Writer/director MJ Dixon's Slasher House is now available in the UK and heading to the States in early 2014, and already there's a prequel in the works titled Legacy of Thorn. Read on for the early details.

Legacy of Thorn, which is the prequel and backstory to Slasher House, has exceeded its IndieGoGo goal with filming set to start next week in an abandoned school building in the north of England. The leading lady is British model and actress Jade Wallis, and she'll have support from the main cast of Johnnie Russell, Jane Haslehurst, and Craig Canning.

Synopsis:
Legacy of Thorn is the story of Jess, a beautiful, popular high school cheerleader who has everything going for her when the day of her 16th birthday comes around. However, things take a turn for the worst when an urban legend becomes her terrifying and bloody reality as she is hunted down by the masked killer known only as Thorn.

Four years on, she and a band of survivors plan to stop Thorn once and for all. As the shocking secrets are revealed as to why Jess is Thorn's target and what he wants with her, will Jess be able to overcome the monster once and for all?

A new featurette has arrived for the upcoming apocalyptic horror comedy The World's End, which ends the trilogy of parody films that started with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and it takes both a look back and a look ahead. Check it out!

The World's End is directed by Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg along with long time buddy Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan.

Synopsis
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Finally a trailer is here for the upcoming sliver of sasquatchploitation from Bobcat Goldthwait, Willow Creek. Check it out right here right now before its body is stripped clean by strange woodland creatures.

With Willow Creek Goldthwait has apparently mixed satire with suspense, and overall his film is driven by “exploring the idea of bearing witness.” The flick is home to various characters who believe they’ve seen the elusive Sasquatch. They each give differing accounts and at times even come to blows. Goldthwait is said to use this kind of tension to get in some observations on faith and religion.

Synopsis
Jim and his girlfriend, Kelly, are in Willow Creek, California, to retrace the steps of Bigfoot researchers Patterson and Gimlin, who in 1967 recorded the most famous film of the legendary monster. Kelly is a skeptic, along for the ride to spend time with her boyfriend between acting gigs. Jim, a believer, hopes to capture footage of his own, so his camera is constantly rolling.

The small town is a mecca to the Bigfoot community: Sasquatch statues guard the local businesses, murals of the missing link line the roads, and Bigfoot burgers are the town delicacy. The couple interview locals who range from skeptic to believer and from manic to completely menacing. Some of the stories they hear are of chance encounters with a gentle creature, while others are tales of mysterious eviscerations.

On the day that Jim and Kelly plan on hiking into the woods to look for proof, they are given a simple warning: “It’s not a joke. You shouldn’t go there.” Despite the ominous message and Kelly’s own reservations, they head deep into the forest to set up camp. The events that follow will make them wish they had simply spent the night at the Bigfoot Motel.

Director and two-time IFFBoston alum Bobcat Goldthwait (WORLD’S GREATEST DAD, 2009; GOD BLESS AMERICA, 2012) pumps new life into the found-footage horror genre with WILLOW CREEK. His characters’ genuine humor gives them a humanity that is essential to setting up the scares. The satire is so successful that the film’s audience will have no idea what to do with the tension and fear that comes later—other than to white-knuckle it while sitting in the dark.

The sounds of Goblin have been haunting our favorite horror movies for a long time now, and finally the band is U.S. bound for a tour that's not to be missed. Read on for details and tour dates.

Almost 40 years removed from their debut, cult legends Goblin will launch their first ever North American tour this October. The tour will start October 1st in Atlanta, GA, and will culminate with a two-night run of performances in Austin, TX, at the Housecore Horror Film Festival on October 25th and 27th.

The Italian Soundtrack Kings will perform all of their classic cuts, including scores from Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebrae, Dawn of the Dead, Phenomena, Sleepless and other songs that are milestones among prog rock followers, including songs from Roller, Il fantastico Viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark, and most recently Back to the Goblin. Other famous scores never performed live anywhere will be included on this tour.

