The Girl in Room 2A Checks in on Home Video March 27th

0

The folks at Mondo Macabro dropped us a line to let us know that the 1973 film The Girl in Room 2A is finally getting an official DVD release on March 27th. If giallo is your thing, you won't want to miss this one!

From the Press Release:
Mondo Macabro is proud to present the official DVD release of The Girl in Room 2A, scrubbed and freshened up, with a sparkling anamorphic transfer from the film negative, new subtitles, and presented completely UNCUT and UNEDITED. This special release of the 1973 giallo classic also includes special extras to entice genre film lovers to add this special treat to their collections.

The Girl in Room 2A (1973, Italy, 84 min.), directed by American filmmaker William Rose (Rent-A-Girl), stars 1966's Miss Italy winner and popular genre actress Daniela Giordano (Evil Eye) as Margaret Bradley, a recently paroled young girl who moves into a boarding house run by a kindly older woman. Soon she is terrorized by both the house's creepy owner and mysterious red-hooded worshipers of Satan, or so she thinks. Upon further investigation she realizes that young, pretty girls are disappearing without a trace, and as Margaret continues to see one sado-masochistic, gory event after another, the sensitive yet voluptuous woman tries to tell her social worker (Rosalba Neri of Lady Frankenstein and French Sex Murders fame). But with no proof, combined with Margaret's nefarious past in prison, no one believes her; and soon the impressionable minx begins to wonder if everything she has been experiencing is just a figment of her possibly deranged imagination.

Also starring Raf Vallone (El Cid, The Godfather: Part III), Karin Schubert (Black Emanuelle), and Brad Harris (1983's Hercules), The Girl in Room 2A is a gleefully perverse, bodacious-worthy, spectacularly gory, and psychedelically strange addition to the bloody tradition of giallo horror.

Special Features
• Brand new transfer from original negative
• Presented in 1.66:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with brand new English subtitles
• Interview with actress Daniela Giordano
• Extensive production notes
• Mondo Macabro previews

Anne Rice Talks The Wolf Gift Sequel, What's Next for Her, and More

0
0

Anne Rice's The Wolf GiftAnne Rice's new novel The Wolf Gift hit bookstore shelves and online outlets today, and she recently sat down with NPR to discuss a possible sequel, the appeal of supernatural fiction, the struggle between good and evil, and what's next on her agenda. Read on for all of that and more!

When asked by "Weekend Edition" host Rachel Martin to explain who Reuben Golding, the man-wolf hero of The Wolf Gift, is exactly, Rice replied, "Well, Reuben is bitten by a werewolf, and he does contract werewolfism in the classical way. But when he goes through the transformation, it doesn't have anything to do with the full moon, and he enjoys the transformation. He likes the increased strength, the increased power, the sensuality, the heightened hearing, the ability to move through the night, to go up a wall and go over a rooftop - he loves all of that. I mean, I know when I was writing it, I loved it. I loved that idea that he could go climb over the rooftops above North Beach and listen and hear people everywhere talking and whispering. And he had even a heightened ability to see through the cloudy overcast night and see the stars beyond."

"This, to me, is one of the things I love exploring in fiction, period. I did it with the vampires. I did it with the witches in the Mayfair witches stories. I did it with Jesus, really, in the two novels I wrote about him. The way a hero sees the world, the way it impinges on him sensuously, the way he responds to the beauty of it - I love to write about that."

With regard to what she found interesting about writing through the perspective of a werewolf, Rice expounded, "He's a supernatural monster. He's a man who suddenly finds that he's not a man anymore. He's something different. He's something perhaps better, perhaps worse, definitely stronger, and maybe even immortal. I mean, one of the things that happens to Reuben is he discovers he's resilient, that a knife wound or a bullet wound isn't going to hurt him, that it heals almost instantly. And that's very beguiling, too."

"But, you know, I think the reason all of this works in fiction - when it works - is that these are all metaphors for things that are happening to all of us all the time. I mean, our bodies are mysteries to us. Life itself is a miracle. The fact that we're conscious, that we know we're going to die, that we can be witnesses to the universe... it's what we cope with every day as we think about life, as we take a breath, as we move forward, as we confront the death of a loved one. And the great thing about supernatural fiction is you're talking about those very things in a metaphorical way. You're writing about a vampire, yes, or you're writing about a werewolf, but you're really just writing about human beings."

