Check into the Nightclub School Hospital

0

So yeah. The Chinese are pretty much as insane as the Japanese when it comes to making horror movies, and if you need any more proof of this fact, then check out the trailer for Nightclub School Hospital. Yes, that's right... Nightclub School Hospital. Don't worry; we're just as confused.

Other than who the stars are, in this case, Chrissie Chau, Van Fan Yi-chen, Deng Jia Jia and Jill Hsu Jie-er, no plot details are available at this time.

Check out the trailer below, which features a lot of the typical weirdness that you've come to expect from flicks of this ilk and a lot of Michael Jackson type dancing. And the spinny thing from Inception. And monstrous sound effects. And weird sky-based anomalies. Oh, and it's a slasher movie. With dancing.

Latest Still from The Chronicles of Riddick Really Floats Our Boat

After taking a look at the latest still from this week's filming, it appears that production on The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking is going swimmingly well. Read on for a peek at the Furyan left for dead...

Synopsis:
The latest chapter of the saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako and introduces to the series previously announced cast member Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's "Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (TV's "Aliens in America") and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

The film will be released by Universal Pictures in the U.S., and Lionsgate is handling international sales.

I don't know what it is about the stills being released for Prometheus, but in almost all of them the actors' heads seem to not quite fit their bodies. Not only that, but they're always staring at something just out of the frame. Check out this latest image featuring Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green that continues the trend.

Prometheus, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, and Ben Foster, will be in theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Synopsis
Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With 'Prometheus' he creates a groundbreaking mythology in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Some New Information Revealed about Aliens: Colonial Marines

0
0

Make Contact in New Aliens: Colonial Marines TrailerYeah, we know. The news that Aliens: Colonial Marines's release was pushed back to fall bummed us out, too, but on the plus side Gearbox Software's CEO Randy Pitchford revealed many interesting new facts about the upcoming title in a recent interview with the PlayStation Blog.

One important revelation was that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be a gritty and realistic aim down the scopes shooter, contrary to what the marketing campaigns and trailers may have led you to believe. In addition, Gearbox Software is placing strong emphasis on the multiplayer mechanics of the game and even plans to bring in outside sources to perfect this aspect. You can find out more in the excerpts below, including how the game will tie in with the new film Prometheus and how you can become a tester for the game.

From the Interview:
"I’m very excited about Prometheus. 20th Century Fox invited us to read the script and check out production, and ACM’s director, Brian Martel, had a discussion with Ridley Scott about the matter years and years ago so it’s been a really interesting seat for us on this one. A bunch of our guys went out to read the script a while back. I chose to decline because I didn’t want the spoilers — I can’t wait to see the final film! Ridley is such a master storyteller and filmmaker, and I’m thrilled that he’s spending some more time in science fiction. Oh, and I haven’t dodged your real question. Yes, ACM will bring you inside The Derelict on LV-426. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll leave it at that!"

"Peer review and testing with customers is really important to us in the tuning process. If any of your readers are in Dallas, Texas, and want to be part of our user testing program, they should check out the Gearbox Software website for more information."

"It’s been fun for us to dream up the presentations, but we’re not approaching it like no one knows what a Xenomorph looks like. We do have some awesome new variants to reveal for the first time so we try to get value out of those moments for the experience when you’re playing the game."

Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for release in the fall of 2012 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more information on the game, check out the Aliens: Colonial Marines website.

It's in the Blood is an altogether new cinematic movement. At its core a father/son story, the film is a deconstruction of the prototypical 'creature feature', incorporating elements of mystical realism and psychological thriller. We call it a 'Psyche-Saga'.

Harry Potter & the House of Hammer Battles The Adventures of Super Carrie for Box Office Championship

    0
    0

Harry Potter and the House of Hammer Battle The Adventures of Super Carrie for the Box Office ChampionshipAt the time of my writing this box office report, we still don’t know how close the score will be in the big game between the New England Patriots and “the New York football Giants” (as Howard Cosell used to call them), but at the movie Super Bowl this weekend, a one-point difference is about all that separated The Woman in Black and Chronicle for the box office championship.

