Michael Biehn Dishes on the Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon SequelWe had the chance to sit down with the great Michael Biehn recently to talk about all things badass, and of course the subject of Ubisoft's latest game which he does the voice acting for, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, came up. What's does Biehn know about a possible sequel? Read on!

Below is a quick excerpt! Look for the whole interview tomorrow!

Regarding a possible sequel Biehn said, "I don't know anything. If they do a sequel, that is [Creative Director] Dean [Evans]' decision. For all I know it might not have anything to do with me, and he might make a completely different game. I had thought I heard someone say something about a sequel, but I really don't know anything about it, which means if there was one, then I don't know if I would be involved. I don't know anything about what the subject matter would be or what it would be like. He never discussed with me about a sequel. I just kind of overheard someone talking about it actually, and it was probably a conversation I shouldn't have heard."

Biehn continues, "So I don't know if there is going to be a sequel or not. A couple of game sites have come out and said there is going to be a sequel, and I am quoted as saying there is going to be a sequel. I probably shouldn't have said that from just overhearing what someone else was talking about while we were doing the voice-over work. I could be totally wrong about that."

From the Press Release
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Up until now, “giant monsters fighting giant robots” was a theme largely explored only in anime, but this film marks the first large scale live action Hollywood production to tackle this genre. The film is being directed by Guillermo Del Toro, a connoisseur of Japanese anime and special effects who has received enthusiastic worldwide recognition for his previous work (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series). Footage of the film was revealed at Comic-Con International, which took place last year in San Diego, as well as the New York Comic Con, where attending fans voiced their awe over the intensity of the action sequences and the high quality of the character designs. Attention was also given to Rinko Kikuchi, who has engaged in film work around the world, particularly in Hollywood, and will be appearing in the film as a co-pilot of one of the giant fighting Jaegers, and Mana Ashida, who will be making her Hollywood debut in this film. This unprecedented, mega scale title, featuring meticulously detailed images and a story of epic proportions, will be completely unveiled in summer 2013.

7 Faces of Jack the Ripper - More New Images and the Official ArtworkAlrighty, kids! Yesterday we brought you some early info on the upcoming slash-happy terror tale 7 Faces of Jack the Ripper, and right now we have more stills, which include your first look at Patrick Kilpatrick, as well as the artwork. Dig it!

From the Press Release
125 Years ago the world's most notorious serial killer terrorized the streets of London, earning the name ‘Jack the Ripper’.

The horrific slayings and infamous unsolved case are being brought to life in a new adaptation, 7 Faces of Jack the Ripper, featuring Timothy Woodward, Jr., Jeremy London, Said Faraj, Antwon Tanner, Patrick Kilpatrick, Jerry G. Angelo, and Mindy Robinson.

This modern adaptation takes place in the streets of Los Angeles, where a copycat killer is not only inspired by a true story but also based in part on the actual psychiatric case files of a leading Jack the Ripper suspect which were recently made public by the mental institution where he was detained for years.

With the overwhelmingly positive response to recently released horror/thriller feature Finders Keepers: The Root of All Evil, and with the buzz surrounding the highly anticipated psychological thriller Blackout starring Timothy Woodward, Jr., and ‘Hollywood King of Horror’ Bill Oberst, Jr., Woodward has decided to continue his exploration of the horror genre with a grisly modern-day rendition of infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper.

The film, which Woodward both acts in and directs, has tentatively been titled 7 Faces of Jack the Ripper and has garnered a shockingly impressive cast. In addition to Woodward, the all-star cast includes Jeremy London (Mallrats, "Party of Five"), Antwon Tanner ("One Tree Hill", Coach Carter), Said Faraj (The Green Zone), Patrick Kilpatrick (Minority Report), Matt Cinquanta (The Joker Returns), Mindy Robinson (Casting Couch), and Jerry G. Angelo (Spared).

The film, produced by Sky Studios International and Fireborn Studios, is aiming for a October 2013 release. It follows a homicide task force (Woodward, London, Kilpatrick, Faraj) as they hunt down an elusive serial killer with a flair for the dramatics and an obsession with the 125-year-old unsolved Jack the Ripper murders.

Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins Hunting a Chinese Dragon? This Trailer Is Going to Be Legendary! It was almost a year ago when we first heard that Dolph Lundgren and his Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning co-star Scott Adkins were heading to China for a new 3D creature feature that would see them hunting a ferocious dragon.

Now we have our first look at Legendary, formerly Tomb of the Dragon.

Synopsis:
Travis and his team travel to China in search of what isn’t supposed to exist... their mission is to capture a cryptid that is wreaking havoc in a remote village where a water pipeline is being built. They need to do this before Harker, the legendary bounty hunter, finds and kills it — and before anyone else falls victim to its rage.

