Future of Zombieland Series in YOUR Hands; First Official StillOur friends over at Amazon Studios sent out an interesting press release regarding their upcoming pilot for the proposed "Zombieland" TV series along with your first look at the new (old) gang all together. Check 'em both out now.

From the Press Release
Amazon Studios, the original movie and series production arm of Amazon.com, announced it will add cult classic Zombieland to the line-up of pilots already in production for Prime Instant Video. Zombieland, which is the seventh comedy pilot added to Amazon’s pilot line-up, will be made available (along with the other six comedy pilots and six children’s pilots) for free on Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM UK. Customers are invited to view the pilots and then review them on the site; customer feedback will help determine which of the 13 pilots Amazon Studios will make into full-season productions, to air on Prime Instant Video.

“Zombieland is a fan favorite and we can’t wait to see where this storyline goes in a serialized format,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, and Justified; and we think adding original shows to that lineup is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

Zombieland is based on the hit Columbia Pictures movie of the same name and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The Zombieland pilot comes from the feature film’s original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Joe Schmo Show), and producer Gavin Polone (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) is directing the pilot.

The part of Tallahassee will be played by Kirk Ward (The Island), Maiara Walsh ("Desperate Housewives,""Switched at Birth") is cast as Wichita, Tyler Ross (Milkshake) will play Columbus, and Izabela Vidovic has the role of Little Rock.

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format,” said creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show, but Amazon is not your average network.”

Amazon Studios, the original movie and series production arm of Amazon.com, has begun production on six comedy pilots, Alpha House, Browsers, Dark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural and Those Who Can’t. Additionally, six children’s series are also currently in production, including Creative Galaxy, Oz Adventures, Teeny Tiny Dogs, Tumbleaf, Sara Solves It, and The Untitled J.J. Johnson Project.

Holliston Cast Thrills Another Convention with Live Reading in Preparation for Season 2 Premiering on June 4Much like they did at Rock and Shock in Worcester, MA, back in October, the cast of "Holliston" performed a live reading at HorrorHound in Cincinnati to the delight of the packed house.

They call it "Holliston Live" and it involves the cast members performing a special episode live at the convention. And, as you can see from the standing ovation in the photo, convention fans love it! Adam Green’s response? "So crazy... So, so crazy."

Dig Joe Lynch's photo from the event (click on it for a better look) and get ready for "Holliston," Season 2 coming on June 4 on FEARnet.

 (click for larger image)

From the Press Release
FEARnet will premiere the second season of the hit original sitcom "HOLLISTON" on Tuesday, June 4, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT as part of its Twisted Comedy Block, it was announced by Peter Block, president and general manager of FEARnet. Season Two of the series—which was renewed for a second season after just two episodes had aired—is set for a 10-episode order, an increase of four episodes over Season One.

FEARnet is currently carried by a majority of the major U.S. cable operators and is in nearly 10 million homes and growing. To benefit those fans who are unable to experience the show on Tuesday nights, for the first time ever, each week’s episode will be streamed on FEARnet.com starting Thursday, June 6, and will be available for a seven-day period. Fans can also catch up on episodes on FEARnet On Demand every Wednesday after a new episode premieres.

"HOLLISTON"—created by celebrated genre filmmaker, Adam Green, who wrote and produced the upcoming HATCHET III, in theaters this June—stars Green and fellow real-life genre filmmaker Joe Lynch (KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, WRONG TURN 2), as “Adam” and “Joe,” two aspiring horror filmmakers, dealing with the struggles of life, love, and career aspirations during the post-college period where nothing ever seems to work out like it should. With relatable storylines inspired by Green’s own life experiences that mash-up traditional situational comedy plot lines with popular horror genre-themes, "HOLLISTON" is the hip and edgy horror-fueled sitcom that FEARnet fans had been waiting for and have now embraced wholeheartedly.

