Lance Reddick Joins The GuestOne of the stars of HBO's "The Wire," Lance Reddick, and Canadian teen star Brendan Meyer have joined the cast of the new flick from Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett (V/H/S, V/H/S/2, You're Next, A Horrible Way to Die), entitled The Guest. Read on for details.

They join the previously announced Dan Stevens and Maika Monroe in the film. According to The Wrap, Stevens ("Downton Abbey") stars as David, an ex-Marine who returns from a tour of duty and is taken in by a fallen comrade's family, whom he proceeds to terrorize. As the female lead, Monroe will seek to protect her family from David's cold-blooded wrath. Meyer will play Monroe's younger brother, while Reddick (pictured above) will play a government agent aware of David's medical history who sets out to stop his violent rampage.

Adam Wingard will direct from a script by Simon Barrett, while Keith Calder and Jessica Wu will produce via Snoot Entertainment. Production starts this summer.

Go Behind the Scenes of A Field in EnglandWe're not talking about just any field in England either... we mean A Field in England. Sort of like the difference between blue berries and blueberries. Get it now? Oh, c'mon; it's only Tuesday. In any event read on for a new featurette!

    Synopsis
Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has acquired North American rights to original horror film A Field in England, the fourth feature film from writer/director Ben Wheatley. The film stars Reece Shearsmith ("The League of Gentlemen") and Kill List's Michael Smiley and features Julian Barrett ("The Mighty Boosh") in a small role.

Billed as "a psychedelic trip into magic and madness," A Field in England follows a group of English Civil War soldiers in the 17th century who are captured by an alchemist and led into a vast mushroom field, where they fall victim to violent and nightmarish forces.

A US theatrical and VOD release is planned for later this year.

Spend Your Last Summer in a State of Thai Terror; Hilarious Haunted Toilet Prank!A new Thai flick is on its way called Last Summer, but in all honesty it's not really the movie that has us excited. It's this viral haunted restroom gag in promotion of it that has us grinning from ear-to-ear! Check it out along with the flick's trailer.

Directed by Saranyoo Jiralak, Last Summer (or Ruedoo ron nan chan tai for you purists out there) stars Jirayu La-ongmanee and Sutatta Udomsilp.

We haven't been able to find an official synopsis of the flick for you anywhere, and truth be told, anything we did find didn't make any sense so for now at least the trailer and the poster will have to speak for themselves. Be happy we managed to find them! There's no task too daunting as long as it boils down to toilet humor in the end.

    Speaking of which... enjoy!

Tesco Apologizes for Selling Coolest Coloring Book Ever - Colour Me Good, Arrggghhhh

Tesco Apologizes for Selling Coolest Coloring Book Ever - Colour Me Good, ArrggghhhhKnow your audience! British online sales giant Tesco was recently scolded for selling a controversial coloring book. Colour Me Good, Arrggghhhh was marketed as a children's coloring book but actually features images from classic horror films! Awesome!

With pages for children to color that feature things like Janet Leigh's classic Psycho shower scene, a Jaws-themed water skiing pic and the unforgettable "Heeeere's Johnny" scene from The Shining, among others, buyers quickly shit themselves when shopping for children's gifts. Okay, maybe it's not the perfect present for an elementary school child, but damn, I know I want one!

While looking for a birthday present for his seven-year-old grandson, Chris Tuckwood, 56, of Spondon, Derby, UK, discovered the book on Tesco.com and raised a stink. "It was advertised as being suitable for kids from five to eight – I don’t think so," Tuckwood said. "It is unbelievable that they can sell such a thing aimed at kids. I don’t think I have to say why it’s unsuitable; that much is obvious. Who on earth are they employing that thinks this is okay?" OMG! Relax, dude.

Tesco.com withdrew the book from sale, which they say was placed on their site by a third-party retailer. Whoops! Maybe somebody at Tesco should have recognized the cover image of the Psycho shower scene and could have realized this probably wasn't the best item for kids who are more familiar with "Spongebob Squarepants" than Psycho.

