San Diego Comic-Con 2013: Predator 3D One of the Show's Must-See Attractions! So, it was announced a few days ago that Predator had been converted to 3D and will be hitting Blu-ray in December. However, what we didn't know was how friggin' cool the booth to promote the flick was gonna be! You HAVE to see this!

Set up like a jungle and complete with a "live" Predator for photo ops (rocking a killer suit made by a local San Diegan no less!), fans who stop by can pre-order the Blu-ray, which comes in the stunning Predator head package you see below with removable face mask. But that's not all...

If you so choose, you'll be sat down in front of a multi-camera deck that shoots photos of your head from many different angles. Once your image is captured, it's put through a computer, and just like that your visage appears on a head, complete with dangling spine, that the Predator is holding up like a trophy. If you dig it, you can order that, too, and you'll get your very own collectible Predator holding your head triumphantly!

Does it get any cooler? Check out images of the process below. Seriously, if you're at Comic-Con, this is nothing short of a MUST DO! Do not miss out!

While you wait, you can even sample the conversion, which by the way looks a lot better than you would think!

Look for Booth #3528 at the Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center!

Official Details
Nothing like it has ever been at Comic-Con before… Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing an iconic franchise to San Diego as PREDATOR hunts for prey on the convention floor.

In a first-of-its-kind activation at Comic-Con, fans can enter booth #3528 and have their photo taken with state of the art cameras courtesy of 3D Systems. Their image will then be used to make them the victim as a customized figurine is created using 3D Systems 3D printing technology that features the Predator alien holding the fan’s severed head!

The figurine is only available to fans that purchase the PREDATOR Blu-ray 3D, available exclusively for pre-order at Comic-Con and packaged in a limited edition Predator head for $129.99. Fans can also receive the figurine with the purchase of a “headless” Blu-ray 3D for $49.99.

Additionally fans will get a first look at the all-new 3D transfer of the film before it arrives on Blu-ray 3D later this year as they enter the jungle that is ruled by the ultimate warrior that came from another planet.

Attendees can also participate in the “Hunt the Predator” challenge. Fans who find the Predator, take a photo and upload it to their social networks with the official hashtag “#HUNTthePREDATOR” will be entered to receive a front of the line pass at the Predator 3D booth for an exclusive 3D printed figurine.

The PREDATOR Blu-ray 3D will be shipped to all those that pre-order at Comic-Con when it is officially released in December. The custom figurine will be shipped following the convention.

San Diego Comic-Con 2013: Gris Grimly Debuts Illustrated Frankenstein Book, T-Shirt, and More! We've been talking about Gris Grimly's eagerly awaited illustrated Frankenstein book for years now, but finally at this year's SDCC fans will be able to see it for themselves. He'll have limited copies available along with lots of other goodies.

Per Grimly's Newsletter:
With my new book Frankenstein coming out in August, I convinced my editor at HarperCollins to release a limited number of copies to sell at SDCC. Get this 200-illustrated-page magnum opus (that took me four years to complete) before anyone else. We have a limited number available for pre-release. Get them before they sell out. The first 100 books sold will come with a signed and numbered limited edition mini print- FREE! How killer is that!

I've also released three volumes of a DIY zine documenting the four-year process of creating Frankenstein. These punk-zine-inspired journals take you behind the mad man as I slaved away in the crypt. They include multiple photos, sketches, concept art, thought processes, frustrations, and other raw materials that are quite personal. A great companion to your new copy of Frankenstein.

Everybody loves buttons. That's why I created five new buttons based on the art, logos, and words from the book Frankenstein. Get one or get them all.

We will also be premiering a new shirt inspired by the book. "WE SHALL BE MONSTERS" is a quote taken from the monster's words in the story. Being a society of the misunderstood, we can proudly wear this shirt. Get it while you can at SDCC.

Elvira Returns to Knott's Scary Farm Haunt for 2013; Mazes and Attractions Announced! With SoCal competitor Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights having announced its first maze for 2013 (Evil Dead), Buena Park, California's Knott's Scary Farm has released the 411 on the park's 41st annual Haunt. Read on for the details!

Commencing September 26th and running on selected evenings through November 2nd, Knott's Scary Farm (Knott's Berry Farm, 8039 Beach Blvd., Buena Park, CA) will welcome the return of horror celebrity Elvira, Mistress of the Dark via her song, dance and comedy show "Evira's Sinema Séance."