The series also stars Laura Ortiz as Joe’s longtime girlfriend and adorably demented artist; Corri English as Adam’s confused and on-again/off-again childhood sweetheart; and heavy metal icons Dave Brockie as "Oderus Urungus," Adam’s twisted closet-dwelling imaginary friend and guardian angel, and Dee Snider as "Lance Rockett," the delusional wannabe rockstar who runs the local cable station where "Adam" and "Joe" work. Season Two is loaded with appearances from genre stars such as Bill Moseley (TEXAS CHAINSAW), Kane Hodder (HATCHET III), Sid Haig (THE LORDS OF SALEM), David Naughton (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON), Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN IV and V), Bailee Madison (DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK), and James Gunn (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY).

"'HOLLISTON' demonstrates not only the breadth of FEARnet’s programming, but also the broad reach of the horror culture. We surprised people by opting for a sitcom. Now, we’re going to surprise them with the places 'HOLLISTON' goes, as Season Two really celebrates the genre with episodes that mock, embrace, and twist the types of scary movies we love," said Block.

"We are thrilled with how quickly we’ve found an audience with this series and this cast," added Green. "'HOLLISTON' was designed to fill a missing gap in situational television comedies and speak directly to genre fans who can’t typically find these types of themes or comedic sensibilities in the average sitcom."

Following the events of the first season, Season Two ups the ante of outrageousness, taking the show to a wide range of unexpected places. Highlights include the series’ first animated episode, finding the town attacked by a giant blob; a Ringu-inspired J-horror episode; a found footage episode; and a one-hour season finale that will boast two special musical performances by the talented cast and a shocking final scene that will raise the dead. The second season will also feature some surprising twists and developments for the four main friends that will have a major impact on their lives and leave viewers anxious for more.

"HOLLISTON" is produced for FEARnet by Adam Green’s TV and film production company, ArieScope Pictures, in association with The Hacienda Film Co. and A Bigger Boat Productions. Joining Green and Lynch as executive producers are Cory Neal and Andrew Mysko, as well as producers Sarah Elbert, Will Barratt, and Sean Becker, who directed many of the episodes this season.

Michael Pare Enters The ShelterJohn Fallon dropped us a line with some news of his latest project, The Shelter, along with a promo poster for the flick. Check it out, and look for more on the movie which proves nowhere is safe soon!

    From the Press Release
Actor Michael Paré (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Virgin Suicides) has officially been cast as the lead role of Thomas in John Fallon’s upcoming feature length directorial debut THE SHELTER.

Fallon had this to say about Michael Paré’s casting:

“For my debut, I am trying to surround myself with people that I know and trust. And the same M.O. went for the lead role of Thomas. I needed an actor that I knew as a person on some level, had the chops to do the role justice and who would be an ally on set. Michael Paré was the first name on my list; in fact, I had him in mind when I wrote the script. He’s my kind of guy: straightforward, committed, intelligent and humble. He is also very talented. Elated to have him on-board!”

And Michael Paré had this to say about the script:

"I read John Fallon's script The Shelter, and it tells a great and painful tragedy. Not about global disaster or war or economic collapse but of the individual human heart. The human heart and soul is what all art seeks to unravel. Guilt, regret and shame kill the heart and soul. When our lower animal nature dominates our character, our soul is lost."

The Shelter is written and directed by John Fallon and produced by Donny Broussard (Bigfoot Productions Inc.) and John Fallon (Bruise Productions Inc.). Michael Paré will also be the film’s executive producer.

The Shelter is presently in pre-production and slated to start filming in January 2014.

    Synopsis
On a star-filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas (Michael Pare) finds shelter for the night when he falls upon a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls on in, thinking he just caught a lucky break, and for a while it would appear as though he did. Inside, with nobody in sight, he finds all of the comforts that he used to have. After taking a bath, feasting wholeheartedly on some food and relishing the silliness on the tube, he gets some well-earned shut eye.