"We have very clear guidelines for third-party sellers who list items on our website and are sorry that on this occasion they weren’t followed," said a backpedaling Tesco spokesman. "We will be speaking with the seller to remind them of the importance of selecting the right category when listing products with us."

Now the answer to the question you've all been asking: Where the hell can I get my own copy of Colour Me Good, Arrggghhhh? The original seller, Prezzybox.com, still has a few copies left. Go get yours now! Prezzybox.com managing director Zak Edwards acknowledged the book "isn’t suitable for children" and said, "This mistake came to light in the national press, who rightly picked up upon this error. We apologize for this mistake and will work hard to ensure this doesn’t happen again." Ah, no worries, guys. It's all good.

Ubisoft Says NOPE To Zombi U Sequel

Ubisoft Says NOPE To Zombi U SequelIf you're a fan of Zombi U and were hoping for a sequel, I've got a bit of bad news. According to an interview with Games Industry, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said that because it failed (and then some) to make a profit, NO WAY there's a sequel.

Critics and fans alike have split down the middle on this Wii U exclusive survival horror game with a 77 score on MetaCritic (which basically means "Caveat emptor, mo'facka"). Combine that with dismal sales, and you've got quite a few things to consider.

In this case, it was "Let's dump that 'exclusivity' and make Rayman Legends multi-platform."

Guillemot said, "We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience. We hope (the Wii U) will take off. At the moment we've said, 'Let's do through Christmas and see where we are from there.'"

It's too bad, really; Zombi U was a decent game, but something in my head said this was gonna happen.

    Rest in Peace, man.

HORROR IS CHILD’S PLAY – DON MANCINI’S CURSE OF CHUCKY (WORLD PREMIERE)
A rarity among genre franchises, the CHILD’S PLAY series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades-long reign of horror. Mancini, who will be hosting our “scar-studded” world premiere, graduated to the director’s chair with 2004’s SEED OF CHUCKY, after having co-written or written every entry in the series. His longevity with the project is, of course, matched by the fiendish voiceover work by the incomparable Brad Dourif as Chucky, as well as the enduring input of producer David Kirschner (FRAILTY). For the new CURSE, SEED OF CHUCKY FX master Tony Gardner (ARMY OF DARKNESS, DARKMAN) brings the deadly doll back to life once more through ingenious puppeteering work. CURSE OF CHUCKY returns Chucky to the scarier roots of the series’ initial entries, going more for the jugular than the funnybone. World Premiere. Hosted by Writer / Director Don Mancini and select members of the cast.

GET READY, GET WILD FOR GATCHAMAN (INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE)
At last, after years of rumours and dashed hopes, it’s here - the live-action feature film based on Tatsuo Yoshida’s 1970s anime TV series SCIENCE NINJA TEAM GATCHAMAN… better known on these shores as BATTLE OF THE PLANETS! The brand new, big-screen GATCHAMAN is directed by Toya Sato (the GAMBLING APOCALYPSE KAIJI films) Written by Yusuke Watanabe (20TH CENTURY BOYS, GANTZ), boasts visual effects by Takashi Yamazaki (SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO) and features a cast that includes Tori Matsuzaka (a Super Sentai Series veteran), Go Ayano (CROWS ZERO 2, HELTER SKELTER) and Japanese It Girl du jour Ayame Gouriki. Don’t walk, don’t run —fly to Fantasia to catch the Japanese pop-fantasy classic revisited, screening here for the first time anywhere outside Japan!