As for how The Wolf Gift reflects her current understanding of the struggle between good and evil, Rice said, "You know, I don't know if I have any understanding of the struggle. It's just ongoing. But it pops up in all my work. I mean, all the characters are always talking about good and evil and where they belong in things because it obsesses me. It's one of those questions that I can't get away from. In The Wolf Gift Reuben can smell evil. He can actually pick up the scent of somebody, you know, attacking someone else. He can even smell innocence, and he's very puzzled about why that is, why he feels such an urge to intervene on the side of good. And so there again I'm dealing with a hero that's potentially evil but has a great capacity for good, which is just what I thought I was dealing with with the vampires. And he's tormented about how to use his power. And I think what he shares with the vampire characters and the witches is a sense of being alone, of having to work this out alone. Because I think that's what I feel very strongly right now, that I have to work out questions of good and evil, God or the devil, eternal life or mortality. I have to work that out alone, and I think that's what a lot of people today feel."

Finally, the issue of where her ideas come from and how she prioritizes them was raised. Rice offered, "I'll have a whole bunch of ideas. It's like zombies on the porch trying to get in the door. And finally one zombie makes it inside and the other zombies have to go away for a while." And has a sequel to The Wolf Gift made it inside yet? "Oh, I want to do a sequel, but first I want to do another supernatural novel. And I don't want to say too much about it because it's, you know, all those zombies are really on the porch and they're banging on the door. But one zombie is getting through the door. And I'm going out on tour for The Wolf Gift (click here for more info on that), but as soon as I get back, I do want to get to work on this new supernatural novel."

Now THAT is some very exciting news for the fans. As soon as word comes as to what exactly this "new supernatural novel" might be about, you can be sure we'll pass it on. In the meantime hit up the NPR link at the bottom of the page for the full interview, and look for our review of The Wolf Gift soon. For more info be sure to "like" Anne Rice on Facebook.

Brian Taylor Strikes Out on His Own for Twisted Metal Film Adaptation

Brian Taylor Strikes Out on His Own for Twisted Metal Film AdaptationThey say timing is everything, and with the newest version of the Twisted Metal video game hitting the market today, what better time to announce a film adaptation of it? Read on for the details.

Deadline got the scoop that Sony Pictures has made a preemptive 7-figure deal for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor to write and direct a live action adaptation of the iconic Twisted Metal. Ghost Rider’s Avi and Ari Arad are producing the adaptation. This will be the first project that Taylor is doing solo without his Crank/Ghost Rider partner Mark Neveldine.

Like the game, the film will revolve around an underground event that pits a number of combatants in a fight to the death. They are outfitted in armored weaponized cars that are pimped out with heavy weaponry that includes missiles and machine guns. Some drop mines or launch electrical charges. The proprietor of the race is Calypso, a string-puller dedicating to examining the human condition, such as what makes a peaceful man violent, what terrifies a violent man and who will make a Faustian bargain in which they risk their lives. The sole survivor will get any wish granted.

Deadline was told that the film will include such signature contestant characters as Sweet Tooth, a homicidal clown who drives an ice cream truck, and Doll Face, a young woman who is trapped behind a porcelain mask and who drives an 18-wheeler.

Hannibal Given a 13-Episode Order from NBC

Hannibal Given a 13-Episode Order from NBCNow this is interesting. Without any word of casting, which you'd think would be pretty critical for a series like this, NBC has given a 13-episode order to "Hannibal" from Gaumont International Television, written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller and executive produced by Martha DeLaurentiis.

Per Deadline the project is described as a contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. The project was bought by NBC preemptively in November with a script against a 13-episode commitment, meaning that the project wouldn’t go through a pilot stage but straight to series if NBC brass liked the script. The network had a short window after receiving Fuller’s script to pick up the series, which it just did.

GIT, launched in September with Katie O’Connell as CEO, is the company that placed a 13-episode order at Netflix for Hemlock Grove, a thriller/horror series executive produced and directed by Eli Roth.

Look for more on both soon!

Zak Bagans Talks Ghost Adventures - Part 2: Entering Hell's Gate - Bobby Mackey's Music World

0

In anticipation of Season 6 of Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures", we continue our in-depth interview with frontman Zak Bagans (read Part One here). In this installment we go back to one of the crew's most challenging haunts, Bobby Mackey's Music World (Season 1, Episode 1; Season 4, Episode 3), to talk about how it affected them.