Additional new attractions will include the magic-comedy show "Carny Trash" and the murder mystery "Possessed," along with Knott's Scary staples "Cursed,""Blood Drums" and "The Hanging," all of which will return. The biggest shake-up lies in their approach to the park's mazes, however.

Scaling down the number to twelve from thirteen (perhaps with an eye to increase the quality of each maze), this year the Haunt will also offer six all new attractions: "Forevermore" (which will feature a Gothic serial killer theme inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe), "Black Magic" (the ghost of Harry Houdini will conspire to scare park visitors), "The Gunslinger's Grave" (an Old West, undead gunman returns from the grave to exact his revenge), "Mirror Mirror" (steampunk meets a funhouse), "Trapped: The New Experiment" (the popular, puzzle-solving, reservation-only maze returns with an update) and "Dominion of the Damned" (which will presumably feature vampires, vampires, more vampires, and plenty of Gothic goodness).

Rounding out these mazes will be the return of "Endgames: Warriors of the Apocalypse,""Pinocchio Unstrung,""Trick-Or-Treat,""The Witch's Keep,""Uncle Willy's Slaugherhouse" and "Delirium." Further, Knott's Scary Farm will feature the scare zones "Village of the Damned,""Necropolis,""Carnevil" and "Ghost Town," all which will serve to keep visitors on their toes.

For more information and to purchase tickets (which are now on sale) visit the Knott's Scary Farm Haunt website, and for those in SoCal who may be interested in joining the Knott's team as a scare actor, auditions are being held Saturday, July 27th, from 2PM to 7PM. Read an Excerpt of Anne Rice's The Wolves of MidwinterIn October Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift Chronicles continue with The Wolves of Midwinter, and we have an excerpt from the book to share which reveals that along with werewolves, this latest chapter includes ghosts.

The novel arrives October 15th from Knopf.

Synopsis:
The tale of THE WOLF GIFT continues...

In Anne Rice’s surprising and compelling best-selling novel, the first of her strange and mythic imagining of the world of wolfen powers, readers were spellbound as Rice imagined a daring new world set against the wild and beckoning California coast. Now in her new novel, as lush and romantic in detail and atmosphere as it is sleek and steely in storytelling, Anne Rice brings us once again to the rugged coastline of Northern California, to the grand mansion at Nideck Point—to further explore the unearthly education of her transformed manwolf.

The novel opens on a cold, gray landscape. It is the beginning of December. Oak fires are burning in the stately flickering hearths of Nideck Point. It is Yuletide. For Reuben Golding, now infused with the wolf gift and under the loving tutelage of the Morphenkinder, this Christmas promises to be like no other... as he soon becomes aware that the Morphenkinder, steeped in their own rituals, are also celebrating the Midwinter Yuletide festival deep within Nideck forest.

From out of the shadows of the exquisite mansion comes a ghost—tormented, imploring, unable to speak yet able to embrace and desire with desperate affection... As Reuben finds himself caught up with the passions and yearnings of this spectral presence and the preparations for the Nideck town Christmas reach a fever pitch, astonishing secrets are revealed, secrets that tell of a strange netherworld, of spirits—centuries old—who possess their own fantastical ancient histories and taunt with their dark, magical powers...

Move into the US Trailer for Apartment 1303 3DApartment 1303 3D from Gravitas Ventures is one of the first indie titles to play in 3D in theatres and on Video on Demand simultaneously, and we have a look at the first clip from the film right here!

The flick will be hitting theaters and cable/internet VOD on July 25th and is currently available for pre-order and special pre-theatrical VOD on iTunes.

After Apartment 1303 3D opens, the filmmakers will be hosting a trivia contest where one lucky fan will win a very unique, one-of-a-kind 3D movie poster from the film, valued at over $500. To be eligible, you must "like" the Apartment 1303 3D Official Facebook page, where the details of the contest will be announced next week.

Written and directed by Michael Taverna and starring Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Rebecca De Mornay (Mother’s Day, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Corey Sevier (Immortals), and Julianne Michelle (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Apartment 1303 3D is based on a novel by Kei Ôishi and is a remake of the Japanese flick of the same name.

Synopsis
Having grown up under the controlling grip of her fame-hungry mother (De Mornay), Janet Slate (Michelle) jumps at the opportunity to move into what looks to be a great high-rise apartment in downtown Detroit. Yet, some deals are too good to be true as one night her boyfriend, Mark (Sevier), finds her in the middle of the street – having fallen from the balcony thirteen stories above.