Midsummer Films and China Film Group are behind this filmed-in-Beijing production from director Eric Styles, whose previous directorial effort was a 2008 Heather Graham romantic comedy Miss Conception, and screenwriter Andy Briggs, the author of the recent Syfy Original premiere The Philadelphia Experiment.

A teaser trailer has arrived and… well… hopefully China has its own version of Syfy because this looks like something that should be premiering on it!

Exclusive: Michael Biehn Talks Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, The Possibility of a Sequel, and Which of His Characters Would Win in a Fight

Exclusive: Michael Biehn Talks Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, The Possibility of a Sequel, and Which of His Characters Would Win In A FightFar Cry 3: Blood Dragon is now available on Xbox Live, PSN and PC. It is a game where you get the girl, kill the bad guys and save the world in a VHS-version of the future.

We recently chatted with Michael Biehn (who voices Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt) about how he got involved and his thoughts on the game. Biehn also stated that a sequel has “not been confirmed” as reported by other video game websites. Read on to learn more!

AMANDA DYAR: First off, can you tell us how you got involved with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon?

MICHAEL BIEHN:Actually, I met [Creative Director] Dean [Evans] when we were in Canada doing some work on a film festival for “The Victim.” Jennifer [Biehn's wife, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn] actually met Dean and Dean talked to her. Jennifer kind of had to drag me by my collar to meet him because I didn't really know anything about gaming, doing voices for gaming and that kind of stuff. She got me to meet him, which turned out to be a really great thing because he is a really brilliant guy. So that is how I met him--I happened to be up in Montreal, and Jennifer dragged me to a meeting with him, and the moment I met him I knew there was something special about this guy and that I should be involved with him.

AMANDA: You've played the action hero role before with memorable characters Kyle Reese in The Terminator and Corporal Dwayne Hicks in Aliens, so how did it feel to assume this type of role again for Aliens: Colonial Marines and most recently in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Also, were there any dramatic differences for you as an actor in portraying these two video game characters?

MICHAEL:Oh, yes there are. There is a big difference. There is no storyline in any of the video games per se. There may be a storyline for the players, but for the actors themselves they are mostly one-liners they have said about something or they are commenting on something that is going on. There is really no other actor that you are playing off of since you are not returning dialogue. Which mostly means you are talking to yourself--so it is not like a regular acting experience. It usually, especially in Far Cry, was talking to myself the entire time.

AMANDA:Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a game full of great dialogue as well as some great fan service and inside jokes just for gamers. How many of the references did you actually understand while recording for the game, and do you have any favorite games or gaming moments that you'd like to share with us?

MICHAEL:Well, no. I have children and they grew up playing Call of Duty, and I watched them sit behind the computer and play games for hundreds and hundreds of hours throughout their childhood. But I was never familiar with them--I knew that some of them had ratings and some of them were kind of violent--so I kept my younger one away from them. He plays this game where you build stuff--I forget what it is called.

AMANDA:Minecraft? My son plays that too.

MICHAEL: Yeah, he has been playing that for about a year. That is my ten-year-old. He isn't allowed to play any kind of action games that have anything to do with guns. I have a nineteen-year-old son who has been playing Call of Duty for five years. I used to walk by his room and I would go in there and watch him play. I tried to play it once, but it seemed to hard for me to play.

AMANDA: It seems you and Ubisoft Creative Director Dean Evans had a unique relationship while working together on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Can you tell us a bit about working with Dean and some of the ideas you two were able to contribute to the final release of the game?

MICHAEL:Well, first of all, I didn't have any ideas. This is Dean's game and Dean's dialogue, and this is Dean's baby. All I did really was try to help him create a game that took place back in the Eighties or was being told from the Eighties. He is an extraordinarily bright man, and he is very, very creative. I don't think I have ever been around someone who has a mind that moves that fast, as his does, from one creative subject to another. I have a feeling that he will be successful in whatever he does, but this may just be the beginning for him. He is a relatively young man. He is just a brilliant guy from what I can see.

AMANDA: What was the best part or what did you like most about working on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon?

MICHAEL:What I liked most about it was working with Dean; I think he is an extraordinarily talented man. I think he will go on to great things--whether it is gaming, movies or music--because he is just a really talented guy. You know, he reminds me of working with someone like James Cameron or somebody like Michael Bay, Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino. They are just fun people to be around because they are so smart and knowledgeable about the business they are in. He created this game, but he can reference any character in any movie, television show, and he knows music extraordinarily well. He is just an all-around brilliant guy. I consider myself a reasonably smart person so it is fun to be around people that have that much intellectual talent and ability.