All is well until a restless Thomas wakes up in a panic and finds a loaded revolver resting on his lap. Baffled, he picks up the weapon, checks the barrel and notes that it is fully loaded. A visceral sense of unease invades him immediately. Something is very wrong, and he decides that it is time to leave. Alas, he finds out swiftly that the premises won’t let him depart so quickly. The doors are all locked, and the windows puzzlingly cannot be opened or broken. Destiny has brought Thomas to this place. Will he survive the ordeal?

Jim VanBebber Talks The Manson Family, Gator Green, and True 70's Style Grindhouse CinemaA true grindhouse maverick who hates happy endings, Jim VanBebber has made a name for himself in the world of low-budget, independent exploitation cinema as a writer/director and sometimes actor.

Since his first feature, Deadbeat at Dawn (1988), his gritty, outlaw style of filmmaking has generated films that are unapologetic in their realism and singular in their vision.

In 2004 VanBebber took on Charlie Manson. Shot over four years, The Manson Family is a documentary-style (though semi-fictional) look at the Manson cult filled with lurid sex, shocking violence and murderous flower power. For its 10th anniversary The Manson Family is being unleashed nationwide complete with VanBebber's Kickstarter-fueled short Gator Green (get theater listings here). A special edition Blu-ray release will follow on May 7th by Severin Films, which will include the short and a documentary on the making of The Manson Family, entitled The VanBebber Family.

Jim recently took time to speak with Dread Central about Manson, Gator Green and true 70's grindhouse cinema.

Dread Central: What is the plot of The Manson Family for our readers who haven’t seen it yet?

Jim VanBebber: Well, it’s basically an experimental sort of mock-documentary. It’s a strange film to “genre-fy,” but it basically tells the story of the Manson Family from probably around late ’67 to up to their infamous murder spree. It pretty much ends there. It would make a great double feature with the 1976 TV movie Helter Skelter because that covers the trial pretty much, and it does a great job of that, so if you watch those two films together, you've got your Manson 101.

Dread Central: How did you find your Charlie for your film--it’s hard to follow Steve Railsback…

Jim VanBebber: Well, we really didn’t want to go that route. I mean, Railsback is great, but it’s sort of a one-note performance, and he’s just huffing and puffing like a mad dog. Yeah, it works for the film, but it’s sort of… who would follow someone like that? So we took a calmer approach. It was a guy I knew from film school, Marcelo Games.

Dread Central: What about him is Manson-esque?

Jim VanBebber: It was just when we decided to make the film, he had the look, and I knew he could act, and he knew filmmaking, and it was really an easy fit.

Dread Central: What is the fascination with Charles Manson? A lot of counter-culture people find him fascinating--the man, the icon that manipulates the masses and takes on Hollywood with infamous results.

Jim VanBebber: Well, he definitely has a footprint in American criminal history. I guess because he’s been so unrepentant and has such a crazy style and vocabulary, charisma, what have you, that he’s folklore; he’s last century’s Billy the Kid. It’s strange. It’s something I think we acknowledge in the film and give lip service to that phenomenon.

Dread Central: How did the screenplay come about?

Jim VanBebber: Well, you know, at first [when] I decided to do this, I said to a friend of mine, an actor and a writer, Mark Gillespie, “Take a crack at it,” and gave him research materials that I had at that point. He wrote a script that I threw out but kept the structure, which is that the old defendants, the Family in jail, were talking to a reporter, like Geraldo Rivera, telling the story that way, because you can get a lot of exposition across in that fashion, and it’s a style I like. Bob Fosse used it really well in Lenny and All That Jazz, definitely Star 80. You know, make people tell the story and then show what they are talking about. Then it grew, the film moved on, the actual shooting was spread over four years, so I would get more and more research materials, either from old magazines or tapes or books or whatever, and adjust things; and I think through all that I cobbled together at least as much truth as I could. I mean, no one will know for sure.

Dread Central: What did your four years of research uncover?