When her sister, Lara (Barton), tries to investigate the mystery of what happened, she moves into the same apartment and encounters the odd neighbors in the building, including an eerie nine-year-old girl who seems to somehow know the real reason for Janet’s fall. Lara soon realizes that her sister’s death might spell the same fate for her unless she can overcome the strange events that are terrorizing the inhabitants in Apartment 1303.

Meet the Monsters in New Grabbers ClipNew a break from the Comic-Con coverage? So do we! This new Grabbers (review here) clip should fit the bill. Look for it July 19th on the IFC Midnight banner in select theaters and on cable VOD, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox Zune, PlayStation, SundanceNow.com and other digital VOD outlets.

Helmed by Jon Wright and penned by Kevin Lehane, the creature feature stars Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Ruth Bradley (Flyboys), and Russell Tovey ("Being Human" UK).

Synopsis:
Ciarán O’Shea, the handsome though washed up policeman of sleepy Erin Island, has a daily routine consisting mainly of hanging out at the pub with the local drunks and various other charmingly eccentric characters. But his day is about to go horribly wrong.

Teamed up with the unwanted help of Lisa – an uptight workaholic policewoman from the Irish mainland – they suddenly find themselves dealing with dead whales, decapitated fishermen and weird alien creatures or “grabbers”. Like a giant squid with tentacles, fanged jaws and a three-foot barbed tongue, they’re making mincemeat of the locals.

Faced with another imminent attack, O’Shea and Lisa figure out that the only person to survive the last onslaught only did so because he was so drunk his blood was literally toxic to the monsters. So there is only one thing for it: They have to get the entire village as drunk as possible in order to survive the night ... a task that the villagers apply themselves to with gusto.

But one person must remain sober so for the first time in years O’Shea has to face up to things without a drink. When things don’t go to plan, an extremely drunk Lisa and a very sober O’Shea have to reconcile their differences and somehow save the day.

Not So Super News for Chronicle 2Some really crappy superhero related news has hit the internet. Max Landis has announced via Twitter that he's no longer involved with Chronicle 2. Read on for details.

Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It’s a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings,” he stated. “They hired new writers on it. I’m sure they’ll announce soon. Just hope this answers the questions I’ve been getting everyday.

In the original film, directed by Josh Trank and written by Landis, three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny telekinetic powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control as their darker sides begin to take over. What starts out as fun and games quickly becomes dangerous and they must face the inevitable question of whether they can handle the responsibility that comes with their remarkable powers.

IDW Showcasing Mike Mignola's Hellboy in an Artist's Edition FormatIDW's Artist's Edition comics are prized among collectors, and fans of Mike Mignola's work will want to take note of this announcement that Hellboy himself is about to get the royal treatment.

From the Press Release:
Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, one of the best-loved comic creations of the past two decades, will be showcased in the acclaimed Artist’s Edition format from IDW! Mignola’s Hellboy, the star of comics and screen, will be a welcome addition to the rapidly growing Artist’s Edition library, IDW’s award-winning imprint. Featuring scans of original art in their rawest form, Artist’s Editions enable fans to experience the next best thing to owning a favorite artist’s originals.

”Since the beginning, I’ve been pretty much in awe of the Artist’s Edition series IDW has been doing,” said Mignola. “I’m thrilled (and actually a little honored) to have a Hellboy book appear in that series.”

The Artist's Edition will collect the first five issues of Hellboy in Hell, where, after making the ultimate sacrifice, Hellboy must confront what Hell has in store for him. Alone, he faces the demons of his past as Mignola reveals the dark secrets that could define Hellboy’s legacy. Additionally, several shorter works will be included in this volume.

“I can’t thank Mike enough for allowing us to do this book,” said Artist’s Editions editor Scott Dunbier. “His stories are classics, and it’s a joy to be able to pour over his art.”

Mignola’s enduring creation has established a devoted following through the Hellboy series and the related tie-ins B.P.R.D., Abe Sapien, and Lobster Johnson, all published by Dark Horse Comics. Hellboy has been adapted into two successful major motion pictures by director Guillermo Del Toro and three animated features. Mike Mignola and Hellboy are staples of modern comics, and IDW is ready to shake the Right Hand of Doom!

What is an Artist’s Edition?
An Artist's Edition presents complete stories with each page scanned from the actual original art. While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, art corrections, etc. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.