First signals of a reunion started 8 years ago when Massimo Morante and Maurizio Guarini, together with other members of Goblin, released a new album, Back to the Goblin, after a long absence. The band felt it was time to expose the music to new generations of fans and invigorate their loyal following. In 2009, Goblin started touring the world, hitting the major European cities including Rome, Paris, London, Berlin, and many others (in 2010 Claudio Simonetti re-joined the band). The band found the tour to be a great success, and the fan base kept growing, bringing back the old enthusiastic crowds of the Seventies and converting new fans of all ages along the way. To follow this up, in 2011/2012 the band ventured to Japan and Australia and met the same enthusiasm. This led to an increased desire to come to North America as a full band for the first time ever.

The tour will include a small amount of VIP ticketing, allowing fans to meet the band, get up close, see part of the soundcheck, and walk away with a commemorative poster. Also during the tour the band will be selling an exclusive tour EP put out by Death Waltz Records. The EP features brand new versions of classic Goblin tracks re-recorded by the recently reunited band. The EP will be pressed on blood red 180g vinyl and feature an exclusive cover design by poster artist Graham Humphrey's (Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street).

The lineup for this tour will include original members since 1975 Claudio Simonetti and Maurizio Guarini (keyboards) and Massimo Morante (guitar). The band is rounded out by drummer Titta Tani and bassist Bruno Previtali that joined in 2010.

Support on the tour (up to October 20th) will come from the Northern California based Secret Chiefs 3, formed by Mr. Bungle founding member Trey Spruance. Secret Chiefs 3 have developed quite a cult following of their own over the last 15 years with their blend of other worldly psychedelic rhythms and melodies.

The horror and sci-fi worlds have lost another true legend. We're very sad to report that acclaimed author Richard Matheson has passed away at age 87.

Matheson's passing was first announced on Facebook by his daughter, Ali Marie Matheson:

My beloved father passed away yesterday [June 23, 2013] at home surrounded by the people and things he loved…he was funny, brilliant, loving, generous, kind, creative, and the most wonderful father ever…I miss you and love you forever Pop and I know you are now happy and healthy in a beautiful place full of love and joy you always knew was there…

Born in New Jersey on February 20, 1926, Matheson was raised in Brooklyn, New York, published his first science fiction short story in 1950, and became an extremely prolific writer of stories and scripts between 1950 and 1971. Over the course of his career he received a World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement, a Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement, and he was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2010.

Some of his most notable works include I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man, What Dreams May Come, Hell House, the script for the Steven Spielberg film Duel, and many "Twilight Zone" scripts; and he also adapted the works of Edgar Allan Poe for Roger Corman's Poe series including House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), and The Raven (1963). But that's really just the tip of the iceberg of the great works he leaves behind.

We here at Dread Central express our condolences to Richard's family, friends, and fans worldwide. He will be missed indeed; however, his influence will live on forever.

20th Century Fox is looking at two actors in particular to fill the role of Victor Frankenstein in the upcoming flick Frankenstein which features Daniel Radcliffe as the hunchback assistant named Igor.

According to Deadline, Fox is flying both Jack Huston (pictured; "Boardwalk Empire") and Toby Kebbel (Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla) to London to read for the coveted part. While the list could expand, the early word seems to indicate that Fox is looking to have this wrapped up by next week.

Paul McGuigan is at the helm of this revisionist take on Mary Shelley's masterpiece. Based on a script by Max Landis (Chronicle), this adaptation of Shelley's novel of the same name puts a sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment. Radcliffe's hunchback is described as pathologically dirty and dressed in old clown's clothing.

Look for this latest take on the classic tale in theatres October 17, 2014.

We finally have good news for those of you looking forward to checking out the indie fear flick from Elijah Wood's horror film company SpectreVision, Toad Road (review) from writer-director Jason Banker. The flick is planning to hit said road this October!

The horror-thriller Toad Road earned praise from audiences and critics alike last fall at the influential Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, where it won awards for “Best Director” (Jason Banker) and “Best Actor” (James Davidson).

