A quick update has come in concerning Pascal Laugier's latest flick, The Tall Man... The film has been completed and will premiere at the Berlin Film Market later this year.

Jessica Biel, Stephen McHattie, William B. Davis, Samantha Ferris, Jodelle Ferland, and Jakob Davies star.

Look for more on this one soon!

Synopsis:
Cold Rock, USA - A darkness hovers upon the town. Children have gone missing over the years, leaving neither a clue nor a witness. Superstitious locals talk of The Tall Man, a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away, never to be seen again.

Julia (Jessica Biel) is a nurse living in Cold Rock who doesn't believe in legends. Until one night, waking up with an eerie feeling, she goes to her son's bedroom and finds his bed empty. Rushing downstairs, she stops dead in her tracks: A huge dark figure stands in the entrance holding her son, David. Driven by pure instinct, Julia rushes after them, willing to do whatever it takes to get her son back. The chase is on and with it the quest for answers. Who is The Tall Man? What becomes of the children?

Conceived as a "woman in jeopardy" movie - an outdoor Panic Room, The Tall Man is a suspenseful thriller in the vein of M. Night Shyamalan's earlier films. Clothed in the myth of the boogeymen and monsters born of the folklore common to all cultures, it's a story of the haunting secrets that hide behind closed doors.

New Clip from Beneath the Darkness Heads into the Attic

0
0

A new clip from Beneath the Darkness (review here) has made its way online, and we've dusted off the dirt and shoveled it over to you right here.

From the Press Release
The rural bliss of small town life has been celebrated as part of the American dream, but sometimes a small town is the perfect place to hide one’s secrets, one’s mistakes, one’s sins. And once discovered, it doesn’t take long for the American dream to become the American nightmare. On February 28th Image Entertainment unleashes the small town shocker Beneath the Darkness on Blu-ray™ and DVD. Starring Golden Globe™ nominee Dennis Quaid in a rare villainous turn and coming off a recent national theatrical release, this gripping psychological thriller entwines cold-blooded murder, sinister secrets, and modern hauntings on Maple Street. SRP is $27.97 for the DVD and $29.97 for the Blu-ray™.

Directed by Martin Guigui (My X-Girlfriend’s Wedding Reception, National Lampoon’s Cattle Call) and written by the late Bruce Wilkinson, Beneath the Darkness is a taut thriller pitting high school kids against a psychotic killer in a community where adults blindly refuse to see the ominous dangers right before their eyes. Along with Quaid, Tony Oller (Nickelodeon’s “Gigantic,” Disney’s “As the Bell Rings”) co-stars as Travis, and Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4, “Friday Night Lights”) co-stars as Abby.

In the film Quaid plays Ely, the well-respected mortician of rustic Smithville, Texas, where he was once a heralded high school football star. Among the kids, however, he is legendary for a more sinister reason -- rumors that his house is haunted. The truth is, this pillar of the community is actually a flesh-and-blood monster who buries his victims alive, a sociopath who befriends adults and police while openly flaunting his murderous intentions to the youths. Beware Ely’s charming smile – it may be the last thing you see, looking up from your freshly dug grave...

Bonus features on the Beneath the Darkness Blu-ray™ and DVD include a behind-the-scenes featurette and the original theatrical trailer.

It's been a really long time since last we heard anything about the gore-drenched world of Eddie the Sleepwalking Cannibal, but with patience comes delivery and we've got the festival trailer on tap for ya!

Click on the artwork below to see the goodies.

Directed by Boris Rodriguez, Eddie the Sleepwalking Cannibal stars Thure Lindhardt, Stephen McHattie (Ponypool), Georgia Reilly, and Dylan Scott Smith.

Look for more on this one soon!

Synopsis
The film follows Lars Olafssen (played by Lindhardt), a once young celebrity in the prestigious art world, who is now slipping away into the land of has-beens. His long-time art dealer, Ronny (McHattie), is now an ungracefully aging hipster who desperately wants his meal ticket back.

But Lars refuses to paint.

His creativity comes at too high a cost - his inspiration is carnage - blood, guts and limbs. Not surprisingly, this led to a dreadful breakdown in the past. Nevertheless, an eager Ronny arranges a teaching job for Lars with his old friend Harry (Goulem) at an art school in Koda Lake, a small Canadian town in the middle of nowhere. It's a "therapeutic" measure for Lars - a means to conquer his need to paint in the "safety" of a country retreat... and perhaps lead to romance with his fellow teacher, Leslie (Reilly). That is, until Eddie (Smith) comes into his life.

Set Visit Interview: Franchise Newcomer Li BingBing Talks Ada Wong in Resident Evil: Retribution

0
0

When it came time for Paul W.S. Anderson to cast fan favorite character Ada Wong, he went with Li BingBing, a huge star in Chinese cinema but generally an unknown face to American audiences- that is, until Resident Evil: Retribution hits theaters everywhere this September; and there's no doubt that BingBing will leave a lasting impression with her performance (and red dress) in the upcoming sequel.

During our recent set visit to Toronto, Dread Central chatted with BingBing with the assistance of an interpreter since the actress is still getting a grasp on her rapidly improving English language speaking skills (with only a few weeks under her belt, it was rather remarkable). During our interview, BingBing discussed her thoughts on coming on board Resident Evil: Retribution to play such a widely-revered character in the video game series as well as her thoughts on how the stunt work here compares to what she's experienced while working in China and whether or not fans will see Ada and Leon hook up during Retribution.

