Enter the House of BadA supernatural heist flick? Yeah, you can sign us up for that! On tap for you cats right now are two trailers and the official one-sheet for Jim Towns' indie effort House of Bad. From the looks of it, this is one house horror fans will be wanting to spend some serious time in!

Towns directs from a script he co-wrote with Scott Frazelle. House of Bad features Heather L. Tyler (Finding Focus, Nerve), Sadie Katz (Scorned, Nipples & Palm Trees), and Cheryl Sands (Lake Death, "Nip/Tuck") as three sisters who are caught in an ever-escalating series of terrifying encounters and dark scenarios. Lily fights her addiction as dreams of a dead woman wake her in the night, Teig struggles with terrorizing memories of an abusive father, and Sirah tries to hold the family together until one of her sisters is executed in the cellar. Crazed with withdrawals and unable to distinguish dreams from reality, this attempt at a new lease on life turns into a race for survival.

Synopsis
Yearning to break free from their sordid pasts, three sisters unite for a simple plan: steal enough drugs to set themselves up for a new life. But when the eldest sister, Teig, decides they're going to hide out in their old, abandoned family house, its painful memories quickly become too real to fight off. Three sisters with a history, a suitcase full of stolen drugs, and a family house with a dark secret is the recipe for terror in House of Bad. The film’s fusion of thriller and heist genres keeps the audience guessing every step of the way.

A Band Goes on a Tour in Hell with Rock & Roll F'n' LovelyHaving managed a band a decade or so ago, I can tell you one thing for sure... the road can be a strange friggin' place. Lord knows I've seen more than my fair share of weird things, but they were nothing compared to what's on display in Rock & Roll F'n' Lovely.

Josh Bagnall directs the flick, which stars Joel Fry, Anton Saunders, Lee Whitlock, Michael Starke, Mick Whitnall, John Jenkins, Eddie Jenkins, and Pete Doherty. Super curious? You can watch the movie right now via iTunes.

Synopsis
A dark and fantastical touring tale with a little rock and roll on the side, this touring crew drama focuses on a mythical festival tour that becomes a rock and roll legend. With stunning cinematography and shocking behind-closed-doors scenes, this is not a film for the faint-hearted. A unique take on the festival scene, the film captures the essence of the festival spirit unlike any other movie to date. A must see for anyone who’s been on the road, and if you’ve never been on tour before… after this, you never will.

Cannes 2013: Blanc/Biehn Productions Hitting the French Riviera with a Handful of Films

Jennifer Blanc to Bring Us The Night VisitorThe granddaddy of all film fests and markets, Cannes 2013, kicks off on the 15th, running to the 26th. Rising indie film maven Jennifer Blanc-Biehn is attending the event, and we'll be tracking her progress with the projects she's taking to the show as an actress, producer, and first-time director.

From the Press Release:
Jennifer Blanc-Biehn will be in attendance this year at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival from May 15-21 to support several upcoming projects: her eerie directorial debut, The Night Visitor, Wrong Cops (which just premiered at Sundance), horror/comedy Among Friends, and Treachery, starring her husband, Michael Biehn (it will be for sale in the Cannes Marché du Film by Fairway Films). She and Biehn, under their Blanc/Biehn Productions imprint, currently have seven films in production coming out this year or next.

One of those films officially launching at the fest is Hidden in the Woods, a dark controversial remake of the Spanish-language thriller. Blanc-Biehn and Biehn begin shooting the intense film, based on a true story, in July. The film’s producer, Loris Curci, and international distributor Dimitri Stephanides of WTF will also be in attendance at the launch, May 2013, with Jennifer Blanc-Biehn.

The actress will also be on hand prior to the screening of short film Sticks and Stones, a moving narrative about bullying in schools and the lasting effects on children, May 20th at the American Pavilion. Blanc-Biehn, who stars in the film, will be available before the screening along with writer Taylor Grant and director Kate Rees Davies and at the Short Film Corner - where guests can sit in cubicles and watch on-demand - to answer questions and support the film.