AMANDA: There has been mention of a sequel for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, can you tell us a little about this and if you would be interested in working on a sequel?

MICHAEL:I don't know anything. If they do a sequel, that is Dean's decision. I just kind of overheard someone talking about it actually, and it was probably a conversation I shouldn't have heard.

So I don't know if there is going to be a sequel or not. A couple of game sites have come out and said there is going to be a sequel, and I am quoted as saying there is going to be a sequel. I probably shouldn't have said that from just overhearing what someone else was talking about while we were doing the voice-over work. I could be totally wrong about that.

AMANDA: Obviously, Kyle Reese has experience fighting robots in the post-apocalyptic world of The Terminator films, and Hicks can hold his own in a battle as well. Who wins in a fight to the death between these two characters and Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt?

MICHAEL:Well this character I play here in Dean's game has much more effective weapons than either Kyle had or Hicks had. If it was just mano against mano, I would always like to think that Kyle Reese would win. But I think that my character in Dean's game has a steel arm--so if he does and I am not mistaken--then he would probably end up winning in a fight. I have been asked this question between “Aliens” and the “Terminator,” and I always said that Kyle Reese would win. But I think Sergeant Rex "Power" Colt will give them a run for their money because he has a steel arm. If you have a weapon that is attached to your body, then you're going to win the fight.

AMANDA:Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is easily one of the most entertaining games we've played all year thanks in large part to your tremendous acting skills. Do you have any other projects in the works that you'd like to tell us about?

MICHAEL:I have started a production company and made a movie called “The Victim.” The movie is now in video stores and at your local Walmarts and so forth. That is a little grindhouse movie that I made in twelve days and had a lot of fun doing that. I had so much fun from doing that, that Jennifer and I started a production company and shot a second movie and then a third movie that was directed by a friend of mine who I worked on a show with called "Hawaii." Now that one is finished, and Jennifer just directed a movie. We are doing those kind of low budget movies instead of waiting around for agents to call. Now we have two in the can and got some financing for a movie called "Hidden in the Woods," which is a remake of a Chilean movie that a guy did that I liked a lot and we are going to remake.

Another movie I did that came out last year is "The Divide" that is a very, very good movie with Milo Ventimiglia and Rosanna Arquette. There was brilliant acting in it, and it was a very good piece I think. It was one of my better acting performances and one of the better characters I have played. But “The Victim" was something we did in such a short period of time, and in just three weeks I directed, produced and shot it in twelve days. I am probably prouder of making “The Victim" and having it turn out as good as it did than anything I have EVER done as an actor or director in my life. So that is out there for anyone to go see, that was just a little fun movie that was made for almost no money at all. The grindhouse movies from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino have kind of turned me onto these low budget movies, and I remember seeing some of them at drive-in movies as the opening features of movies that my parents went to see with Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" or something of that matter. There would be an original movie that would start at six o'clock--so when it was still light out, then we were all down by the playground, and once it got dark, we would go up and watch the feature. So I made one of these really low-budget grindhouse movies, and I had a lot of fun doing it. And considering how much money and time I had to make it--it is an achievement I will always be very proud of. And I think for me, it is one of my most fulfilling artistic endeavors.

AMANDA: It is great stuff and something everyone should check out. And your work on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was amazing and people are still raving about that as well. I think your work in video games is something you should do more of as well.

MICHAEL: I would like to. These decisions are never made by me, and people ask me why I wasn't in "Aliens 3," why I wasn't in "Avatar," and all I can say is that I don't get the chance. I would like to work with Dean again, but I am not sure if he is going to make any more games or if he is going to go into movies or continue with the music stuff that he does. But I would like to work with Dean again because I think he is a really brilliant guy. And it is really fun to be around these guys like him and James Cameron and Michael Bay. They are just really fun, interesting people to be around. So hopefully I get a chance to work with him again in one capacity or another, and hopefully everyone enjoys "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" as much as I did making it.

The Gasp Menagerie - Family Flees From Haunted Home in FranceSometimes when scouring the Internet for horror movie related news for you cats, we come across an article that we just have to cover. Especially when its content proves to be way stranger than fiction.

According to UPI an everyday normal family in France were forced to leave their homes because of floating objects and violent poltergeist attacks. The residents of the home in Mentque-Nortbecourt said a family member was hospitalized earlier this month after being struck by a chair in the face and a soap tray in the back. If that isn't enough, a close family friend and witness to the alleged haunting had to be hospitalized after suffering injuries caused by thrown stones. Yes, thrown stones.

