In Light of Newtown Shooting and Boston Bombings NBC Skipping Hannibal Episode 1.04 - Oeuf

In Light of Newtown Shooting and Boston Bombings NBC Skipping Hannibal Episode 1.04 - OeufWhen NBC sent out press materials for the next episode of "Hannibal" earlier this week, we were a little confused why Episode 1.04, "Oeuf," was skipped over for Episode 1.05, "Coquilles," but now it makes sense.

Per Variety, after several particularly violent months in America, including both the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, CT, and this week's bombings/shootings in Boston, MA, NBC decided to pull Episode 1.04, "Oeuf," of “Hannibal” from its lineup due to its disturbing content involving Molly Shannon’s character brainwashing kids, leading them to kill other children.

Instead, we'll be moving directly to Episode 1.05, "Coquilles," with NBC claiming there will be no continuity issues and noting that when episodes were sent to critics, "Oeuf," was missing from the press packet as well.

The decision came about after series creator Bryan Fuller phoned NBC and told the network, “Given the cultural climate right now in the U.S., I think we shouldn’t air the episode in its entirety.”

“I didn’t want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience,” Fuller told Variety. “Whenever you [write] a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, ‘This is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary.’ With this episode it wasn’t about the graphic imagery or violence. It was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode... It was my own sensitivity.” Fuller cited the Sandy Hook shooting in December and this week’s Boston Marathon bombings as the root of this sensitivity issue.

As a result of the shift, the season finale of “Hannibal,” originally slated for June 27th, will now air on June 20th.

Fans of “Hannibal” will still be able to see clips from Episode 1.04, however. NBC is making a package of clips from the yanked episode available on NBC.com next week. It focuses on character development and not the procedural element and will feature Fuller offering voiceover and discussing the series.

“This is also a great opportunity to provide another platform for the show that can draw audiences to social media and give them original content that’s not just a behind-the-scenes special, but a webisode featuring the primary cast, which is a rare thing to get on the net,” Fuller explained. But, mostly, Fuller said, “We want to be respectful of the social climate we’re in right now.”

NBC notes that the fourth episode will run overseas but not in the States so if you have any friends in other countries, they should be able to fill you in on what you missed.

"Hannibal" Episode 1.05 - "Coquilles" (airs 4/25/13)
Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and the BAU team track a serial killer whose bloody ritual includes cutting the victims' back flesh and stretching it to look like angel wings. Returning to the field weighs heavily on Will's psyche, and Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) tries to drive a wedge between Will and Jack (Laurence Fishburne).

Meanwhile, Jack Crawford's wife, Bella (Gina Torres), pulls away from him and begins seeing Hannibal as her therapist in an effort to come to terms with the fact she is dying. Beverly (Hettienne Park) tries to connect with Will on a more personal level. Also starring Caroline Dhavernas, Aaron Abrams, and Scott Thompson.

"Hannibal" airs Thursday nights at 10pm on NBC. For more info visit "Hannibal" on NBC.com, "like""Hannibal" on Facebook, and follow "Hannibal" on Twitter.

More on Dexter's Final Season; Could a Spinoff Be in the Works?

    0
    0

More on Dexter's Final Season; Could a Spinoff Be in the Works? Now that it's been confirmed that Season 8 will be the final season for "Dexter," a few more details of what's ahead have come out, including whether or not rumors of a potential spinoff series are true.

THR's The Live Feed spoke with Showtime entertainment president David Nevins, and we have the highlights here. Be sure to hit the link at the bottom of the page for the rest.

With regard to the decision to announce this would indeed be the show's last hurrah: I felt like the right timing was to announce it firmly just in advance of its last season. The show has such loyal, passionate, and intense fans, and I wanted to handle it the right way... it became clear as we talked in between last season and this season that they [the creators] had an end game. Once Deb crossed the line she did when she found out, it was leading to the end game.

Does Nevins have any input as to how the show ends? The creative is being fundamentally driven by [showrunner] Scott Buck and John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, and Michael C. Hall. They've been the bedrock of this show and this character since the beginning... They have an amazing and fitting end in store.

Any hints as to how the consequences of Dexter's actions will play out? The consequences are already starting to hit him. It's jeopardized his most important relationship on Earth, which is with his sister; his other relationships on the show will be touched this year, and he's still changing... We saw a big change last year in that it wasn't so driven by one big antagonist... "Dexter" changed its formula last year and will change again this year -- there's a lot of different things in play. Part of what you need to do in a finale is start bringing some of the different threads together: his sister, his son, his love life, his professional life, and his childhood trauma.