“We have some celebrating to do, too, so Cannes won’t be all work and no play,” says Blanc-Biehn, referring to Blanc/Biehn Productions’ recently completed three-picture deal with film executive/investor Lony Ruhmann, who will serve as executive producer and co-writer on the upcoming films The Girl, Night Maire, and Get Back Joe, now in development. “Lony was so moved by our films and collaborating with us on his story The Night Visitor that he pitched three stories right away and is funding this deal into next year. We couldn’t be more pleased. Michael loved what we were doing with The Night Visitor so much that he added it to the Blanc/Biehn roster, which sparked Lony to offer the four-picture deal and future collaborations."

Treachery is a lead title that is being presented at Cannes with Marty Poole of Fairway Films. Just added to the roster this week, it was written and directed by Travel Romero (co-creator and co-writer of "White Collar").

With so many projects to endorse at Cannes, Blanc-Biehn might feel overwhelmed, but instead she is exhilarated. “We have so many movies in the pipeline, and I’m equally excited about each one,” says Blanc-Biehn. ”Between the roles I choose and our projects at Blanc/Biehn, it’s important that I tell a compelling, emotional story. I’m excited to talk about these films and looking forward to seeing friends, doing a little business, and sharing our ideas at Cannes.”

Look for more on all of these projects - as well as up-to-the-minute news from the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film - right here! For more info in the meantime, visit the official Festival de Cannes website.

Evil Isn't Clowning Around on All Hallows' Eve

Evil Isn't Clowning Around on All Hallows' EveCoulrophobics needn't read this story. If you're not sure if you have Coulrophobia, well shit, look it up! You are on your computer after all. Do we have to do everything for you? Really, dude! Read on for the first details and a frightening still from Damien Leone's All Hallow's Eve.

From the Press Release
Jesse Baget’s RUTHLESS PICTURES has started production on All Hallows’ Eve, Damien Leone’s debut feature. All Hallows’ Eve features Leone’s menacing signature villain, Art the Clown, who populates his chilling short films Terrifier and The 9th Circle.

In true classic slasher fashion, in the vein of Halloween and When A Stranger Calls, Leone unleashes his twisted creation, Art the Clown, upon an unsuspecting babysitter. While watching two children on Halloween night, the babysitter finds an old VHS tape in the kids' trick or treat bag. The tape features three tales of terror, all linked together by a murderous clown. As the night goes on, strange things begin to occur in the house. It isn't long before the babysitter learns the horrifying truth... the maniacal clown is slowly working his way into her reality.

Writer/director Damien Leone, whom Dread Central calls “a horror director to keep your eyes on,” contends that this will not be your ordinary horror film, "As a huge fan of the genre, it's very important to me to deliver a film that will haunt fans long after they see it. With All Hallows’ Eve, we're trying to capture the spirit of the great horror films of the 70s and 80s while pushing the envelope even further."

Of first-time feature director Leone, producer Jesse Baget says, “When I first saw Damien’s work, I knew I was in front of an amazing talent. What made me want to work with Damien was his twisted horror vision and his ability to bring it to life with his incredible talent for both special effects and storytelling. Damien’s creatures are what nightmares are made of.” Baget adds, “ This kind of fresh new talent is exactly what the horror world needs.“

The film stars Catherine A. Callahan (“Third Rock,” “Are We There Yet?”), Marie Maser (Terrifier), and Katie Maguire.

Baget founded Ruthless Pictures in 2012 to bring to life tightly written and executed horror and thriller features. Ruthless Pictures is currently in production on two other films, Black Water Vampire starring Bill Oberst, Jr., and Mischief Night starring Ally Walker, Charlie O’Connell, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and Erica Leehrsen.

In 2005, David Cholewa created DC-MEDIAS, a worldwide sales company. The company established a broad and high quality catalog of films that tackled all genres: Drama, Horror, Action, Thriller and more. In 2012 David founded a new production company, focused on genre efforts called CRYOFILMS along with César Ducasse from Addict Films (Dark Souls). That same year David Cholewa produced and directed his first feature Dead Shadows. Dead Shadows was shot in only 3 weeks, the movie had more than 100 CGI shots and practical effects.