"Harry Potter and the House of Hammer" looked to be the winner of this weekend’s box office struggle at the start of the showdown until "The Adventures of Super Carrie" came from behind to eek out a win. Both films also made box office history as never before had two movies opening on Super Bowl weekend made upwards of $20 million each.

The kind of, sort of, not really, but maybe a little horror-ish superhero cinema verite flick Chronicle overcame the British spookfest The Woman in Black with a first place showing of $22 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The $12 million POV teenagers with superpowers flick written by Max Landis, son of An American Werewolf in London helmer John Landis, proved that volcanically negative audience reaction to The Devil Inside may not have killed the found footage genre after all, at least not when the genre of the found footage movie in question isn’t overtly horror.

Chronicle director Josh Trank has already been tapped by Fox to direct the studio's Fantastic Four reboot that promises to be more fantastic than just silly. If we’re lucky, they’ll take a page out of Chronicle’s playbook and have the rest of the team try and stop the Human Torch after he flips out and goes on a flame-shooting Columbine-like killing spree in a major city.

Hammer Films proved they’re back as the little ghost flick that could, The Woman in Black, brought in around $21 million for the weekend. That’s also good news for its distributor, CBS Films (they acquired the film for $3 million and did not spend much on marketing), and even better news for Daniel Radcliffe, who may have successfully just proven that audiences will accept him in roles that don’t involves magic wands and dorky glasses. Good for him and good for Hammer.

The Grey continues to see green as it raked in $9.5 million for its second weekend. Joe Carnahan’s wilderness survival thriller held strong, only dropping about 52% in its second weekend and holding onto the third place spot.

Between The Grey, Taken, and Unknown, it should now be apparent to Hollywood execs that if they release a movie in late January/early February in which Liam Neeson beats the snot out of men or animals, it will make money. Wintertime is clearly Liam Neeson ass-kicking time.

Kate Beckinsale in skintight fetish wear dropping from ceilings and fighting giant werewolves took in another $5.6 million for fifth place. The $54 million Underworld: Awakening has now taken in domestically pushes it past the box office haul of the previous Kate Beckinsale in skintight fetish wear dropping from ceilings and fighting giant winged were-vamps sequel, Underworld: Evolution.

Next weekend: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island might not be pure horror, but it does have plenty of monsters and The Rock doing the Pec Pop of Love in 3D, a terrifying notion in its own right. Can Dwayne Johnson starring in Brendan Fraser’s sloppy seconds take the top slot?

    Rest in Peace: Bill Hinzman

Rest in Peace: Bill HinzmanIt's with deep sadness that we bring to you the news of the passing of Bill Hinzman this evening. We've lost another icon of the industry and more importantly one of the nicest and most genuine people we've ever had the chance of knowing.

Best known to fans everywhere as Zombie #1 or the Graveyard Zombie from the George A. Romero classic Night of the Living Dead, Hinzman has died after losing a bout with cancer. He was 75.

Bill Hinzman worked on numerous projects over the years, several of which were with Romero, such as There's Always Vanilla, Hungry Wives aka Season of the Witch, and of course The Crazies. On his own he tried his hand at directing with one of our favorite flicks, Flesh Eater.

A fixture on the convention circuit, Bill was always there with a smile for fans, often appearing in costume as the famed ghoul we all grew up with.

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest condolences to Bill's friends, family, and constituents. Rest in peace, sir. You will be incredibly missed.

No word yet if one of the characters is named Malachi or not, but if one is, be sure to watch Community with the lights on. The film is written and directed by Jason Ford.

You never know what you're going to get when you buy a home that's been previously inhabited. Spirits, demons, poltergeists ... all kinds of nasties are potentially waiting for you. The new trailer for Witness shows exactly what we're talking about.

We got the skinny on Witness from Dread Central reader and uber-tipmaster, Avery G. There is very little info out there right now, aside from the fact that this is a Yinka Idowu film, produced by Sunny King for Rex Vision Productions.

But if you're like us, once you check out the trailer, you'll want to see more. There is a brand new Witness Facebook page that's just getting started. Keep an eye out for more info.