Building on that momentum, Artsploitation Films has announced it will bring Toad Road to theaters this October. Following the film’s theatrical run, the company will release it on DVD and VOD as well as in the digital marketplace.

“There is a nihilism and decay present within the characters of Toad Road that makes the film mesmerizing. The horror comes not from just a mystical location and inevitable conclusion, but a very real, very dark place in each of their hearts. It's a unique film that must be seen,” says Brian Sokel, vice president of Artsploitation Films. The TOAD ROAD acquisition deal was negotiated by Traction Media on behalf of the filmmakers. Jennifer Arndt-Johns negotiated on behalf of Artsploitation Films.

Director, writer, and cinematographer Jason Banker (My Name is Faith) directed and produced Toad Road, his first narrative feature. The cast includes James Davidson, Whitleigh Higuera, and Sara Anne Jones. Tragically, Jones – whose character abuses drugs in the film – died of an accidental overdose on September 4, 2012, shortly after the film’s world premiere.

Toad Road was produced by Jason Banker's Blackout Films in collaboration with Liz Levine and Adrian Salpeter of Random Bench and was executive produced by SpectreVision, a horror film company started by Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, and acclaimed actor Elijah Wood.

Wood first saw Toad Road while helping select movies for the Nightmare City horror film festival at The Cinefamily in Los Angeles. He says: “We created our company to explore and expand the definition of the horror genre. Toad Road's blend of documentary and nightmarish hallucination speaks to this perfectly. It provides a unique and disturbing portal into self-destructive behavior that barrels horrifically out of control. We're proud to present this extremely powerful and resonant film."

For the film, Banker used a mix of documentary and narrative form to create this disturbing supernatural portrait of contemporary youth culture and drug use. The story takes place in rural Pennsylvania near the town of York, an infamous area that – according to urban legend – has a trail in the woods containing the seven gates that lead to Hell.

Speaking with Twitch, Banker discussed how much of TOAD ROAD was improvised. “I had a backbone of an idea…but other than that, there wasn’t too much that I had planned. I knew that I wanted to shoot with these kids and get into their life and let who they were and what they did inform the characters in the film.”

News of a new film from Round One Entertainment that mixes martial arts and horror landed in our inbox, and it also includes two of our favorite horror stars so of course we're happy to provide the first word on The Ultimate Throwdown.

The Ultimate Throwdown stars retired Team Lockout cage fighter Rob Davidson (Game of Deception), horror icon Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th, Sickle), scream queen Tiffany Shepis (pictured; Night of the Demons, Intrusion: Disconnected), and Mixed Martial Arts legend Bill "Superfoot" Wallace (A Force of One, Los Bravos).

The film is in the final stages of pre-production with the first day of production scheduled for July 24th near Portland, Indiana, with principal photography wrapping in mid-August. It was written and will be produced by Rob Davidson and is directed by Jim Dougherty. The score will be composed by Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th, Deep Star Six), and the director of photography is Jim Timperman (Scalene, Little Big Top).

Synopsis:
Days before Marshal Matt Cooper's big MMA fight with Cane Morgan, what appears to be a routine police call changes the course of Matt's future. An unexpected battle with a chemically altered killer nearly costs Matt his life. Following his recovery and return to duty, a new drug investigation leads Cooper back to a new confrontation with the killer in The Ultimate Throwdown.

Scourge: Outbreak Key Features:

Could there have been anyone better than Will Smith's Captain Steven Hiller to deliver the final death blow to the invading alien horde in the classic film Independence Day? Filmmakers had better hope so because they've confirmed that Smith won't be called to duty again.

In a New York Daily News article, the film's director, Roland Emmerich, spoke about not bringing back Smith for Independence Day 2. ""Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," Emmerich said. "It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you would know from the first film [in the script], and the other half are people who are new." Emmerich is currently promoting his latest film, White House Down.

As for the current progress on the project, screenwriter James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Zodiac) is polishing the original script by Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin. "We're not doing a total reboot; we're doing something that's totally unusual," said Emmerich. The 20th Century Fox produced film is scheduled for a July 3, 2015, release. It's being planned as the first part of a two-film story tentatively entitled ID Forever: Part 1 and Part 2.

