The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and DLC Content Revealed2K Games has announced its plans for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and the post-launch DLC content which will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Players will be able to purchase the title on August 20th, and those who pre-order will receive the exclusive in-game item Light Plasma Pistol.

From the Press Release
2K and 2K Marin, makers of BioShock 2, announced post-launch downloadable content plans today for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified that will see the title supported with updates beyond its August 23, 2013, UK release date. The narrative-driven add-on content will expand the declassified origin story of the clandestine XCOM organization and will be available on the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. The first DLC pack will be available exclusively to Xbox 360 players.

“We take great pride in our track record of providing high-quality post-release content for our games,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We will continue to expand the XCOM universe by telling original stories set in the paranoia-drenched Cold War era of The Bureau.”

“The alternate 1962 universe that we’ve created for The Bureau is vast and there are many more stories to tell about the early days of XCOM,” said Morgan Gray, development director at 2K Marin. “We’re excited that our stories will provide a new perspective on the war effort, much like how our critically acclaimed Minvera’s Den DLC for BioShock 2 allowed us to present a unique perspective of Rapture.”

Players who pre-order The Bureau through any of the participating retailers will receive a bonus campaign side-mission called “Codebreakers.” In this mission, a top secret government communications facility responsible for intercepting and decoding the enemy’s transmissions has gone radio-silent. In a desperate attempt to turn the tides of the secret war, Special Agent Carter and his squad must make contact with personnel in order to bring the facility back online, eliminate any threats, and decrypt the mysterious code.

In addition to the Codebreakers side-mission, those who pre-order The Bureau through GAME will receive the Light Plasma Pistol as an exclusive in-game item. Early Bureau research into outsider weapons technology has yielded promising results in the form of a prototype light plasma pistol. Not as bulky as its Outsider predecessor, this compact weapon fires condensed bolts of plasma and boasts a vastly improved rate-of-fire, giving players an early edge in the secret war for humanity’s survival.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is rated M and will be available on August 20, 2013 in North America and August 23, 2013 internationally for £49.99 SRP on the Xbox 360 console, PlayStation 3 system and Windows PC.

Read on to learn more.

From the Press Release
Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announced that its new vampire-hunting action RPG mobile game, BLOODMASQUE, will be available this summer on all iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad). To further enhance the eerie atmosphere of BLOODMASQUE, players can use their photos (headshots) when customizing their characters, allowing them to face the vampire threat head on.

BLOODMASQUE is powered by Unreal Technology, and the accompanying trailer demonstrates the game’s interactive character customization technology and gameplay footage.

In BLOODMASQUE, players take the role of hunters in vampire-ruled Paris during the late 19th century. As the dark night looms for mankind, hunters must fight the vampires’ insidious oppression and thwart their dark designs.

BLOODMASQUE allows players to snap a picture of themselves with their devices’ front-facing camera or use existing photos. The photos are then stylized to naturally fit the aesthetics of the game. As players prepare for battle, BLOODMASQUE allows them to optimize their party by choosing available characters that have been created by others. Together, they can unite to defeat the onslaught of the vampires.

  • Snap a photo for your hunter’s face, then add expressions for combat and cutscenes.
  • Customize your look using a variety of skin tones, bone structures, and hairstyles.

    Drafthouse Films Acquires The Visitor

Drafthouse Films Acquires The VisitorAnd the video obscurities keep on coming as yet another classic film is being fully restored by the great and wondrous folks behind Drafthouse Films. That's right, kids! The Visitor is getting ready to resurface! Read on for details!

    From the Press Release
Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announced today the acquisition of North American rights to '70s phantasmagoric sci-fi/horror/action/??? hybrid The Visitor. Legendary Hollywood director/actor John Huston (The Maltese Falcon; Treasure Of The Sierra Madre) stars as an intergalactic warriorbattling alongside a cosmic Christ figure against a demonic eight-year-old girl and her pet hawk, as the fate of the universe hangs in the balance. A new HD restoration from the original film materials is planned for a theatrical, home video and multi Video On Demand/Digital platform release later in the year.