The Dark Zone Synopsis directed by David Chowlea
The crew of the colonial vessel “Dreamscape" is on a 10 year journey. Its mission is to establish the first human colony outside of our solar system. The ship carries within it a crew of one thousand men and women who are in cryogenic sleep while a team of 40 take shifts, at six month intervals, to operate the machinery of the colossal spacecraft. Alas, things go sour during a celebration banquet which marks the end of this particular crew's long shift. Some ingest a usually safe alien fruit which causes them to inexplicably fall ill. They exhibit extreme abdominal pains and vomit whole heartily. The frightening mishap forces the healthy to quarantine those who are showing signs of contamination. The sick are placed in cryogenic tubes within one room, while the able-bodied have their space sleep in another room. Two years later, the unaffected wake up to a living nightmare. Somehow the ship has been infected by a foreign organic matter while mysterious and dangerous entities now prowl its halls. Only the unity of the group will allow them to confront the evil that has since plagued the ship. That malevolent entity has many faces...

The Dark Zone

The Black Gate Synopsis directed by David Chowlea co-written with Richard Stanley (Hardware, Dust Devil, The Abandoned)
When best friends Gabe and John meet up at a local bar to discuss plans for Gabe's upcoming bachelor party, they never expected to get caught in a battle between good and evil. After running for their lives to escape the clutches of a psychotic vigilante cop named Largo, with a serious axe to grind, along with his furious henchmen, they seek refuge in a decrepit old community center where an unspeakable act has occurred. The brilliantly deranged mathematician and master of the kabbalah, Rabbi Sandoval, has perfected a formula to open a portal which will destroy creation itself. All the Rabbi needs is one more sacrifice to complete his evil scheme. Now, Gabe and John are forced to make common cause with Largo, and two of the building original inhabitants, an old blind man, Isaac, who is more than he seems, and his young nephew, Hiram, to fight their way up through the floors, each of which is protected by a supernatural guardian more terrifying than the last, and somehow prevent Sandavol from finishing the ritual and opening the seventh portal - The Black Gate. Will they be able to stop the ultimate doom and make it back to the world they know? Or has time really run out?

Pacific Rim Game Being Developed by Yuke's StudioYuke's has announced a collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers Entertainment to bring a Pacific Rim video game to the fans. Players will learn more about the game this summer when more details are finalized.

From the Press Release
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Up until now, “giant monsters fighting giant robots” was a theme largely explored only in anime, but this film marks the first large scale live action Hollywood production to tackle this genre. The film is being directed by Guillermo Del Toro, a connoisseur of Japanese anime and special effects who has received enthusiastic worldwide recognition for his previous work (“Pan’s Labyrinth”, “Hellboy” series). Footage of the film was revealed at Comic-Con International, which took place last year in San Diego, as well as the New York Comic Con, where attending fans voiced their awe over the intensity of the action sequences and the high quality of the character designs. Attention was also given to Rinko Kikuchi, who has engaged in film work around the world, particularly in Hollywood, and will be appearing in the film as a co-pilot of one of the giant fighting Jaegers, and Mana Ashida, who will be making her Hollywood debut in this film. This unprecedented, mega scale title, featuring meticulously detailed images and a story of epic proportions, will be completely unveiled in Summer 2013.

Script Review for The Crow Reboot a Letdown?

Script Review for The Crow Reboot a Letdown? When it comes to script reviews for upcoming films that haven't even begun filming yet, you have to take the info with a grain of salt as anything can and will change. Our friends over at Latino Review got their hands on the script for Javier Gutierrez's remake of The Crow, and their reaction isn't pretty.

Luke Evans has been tapped by Relativity Media to star as Eric Draven in the story based on the James O'Barr comic book series that was previously adapted as a 1994 Miramax movie starring Brandon Lee. In case you're one of the ten people on the planet who haven't seen the original, it follows a man who returns from beyond the grave to avenge his death.