Zak Bagans Talks Ghost Adventures - Part 2: Entering Hell's Gate - Bobby Mackey's Music World

"When we went to Bobby Mackey's in Season 1, I was a idiot," says Bagans, candidly reflecting on the horrors that followed. "I didn’t understand too much of this yet. Let me be honest with you... we’ve grown a lot since then, and when we went there, I did something really stupid. What happened there didn’t really have an effect on me when I left. It wasn’t until we went back there for an event where we invited a hundred people back to join us on a hunt. Obviously since we are experiencing these activities and we know how real it is to us, we wanted people to see these things happening. To experience them with us in the moment so that they could draw their own conclusions. You watch things like this on television and you think it's nothing more than just entertainment bullshit. That's why we figured we should start doing these live events inviting people to see for themselves."

Bagans continues, "When we went back there for the event, that is when this place let us know, 'You screwed with us; now it’s time for you to realize that we’re going to screw with you.' I’ve never experienced anything like that. Our first investigation tripped me out, but it didn’t have an emotional effect on me. It was more in the moment stuff. When we went back there, it affected everybody. It affected our guests. The only way to describe it... it was like we were all trapped in a horror movie. There were things that started happening that just shocked everyone. That’s why we did a return episode and brought some of those people back to talk about what had happened to them. I had never heard of the Spirit Box until then, when Dave Schrader used it that night. Little things started happening at first. When we were downstairs in the basement, Nick and Dave and a bunch of people were upstairs and they captured my voice crystal clear saying, 'Guys be careful!' When they came down and played my voice, it was clearly me. I'm still processing that. Soon after [name omitted] and her little girl came through loud and clear with her daughter pleading, 'Mommy, mommy help!' It was surreal. Later we were down in the basement and me and Aaron were just standing there, and it started talking about me. It started saying, 'Zak', 'your dad', 'Z man' - My dad calls me 'Z man' and there's no way anyone could have known that except those closest to me. From there it went to Aaron and it started saying a bunch of shit to him about his marriage. It started poking fun at him. We thought that this was going to be a regular event. That it was gonna be fun. Once all this shit started happening... it was kind of like you’re at a party, you’re having fun, people are starting to poke jokes at ya, it’s like a Comedy Central roast, ya know? You’re laughing. But then after about ten minutes it’s like, 'Okay, holy shit, this is starting to get really creepy. Something’s not right here.' That’s when Aaron collapsed, rushed out, and went to a little closet upstairs and started crying the hardest I’ve ever seen him cry. I knew something was wrong. When he went up there, myself and Matt Coates, the 250-pound bodyguard/head of security, went upstairs to where Bishop James was. Matt and I weren't feeling like ourselves. We wanted to basically murder and kill everybody in that place. We both just wanted to kill everyone who we saw and rip their hearts out."

"That's when I realized that what was happening to us was real. That these spots are real. That demonic attachment is real. These demons were screwing with us emotionally. I already knew that from the first trip we had to Mackey's... from what occurred and what we captured. When this happened with Matt and I," Zak paused, choosing his words carefully while deep in thought, "this was different. We went upstairs and the Bishop took us to a back room where he had this oil and holy water. He put holy water on my forehead and I had to go rinse it off in the bathroom because I thought he put muriatic acid on my friggin' head. He put a medallion over Matt, and Matt couldn’t even hold the medallion to his chest because it was burning so bad. At one point I had gone down into the basement again with a girl named Nancy, who I had never met before. We were down there investigating before any of this stuff had happened. She and I both saw this... this thing. And... it... it..." Zak laughs nervously while pausing. "This thing shot out of this dressing room and it ran towards the back wall. What was cool was me and her both saw the same thing. This 'thing' was ducking its head. It didn’t look human. It was ducking its head and it looked at us with these huge bright amber eyes. It just glided across the floor into the darkness. After that me and her both froze. I looked at her, she looked at me, and I said, 'Don’t tell me. What the hell did you just see?' to which she answered, 'I just saw this thing running, covering its head up, with reddish eyes.' At that point we backed up. We backed up and started taking some deep breaths, and we were like, 'Holy shit.' Those were just some of the things that happened during the event. After that it was just fury unleashed. [Name omitted], a good friend of ours went home for three weeks, he had a demonic attachment. Another friend, [name omitted], had things happen to her. The list just started going on and on. I could count ’em all! So many people had really bad things happen to them."