Now, what about this potential Deb-focused spinoff we've heard about? [A]ll options are on the table as to where it could go after this. There's nothing actively happening, but you never know what the future holds. We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won't rule it out, but I'm not actively planning anything.

"Dexter" Season 8, starring Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter with guest stars that include Yvonne Strahovski, Bethany Joy Lenz, Rhys Coiro, Charlotte Rampling, Nick Gomez, and Sean Patrick Flanery, premieres on June 30th.

For more in the meantime be sure to visit the official "Dexter" page on Showtime, "like""Dexter" on Facebook, and follow "Dexter" on Twitter.

The Crow Remake Heats Up with Tom Hiddleston in Talks to Portray Eric Draven

The Crow Remake Heats Up with Tom Hiddleston in Talks to Portray Eric DravenRelativity Media has been circling around various actors over the past several months to portray the lead role in F. Javier Gutierrez's remake of The Crow, and it looks like they've finally landed on one who's ready to move forward.

Tom Hiddleston (Loki from The Avengers and Thor franchises) is in early discussions to play Eric Draven in the story based on the James O'Barr comic book series that was previously adapted as a 1994 Miramax movie starring Brandon Lee. In case you're one of the ten people on the planet who haven't seen the original, it follows a man who returns from beyond the grave to avenge his death.

Ed Pressman of Pressman Film and Kevin Misher of Misher Films are producing with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most. Dan Farah of Farah Films will executive produce with Relativity's Tucker Tooley.

According to The Wrap, Hiddleston recently had dinner with the producers and sent them a makeup test that he did on his own in London. He'll undergo a proper makeup test in the coming days, and production is tentatively scheduled to begin this fall, though of course that could change depending on how quickly everything else comes together.

Have to say I'm not hating the choice - it definitely could work. Look for more soon.

Good Morning Godzilla - Casting News! Revolutionary Sound Mix! Nuclear Panic!

    0
    0

Good Morning Godzilla - Casting News! Revolutionary Sound Mix! Nuclear Panic! In our never-ending quest to bring you every single bit of news possible regarding the now filming Legendary Pictures take on Godzilla, we have come up with three tidbits of news for you! Read on for details.

First up, we've gotten word that fresh-faced actress Yuki Morita (pictured) has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. She will be filming in Vancouver and Hawaii, which we can only speculate will be doubling for Japan. Interesting!

From there Screen Daily has dropped some news that the sound mix for the film is going to be state of the art! Dolby Atmos is designed to transmit up to 128 simultaneous and lossless audio channels and renders from 5.1 up to 64 discrete speaker feeds. That means the destruction and monstrous roars are going to be the likes of which we've never heard before.

And finally, remember those images and videos of nuclear weapons strapped to trains that we covered earlier? Apparently they've caused quite a stir in Canada for those not in the Godzilla know. According to the Nanaimo Daily News, citizens were concerned by the realistic locked and loaded look of the prop missiles. So much so that Canadian Forces spokesman Kevin Carle had to go on record stating the Canadian military doesn't have nuclear weapons. Yep. Ludicrous but true. Godzilla publicist Ernie Malik says the props were likely made in BC, as the entire film was expected to be shot in this province, and were used in one scene.

Stay tuned for more as we get it!

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard T. Jones, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Patrick Sabongui, Brian Markinson, Juliette Binoche, Akira Takarada, Victor Rasuk, and Ken Watanabe star.

Gareth Edwards is directing the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are serving as executive producers alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, Godzilla will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. Legendary Pictures is a division of Legendary Entertainment.

Slated to open on May 16, 2014, the film is expected to be presented in 3D.

Hate Crime Lands Distro But You Can Watch it on VOD NOW!It's been awhile since we've gotten an update on the home invasion thriller Hate Crime, but we've learned the flick has landed distribution with Unearthed Films and in the meantime is available worldwide on VOD.

From the (Very Enthusiastic) Press Release:
HATE CRIME is now available WORLDWIDE on VOD exclusively on psykikjunkypictures.com . And when we say WORLDWIDE, we mean WORLDWIDE! That's right - ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE EVERYWHERE can watch the film now! Many have been patiently waiting to see the film Hate Crime for months now. Well, the wait is OFFICIALLY OVER!!!! IT IS AVAILBLE NOW ON VOD for $6.66, but you better hurry because it will only be available for one month before it gets taken down off of VOD for its DVD/BLU-RAY release in AUGUST through UNEARTHED! TIME TO UNLEASH THE BEAST!

