Synopsis
For the first time in 35 years, Daniel Lutz recounts his version of the infamous Amityville haunting that terrified his family in 1975. George and Kathy Lutz's story went on to inspire a best-selling novel, and the subsequent films have continued to fascinate audiences today. This documentary reveals the horror behind growing up as part of a world famous haunting, and while Daniel's facts may be others' fiction, the psychological scars he carries are indisputable.

Manborg and Priest of Evil Firing Their Way to Home Video

The forces of Hell have risen to the surface of the Earth to wreak unspeakable havoc on humanity. And it will take a real superhuman to save the world. Or at least Manborg - a spectacular creature of the future and the hero of MANBORG, the cult favorite sci-fi/fantasy homage coming to select theaters and DVD on April 30, 2013, from Dark Sky Films.

The armies of hell have taken over the Earth, and all that stands in the way of the villainous Count Draculon and humanity's total extinction is a motley crew of misfits led by the mighty Manborg: a warrior who's half-man, half-machine, but all hero.

Once a young soldier killed during the first war against hell, Manborg (Matthew Kennedy, Lazer Ghosts 2) reawakens in the future, rebuilt as a walking weapon and mankind's last hope. Struggling to learn the secret of his origins, Manborg unwittingly befriends a post-apocalyptic Australian punker (Conor Sweeney, Heart of Karl), a knife-wielding vixen (Meredith Sweeney, Father's Day) and a kung fu master (dubbed by Kyle Herbert of DRAGON BALL Z, STREET FIGHTER) before finally squaring off against Count Draculon (Adam Brooks, Father's Day) in a desperate and bloody bid to take back the Earth.

This campy, comedic action flick, which Variety called "enjoyably ridiculous," is also an affectionate and clever tribute to fan favorite '80s films and videogames like The Terminator, RoboCop and Mortal Kombat.

Peter Howell of the Toronto Star called it "an energizing and cheesy homage to and parody of 1980s sci-fi horror action movies. ... It's also a marvel of DIY makeup, costuming and special effects." Matt Looker of website The Shiznit called it "perfect parody."

MANBORG is a tour de force for writer-director-editor-makeup artist Steven Kostanski, whose credits include the horror hit Silent Hill and Guillermo del Toro's forthcoming sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim. This lo-fi sci-fi epic from infamous filmmaking collective Astron-6 (Father's Day) was met with an uproariously enthusiastic reception from audiences. Executive produced by TIFF Midnight Madness guru Colin Geddes (Ultra 8 Pictures) and Toronto After Dark's Peter Kupowsky,MANBORGcelebrated its world premiere at Austin's 2011 Fantastic Fest, and also impressed fans at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Fantasia, and has played more than 30 major film festivals worldwide including Whistler, Lund in Sweden, Boston Underground, U.K. Sci-Fi, and Neuchatel in Switzerland.

Filmmaker Chad A. Verdi Taps Tom DeNucci to Direct Army of the Damned, Filming Begins in April

Don’t look now but the Woodhaven Production Company is at it again. Producer Chad A. Verdi has announced his newest film, Army of the Damned, will begin filming in April.

Verdi was so impressed with Tom DeNucci, who wrote and directed his previous film, Self Storage, that he handed him the reins of this film as well.

Woodhaven has previously released the Robert Englund vehicle Inkubus, followed by Infected which starred William Forsythe and Michael Madsen. Dig the original artwork for Army of the Damned below.

From the Press Release
Verdi Productions and The Woodhaven Production Company announce that Rhode Island filmmaker Chad A. Verdi has tabbed writer/director Tom DeNucci to direct his next horror film, Army of the Damned. Filming will begin in April with a star studded cast to be announced soon. David Gere and Seth Rosenblit will join Verdi and Gino Pereira as producers on the project. The film will be shot by cinematographer Sam Eilertsen.

Army of the Damned tells the story of a hit reality TV show film crew following a group of local cops in a sleepy town. Things go horribly wrong when they respond to a call that brings a whole new meaning to the term "domestic disturbance." Faced with life and death situations, these officers are forced to throw the rule book out in order to stay alive. The lawmen do all they can to serve, protect and avoid joining the Army of the Damned.