In the dawn of '70s American blockbusters, European production companies emerged stateside, attempting to recreate box office gold by cloning Hollywood. The infamous Supreme Court-banned Jaws copy Great White, The Exorcist-esque Beyond The Door, and countless otherswere packaged for export and the burgeoning drive-in circuit. Producer Ovidio G. Assonitis and Director/Professional Body Builder Michael J. Paradise's TheVisitorstands as perhaps the most ambitious of all, taking its inspiration by artfully fusing The Omen, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, The Birds, Rosemary's Baby, The Fury and Star Wars alongside a baffling cast that includes Shelley Winters (NightOfTheHunter), Glenn Ford (Superman), Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Franco Nero (Django) and Sam Peckinpah (director of TheWildBunch).

The result is not so much a carbon copy, but rather an entertainingly hallucinatory and inscrutable mash-up that repertory cinema programmers around the country have rediscovered for late-night bookings. "Just when you think you've nailed down which direction the film is heading in, it completely shatters your notion of the time-space continuum," says LA art-house The Cinefamily. At the time of its original release, TheVisitoruniversally received poor reviews by mainstream critics including TV Guide who simply called it "junk," but now, the film stands as "the Mount Everest of insane '70s Italian movies" (Mondo Digital).

"This film is from another time, another place and another wholly different dimension," says Drafthouse Films Creative Director Evan Husney, "and contains the highest JDPM (jaw-drops-per-minute) ratio out of any movie we have ever encountered. The Visitor is a repertory mainstay at the Alamo Drafthouse and is truly one of the most joyfully delirious theatrical experiences we've unleashed on our audiences. The world wasn't ready for this film in 1979, and it still may not be. Regardless, we are ecstatic to be able to reintroduce cinema's most colossally bizarro achievement. Ever."

The deal was negotiated by COO James Emanuel Shapiro on behalf of Drafthouse Films and Fabrizio Gionaon behalf of the film's rights holder, producer Ovidio G. Assonitis.

Joe Lynch Talks Holliston and More - Part 2

Joe Lynch Talks Holliston, Knights of Badassdom and More!If you've been following along with our "Holliston" interview series, you've read our conversations with Adam Green, Corri English and Laura Ortiz. Today we bring you Part 2 of our exclusive, and very personal, interview with the hilarious Joe Lynch.

You can follow these links to check out the previous interviews with Adam Green (Part 1 here and Part 2 here) and Corri English and Laura Ortiz. And if you missed it, here's Part 1 of our interview with Joe.

In addition to the traits of the characters on the show we discussed with Joe in Part 1, the "Holliston" dialogue has been kept as true to reality as possible. "Adam and I always talked about the way we wanted the language of the show and the diction of the show and the word play of the show to be as organic to how we talk as possible. For example, we were at the Hatchet III premiere with our filmmaker and journalist buddies, and if you could take a tape recorder to some of these conversations, you'd think we were writing dialogue for "Holliston." There's a lot of backhanded humor and some gross-out stuff laced with random quotes from obscure Asian horror films. We all know we get each other, but it's this shorthand that we really respect, and we thought, 'Why not use that kind of diction in a TV show?' Just like "The Big Bang Theory" does when they're talking about Mensa and Star Wars and Flash Gordon and bazinga, and they're not doing it in a way that panders to the audience. It's just if you get it, great; if you don't, you'll still get the story. But the people who get these jokes will adhere to it more. And we thought that'd work just as good with the horror world. If I saw "Holliston" as a fan and I saw these guys talking about Horace Pinker, I'd be a fan for life because they're speaking my language."

By speaking the language of their fan base, the reception from conventions has been outstanding. "When we talk to people, it's like guys will come up to me and punch me in the shoulder and be like, 'Hey, how ya doing, pal?' And I've never met this person before in my life," Lynch said. "There's just this oneness that the cast exudes, and I think when fans watch the show and feel like the fifth, or seventh, member of the cast, then we've done our jobs."

When not cracking up audiences in "Holliston", Lynch has plenty of projects to keep him busy. "I'm in pre-production for my new feature, which I'm directing and co-wrote, called Everly, which is a hardcore action thriller," Lynch said. "It's essentially… well, you know how you always hear an action film is Die Hard on a boat or Die Hard at Denny's or Die Hard at the DMV? Everly is Die Hard in a room. It's about a woman who's trapped in her apartment. Her Yakuza boyfriend finds out she's an informant and sends all of his goons after her. And the uniqueness of the movie is the fact that the camera never leaves the apartment. It's always stuck with her. So the entire film takes place in this one space. Thus, Die Hard in a room. Or if you took the last 10 minutes of Leon the Professional and stretched it out over 90 minutes, that's the movie."