Zak Bagans Talks Ghost Adventures - Part 2: Entering Hell's Gate - Bobby Mackey's Music World

Zak wouldn't be left out of the chaos, though, as whatever was at Bobby Mackey's was more than happy to make him a target as well. "Things then started happening at my house. When I got back from the event, I headed immediately back to my apartment. I was dating this girl, [name omitted]. "It was three days later, and I just didn’t feel like myself. I still wanted to kill people. One night we were sleeping in my bed where this rosary was... I woke up in the middle of the night and I saw all these black shadow figures in my room. I scooped her up and we got out of there as fast as we could. After that everything changed. Over the course of the next three years about 14-16 friends of mine, all female, have been attacked in my house, and about 80% of them knew nothing about me or the show."

The terrors didn't stop there, however...

"The most profound thing happened when I got dragged out of bed by my ankles a couple months ago. Ever since then I've slept downstairs in a little tiny guest bedroom at my house with the door locked. I will never sleep up there again. I know it’s all from Bobby Mackey’s. When we went back there to do the return episode (Season 4, Episode 3), we started revealing shit to each other and we started realizing how weird it was that Bobby Mackey is the only one who’s never been attacked. He’s the one that still doesn’t believe that this is happening. Yet, his own wife, who is now deceased, would never step foot in there. She would never go in there because of getting pushed down the stairs. Carl Lawson, the guy who was possessed there, just passed away. Bobby’s best friend just passed away. I’m not saying that any of these deaths are related to the haunting, but you gotta look at everything that has gone on. It’s a movie. It’s a real life movie. He is like the guy from From Dusk Till Dawn at the Titty Twister that allows people to go into his bar and for these evil things to feed off of. He’s the only bar owner I know of that was ever sued by a patron of his establishment because he was attacked by ghosts. The plaintiff won his case, too."

Zak Bagans Talks Ghost Adventures - Part 2: Entering Hell's Gate - Bobby Mackey's Music World

So would Zak and the crew ever head back to Bobby Mackey's Music World? "I don’t ever want to go back there because I’ve been dealing with a lot of health problems and a lot of bullshit ever since we visited there. They get you in different ways, man. I've been freaked out because of that. It hasn’t been that fun and I’m just done with that place. That's why you’ll see... you’ll notice in the new seasons and stuff I don’t really taunt that much anymore, if I do at all. I’m not going to lie to you; to this very day I am a little freaked out. I learned my lesson."

"There’s some things that you just can't fight," Bagans continues. There’s some things that your little tight t-shirt and muscles can't fight. That’s one of them, and it's forced me now to look at higher powers. Once I saw that holy water helped on my forehead... it changes your perspective a bit. It also helped me when I was in Italy (Season 3, Episode 3: "Poveglia Island"). When I felt that burning, I knew that that was real. I knew that the power of that is real against it. Now I’m not a super religious guy, I don’t go to church every Sunday, I don’t raise my hands up in the air and sing and shit. But when I see that this actually works? You have to believe in it because muscles, guns, weapons, that ain't gonna fight these things. You gotta see what works and I’ve seen what works. I’m still fighting them. I’ve seen my best friend Aaron be victimized so severely to the point where I became beyond concerned. That was incredibly scary. It hit him hard. That wasn’t a fun time, and I knew that something bad was having an effect on us and it stemmed from that place. I hope everything is okay now, but really, I’m done with everything concerning that place. People watch this shit on TV as it is perceived to be entertainment, but this show is about our lives, it’s about our passion. We didn’t audition for this show, we’re not actors. What we do is very emotional, it’s very real, and we're very passionate about it. That’s why we like inviting people in to witness these events. Some people that have jobs that are risky but they love their jobs. Look at folks like Dale Earnhardt... he and others like him face potentially fatal risks every time they do their job, but they still do it. Once I’ve seen what this can do and what this can open up, I’ve kind of accepted that. It’s deep, man; it’s deeper than most people think. You just gotta get out there and witness it for yourself, but I’m not gonna bring people like that back to a place where they are in jeopardy or harm. I have kind of taken responsibility for that event."