Jim VanBebber: Well, I think something that had been missing and not really discussed, especially by Bugliosi, the prosecutor, was the importance of Bobby Beausoleil, him stabbing Gary I mean. I really believe that Manson instructed the girls. It’s not certain if the girls came up with it and he approved, they were making a copycat killing, so that Bobby would get released from jail. That’s one. I don’t know; it’s a power packed, dense film. It depends on how much you know about the case. I think the film works if you don’t know that much about the case.

Dread Central: How did it finally make its way to Blu-ray?

Jim VanBebber: Well, the final producers who stepped in to get the film finished the way I wanted it finished--I mean, I had a lot of offers to dump it on DVD, and I wanted a 35 blow-up and a good 5.1 surround sound mix -- finally met David Gregory and his partner in England, and those guys came on board. So it’s been ten years. We were with Dark Sky [Films] out of MPI for the DVD, and they were great to us, but Carl [Daft] and David [Gregory] also [ran] the DVD company with John Cregan called Severin. So you know, they called me up, and we knew we had to find a new home for it, and he was like, "What do you think about Severin?" David and Carl were also going the extra distance by looking at this cross-country theatrical run, which is very exciting, and that’s going to be a 35 print in all of those theaters.

Dread Central: How has it played to audiences in the past?

Jim VanBebber: I think it shocks them.

Dread Central: Which is hard to do, right, nowadays?

Jim VanBebber: This is true. I mean, it depends. Some of these screams that are coming… I mean, you’ll have hardcore war fans, beer-drinkers, go in there and treat it like a football game, but discussing the film and it's got this cold rep, I guess. Yeah, right off the bat I think people were shocked. And if they haven’t seen it, I hope it does shock because it’s a shocking subject. Wouldn’t want to put the kid gloves on for this one.

Jim VanBebber Talks The Manson Family, Gator Green, and True 70's Style Grindhouse CinemaDread Central: We hear the next project you’re working on is Gator Green.

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, that will be screening with all the screenings of The Manson Family. It’s fifteen minutes long, and it’s designed to help me raise money for the feature. Everything is sort of in the works. But it definitely shows… it gives the vibe of what the film is. It’s a sequence from the middle of the script. All real gators, you know; no CGI for that endeavor.

Dread Central: I do know that Gator Green is loosely based on Joe Ball, another infamous killer…

Jim VanBebber: That was the kickoff, I think. I saw the little mini-documentary that Todd Wieneke did. I don’t know if it made the final release of Dark Sky's DVD of Tobe Hooper’s Eaten Alive. So I guess that’s what Tobe was working with, and you know, it’s just a great old story. Joe Ball, in Texas, had an alligator pit, tossing waitresses and stuff. This one is a Vietnam veteran; he comes in and illegally takes over an alligator farm and gets his veteran friends in there, and he’s just nuts and he lives very badly and he’s all screwed up and kills a lot of people. It’s a throwback drive-in movie. I make no apologies about it. The Manson Family is a serious, important film. Gator Green is a candy bar, but an entertaining one. I love movies like Pigs, Eaten Alive, so it seemed like the thing to do.

Dread Central: Can you talk about your interest in the genre?

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, it was the Famous Monsters of Filmland; it was available there on the bookshelves and the magazine shelves, and I just became obsessed. I grew up watching a great horror host called Doctor Creep who hosted "Shock Theater" on a Dayton television station. I just grew up with monster movies and started going to R-rated movies in the Seventies; even though I was under age, they didn’t care. Just, you know, great, great cinema when it’s well done or fun when it’s not even well done. I like horror films.

Dread Central: Your films take a very grim point of view, which I love. Where does that come from? Is it something that you saw in older films and said, "I want to create something like that!"?