FANTASIA TEAMS UP WITH JUST FOR LAUGHS TO SHOWCASE OUTDOOR PROJECTIONS OF SILENT COMEDY CLASSICS WITH LIVE MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT
For one night only, on the evening of July 22, Montreal cinephiles will have a rare chance to experience a trio of silent-era comedy masterpieces starring Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Laurel & Hardy, projected under the stars on a giant outdoor screen, with live piano accompaniment by the renowned composer Gabriel Thibaudeau. Among his many accomplishments, Thibaudeau has written, conducted and performed silent film score accompaniment at the Cannes Film Festival (in 1998, for Paul Leni’s THE MAN WHO LAUGHS) and the Toronto International Film Festival (in 2005, for Robert Flaherty’s NANOOK OF THE NORTH) and his work appears on numerous DVD and Blu-Ray releases of silent cinema classics. No stranger to the Fantasia universe, Thibaudeau wrote and conducted the orchestral accompaniment for our gala METROPOLIS and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA events. For this new event, which we’re calling LES ROIS DU RIRE (the Kings of Comedy), Thibaudeau will be live-scoring Charlie Chaplin’s THE IMMIGRANT (1919), Buster Keaton’s ONE WEEK (1920) and Leo McCarey’s LIBERTY (1929). This special event is a co-presentation between Fantasia and the Just For Laughs comedy festival, in collaboration with Archambault and the Cinémathèque québécoise. Screenings will take place on JFL’s Videotron Stage in the Quartier de Spectacles in downtown Montreal.

Screenwriter Kankuro Kudo (ZEBRAMAN, PING PONG) builds his story as a relentless escalation of cases to be tackled, and it is in their cumulative effect that THE APOLOGY KING succeeds, defying expectations of scale and thrusting the viewer into a complex, absurd and hilarious supra-case in need of more fixing than a simple apology can provide. Sharlto Copley Falls Into an Open GraveTalk about weird... Remember Apollo 18 from director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego? Yeah, I just referenced that flick in our review for Europa Report, which happened to sort of star Sharlto Copley. Now Copley has a new flick on its way with Lopez-Gallego at the helm called Open Grave.

The flick's been kicking around since 2012 and is just now seeing the light of day. Though no official synopsis is available yet, we do have the artwork, a still gallery, and the Italian trailer for you to dig on.

Open Grave centers on a man who wakes up in a remote wilderness with no memory in a pit full of dead bodies and must determine if the murderer is one of the strangers who rescued him, or if he himself is the killer. Thomas Kretschmann, Josie Ho, Joseph Morgan, Erin Richards, and Max Wrottesley also star.

Magnet Attracts The Last Days on MarsSome quick acquisition news has come in... The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired US distribution rights to Ruairi Robinson’s Cannes sci-fi The Last Days on Mars from Focus Features International.

    From the Press Release:
Sci-fi thriller THE LAST DAYS ON MARS, from Focus Features International, stars Liev Schreiber (Salt, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Elias Koteas (Shutter Island, Crash), Romola Garai (One Day, Atonement), Olivia Williams (An Education, The Sixth Sense), and Tom Cullen (Downtown Abbey). Produced by Michael Kuhn and Andrea Cornwell, THE LAST DAYS ON MARS is the feature film debut of Ruairi Robinson, an Academy Award-nominated director of several celebrated sci-fi short films and animations. Focus Features International handled worldwide sales on the film, which bowed in this year’s Director’s Fortnight selection at the Cannes International Film Festival, where Kenneth Turan of The Los Angeles Times called it “undeniably gripping.”

On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses, and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora.

“With a terrific ensemble cast and top-notch production values, THE LAST DAYS ON MARS is an exceedingly well-made and frightening science fiction film that will be a real pleasure for fans of the genre,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Ruairi Robinson is a talented director to watch—we’re very excited to be working with him on this film.”

Alison Thompson, Co-President of Focus Features International said: “After a successful Cannes premiere, we’re delighted to have Magnet on board. They are a perfect fit for the film, and we have no doubt they will do an excellent job of ensuring that US audiences embrace this exciting new filmmaker.”

Magnet is eying a release through its Ultra VOD program later this year.

Unbeknownst to Roscoe, he leads the demons to discover the portal for themselves. Once the demons pass through, a nightmarish foray of summoned monsters is unleashed. One demon possesses the minds and will of all whom she crosses, another transforms a man into a murderous beast, and the other summons an army of the dead to do his bidding!