The family members were given temporary lodging in a campsite by local officials, and the father said the Nord-Pas-de-Calais regional council is working to find them a new home. The family said an exorcist from the local diocese has been visiting the house in an attempt to banish the spirits.

Nothing like kicking off your Tuesday with a chill, huh?

Rest in Peace: Film Legend Ray Harryhausen

$
0
0

Rest in Peace Film Legend Ray Harryhausen"Legend" is not a word that should be thrown around lightly when used to describe someone; yet, Ray Harryhausen is one of the few to whom it applies and then some. It is with a truly heavy heart that we report this absolute genius is no longer with us.

The news comes directly from The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation Facebook Page, where the following message was posted:

The Harryhausen family regret to announce the death of Ray Harryhausen, Visual Effects pioneer and stop-motion model animator. He was a multi-award winner which includes a special Oscar and BAFTA. Ray’s influence on today’s film makers was enormous with luminaries Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, George Lucas, John Landis and the UK’s own Nick Park [having] cited Harryhausen as being the man whose work inspired their own creations.

Harryhausen’s fascination with animated models began when he first saw Willis O’Brien’s creations in KING KONG with his boyhood friend, the author Ray Bradbury, in 1933, and he made his first foray into filmmaking in 1935 with home-movies that featured his youthful attempts at model animation. Over the period of the next 46 years, he made some of the genre's best known movies – MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (1949), IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA (1955), 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH (1957), MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1961), ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. (1966), THE VALLEY OF GWANGI (1969), three films based on the adventures of SINBAD and CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981). He is perhaps best remembered for his extraordinary animation of seven skeletons in JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963) which took him three months to film.

Harryhausen’s genius was in being able to bring his models alive. Whether they were prehistoric dinosaurs or mythological creatures, in Ray’s hands they were no longer puppets but became instead characters in their own right, just as important as the actors they played against and in most cases even more so.

Today The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a charitable Trust set up by Ray on the 10th April 1986, is devoted to the protection of Ray’s name and body of work as well as archiving, preserving and restoring Ray’s extensive collection.

Raymond Frederick Harryhausen - Born: Los Angeles 29th June 1920 - Died: London 7th May 2013. He was 92.

At this time we'd like to take a moment to honor this true film pioneer and extend our sincerest of condolences to Ray's family, friends, and constituents. Thank you so much, sir, for helping to make even the most jaded amongst us believe in magic. Rest easy and BRAVO.

Paul Solet to Have a Very Dark SummerWe've been waiting patiently for director Paul Solet to deliver another scare fest, and it looks like the waiting game is about to pay off in spades with his newly announced flick Dark Summer! Read on for details.

From the Press Release
Paul Solet (GRACE) will direct DARK SUMMER for Preferred Film & TV (PFT), based off a screenplay by Mike Le (creator of the popular web series K-TOWN). DARK SUMMER is produced by PFT's Ross M. Dinerstein and executive produced by Content Film's Jamie Carmichael. Content will handle international sales on the supernatural horror starting at Cannes. Content will share North American sales duties with Preferred Content’s Kevin Iwashina. Production is set to begin in fall 2013.

A highly stylized modern ghost story, DARK SUMMER follows Daniel Williamson, a 17-year-old on house arrest for the summer. With his mother away on business, a horrifying incident occurs, followed by an even more terrifying presence in the house.

"We are excited to be working with Paul and Mike on this twisted supernatural thriller," said producer Ross M. Dinerstein. "Paul's visceral visual style, combined with Mike's complex characters, will both terrify and entertain the audience."

Content’s Carmichael said, “Paul is such a quality filmmaker – and he really knows how to scare the living daylights out of an audience. We’re so excited to be working with him and our partners at Preferred on such a cool movie. We’re building a really first class business together, and DARK SUMMER looks like yet another great franchise starter.”

At Cannes the Content slate will also include PFT’s cult sequel THE PACT 2 and MR. JONES, written and directed by Karl Mueller and recently acquired for North America by Anchor Bay, as well as Caradog James’ THE MACHINE, which both recently world premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival; Paul Tanter’s special forces actioner HE WHO DARES; Anthony Leonardi III’s demonic NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR, starring Anne Heche and produced by former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash; Kieran Parker’s OUTPOST III: RISE OF THE SPETSNAZ; Sean McNamara’s family adventure SPACE WARRIORS, starring Danny Glover, Dermot Mulroney, Mira Sorvino, and Josh Lucas; and Sebastián Silva’s CRYSTAL FAIRY, starring Michael Cera, and Stacie Passon’s controversial CONCUSSION, starring Robin Weigert, which both world premiered in Sundance earlier this year.