Ed Pressman of Pressman Film and Kevin Misher of Misher Films are producing with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most. Dan Farah of Farah Films will executive produce with Relativity's Tucker Tooley.

Lowlights Per Latino Review

  • Eric Draven is now a Christian police officer instead of a musician
  • Quotes Bible verses from memory
  • Casts no reflection, paints his face to reflect, wears a tuxedo
  • Has ghost powers - can walk through walls and possess people to use their bodies
  • Has Wolverine-like powers - can heal, jump far and high, etc.

Jeff Katz and AIP Remaking Horror ClassicsViking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, The Undead, War of the Colossal Beast, and The Day the World Ended. These are a few of my favorite things, and they're now getting remade and more!

According to Deadline, Jeff Katz, Lou Arkoff, and Hal Sadoff plan to remake 10 titles in the Arkoff/Nicholson library of American International Pictures-produced 1950’s classics. Usually the mere idea of remakes sends shivers of woe down our spines, but given the talent involved and the love that I know they have for these projects, we couldn't be happier.

Getting the redux treatment are the following 1950's drive-in classics: Girls in Prison, Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, Runaway Daughters, The Undead, Cool & The Crazy, The Day the World Ended, and my personal favorite, The War of the Colossal Beast. Please.... please... PLEASE... keep the same make-up design for that one!

AIP was founded in 1954 by Samuel Z. Arkoff and James H. Nicholson and churned out 500 low-budget indies for teens that included the Beach Party series with Frankie Avalon and the late Annette Funicello as well as the early films of director Roger Corman. In 1979 AIP merged with Filmways, which later was folded into Orion Pictures. Currently the rest of the library is owned by MGM, Orion’s successor. Arkoff, son of Samuel, had previously produced remakes of AIP titles for Showtime’s "Rebel Highway" series in the 1990′s.

My filmmaking heroes growing up were men like Arkoff, Castle, Corman, and Shaye,” Katz explained. “This series of movies is really meant as a tip of the hat to that sort of attitude. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to create a brand new universe out of old school titles, and I feel incredibly fortunate and honored to get to play in the AIP sandbox.

Exclusive Event Report: Dread Central Hosts a Private Screening of MoniKa

Exclusive Event Report: Dread Central Hosts a Private Screening of MoniKaHeld Thursday, May 2nd, in Hollywood, CA, the Dread Central co-sponsored private industry screening of Steven R. Monroe’s Monika was a resounding success. Read on for photos from the carpet and a few comments from star and co-executive producer Cerina Vincent.

In attendance at the event held at The Lot/Audio Head (in addition to the free-flowing wine from Sarzotti Vineyard) were Vincent (Cabin Fever) and writer/director/producer Monroe as well as MoniKa co-stars Jason Wiles ("Third Watch") and Daytime Emmy nominee and winner Jeff Branson ("Guiding Light,"I Spit on Your Grave) and the film's executive producer Aaron Hofmann. Other industry appearances included Shaun Menzie (The Victorville Massacre), Bill Millsap (Jurassic Block), Barbara Nedeljakova (Hostel, Isle of Dogs), Carlee Baker (The Woman), Ryan Dillon (Littlerock) and producer Clinton H. Wallace (Blue Dream).

Prior to the screening and subsequent enthusiastic response to the stylized revenge/thriller (which is slated for a fall 2013 release and also stars Andrew Howard, Elisa Donovan, C. Thomas Howell, Chad Linberg and Lew Temple), we chatted with Vincent on the carpet regarding her experience with MoniKa.

“She's a pretty bad-ass character and very different than anything I've played before, so that was a blast and a challenge at the same time,” Vincent stated of the titular blonde, gun-toting character which she portrays. “MoniKa’s a tough chick,” she continued, “and she keeps her emotions inside. She’s stoic and laser-focused on her mission: to get revenge on the bad guys. She's passionate, too, but not in an emotional way. She's controlled, calculated, and although she's on a mission for revenge, she's at peace with her reality. This is so opposite than who I am as a person. I’m a huge romantic. I'm incredibly sensitive and emotional. I want to cry at everything. Not in a crazy way, but in an ‘everything tugs on my heartstrings’ kind of way.”