Jim VanBebber: I think it was growing up and going to movies in the Seventies because the heroes were anti-heroes, and they usually died. Look at the ending of Vanishing Point or Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. Plus the matter of Taxi Driver or Rolling Thunder, these grim fogs, Willard… it’s great fucking shit, but it’s all pretty grim. It’s not happy endings. Is Willard even a hero? Well, yes and no, you know? You end up rooting for him like hell, but his own rats get him at the end.

Dread Central: Can you talk a little bit about your classic film Deadbeat at Dawn? Just how that came about. We’re discussing grindhouse films, and it seems so appropriate, like a time capsule.

Jim VanBebber: Well, I was in film school, and Evil Dead came out. Saw it in ’83, ’84, something like that; and me and Mike King and Marcelo [Jim’s collaborators] said, "Fuck this; let’s make a feature." So we incorporated ourselves and raised money, but that was an ongoing thing; we never had the entire budget raised. It was just something you could show at a drive-in. It was the end of the Eighties, and the Eighties were chock-full of Chuck Norris films, and Stallone and Steven Seagal, and I was like, "Let’s do a gritty version of one of those things with fantastical street gangs and get a lot of drugs in it, in pitiful locations, and just make it." It was grimy but still an action film. It was just going for broke, you know?

Jim VanBebber Talks The Manson Family, Gator Green, and True 70's Style Grindhouse Cinema

Dread Central: I saw on line that you did all your own martial arts in Deadbeat at Dawn.

Jim VanBebber: Karate… yeah, I studied for two years with Sifu Mustapha [Kenyatta] in Dayton, but before that I was screwing around on my own. Two years of formal training, and I was like, "Okay, I’m good enough for camera." I don’t think I’ll be entering any championship tournaments or anything. At least it’s neat instead of having to deal with stunt doubles. We couldn’t afford them anyways.

Dread Central: I feel you did a good job.

    Jim VanBebber: Thank you.

Dread Central: When we look at cinema today, with everyone trying to go for the jugular and horror being so popular and you can buy Evil Dead II T shirts at the mall—what do you feel is missing in the genre? Do you feel that exploitation cinema is alive? I feel other countries offer it, but America is way too slick in its product.

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, I can’t say I’m too jazzed with what I’ve seen with the red band trailer of Evil Dead. I mean, it’s almost like it’s too slick. It looks… you can almost tell it’s New Zealand, those New Zealand crews, and it’s fucking slick and taking itself too fucking seriously. I thought Django Unchained was a great exploitation flick.

Dread Central: That was a great film, yes. It was more grindhouse than his previous attempt in the film Grindhouse.

Jim VanBebber: That’s what I thought. Yeah, that just seemed like some nutty Tarantino/Rodriguez double feature. You know, if they want to make grindhouse, you have to give those guys $300,000.00 a piece, and say go for it.

Dread Central: It was sort of missing that raw, outsider art point of view.

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, it’s hard for films like that to get a multiplex distribution. At best they’re going to show up at these little art theaters, and thankfully there are still some across the country. I mean, I don’t know what’s going to happen with Gator Green so we’ll keep the budget low, and at worst, we’re looking at Blu-ray and video on demand. I mean, the market is changing for sure. It’s just constantly been in flux since I started. I was making Deadbeat at Dawn for drive-ins, and when I was finished, drive-ins were gone. That was pitiful.

Dread Central: As an independent filmmaker, who do you make it for? Is it not the cineplexes, the iPhones, the iPads? There’s a lot of noise out there, so much great stuff, but it’s hard to find the independent voice sometimes. Even the big budget films disappear into the noise--they’re gone in two weeks. It’s not about longevity anymore.

    Jim VanBebber: Yeah, that’s true.

Dread Central: How do you stay heard, Mr. Jim VanBebber?

Jim VanBebber: You don’t worry about it. It’s just that when something is finished, if you have a reason to be heard in the theatrical run, that’s great, and the Gator Green short will turn people on to what I’m doing, and it’s not like I want to be heard again until I have a finished print of Gator Green.

Dread Central: When do you think we’ll be expecting to see it?