The second feature film by 21-year-old James Cullen Bressack, Hate Crime is a labor of love from a dedicated group of people looking to make something different. It is a violent, realistic portrayal of one of our worst nightmares: being attacked in our home. The movie has been extremely well received but has also fought a lot of controversy due to its extreme content, almost being banned in the UK, being pulled off the screen at festivals due to content and theatre management being unwilling to show the movie, and facing some trouble finding distribution due to the current anti-violence climate in the country. Luckily, Unearthed came to its rescue, and now everyone WORLDWIDE can see what the fuss is about.

Hate Crime was written and produced by Bressack and Jarret Cohen and stars Jody Barton, Tim Moran, Ian Roberts, Nick Clark, Maggie Wagner, Greg Depetro, Debbie Diesel, and Sloane Morgan Siegel. For more info visit the Hate Crime Facebook page.

    Synopsis:
A Jewish family, just arrived in a new neighborhood, are recording their youngest son's birthday celebrations on video when their home is suddenly invaded by a bunch of crystal meth-crazed neo-Nazi lunatics...

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in HorrorIt only happens once a year officially, but any devoted pothead will tell you that 420 happens at least once a day. For the uninitiated, 420 is a term used primarily in North America that refers to the consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture.

Man, that sounded kinda smart, no? Anyway, observances based on the number 420 include smoking pot around the time 4:20 p.m. (and/or 4:20 a.m.) as well as on today's date, April 20th (4/20). In celebration of the wacky stoners who have died (or sometimes lived) in some of our favorite horror flicks, we present to you our Top 5. There would have been 10, but our short-term memory sucks lately.

Please note we're not gonna go with the obvious choices from movies like Evil Bong, Idle Hands, or the first two Scary Movie flicks and their ilk. After all, those flicks are more comedy than horror so here is our cream of the cannabis toking crop! Enjoy!

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

Shaun of the Dead (2004) - Ed, played by Nick Frost

One of the many reasons why Shaun of the Dead works so well is the fact that not only is it the perfect combination of horror and comedy, but the film's characters are so very easy to relate to. I mean, who doesn't know someone like Ed, played with gleeful gusto by Nick Frost? He's a living, breathing, and inhaling representation of every cool neighbor with a Peter Pan complex we've ever hung out with!

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D (1982) - Chuck and Chili, played by David Katims and Rachel Howard

I'll never forget sitting in the theatre way back when and seeing joints being passed around in 3D. The whole audience kept reaching for them. Me? I was only 10 years old, but damn it, fun was in the air (along with the smell of a couple of other things), and even at such a tender age I couldn't help but... well.... get a contact high. Let's just say that I ate a copious amount of popcorn that night, and out of all of Jason Voorhees' many victims, Chuck and Chili, played by David Katims and Rachel Howard, will always be amongst our favorites.

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

The Cabin in the Woods (2011) - Marty, played by Fran Kranz

Here's the thing... when you have a character who can make his coffee cup transform into a bong that can be used as a weapon to beat down the living dead, you have immediately won our hearts. Marty, played by Fran Kranz, defies the odds and ends up being the hero of The Cabin in the Woods, thereby proving once and for all that just because you're high doesn't mean you cannot kick ass. It just takes a little longer, you know? Especially when the munchies kick in. Way distracting!

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

Poltergeist (1982) - Steve and Diane Freeling, played by Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams

Know matter how you slice it... when you're dealing with corpses popping out of your backyard, your son getting eaten by a tree, and your daughter getting sucked into the television set, the only way you can possibly cope with such horrific events is by rolling a fatty and getting high as a kite. Yeah, they only got high in one scene of the movie, but you know with all that shit going on, they were puffing like chimneys both before and after... before and after... before and after... before and after....

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

The Thing (1982) - Palmer, played by David Clennon

Now this dude was serious about his weed. He wasn't just rolling joints... he was knocking around the kind of bats that Cheech and Chong themselves would have been quite proud of. I mean, just think about it, man... here's a movie that's all about paranoia. How could it not feature one of the most memorable stoners to grace the silver screen? Plus? He was a pilot! While his comrades were very hesitant about letting him use the chopper, here was a dude we'd fly high with any time. Besides, you know he and Nauls had the good shit!