Verdi will produce four films in the state of Rhode Island over the next 18 months. "This film will mark the start of one of the most aggressive production schedules ever attempted by a production company. It was not our intention to try to film all four feature films in 18 months, we had a five year plan when we started out. But due to actor and director commitments, along with the financing and distribution schedule, we decided to pull the trigger and run with it," Verdi said

Verdi's latest films, Infected and Self Storage, are being released through Screen Media and will each reach over 100 million homes through Universal's VOD platform starting with Infected on April 10 and Self-Storage on June 2. The release dates on both films were moved up due to high demand.

Exclusive: Noah Hughes and Darrell Gallagher Discuss the Dark Side of Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider will release for Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 5, 2013. We recently sat down with Crystal Dynamic’s Head of Studio, Darrell Gallagher, and Creative Director, Noah Hughes to get some insight into the horrors ahead.

Read on to learn why Lara Croft’s origin story is dark, gory and violent!

AMANDA DYAR: The new Tomb Raider has a lot of gory deaths, blood and violence. What prompted this new direction and the need for a darker, grittier tone?

NOAH HUGES:One of the things that we wanted to do this time was to tell Lara's origin story, and introduce people to a more human Lara Croft. She had become an icon that was sort of invulnerable in a way and that made it harder to root for her as a character. We wanted to create a story that wasn't clear if Lara was going to succeed and survival became sort of our vision for that theme. We realized at some point that part of that sense of life and death situation that survival represents--really survival is that fight to live in the face of death--which gives a sort of man versus wild theme to our story. We didn't really want to have to necessarily sanitize that and wanted to create an experience were the island really did feel lethal. When you succeeded you felt that great sense of success because you earned something in the game like an upgrade or something like that. But if you failed, you also felt that ‘ouch that hurt,’ this is not just a vacation on a tropical island. This is a life or death situation. Once that was created then that was a force powerful enough to ask Lara to grow as a character then we could turn this young, ambitious archeologist into a more hardened survivor and ultimately walking the path toward becoming that tomb raider that we all know and love. It was really a matter of sort of being true to the vision of life and death survival being the catalyst in which we would forge Lara Croft.

Exclusive: Noah Hughes and Darrell Gallagher Discuss the Dark Side of Tomb Raider

AMANDA: In rebooting such a well-known franchise, how did your team approach that while staying true to the fans?

NOAH:That was king of the core-balancing act that we knew we were taking on. We certainly wanted to celebrate what people loved about Tomb Raider and bring all of our classic fans along for the journey. But we also knew that when you talk about the forces that inspired our sort of reboot when you look at franchises like James Bond that it is inspiring to see them flourish fifty years after their inception. So for us there is a sense we feel that Tomb Raider as a franchise and Lara Croft as a character have those exciting attributes that can keep it fresh. This is a franchise where you can talk to my mom and they know who Lara Croft is. There is a sense that, as scary as it is, to change it but there is an obligation to continue to make it fresh and relevant. We went into it knowing that we had a difficult balance and deliver both that Tomb Raider experience at its core but deliver in a way that people had never seen before. We just feel confident that was the right thing to do.

AMANDA: An exciting new edition to Tomb Raider is the expanded multiplayer. What was the motivation in adding this to the series when it was only included previously as a DLC?

DARRELL GALLAGHER:For us it was more of an evolution then something that was new. It really started with us saying we wanted to try something different with the franchise and we had to take some bold steps to do that as the creators of the game and where the industry is at. We don't want to be afraid of doing something new and Guardian of Light was the first expression of that when we did co-op multiplayer. We did this for a couple of reasons, first we enjoyed the challenge of creating something that was traditionally a single-player experience into co-op. And two because of how much people enjoyed playing it which was a real foundation that we could actually try new things and take bold chances and it would work. The third thing is that we have the technology and the engine and the we hadn’t done before for the multiplayer. For all of these reasons, we realized the next step was to take the game to multiplayer. We spent so long crafting this island, this world, this fiction, as well as all the mechanics that go with it, and we felt it would be nice actually to have a reason to stick around and enjoy those things for longer and play multiplayer versus a single player game.

NOAH:We also knew that necessarily not all of our fans would want to do that. We also approached it in a way that we did not want to trade single player campaign for Lara’s origin story experience for multiplayer. So we ended up just creating a complimentary experience that players can jump in and pick up some play real quickly while having fun with their friends. We still felt in a way that we could focus internally at Crystal Dynamics on a single player story that wouldn’t feel like it was sacrificed because of multiplayer. We really approached it as something that would add to the experience rather than offer instead of what people expected out of Tomb Raider for single player campaign.