Jim VanBebber: Well, I would sure like to see that whole process happen in a year and a half or so.

Dread Central: Do you still shoot on film because you’re an old-school guy?

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, absolutely. We shot Gator Green on Fuji stock, 16mm.

    Dread Central: 16? Nice.

Jim VanBebber: Yeah, Fuji has great greens and blues, really good for shooting in Florida. It just made sense because of the landscape.

Dread Central: Other than Gator Green, do you have other scripts written or other movies in mind?

Jim VanBebber: Oh, sure, I’m sitting on a ton of scripts--massive youthful Al Capone flick, this robbery flick, this crazy car chase, I’ve got a bunch.

Dread Central: Excellent. We look forward to seeing The Manson Family in theaters.

    Synopsis:
The Manson Family delivers an uncompromising, brutal vision of the collapse of the “Love Generation.” On a ranch outside of LA the hippie dream is perverting into something evil. What was once an oasis of free love and acid trips has become ground zero for a madman’s paranoid visions. An average group of kids, the "Family," become engulfed in a delusional world where torment and slaughter are considered the path to righteousness. The Manson Family is a dizzying, rapid-fire vision of the sex and violence that unifies the misguided group and, at the direction of their leader, ends in a brutal spree leaving seven people dead in 48 hours.

Escape From New York - Tom Hardy and Jason Statham Duking it Out to Play SnakeLike it or not, a remake of Escape from New York is very much headed our way so rather than bitch and complain, let's start talking turkey... or should we say Snake? Hollywood has two actors vying for the part. Read on for details.

According to the Daily News both Tom Hardy and Jason Statham are in contention to play the one-eyed badass Snake Plissken made famous by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's 1981 film Escape from New York.

Jason is the type of actor who has the physical attributes and screen presence to reprise Snake,” said a Hollywood insider close to the film’s producers. “He has a proven track record as a leading man and would do a great job.”

But, said insider adds, “Tom was immense in The Dark Knight Rises and deserves to get a break in a top role. This could put him firmly [on] the A list.

Honestly, of the two we're partial to Hardy. What say you guys?

Escape From New York - Tom Hardy and Jason Statham Duking it Out to Play Snake

Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures has joined forces with Studio Canal to build a new franchise with a retelling of Escape From New York.

In the Carpenter film, Russell starred as Snake Plissken, a tough convict dropped into a futuristic New York that had been turned into a post-apocalyptic maximum security prison. He was charged with rescuing the President (Donald Pleasence), who was being held hostage by the prison kingpin (Isaac Hayes) after his plane crashed within the city walls. Snake’s offered a pardon if he’s successful but fitted with a lethal device that will kill him if he tries to run or misses the deadline.

Silver is planning an entirely new take on the material. The goal is to turn it into a trilogy, starting with an origin story in a fashion similar to the way Rise of the Planet of the Apes restarted that franchise.

Keep your one eye peeled for more.

I Come in Peace Will Go in Pieces on Blu-ray via Shout Factory

I Come in Peace Will Go in Pieces on Blu-ray via Shout FactoryI make no apologies for my love of the 1990 sci-fi action flick I Come in Peace AKA Dark Angel AKA Dolph Lundgen vs. a drug dealer from outer space armed with killer CDs. Now Shout Factory is again proving its greatness by giving it the Blu-ray treatment.

I Come in Peace AKA Dark Angel stars Dolph Lundgren as a Houston cop who always keeps his word. Brian Benben is a smarmy FBI agent assigned to work with Lundgren when his partner is murdered by yuppie drug dealers, who are themselves slaughtered by an extraterrestrial drug dealer (Matthias Hues) looking to harvest human endorphins – the drug of choice for those living in a galaxy far, far away. And let’s not forget that the alien’s space age superweapon is to shoots razor-sharp CDs from his wrist that are like heat-seeking missiles attracted to the human magnetic field, preferably within the vicinity of the jugular vein.