Set Visit Interview: Franchise Newcomer Li BingBing Talks Ada Wong in Resident Evil: Retribution

Q: How much of the character Ada Wong did you know before Paul hired you for the film?

Li BingBing: I didn't know Ada Wong very well.

Q: Did you know there was a big fanbase?

BingBing: Yes. I know 'Resident Evil' is a very famous game and that a lot of game fans follow 'Resident Evil'. I know Ada Wong is a very famous character in the game so there's a lot of fans of Ada Wong in China. So when I got this news from Paul, that they invited me to play Ada Wong, everyone has been so excited for me to play Ada.

Q: What did it feel like putting on that red dress for the first time?

BingBing: (Laughs) Um, you know what, the red dress looks like I should be walking at the red carpet but the different thing is that when I wear the gun holster, it looks like totally different. It's like cool and sexy and mysterious.

Q: Like the games, is there kind of a love connection between Ada and Leon in this movie?

BingBing: Uh, in this movie I think Paul still loved to keep the relationship, the emotion between Leon and me, very subtle between us.

Q: Do you like doing action movies?

BingBing: You know what, actually for me, I really love to do action movies. In this movie, we have a part when the first time I meet Milla, in a control room and I did a flip in the air with wires. It's fantastic. I was so excited with that. And when I shot a gun on the first time, the crew gave me gun training right before we started to shoot the movie and it was like so exciting and totally different.

Q: How did you get the role? Did you audition? Can you talk about how you got the part?

BingBing: I am not really sure how I got this role, but I did audition. After a very few days, they gave me the reply and they said, 'we loved you, we want to invite you to be Ada Wong'. So I was surprised by how fast I got my reply. So exciting!

Q: Can you talk about some of the zombies or the monsters that you have to fight in the film?

BingBing: I don't have to fight with the monsters this time. I only need to fight with Jill and Michelle.

Q: What was it like working with some of these cast members, just interacting with them and being in this English language movie?

BingBing: In this movie, I worked with Milla in all of my scenes so we're very close. She's treated me very, very nice and when we shoot outside in the cold, every time she'd make sure wardrobe gave me a warm jacket to put on first, and then she got hers. Really kind.

You know what? At the beginning, I felt too shy to open my mouth to speak in English and I just thought, 'If I don't open my mouth, I won't make any mistakes with anyone.' So I just kept silent, and just uses my eyes to...(Laughter). But you know, over time we have all been getting closer and everyone's kidding or playing together so as we get to know each other more and more, then I dare to open my mouth to speak more English. Nobody has laughed at my English; they've all said, 'oh, your English is amazing!' I know everyone is just encouraging me, but everyone treat me like I was in a very cozy family.

Q: Do you find your English has improved throughout the shoot then?

BingBing: Of course, absolutely.

Q: We've heard that there's going to be another movie after this one, another 'Resident Evil' movie. Has anyone spoken to you about that, and given you any indication whether you'll be back for the next movie?

BingBing: Paul said on the next Resident Evil he will ask Milla to speak Chinese. (Laughter) It's joke, because, you know, when I was on set, sometime I was stuck, and he just encouraged me and gave me more confidence But you mean do I know if I'll be back for Resident Evil 6?

Q: Yeah.

BingBing: Nobody knows that! Ask Paul. (Laughter)

Q: When you started acting back home in China, was it always your ambition to come to America to make films?

Interpreter: (Translating) Sometimes we don't have to think about what we're going to do next. I think a lot of things are given by fate. But there's a philosophy that I live by, if God gives you a big cake, he first has to torture you a little bit.

Q: Have you found the American fight scenes to be more difficult or easier than in China?

BingBing: Mmm...it's different. I...(Begins speaking in Chinese)

Interpreter: (Translating) There's a lot of techy things that are happening here that don't exist over there...for example, how they cut the shots. How they divide up...how the shots are taken, from what angle, etc...but in China they stress more of an ability to fight, rather than cutting and making it look like they can fight.

Written and directed by Paul Anderson, Re5ident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich, Boris Kodjoe, Li Bingbing, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Johann Urb, and Colin Salmon. Look for Re5ident Evil: Retribution in theatres on September 14, 2012 from Screen Gems.

Official Plot Details and Casting News Comes in for Latest Riddick Film

0
0

For months there's been speculation regarding casting news, etc., for the third film in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise tentatively known as Dead Man Stalking, but now all of the official info is finally here.

From the Press Release
The latest chapter of the saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako and introduces to the series previously announced cast member Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's "Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (TV's "Aliens in America") and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

The Riddick franchise has also produced two popular video games: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. As well, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released the anime DVD The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury.

The film will be released by Universal Pictures in the U.S., and Lionsgate is handling international sales.

Construction of zombie sets will begin next week and will involve 60 local carpenters. Scott Tigchelaar of Raleigh Studios Atlanta says people can expect to see the town a little dirtier than normal to fit the look of the show.

In addition, according to the IMDb, Marvin Duerkholz (The Devil Inside, "Teen Wolf") is set to appear in "The Walking Dead"'s Season 3 premiere episode as Phillip Eagle, a new character who does not appear in the comics.

Now, as for that Governor clarification, the rumor was that John Hawkes was under consideration to play Philip Blake, the psychotic zombie killer who declares himself the Governor of Woodbury. Sadly, Hawkes' publicist has stated that "John is NOT appearing on 'The Walking Dead'." Maybe the part will go to Tom Savini after all!