And just who is going to be featured in Everly? Get a load of this. "It stars Salma Hayek, which is pretty amazing," Lynch said. "And we're going out in a couple of weeks to start shooting."Everly, keep an eye out for it.

Finally, when the name Joe Lynch comes up and you're not talking about "Holliston", the conversation will almost certainly eventually come around to an infamous film directed by Lynch (no, we're not talking about Wrong Turn 2). We mean of course Knights of Badassdom. Lynch was kind enough to let us in on a few of his struggles with the film. ""Holliston" essentially saved my life," Lynch said. "This is something I haven't really talked about that much in interviews, but of course the elephant in the room is, 'What's going on with Knights of Badassdom?' I'll be the first person to say it. That film is unfortunately stuck in stasis for now. Making KoB was a great but very challenging experience, and the business decisions that have been made thus far regarding its completion and release are totally out of my control."

So truly, "Holliston" and now Everly have helped Lynch deal with the incredible negative pressures that developed from the Knights of Badassdom issues. "There's nothing better to pull yourself out of a creative rut like I found myself in than to do something else creative," Lynch said. "Whether it's something completely divergent from what you're doing or even down to drawing with crayons and having something else to do as an outlet, just so you're not thinking about that one unfortunate situation. Because it sucks when commerce messes with art, but it happens all the time. I'm not saying Knights of Badassdom is MoMA or LACMA worthy, but it was something that I thought was very artistic AND commercial, and it kills me every day thinking that it's not out there and not out there in the way it should be. But hopefully that works itself out. But until then, I thank God that I have Everly and thank God I have "Holliston" and these other great opportunities where I'm able to express myself. I don't know what I would have done without them."

We all wish Lynch the best as he moves forward with Everly and his other exciting projects.

Horror network Chiller TV continues to make headway in the world of terrestrial horror themed broadcasting as they have just announced the addition of two features to their line-up of 2013-2014 original movies. Read on for details.

According to Deadline, Animal, from executive producer Drew Barrymore and her Flower Films banner, follows a group of friends stranded in an isolated cabin who find themselves hunted by a predator. Deep in the Darkness stars Sean Patrick Thomas and Dean Stockwell in the tale of a NYC doctor who moves his family to a small town only to discover a race of creatures living in the woods behind their home.

These films join the previously announced features Beneath, from director Larry Fessenden, and The Monkey’s Paw, adapted from W.W. Jacobs’ short story, to launch Chiller Films’ new multiplatform release strategy. The four titles will get limited theatrical runs via Synthetic Cinema International before debuting on VOD in partnership with NBCU Digital Distribution.

    More on Chiller’s slate:

    Animal
When plans for a weekend vacation hit a dead end, a group of close-knit friends find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a menacing, bloodthirsty predator. Holed up in an isolated cabin, tensions mount as long-buried secrets are revealed. As the body count rises, the group must put their differences aside and fight for survival. Animal is from executive producers Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen and producers Chris Miller, Ember Truesdell, Kelly Smith, and Thommy Hutson for Flower Films. The film is written by Thommy Hutson and Catherine Trillo and directed by Brett Simmons; creature effects are by Gary J. Tunnicliffe.

    Deep in the Darkness
Dr. Michael Cayle thought leaving the chaotic lifestyle of New York City behind for the quiet, small town of Ashborough would bring his family closer together. Soon after arriving, however, he discovers the town’s deepest secret: a terrifying – and controlling – race of creatures that live amongst the darkness in the woods behind his home. Deep in the Darkness stars Sean Patrick Thomas and Dean Stockwell and is produced by Andrew Gernhard and Zach O’Brien for Synthetic Cinema International (Remains, Dead Souls). The film is written by John Doolan and directed by Colin Theys. Based on the novel by Michael Laimo.

    Beneath
When a group of young friends commemorating their high school graduation take a trip to the remote Black Lake, their celebration turns into a nightmare with the sudden appearance of a bloodthirsty, underwater predator. Stuck in a leaking boat with no oars, the teens face the ultimate tests of friendship and sacrifice during a terror-stricken fight for survival. Beneath is written by Tony Daniel and Brian D. Smith and directed by horror icon Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Habit). Produced by Fessenden and Peter Phok for Glass Eye Pix (Stake Land, The Innkeepers, I Sell The Dead).