“So it was a challenge to maintain that stoic sensibility,” Vincent mused. “There were moments where I felt MoniKa would be rather emotional, but Steven would cut and remind me that MoniKa doesn't cry. Cerina cries. Monika is a bad-ass. So it was a challenge, but I really enjoyed it and am so grateful for the role.”

Of her decidedly different look in the film, “Audiences can expect to not recognize me,” she stated with a laugh. “I’m platinum blonde in it! And it's not a wig! It was sixteen hours of straight bleach. It was pretty crazy. And yes! There is lots of gun-play in the film, and it was so much fun. Steven made me go through some serious gun training for months before the shoot so that I was comfortable, and I got more than comfortable. I ended up really growing to love shooting. Like my character, I grew up in the desert in Nevada. Not to get political, but we're a huge Democratic family, but my dad does have a ton of guns, and I think he's finally happy that I love to shoot [them]. I didn't dig it as much as a little girl, but after playing the role of Monika, I can honestly say I really enjoy it.”

While Vincent has worked three times with Monroe previously as an actress (in 2005’s It Waits, 2006’s Sasquatch Mountain, and 2008's Complacent), MoniKa was her first foray as a co-executive producer.

”It was very interesting,” she reflected of that experience. “The tough part is the huge sense of responsibility you have to make sure that the film a success. You want your investors happy, the cast to be happy, and the fans to be happy. I may not sleep soundly until I know all three of those things have been accomplished! The beauty of being a producer on this, though, was seeing the art come to life. Steven sent me this script about eight years ago, and being a part of taking it from just words on a page to being on set with one hundred people having good, fun work was a great feeling. I’m grateful for the experience, and I want to do more, learn more, and create more.”

As for distribution plans, “All of the details are getting finalized now, but audiences can expect to get it this fall!” stated Vincent. “I’m excited for the world to see it. It's a really fun movie. Great characters. Kind of a mind-trip. It’s stylized and cool, and all of the actors are phenomenal in it! Fans will recognize some of their genre favorites. Jason Wiles rocks it as the lead; Jeff Branson, who was just nominated for an Emmy, is intense and totally killed it. Andrew Howard, C. Thomas Howell, and Lew Temple all bring some comedy with their quirky characters. Everyone is so great. And one of my best friends (who plays my best friend), Elisa Donovan, who is famous for her comedy, is stellar, edgy, and sexy as hell. And Monroe's writing and directing is just fabulous. It's a fun film. It's eerie, sexy, funny, bloody, action-packed, and keeps you guessing. I think fans are really gonna dig it."

Regarding what’s next for the actress in the horror genre, “I’ve got a few things cooking that I'm really excited about,” Vincent told us. “I've been working with a group of dear friends and great filmmakers, and we are writing, producing, and shooting short films. We have one horror picture that will be out this Halloween and most likely be at some fun genre film festivals. It's called Skypemare. I star in it along with two of my dear friends, Ryan Dillon and Annika Marks, and it’s directed by another dear friend, the very talented John Fitzpatrick. We have a great team in place, and we are all genuine friends. I'm actually writing a horror/thriller feature for us to shoot this summer. Fingers crossed that all goes as planned. There will be more on Skypemare soon. I think fans are going to love it!”

Dread Central thanks Hell’s Belles filmmaker Christian Ackerman for shooting the event (with additional photo credit going to Clinton H. Wallace/Photomundo International).

    Synopsis
The film is a violent, edgy ride focusing on the forlorn Reagan Tyler, a man who is troubled by visions and premonitions that ultimately lead him to Las Vegas. It's there that Reagan meets the beautiful and mysterious Monika, a young woman who turns out to have been killed the night before he even met her. Reagan is then forced to put the puzzle together of what happened, how she is still present, and help Monika with her revenge on the killers of her younger sister.
