just the right demonic presence are cripplingly scary.

Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies... EVER! #1 - The Exorcist

For me, The Exorcist appears unapproachable as the scariest film of all time. It is Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game, DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak. Even the great movies gracing Doctor Gash’s Top 10 list come up short in comparison to the lasting impact this film has on this viewer. It’s a masterpiece of horror. Simply put, this is how it’s done.

But we've always got our eyes peeled for the next great film to make this list…

And with that, Dreaddies, I close this feature. I cannot thank you enough for your open-mindedness and participation in reading Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies…Ever! It's a list that I've been wanting to share with you for a long time and thanks to Uncle Creepy and The Woman in Black I was able to do so. This is my Graceland. I know we didn't all agree on every entry, but I appreciate you taking the time to read the articles to get an understanding of just what the hell I was thinking with each film on here. I hope you had as much fun reading this as I did writing it and again, thanks so much for your attention and comments. You guys rule! –Gash

AMC’s The Walking Dead has enlightened us with survival tips for the day America is overrun with walkers. Jumping straight into The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, you will find yourself roaming deserted towns and lonely roads that will make you wonder as to how you’re still lucky enough to be alive.

The first tip? Walkers can see, hear and smell you. Don’t let their mangled heads and bodies fool you. You’d be surprised how lethal a one-armed walker can be. Crouching and moving slowly makes you less noticeable, which is key as you travel around. More noise will only draw attention, so moving swiftly and silently is essential. If one walker hears you, the rest of the herd will, too. It’s only a matter of time before you’re surrounded and you become one of them.

As you navigate walker-infested environments, use your surroundings to your best advantage. Crouch to get cover from cars, walls, debris – anything that keeps you hidden. Stay alert though as you don’t want to be caught off guard and swarmed by walkers ready to rip you to shreds. Having your back up against a wall will almost guarantee you a one-way ticket to walker hell, so keep moving.

You’ll find this tip useful in the beginning of the journey, and while it may seem obvious, it is excellent practice - instead of heading head-on into walkers, flank the outside areas of towns and shoot down straggling walkers from afar, before heading towards the center.

If you get overwhelmed, you want to make sure to give yourself some breathing room and a chance to run away and live to fight another day. Shutting doors behind you should become a healthy habit to adapt. Walkers can attack from behind and often you won’t hear them coming. A closed door may not stop the walkers completely, but will surely slow them down. The more time you give yourself the better.

As you advance throughout each stopover, take note of all collectibles. Good items to stock up on are scattered and hidden, including MRE’s (meals ready to eat) and sports drinks. These items replenish your health, allowing you to continue the mission. Besides food, you also come across weapons and ammo. Ranged weapons such as shotguns and sniper rifles are great, but alert any surrounding walkers to your location. Melee weapons such as axes, knifes, and hammers are great for close combat. Ammo is extremely scarce, so you must ration and preserve bullets for extreme encounters.

Walkers are attracted to anything that catch their attention. Since the goal is to be the last thing that catches their eye, find your best distraction method. Bottles and flares can be used to divert walkers when thrown across in the opposite direction. It’s an easy way to create a safe route to your next destination.

Propane tanks can be used as a makeshift bomb, ready and waiting to blast away anything nearby. Strategically place them near or around a herd, and once at a safe distance, shoot the explosive and enjoy the walker firework show. Hidden around certain levels, you’ll come across grenades. Don’t miss this golden opportunity, because any explosive is your ticket to safety. Since grenades are rare, use them sparingly and to their maximum potential. It would be smart to hold onto them until you can really maximize the damage they do. A great strategy is running around walkers to lure them all into one large group. Run to a safe distance, throw the grenade, and boom goes the dynamite – along with the remains of plenty of walkers.

To live to see another day you must have a solid team. Always remember that you aren’t alone in this walker-infested world, so make sure you’re on the lookout for survivors. They offer you different items, weapons, and can help, with activities such as hunting and retrieving fuel. For instance, early in the game, you meet a desperate man trapped for what looks like weeks. Helplessly stuck in a garage, he offers you gas for your truck in exchange for a safe ride out of town. Being that this is early on, you have enough seats in your car. Completing this task returns a decent trade-off as you get the help of a stealthy survivor who can assist in scavenging for gas, food and supplies. Make team choices that better your chance for survival. You’ll run into conflicts when coming across survivors, but at the end of the day, everyone can’t fit in your car, and there’s rarely enough food to feed every empty stomach.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is scheduled to be released in North America on March 19th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U. It is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB.