Criminally underrated action director Craig R. Baxley is behind this b-movie bonanza that blends sci-fi, action, horror, mismatched buddy cop comedy, death by throat-slashing CDs, violent yuppie drug dealers played by character actors typically cast as high school principals in 1980’s sitcoms, and Dolph Lundgren spouting off one-liners like “Fuck you, spaceman!”. This was Lundgren’s own Predator and a fun one at that.

The Warner Archives’ on-demand service only just made the film available on DVD under its original alternate title Dark Angel for the first time a year or so ago. Looks like we I Come in Peace fans are going to have to double dip because Shout Factory has just announced plans to bring it to Blu-ray in what we can only hope will be one of their fully loaded releases.

No artwork, disc details, or even a release date has been announced yet, but according to Blu-ray.com, we do know it will be presented in its original 1.85.1 aspect ratio and will be a two-disc set containing both the Blu-ray and a regular DVD copy.

Now if only the fine folks at Shout Factory could give the same treatment to another personal favorite of mine that has gone overlooked for far too long, The Vindicator. If you can put direct-to-video Scanners sequels on your release slate, there’s no reason why this gem can’t also be resurrected for today’s audience.

Andy Mackenzie Joins Hidden in the Woods Remake

Andy Mackenzie Joins Hidden in the Woods RemakeDirector Patricio Valladares dropped us a line today with some quick casting news. The next actor to join the mayhem to play one of Uncle Costello's (William Forsythe) hitmen is Andy Mackenzie (Sushi Girl, "True Blood").

Award-winning actor Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens), under his Blanc/Biehn Productions shingle, has begun pre-production and casting for the company’s latest project, the remake of the controversial film Hidden in the Woods (En Las Afueras De La Ciudad).

William Forsythe (The Rock, “Boardwalk Empire”) will play Uncle Costello, and also part of the cast is MMA fighter Krxysztof Soszynski, who recently worked with Michael Biehn on the MMA film Tapped. Biehn will also star in the film.

“I have never seen such a violent film that didn’t feel gratuitous and exploitive,” commented Biehn. “Patricio Valledares did an incredible job to combat that with his original film, and we’re excited to announce that he is on board to direct the English remake.”

In addition to Biehn, Forsythe, Mackenzie, and Soszynski, the cast includes Jeannine Kaspar (Iron Man, “House of Lies,” “Nip/Tuck”), Electra Avelan (Grindhouse, Machete Kills) Mark Burnham (Quentin Dupieux's Wrong and Wrong Cops), Jennifer Blanc (The Victim, Wrong Cops), and Richard Gunn (“Granite Flats,” “Dark Angel”) along with Caitlin Keats (Broken English, Kill Bill Volume 2, Treachery), Matthew Alan (Red Tails, "Sons of Anarchy"), J. Michael Trautmann (Here Comes the Boom, "Shameless"), Evie Louise Thompson (The Call, Heebie Jeebies), Nick Bateman (from Jason Eiseners'Hobo With a Shotgun), Cody Hackman (Tapped), and Luke Massy (Thor). Shooting is set to begin in early June in Texas. Patricio Valledares will direct. Jennifer Blanc-Biehn will produce along with Loris Courci, Evelyn Belmar, Time Lock Films, and Valle Studio Films.

“We feel this story needs to be told,” commented producer Jennifer Blanc-Biehn. “It’s based on a true criminal case. Three out of every four women are abused throughout the world so we hope to be able to not only tell a story but also donate some of the proceeds to a few women’s charities to stop the violence.”

    Synopsis
Hidden in the Woods tells the story of two sisters who have been raised in isolation, subjected to the torment of their abusive, drug dealing father. When they finally decide to report him to the police, he kills the two officers and is put in jail. But things go from bad to worse when the girls must answer to their Uncle Costello, a psychotic drug kingpin, who shows up looking for his missing merchandise which is hidden in the woods.
