RUTHLESS PICTURES and GMI FILMS announce the theatrical release date for MISCHIEF NIGHT and unveil the film’s theatrical one-sheet. The filmmakers have just completed post-production and plan to open the movie in select theaters on October 25, 2013. The new poster reveals a terrifying first look at “The Intruder” in this exciting new take on the home invasion thriller genre and sets the tone for what the filmmakers hope to be “the next iconic character in horror.”

Mischief Night tells the story of a terrifying home invasion the night before Halloween. Young Emily Walton, who has suffered from psychosomatic blindness ever since the car accident that took her mother’s life, must summon every instinct at her disposal to protect herself and her loved ones from a mysterious intruder.

With the theatrical release date now set, writer/director Richard Schenkman shares his thoughts after finishing a grueling production schedule. “It’s been a mad dash, but we’ve made it across the finish line and ‘Mischief Night’ is finished. I could not be more pleased with how it all came together. It looks great and sounds great -- the score by Anastasia Devana is powerful and evocative, Richard Vialet’s photography is beautiful, and the entire cast gave it everything they had. I think we’ve made a film which not only will please genre fans, but also a more general audience.” When asked about the movie’s overall tone, Schenkman replied, “While the picture is packed with genuine scares as well as some shocking and cathartic violence, I believe there’s a powerful emotional through line, dealing with themes of grief, forgiveness, fear, and love. I’ve been told that in some ways the movie feels very ‘old school,’ calling to mind the original ‘Halloween’ and even ‘Wait Until Dark,’ but it’s absolutely contemporary in tone and look. Thriller fans old and new will find plenty to love here, and I can’t wait to share it with audiences this October.”

Producer Eric D. Wilkinson, who is overseeing the marketing of the movie leading up to the theatrical release, shares his thoughts on the positioning of the film: “We were torn regarding how much to reveal on the movie’s theatrical one-sheet. Our effects team created such a great look for Adam Edwards’ ‘Intruder’ that I really believe he could become the next iconic character in horror. Works Design Group (our graphic design team) came up with a lot of great ideas for the poster, but I know fans of the genre want a peek at the bad guy, and all of the other comps we created just paled in comparison. I’m proud to have this image be the anchor for our theatrical poster. It sets the tone and gives a powerful first look at what’s in store.”

The talented ensemble cast is led by experienced young actress Noell Coet (Cowgirls 'n Angels, 5 Time Champion), and also includes veteran actor Daniel Hugh Kelly (Cujo, Someone to Watch Over Me, The Good Son), Charlie O’Connell (Dude, Where’s My Car, Cruel Intentions, Sliders), Erica Leerhsen (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Anything Else), Ally Walker (“Sons of Anarchy,” While You Were Sleeping, Universal Soldier), Stephanie Erb (The Ring, Starship Troopers), Richard Riehle (Bridesmaids, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas), Adam C. Well, whattaya know? A new one-sheet and a new trailer on the same day? Somebody in the new group surrounding Jeff Renfroe’s latest cannibal-based flick, The Colony, is on a roll. So the question beckons... sourdough or kaiser?

Synopsis
Set during the next Ice Age, The Colony follows an outpost of colonists who struggle to survive below the world’s frozen surface. Short on supplies and plagued by illness and internal conflict, the colonists suspect the worst when they mysteriously lose contact with their only other known settlement, Colony 5. When Colony 7′s leader Briggs (Laurence Fishburne) decides to lead an expedition to discover what happened, he is challenged by Mason (Bill Paxton), his former comrade-in-arms, who has his own ideas of what is best for the colonists. Briggs takes two volunteers on the mission, the young Graydon and Sam (Kevin Zegers), a strong-willed mechanic who seizes the opportunity to confront the icy wasteland that orphaned him. When they reach their destination, the team discover a threat much worse than nature and must battle to save themselves and protect their fellow colonists in what might be humanity’s last stand.

More casting news for FX's adaptation of horror novel The Strain has come in as Jack Kesy has landed a regular role on the show to play Gabriel Bolivar, a character in the vein of Iggy Pop. The main difference between the two? He can take off his shirt without making people vomit.

Guillermo del Toro will direct "The Strain" pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, who also co-authored the books with him. Carlton Cuse ("Lost,""Bates Motel"), who helped develop the adaptation, executive produces alongside del Toro and will serve as showrunner, overseeing the potential series with del Toro. Hogan and del Toro’s longtime manager/producing partner Gary Ungar also serve as exec producers of the project, produced by FX Prods. Kevin Durand, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde, John Hurt, Miguel Gomez, Corey Stoll and Mia Maestro all star.

"The Strain," an adaptation of del Toro’s vampire novel trilogy, formally has a pilot order but is being eyed for a 13-episode series pickup. It is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The Vicious Brothers made a name for themselves with their ghosthouse gone completely crazed film Grave Encounters, and now the duo are ready to move on to different kinds of unearthly beings. Read on for the first word on The Visitors.

According to Deadline, Freddie Stroma (pictured) will star in The Visitors, the indie feature written and to be directed by The Vicious Brothers. The film is said to be a dark and edgy sci-fi thriller that revolves around a group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods. There, they are terrorized by alien visitors who definitely have not come in peace.