Happy 420 - Our Top 5 Favorite Stoners in Horror

    Honorable Emissions

  • Leprechaun for keeping it gangsta in the Hood.
  • Vernon in Hatchet II for puffing bowls and bringing along chicken and biscuits and biscuits and gravy before hunting power tool-wielding swamp ghosts.
  • Jason Mewes for his kick-ass role in Freddy vs. Jason... wait... what?
  • Floyd for existing in True Romance. Yeah, not a horror movie, but who cares? Not like he'd remember anyways.
  • The entire crew of the Elizabeth Dane. Yeah... Fog my ass.
  • And finally here's to Jordy Verrill for rocking the sticky green like no other in Creepshow.

  • Hatchet III Exclusive: Never Before Seen Images of Kane Hodder Becoming Victor Crowley; Adam Green Speaks! Boston Fundraiser in the Works!

Hatchet III Exclusive: Never Before Seen Images of Kane Hodder Becoming Victor Crowley; Adam Green Speaks! Boston Fundraiser in the Works!Okay, Hatchet Army! This one's for you! On tap now are some never before seen exclusive images of the legendary Kane Hodder becoming Victor Crowley and much more!

Uncle Creepy: What can you tell us about these photos?

Adam Green: One of the things we're most excited about with HATCHET III is the Victor Crowley make-up job that Robert Pendergraft and his crew at Aunt Dolly's Garage did on Kane Hodder this time around. Though the actual Crowley sculpture design is the same design that Greg Smith did for HATCHET II, this time out everything was made entirely from silicone as opposed to foam latex like the first two films. This gave Kane even more mobility and expression capability than he has ever had when performing as the character. While it was no easy feat to don the 50 pounds of silicone and carry out rigorous stunts in the sweltering Louisiana summer heat, Kane felt more comfortable in this make-up job than any he had ever performed in before, and it shows through in spades.

These exclusive behind the scenes photos were taken by our friend Dustin Pearlman, who worked on the first HATCHET film as our 2nd Assistant Camera. As anyone who has watched the extensive special features for the first two films knows, HATCHET is truly one big family, and the fact that both cast and crew from the earlier films always come by to help out just makes each production that much more special. From Dave Foy ("Chad" in HATCHET II) coming by the Los Angeles portion of the shoot just to help PA for fun to the fact that we promoted from within and gave BJ McDonnell ("A camera operator" on HATCHET and HATCHET II) his first shot at directing, we've managed to keep the same sense of camaraderie and fun that we started with when it was just Will, Sarah, Cory, and I trying to get the first movie off the ground in 2004/2005. [Will Barratt has served as the Director of Photography on all three HATCHET films, FROZEN, SPIRAL, and both seasons of "HOLLISTON" so far. Sarah Elbert has produced all three HATCHET films and both seasons of "HOLLISTON" so far. Cory Neal has produced all three HATCHET films, GRACE, FROZEN, SPIRAL, and both seasons of "HOLLISTON" so far.]

Speaking of HATCHET III, I'm extremely proud to say that we are working on a HATCHET fundraiser for the victims of last Monday's Boston bombing tragedy along with our friends at Worcester's Rock and Shock Horror/Music Convention. Details are still being ironed out, but we're finalizing a Boston area marathon screening of all three HATCHET films with all proceeds going to help the victims in my hometown of Boston, MA. I'll be showing my own private 35mm UK print of HATCHET 1, which is the un-cut version, only screened in a US theater one other time before. [HATCHET 1 was severely edited for its initial theatrical release after the MPAA slapped it with an NC-17 in 2007.] Then it is the un-rated and uncut HATCHET II and the first ever chance for anyone to see HATCHET III (uncut and unrated, of course). There will be many more details to announce about this event very soon, and I'm touched by how quickly Gina Migliozzi from Rock and Shock jumped into action to help me put this together. My heart aches for my friends and neighbors back home dealing with this tragedy, and I want to do whatever I can to help out - however big or small. The Boston Marathon's starting line has been hosted in Hopkington, MA, since 1925, and that's just one town over from where I grew up in Holliston, MA.

HATCHET III is set to open in New York City's Cinema Village and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall on June 14th. Opening week will feature special appearances by cast and crew, followed by Q&A's at each location. Additional cities will be announced at a later date.

    Synopsis:
Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder return in HATCHET III and are joined by Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) and others.

HATCHET III continues the tale of the now-iconic villain Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). As a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and carnage left behind from the first two films, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.

The sequel, which was filmed outside of New Orleans, Louisiana from late May to mid- June, 2012, is a co-production of MPI/Dark Sky Films and Green's Los Angeles-based ArieScope Pictures.