"As a human being you don’t want to believe what scientists haven’t told you is true," says Bagans. "You want to reject it. You don’t want to believe in it, your body doesn’t want to believe in it because they haven’t proven it. However, when you do experience it... everything changes. Everything. The way that you look at things, your family, life, moments of just happiness, people you meet, every laugh. It’s not a depressing job, but you just see how precious life is and how short it is, and you just want to make the best of it. Make an impression. That’s why you want to search for the afterlife, because death is a scary thing and it’s very serious. Me doing this has overcome my fear of death because I know something else is after this. Not everybody believes in that, and I don’t give a shit. We love our lives and we love our fans, and that’s the most important thing."

Look for the final part of our interview in the coming days. In it we'll be discussing what's next for Zak and the "Ghost Adventures" crew, and Zak will be answering some fan questions we got from Twitter. Stay tuned.

Bloody First Images From Aftershock

A handful of new images made their way online for out regarding Aftershock, a film we've been talking about for quite a few months now here on Dread Central. Dig on the goodies right here.

Aftershock, an earthquake thriller scripted by Cabin Fever and Hostel's Eli Roth, Nicolas Lopez, and Guillermo Amoedo revolves around an insane asylum on an island, where the inmates escape during the quake.

It’s the next "Eli Roth Presents" film, and it marks the English-language debut from director Nicolas Lopez. His last two films, Que Pena Tu Vida and Que Pena Tu Boda, were the highest-grossing Chilean films of 2010 and 2011. Roth most recently produced The Last Exorcism, a microbudget film that grossed $70 million worldwide.

Roth and Lopez wrote the story together, inspired by the latter’s experience when an earthquake devastated Chile in 2010. The film is four weeks into production in Chile. In his first big acting role since Inglourious Basterds, Roth plays the lead. Among the other cast is Selena Gomez, who was in Chile doing a concert and came over to do a cameo. Lopez’s frequent collaborators Ariel Levy, Nicolas Martinez, and Lorenza Izzo also star along with Natasha Yarovenko, Andrea Osvart, and Miguel Asensio.

Exclusive: Patrick Melton Talks a Black Light film, The Collection, Piranha 3DD and Rise!

0
0

This writer caught up with prolific horror screenwriter Patrick Melton (the man behind such frightful fare – along with cohort Marcus Dunstan – as the Feast series, Saw IV through 3D and The Collector) last week to chat about The Collection, Black Light, Piranha 3DD, his new project Rise and more. Read on!

The Collection is in the final stages of post production,” said the thirty-six year-old Illinois transplant of post-production on the flick, which he co-wrote with director Marcus Dunstan and which has been snapped up for distribution by Liddell Entertainment, who distributed its predecessor The Collector. “We tested the film about a month or so ago in Chatsworth, CA and it tested wonderfully. Actually, it was the highest testing movie we've written. So, we were very pleased with that. As a result, the picture is locked and we're putting on the spit and polish. Charlie Clouser of Saw fame is composing the score as we speak. He's doing an amazing job. As for a release date, the plan is for theaters this fall.

On Piranha 3DD, a film directed by Feast series captain John Gulager which stars Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Danielle Panabaker and Ving Rhames, “The status is the same,” Melton said of the flick, which he also co-wrote with Dunstan. “The aim is for a spring release, but Dimension has to figure out the exact date. As I've said, it's a great spring break movie, so somewhere in March or April would be ideal. There are also a couple of dates in May that might be good for counter-programming, but it's up to the marketing folks at Dimension at this point. It tested really well and everyone is very happy with it, so we'll have to see on the release.”

As for his novel Black Light, which he co-wrote with Dunstan as well as novelist Stephen Romano and which was released via Mulholland Books last October, “The response to it has been very good,” said Melton. “We got some nice reviews. The paperback is coming out soon, I believe and we just started working with (producer) Mike De Luca on the film adaptation. That’s in the very early stages, though, but we are very excited that we're moving forward.”

We additionally queried him on the possibility of a literary follow-up to the tome (which revolves around Buck Callahan, a private investigator whose unique gifts place him in demand for those looking for quick solutions to supernatural problems) and Melton replied of that, “Not sure, but we’ve talked about it. Our collaborator (Romano) is finishing up on his first solo novel. It's called Resurrection Express, and it’s pretty awesome stuff. That's coming out later this year.