Exclusive: Noah Hughes and Darrell Gallagher Discuss the Dark Side of Tomb Raider

AMANDA: There have been many terrifying enemies throughout the series, did the team try to top this with the new release. Also, what takes the enemies in Tomb Raider to the next level?

NOAH:A lot of what we try to do with the enemies in the game was a similar approach to the rest of the game which was to ground it a bit. Things that are scary to me about enemies is when they feel real and feel like a part of the world--rather it is the wildlife when the wolves are coming out of the shadows growling--but a part of that is to make them feel like a threatening part of the environment versus a video game character thrown in. Same thing with the inhabitants on the island, we really wanted to ground their story into the island’s story and make them feel like a part of that world. Obviously their motivation puts them at odds with Lara, and their way of operating makes them a great threat to Lara and that builds a conflict there. Part of what makes them scary and intimidating is that you sort of believe them within the context of the game. Another thing we really tried to do was treat the island as almost an enemy. We tried to create a sense of foreboding atmosphere--so the island itself really presented physical threats through perilous climbing and these man versus nature situations. Also, the weather and the idea of snow, rain and lightning--that is another thing that helps with having a strong effect from the enemies is placing them in a context-rich atmosphere and really leveraging that atmosphere. For us, the island really become a type of enemy in that way as well.

Well, after much discussion, it looks like a sequel to Sinister (Blu-ray review here) is on its way. Read on for the latest on the continuing adventures of Mr. Boogie.

Deadline is reporting that Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions is moving forward on its third micro-budget franchise with Sinister 2, the sequel to last year’s horror pic that grossed more than $87M worldwide off of a $3M budget. The move to build the Sinister franchise follows in the footsteps of Blumhouse’s successes with the Paranormal Activity and Insidious series of ultra-low-budget genre hits.

They go on to say that all of the major behind-the-scenes players are back for Sinister 2, including creators Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. They wrote the original, which Derrickson also directed. Thinking is that they’ll write the sequel.

Stay tuned.

A short while ago we got to see what Cemetery Dance was putting together for its special editions of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, and now finally Scribner has unveiled the official artwork for its hardcover edition of King's long awaited sequel to The Shining.

King's official site revealed the cover today, and it most definitely gets our stamp of approval. Doctor Sleep is being released on September 24th, 2013.

Synopsis:
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.

On highways across America a tribe of people called "The True Knot" travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

After a week long reprieve from the yellowish norm, we're back in the groove with a new image from David Twohy's Riddick sequel. Check out this latest photo of the Furian taking on The Animal, former WWE superstar Dave Bautista.

Riddick stars Vin Diesel and is based on a script by David Twohy, who wrote both Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black, where he first created the character of Riddick.

Joining Diesel are a returning Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako; Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's "Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Aliens in America), and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

Riddick and Former WWE Superstar Batista Square-Off in New Image

    Synopsis:
Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Filming Set to Commence on Lazarus; Casting Details, Artwork, and Teaser Trailer

    Synopsis:
It is the year 1957 in Hollywood, CA. A telegram arrives at the office of George Lazarus, an insurance investigator with the assignment to look into a suspicious claim that was just put in by Harvest International Tobacco Company. Lazarus begins to schedule routine interviews with the twelve employees that are named on this claim. He learns that they all had just gotten fired for being sick at the job. He never makes it back to the office. What seemed to be a normal fraud investigation case may have turned out to be the beginning of the end for the human race. His fiancee, Bethany, begins to worry as she realizes that he hasn't been back at the office since early that morning and he hasn't checked in either. Not the behavior from a man who lives by daily routine. She decides to follow his path in hopes of locating him. Nothing can prepare her for what she is about to witness in this eerily horrific pre-apocalyptic tale.

    Synopsis:
Joe Fitzgerald was a mob enforcer until the day he met Laura, who convinced him to leave that world behind. Before quitting, Joe agreed to one last job, little realizing that the man he'd been sent to kill was deeply involved in demonlogy. He survived Joe's attempt and came after him, fatally wounding Joe and killing Laura. As he lay dying, an angelic force (who may or may not be what she appears) pointed out that where she is going, he can't follow, and where he is going, he wouldn't want her to follow. But if he will agree to work for them as a different kind of enforcer, they will bring him to life and keep on bringing him to life every time he is killed in a righteous cause. The reward: For those five minutes of death, he will be with Laura again.

Would you endure an eternity of pain and death, dying over and over, to be with the woman you love for just five minutes each time you died? Most people might say no. But Joe Fitzgerald isn't most people.