Randy Manis, Kim Arnott, Shawn Angelski, and Martin Fisher are producing; and filming is set to start up at the end of June. Stroma most recently was seen in Pitch Perfect, and up next is The Philosophers alongside James D’Arcy and Rhys Wakefield.

A few weeks ago our UK readers got the good news that Andrzej Zulawski's Possession is on its way to Blu-ray from Second Sight, and today we have a trailer, a couple of stills, and some new artwork to share.

As for why Second Sight made the sleeve change, the company's rep Chris Holden stated, "We were able to access a higher quality theatrical poster image and have decided to stay truer to the original colours. We're really pleased with the result!"

Synopsis

Believing his wife’s only lover is the sinister Heinrich, Mark is unaware of the diabolical, tentacled creature that Anna has embarked on an affair with. The unhinged woman visits her monstrous lover in a deserted Berlin apartment and will stop at nothing to protect him.

With its dark subject matter and high gore quotient, Possession is not for the faint-hearted.

Return to Castlerama, the mesmerizingly beautiful action adventure for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch is now available in the App Store, priced at $4.99.

Developed using Unreal Engine, Return to Castlerama follows the release in May 2011 of the demo, entitled simply Castlerama, which became a viral success internationally, with over 300,000 downloads. The Castlerama demo featured a journey made through the beautiful landscape of Assisi in Italy, by renowned artist Michele Böhm, together with graphic artist and game designer Francesco Palenga.

The pair used the demo’s content to inspire the creation of Return to Castlerama, which features family feuds, mistaken identity, and elements of the supernatural. The player is cast as David, a young man seeking to save his village Castlerama, and the surrounding Gorendal Valley, from the curse of the evil Artaserses. As well as exploring the neighborhood and the lush environs of the valley, David will also encounter zombies, a dragon, and other fantastical monsters.

There are also eye-catching ‘tarot’ cards to be collected which form an integral part of the end-game.

Michele Böhm, who has exhibited throughout Italy and Europe over the last 33 years, and taught in Milan and at the University of Rome, has always been passionate about the potential of bringing computer technology and art together. Separating fact from fiction and real life from reel life, the Smithsonian Channel original series "The Real Story" launches its fifth season on June 30th, and it will include the true story behind box office hit Scream, airing July 28th.

"THE REAL STORY" explores the impact Rolling’s shocking killing spree had on the university town, from the media frenzy to the mass paranoia that swept across the small community, and follows the trials and tribulations of the year-long investigation to track down the murderer. We've been talking about Cannibal Diner, directed by Frank Montag from a screenplay by Mario von Czapiewski, for quite some time; and now that the flick is closing in on a DVD release, we finally have a look at the official artwork.

The fully uncut Cannibal Diner DVD will be released in the US and Canada on October 15th by BRICKvision. Extras include a special audio commentary by Montag and von Czapiewski, who also produced the film.

The Huffington Post ran a story about a man who thinks a cave system in Kansas holds the key to humanity’s survival. Robert Vicino bought a former U.S. Army storage facility near Kansas City. He believes the caves are strong enough to survive any bad event ranging from a meteor strike to nuclear war.

In the meantime, the Vivos Shelter and Resort plans to let people come for a “Survival Skills” vacation to pay the bills.

Hmmm, so, I could go on a vacation in the middle of Kansas and learn how to eat bark and grass? Waiter, pour the whiskey, I think I’m just gonna watch the end of the world instead.

We don't often run "highlight" clips from TV shows that have already aired, but last night's season finale of "Hannibal" was so awesome that we're not ready to shut the door on it just yet.

The first season of "Hannibal" was basically a cat and mouse game between our favorite serial killing cannibal Dr. Lecter and the extremely unstable FBI profiler Will Graham that kept us on the edge of our seats until the very last second, and this clip was the turning point we'd been waiting weeks for. The sexy new drama centers on the Original Family, as Klaus (Joseph Morgan) returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans.

- The Tomorrow People: From executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow), Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries), Phil Klemmer (Chuck) and Danny Cannon (Nikita), The Tomorrow People is a story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically.

- The 100: 97 years ago, Earth was devastated by a nuclear apocalypse, and mankind was nearly destroyed. The only survivors were the inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. The stations came together to form the Ark, but with resources dwindling and population growth soaring, the decision is made to send The 100, a group of juvenile delinquents, to the surface to test whether Earth is once again habitable.

Synopsis:

A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in present day L.A., Franck Khalfoun's Maniac, produced by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Haute Tension) and composed by Rob of the band Phoenix, is a re-boot of the William Lustig cult film considered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made - an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiraling nightmare of a killer and his victims.

When you have a character as badass as Riddick, you really don't have to do much when it comes to the film's one-sheets, and this latest IMAX version definitely knows that less is in fact sometimes more. Check it out!

Riddick stars Vin Diesel and is based on a script by David Twohy, who wrote both Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black, where he first created the character of Riddick.

Joining Diesel are a returning Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako; Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV's "Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Aliens in America), and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

Synopsis:
Riddick, the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000’s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.