    The Monkey’s Paw
After Jake Tilton acquires a mystical “monkey’s paw” talisman that grants its possessor three wishes, he finds his world turned upside down after his first two wishes result in his malevolent coworker, Tony Cobb, being resurrected from the dead. When Cobb pressures Jake into using the final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, his intimidation quickly escalates into relentless murder – forcing Jake to outwit his psychotic friend and save his remaining loved ones.

The Monkey’s Paw stars CJ Thomason ("Harper’s Island") as Jake, Stephen Lang (Avatar) as Cobb, Michelle Pierce ("Days of Our Lives") as Olivia, Tauvia Dawn (Level 26: Dark Prophecy) as Abby, Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) as Catfish, and Charles S. Dutton (Legion) as Detective Margolis. The Monkey’s Paw is adapted from the renowned short story by W.W. Jacobs. The film is written by Macon Blair and directed by Brett Simmons. Ross Otterman produces for TMP Films, LLC.

40th Anniversary Exorcist Blu-ray on its Way!

40th Anniversary Exorcist Blu-ray on its Way!Another film getting ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary is The Exorcist, and to celebrate the occasion, Warner Bros. is releasing what is nothing short of a be-all/end-all Blu-ray edition. Check out the details right here!

    From the Press Release
When The Exorcist was first released in 1973, viewers were frightened out of their wits - and literally out of their seats. Now Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Academy Award® winning director William Friedkin’s suspense masterpiece that haunted and intrigued the world with a new Blu-ray release featuring the Extended Director’s Cut and Theatrical Version with new special features and premiums ($49.99 SRP). Available October 8, just ahead of Halloween, this 40th Anniversary Edition will include two new featurettes: “Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist” and “Talk of the Devil,” as well as an excerpt from Friedkin’s book The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir.

A true cinema landmark, the theological thriller is one of the top ten box-office performers of all time. The Exorcist took 10 Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, and won two Oscars® for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as winning for Best Sound. Subsequently, the film went on to become a multi-million dollar franchise. Directed by Friedkin (Oscar®-winner for The French Connection - Directing 1971) and written by William Peter Blatty, the film is based on his best-selling novel, which sold nearly 13 million copies domestically and was the #1 book on the New York Times Best Seller List for 57 weeks, 17 of them at #1.

Regarding the Extended Director’s Cut, Friedkin says, “After my initial cut, I took out 12 more minutes before we released it in theatres. Years later, Bill Blatty asked if I’d review some of that rejected footage (which he always felt should have remained) with an eye towards putting it back in a new version. In so doing I believe we strengthened the spiritual aspect of the film.”

Celebrated for his directorial role in this seminal film, Friedkin is still very much in the limelight. His new book, The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir, recently published by HarperCollins, extensively discusses the background and casting of The Exorcist. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films will honor Friedkin this month with their Lifetime Achievement Award for his continually influential work in genre entertainment at this year’s Saturn Awards. In August Friedkin will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 70th Venice International Film Festival, where he will present the restored version of Warner Bros.’ Sorcerer. And Friedkin and author Blatty will attend a special 40th Anniversary screening of their film at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., on October 30. The film will also have an exclusive theatrical engagement October 31 through November 7th at the AMC Georgetown.

    Synopsis
The Exorcist tells the now-famous story of a girl’s demonic possession, and a gripping fight between good and evil. Linda Blair, in a breakout role, plays Regan, a young girl who starts to exhibit strange, arcane behavior. Her mother (Ellen Burstyn, Oscarâ-winner for Best Actress Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) calls upon a priest, Father Karras (Jason Miller) to investigate. But Karras, who has a spiritual crisis of his own, is suddenly confronted with the unimaginable evil of Regan’s possession. Father Lankester Merrin (Max Von Sydow), an archeologist-priest, is called to help, and a horrific battle for her soul begins.

    Special Features:

  • Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist (NEW) 40 years after his novel was published, The Exorcist author, screenwriter and producer returns to where it all began. First stop is a cabin/guest house in the hills of Encino, California, where Blatty wrote the novel. The author visits the place for the first time in 40 years and shares not only memories of writing the book, but also discusses how it inspired him. We then meet Blatty in two key and iconic locations; Georgetown University where the film was shot, and at the now-famous Exorcist steps. Throughout, Blatty reads from his novel, including an excerpt from a chilling newly published passage.
  • Talk of the Devil (NEW) – While at Georgetown University, William Peter Blatty heard about a true case of possession from Father Eugene Gallagher.