As for the future of the Saw series, “Well, I think when any movie makes close to 140 million on a 17 million investment that there will always be rumblings,” answered the writer of future cinematic installments. “But everyone was pretty worn out after seven films in seven years, so at this point, I haven't heard anything concrete. We had a good run. Perhaps Jigsaw will rise again in the near future. I don't know.”

Regarding other genre endeavors Melton stated, “There are a few larger scale projects Marcus and I have been working on. First is (a film called) Rise, which is at Warner Brothers. It'll be directed by a young director named David Karlak. We collaborated with him on a short film called The Candidate which got some attention and which will be online soon. The feature Rise is a sci-fi project, though I don't want to say too much since there are some competing projects around town. We're working on some other cool things too, but it'd be premature to mention them at this point. I should have some announcements soon!

Johnny Whitworth Talks About Being Blackout in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

0
0

As movie fans, we all know the hero is only as good as the bad guys he fights and Ghost Rider has certainly faced some tough ones, with The Devil himself being Johnny Blaze's main adversary. Johnny Whitworth sat down with Dread Central to talk about his role as Ghost Rider's nemesis, Blackout.

Whitworth begins as Ray Carrigan, who then goes through a transformation to become the nefarious Blackout. "He's possessed with this demon, this Spirit of Decay, that enhances Ray Carrigan from a bad guy to a fucking horrible guy," Whitworth said. "Ultimately he wanted to be something greater than Ghost Rider. He's Ray, but there's a huge evolution. He's a full-fledged masochistic psychopath when before (the transformation) he just did what had to be done. Now it's not what had to be done but what can I do?"

The "CSI: Miami" actor is a big fan of the superhero genre. "I liked watching Adam West's "Batman" and "SuperFriends" more than reading the comics," Whitworth said. "But I find the genre really cool."

Viewers of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be treated to some unique and impressive kill scenes involving Blackout. "He's like a mix between a spider monkey and a spider," Whitworth said. "I had a visualization of a spider enveloping something. It just jumped down and grabbed its prey. Something I saw on National Geographic. That was the vision I saw when the directors said 'you're popping in and out here, taking out this guy, taking out that guy.' Generally I wanted to just have fun with it."

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, starring Nicholas Cage, Johnny Whitworth, Ciaran Hinds, Fergus Riordon, Idris Elba, Violante Placido and Christopher Lambert, opens everywhere this Friday, February 17th.

Knopf Books will contact the winners directly for their mailing addresses and send out the broadsides on or around February 27, 2012. Check out the artwork below, and for more details click the above link.

Synopsis:
A daring new departure and a whole new world — modern, sleek, high-tech, and at its center, a story as old and compelling as history — the making of a werewolf, re-imagined and re-invented as only Anne Rice, teller of mesmerizing tales, conjurer extraordinaire of other realms, could create it.

The time is the present.

The place, the rugged coast of northern California. A bluff high above the Pacific. A grand mansion full of beauty and tantalizing history set against a towering redwood forest.

A young reporter on assignment from the San Francisco Observer... an older woman, welcoming him into her magnificent, historic family home that he has been sent to write about and that she must sell with some urgency... a chance encounter between two unlikely people... an idyllic night — shattered by horrific unimaginable violence... the young man inexplicably attacked — bitten — by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness... a violent episode that sets in motion a terrifying yet seductive transformation as the young man, caught between ecstasy and horror, between embracing who he is evolving into and fearing who — what — he will become, soon experiences the thrill of the wolf gift.

As he resists the paradoxical pleasure and enthrallment of his wolfen savagery and delights in the power and (surprising) capacity for good, he is caught up in a strange and dangerous rescue and is desperately hunted as “the Man Wolf” by authorities, the media, and scientists (evidence of DNA threatens to reveal his dual existence). As a new and profound love enfolds him, questions emerge that propel him deeper into his mysterious new world: questions of why and how he has been given this gift; of its true nature and the curious but satisfying pull towards goodness; of the profound realization that there are others like him who may be watching — guardian creatures who have existed throughout time and may possess ancient secrets and alchemical knowledge; and throughout it all, the search for salvation for a soul tormented by a new realm of temptations and the fraught, exhilarating journey still to come, of being and becoming, fully, both wolf and man.

Scary Movie 5 Moves to a New Date

Scary Movie 5 Moves to a New DateFor the ten or so of you out there who actually care, the fifth film in the lifeless Scary Movie franchise has gotten itself a new release date. We are sure you're all deeply saddened.