Last night's airing of "Under the Dome" gave CBS the most-watched summer premiere of any network since 2007, and we have more info on that along with a ton of videos to share so get comfortable!

Before we get to the eye candy, here's a brief analysis of the "UTD" ratings per The Wrap:

CBS' adaptation of Stephen King's "Under the Dome" drew an impressive 3.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 13.1 million total viewers. But NBC scored an overall ratings win for the night with Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals, according to preliminary numbers. While the numbers for NBC are approximate due to the nature of live sports, it currently holds first place in the 18-49 demo with an average 3.1/9 for the night. NBC currently holds second place in total viewers with 7.9 million. Prior to the game, which tied "Under the Dome" for first in the demo with a 3.2/9 and drew 8.3 million total viewers, the network aired its pregame show, which had a 2.1/7 with 5.9 million total viewers.

CBS, which aired repeats running up to the 10 PM "Under the Dome" premiere, was second in the demo with a 2.1/6 and first in total viewers with 8.2 million. In addition to tying for first in ratings and scoring the night's largest total viewership, the "Dome" debut was the most-watched summer premiere of any network since NBC's "The Singing Bee," which earned 13.3 million viewers in 2007. It was CBS' most-watched summer premiere since "Big Brother" earned 22.3 million in July 2000.

Plot details have been scared up for Marlon Wayans' sequel to A Haunted House, entitled A Haunted House 2, and we have 'em for you here along with a list of films the movie will spoof!

Before we get to the goods, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that director Michael Tiddes will be returning for more supernatural tomfoolery for the sequel which is intent on spoofing the likes of Paranormal Activity 4, Sinister, The Possession, Insidious, The Conjuring and more.

The original A Haunted House took in around $40 million worldwide. Open Road Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to spoof sequel A Haunted House 2, starring Marlon Wayans, who is also co-writing the script. Look for the flick in theaters on March 28th, 2014.

Summit Entertainment's highly anticipated feature film adaptation of DIVERGENT stars Golden Globe® nominated Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Academy Award® winner Kate Winslet. The film also features Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Tony Goldwyn, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, and Amy Newbold. Currently filming in Chicago, the futuristic action adventure based on author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best seller is being directed by Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor. The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the project via their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Red Wagon’s Rachel Shane is executive producing alongside John J. Kelly. Summit will release the film theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21, 2014.

DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. The fact-based film concerns a mysterious incident in 1959, when nine experienced hikers were found dead. It finds contemporary students on a trek to investigate the mystery. Producers are Alexander Rodnyansky, Kia Jam, Harlin, and Sergei Bespalov.

Harlin said: "I was fascinated by this story, which remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of modern paranormal lore. The facts, the script, and the very dramatic setting convinced me that there is a thrilling movie there, just waiting to rivet audiences."

In a nutshell the Dyatlov Pass Incident (as it is known) refers to an unsolved mystery that occurred in the northern Urals which saw a group of ski hikers tear open their tent from the inside and leave barefoot in a heavy snowstorm. Though there was no sign of a struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, one was missing her tongue, and clothing belonging to the victims contained high levels of radiation. Soviet investigators concluded that "a compelling unknown force" had caused their deaths.

Synopsis
The Dyatlov Pass Incident follows a group of students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell an unexplained death while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. To this day, their deaths have been one of the most bizarre unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.

The Conjuring stars Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga ("Bates Motel," Orphan) and Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Insidious) as the Warrens and Ron Livingston (HBO’s “Band of Brothers”) and Lili Taylor (Public Enemies) as Roger and Carolyn Perron, residents of the house.

The film is produced by Peter Safran, Tony DeRosa-Grund, and Rob Cowan with Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter serving as executive producers. Reuniting with the director are members of his Insidious creative team, director of photography John Leonetti, editor Kirk Morri, and costume designer Kristin M. Burke, and his Saw production designer, Julie Berghoff. The music is composed by Joseph Bishara.