Dimension Films has bumped the flick from its originally announced premiere date of April 20, 2012, to a January 11, 2013, date. Even though they'll be missing out on all of the marijuana inspired in-jokes, we're sure that you can still count on a ton of sight gags, one-liners, celebrity cameos, and a rant from Foy once he sees it.

David Zucker has yet to go behind the camera. In fact, his involvement is still speculation, as is the casting of Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall, and Kevin Hart. When we know, you'll know.

Stay tuned.

The Addicted Find Footage in the UK

SURPRISE! There are more found footage frights on the way! This time the tale of a recovering addict inside a haunted house in the UK is ready to be told. Or discovered. Please lord, don't let this be another all in his head flick.

Director Sean J. Vincent explained it via his blog a while back and let his readers pick the artwork for the film, which you'll find below.

The Addicted, starring Jenny Gayner, is a "haunted house tale that revolves around recovering addicting David, a resident at The Manor rehabilitation unit in 1987, who comes under the twisted ‘care’ of clinical director Chris Hunter. Instead of nursing David to health, Hunter keeps him hooked before poisoning him with toxic heroin and leaving him horrifically scarred. Medical bastard. While the evil director is carrying on with his wife, David kills himself. Picking up 25 years later, Hunter's daughter, Nicole, an aspiring TV journo, makes the not entirely sensible decision to spend the night at the now derelict clinic, filming the place with her boyfriend."

First Look Inside The Seasoning House

Man, say what you want about this upcoming flick, but the title alone makes us damned hungry. If there were a restaurant named The Seasoning House, we'd be there in a heartbeat. Still, we'll be there for the movie as well.

From the Press Release
Written and directed by PAUL HYETT (award-winning special makeup FX designer for The Woman In Black, Dog Soldiers, Doomsday, Attack the Block, Eden Lake, Centurion, and more) and starring SEAN PERTWEE (Equilibrium, Doomsday, Mutant Chronicles, Devil’s Playground, 4.3.2.1.), ROSIE DAY (Black Books, Fallen Angel, Harley Street), ANNA WALTON (Hellboy II - The Golden Army, 5 Days of War, Mutant Chronicles, Crusoe), KEVIN HOWARTH (Gallowwalker, The Magnificent Eleven, The Last Horror Movie), and JEMMA POWELL (Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, The Symmetry Of Love). Produced by MICHAEL RILEY (Vampire Diary, Outlanders, Sugarhouse, Lava, In a Land of Plenty) of London-based Sterling Pictures.

THE SEASONING HOUSE is a stylish, claustrophobic, nightmarish neo-horror about Angel, a young Balkan girl forced to work in a rape house during an unspecified war. After killing a militiaman, she goes on the run.

Writer/director Hyett explains: “I like to think of the film as a cross between Pan’s Labyrinth, Martyrs, and Die Hard. It’s an uncompromising, action-packed, and claustrophobic revenge thriller set against the backdrop of an unspecified Balkan war. Having worked on so many films over the last few decades, I am totally comfortable with making the leap into directing. It feels like a natural progression for me. While the subject matter is dark, disturbing, and nihilistic, I’m approaching it in a very stylish, glossy, and beautiful fairytale way. The first half is an opiated dream; then the tone shifts as the young girl is dragged out of this darkness, the dream shattered, and a far edgier, fractured and realistic film emerges. I’ve been lucky enough to be working with friends from my previous work, including Sean (Pertwee, playing “Goran”, the brutal militia leader), Kevin (Howarth, playing “Viktor” the shifty proprietor of the eponymous establishment), Michael (Riley, producer), as well as some new friends such as the amazing Rosie Day, who plays “Angel”, the tiny young girl who makes her way around the house via the crawlspaces and spaces beneath the floorboards. Directing The Seasoning House is an enormous pleasure for me, and this will be the first of a series of films I will direct over the next few years”.

Producer Riley adds: “Paul has done prosthetics on many of my films over the last 15 years. His focus, preparation, and creative abilities, coupled with his vast experience on some of the best European films of recent years, convinced me he was ready to put on director’s shoes. On set he is calm, prepared, relaxed, and communicative. With a confidence born of years of experience and virtually ego-free, he commands the respect of the cast and crew so is the perfect director. I look forward to continuing this relationship into the future on subsequent horror/thrillers”.
