Eli Roth and David O. Russell Working on a Horror Film Together?

Eli Roth and David O. Russell Working on a Horror Film Together? After a six-year absence, Eli Roth returned in a big way this year with The Green Inferno, which gobbled up accolades on the festival circuit and is headed into theaters next year. What's next for the Splat Pack'er? A collaboration with David O. Russell perhaps?!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, O'Russell revealed that he wrote a horror screenplay that Roth has taken a liking to. “I wrote a couple of things that someone might make," he said. "Eli Roth may actually do one. Cause I had to write to support myself. So I wrote a horror for producer Colleen Camp, a horror film that I thought was interesting. And Eli thinks it's interesting, I think he’s going to make it more interesting… I don’t wanna say anything more; I’ll let Eli talk about it."

No word yet on how Roth will be involved in the project, but this has simply got to be considered exciting news, regardless of whether Roth ends up producing, starring, or directing.

New Images and a Few Clues of What's Ahead in American Horror Story: Coven Episode 3.07 - The Dead

New Images and a Few Clues of What's Ahead in American Horror Story: Coven Episode 3.07 - The DeadExec producer Ryan Murphy has stated that pretty much everyone in "American Horror Story: Coven" is "going dark," and here are some photos from the upcoming Episode 3.07, "The Dead," along with a few more comments from Murphy to get you ready for next week.

Speaking with EW, Murphy said of "The Dead,""[It] is a very meditative episode. It’s very much about Madison (Emma Roberts) and Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) and Kyle (Evan Peters). There’s a lot of great stuff about Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) and Marie Laveaux (Angela Bassett) and the unexpected friendship with LaLaurie (Kathy Bates). We dwell a lot on characters in that episode who are dead and are brought back and what their inner lives are and what their futures are."

As for Spalding (Denis O'Hare), "[O]bviously he’s crossed a line. He didn’t kill Madison, but what he did... defile[d] her body. So the girls find that out and have to take revenge on him. They have to make him pay for his dastardly necrophilia and bad fashion outfits."

And speaking of Madison, "[I]t’s sort of like she’s dead and she can’t feel anything so we’re really... making a leap and saying she’s a poster person for the millennial generation. Unsatisfied. Entitled. Nothing makes them happy. She’s been on the other side, and in her mind there’s nothing. So more than ever she really just realizes that the only way to exist is to satisfy all of your urges instantly. So she was deadly before, but now she’s even more deadly. Of course she has to get her revenge on Fiona."

"American Horror Story: Coven" Episode 3.07 - "The Dead" (airs 11/20/13)
Fiona (Jessica Lange) finds new purpose in a dangerous love affair. A night out with LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) leads Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) to question her place in the Coven. Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) makes a fateful decision about her mother.

Written by Brad Falchuk; directed by Bradley Buecker.

Robert Patrick and Others Sink Their Teeth Into From Dusk Till Dawn: The SeriesThe upcoming show "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" has just been injected with a whole lot of new talent, including Robert Patrick, who battled vamps in the film's first sequel. Read on to learn about all the new additions!

From the Press Release
On the heels of last week’s start of production in Austin, El Rey Network today announced the newest cast members of the highly anticipated "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series," premiering in Q1 2014 on the new English-language cable network.

Created in association with FactoryMade Ventures and created and executive produced by network founder and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, the supernatural crime saga (based on the cult classic film of the same name) will feature Robert Patrick (pictured; Terminator 2: Judgment Day, "The X-Files") as Jacob Fuller, Madison Davenport (Save Me, "Shameless") as Kate Fuller, Brandon Soo Hoo (Tropic Thunder, Ender’s Game) as Scott Fuller, and Eiza González ("Lola: Érase Una Vez") as Santánico Pandemonium.

The 10-episode serialized drama will serve as the first original scripted series to air on the new genre-busting cable network. El Rey Network will debut nationally in December 2013.

Eiza González recreates the role of Santánico Pandemonium, credited for launching Salma Hayek’s film career. Robert Patrick portrays Jacob Fuller, father to Kate Fuller (Davenport) and Scott Fuller (Soo Hoo), who are held hostage by main characters Seth and Richie Gecko and find themselves along for the ride of their life. They join previously announced D.J. Cotrona (Dear John, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who plays Seth Gecko; Zane Holtz (Holes, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Richie Gecko; Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera, "Sons of Anarchy"), who plays Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, a new character created for the series; and Don Johnson (Django Unchained, "Nash Bridges") who joins in a recurring role as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

Based on the thrill-ride film, “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller (Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories, and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

New Not Safe For Work Coyote Clip Will Have You Howling

New Not Safe For Work Coyote Clip Will Have You HowlingHere's a clip from an arthouse horror film that has been banned at some film festivals and has won awards at others in its first public screenings: controversial director Trevor Juenger's Coyote.

The film stars Bill Oberst, Jr., as an insomniac writer whose sleep-deprived hallucinations distort reality as paranoia drives him to extreme violence. The surreal shocker, which mixes arthouse and horror, is shopping for distribution, and it's first public screenings have elicited strong reaction.

Director Trevor Juenger tweeted last week from a festival, "Someone in the audience keeps yelling What Is This? and What Does It Mean? We're going to give him an aneurysm by film's end." Juenger says a college screening of Coyote was shut down mid-film by an administrator citing "<>extreme violence" while another public screening in the director's hometown of St. Louis had to be cancelled when the theater owner refused to run the film due to "extreme content."

The film's wins include Best Feature at the 2013 Unreal Film Festival in Memphis and three Feature Film Awards at Pollygrind Underground Film Festival 2013 in Las Vegas, including a Best Actor Award for Oberst.

Fans of the surreal and the extreme can decide for themselves once Coyote gets distribution. In the meantime, here's a clip that director Juenger says "may be my favorite sequence in the film," depicting the moments before Oberst's character snaps completely.

Robert Kirkman Talks Walking Dead Spin-OffGiven the immense popularity of "The Walking Dead," a spin-off series was only a matter of time. IGN caught up with creator Robert Kirkman, who shed a bit of light on what to expect once it arrives.

Kirkman - who is shepherding the spin-off along with fellow "The Walking Dead" executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert - confirmed that the new series will be set in a “different location” and feature “completely different people,” adding, “It definitely won’t be set in Georgia… It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.

In Season 4 of "The Walking Dead," we find Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the group fostering a thriving community in the safe haven of the prison. Sadly, in this brutal world happiness is short-lived, and walkers and outside threats are no match for danger brewing inside the fences. The group’s home and new way of life will be thoroughly tested, and their struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 4 also introduces several new characters including Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., "The Wire").

Two New Circus of the Dead One-Sheets Freed

Two New Circus of the Dead One-Sheets Freed A couple of bits of artwork for one of several new flicks featuring prolific genre actor Bill Oberst, Jr., entitled Circus of the Dead, have arrived; and they're here for your enjoyment without the peanuts and the screaming barkers.

Oberst describes his character, Papa Corn, as "a homicidal serial rapist with a taste for necrophilia whose day job happens to be as a circus clown. He and his highly disturbed fellow clowns use the circus as cover for some of the darkest and most graphic acts of violence I have ever seen in a script or on a set".

"The effects team, led by Marcus Koch and Matthew Ash, has been churning out corpses and body parts non-stop for the entire 5-week shoot," says Oberst. "We've sawed off heads, hands and tongues; stripped the skin off a living man's face; drooled clown slime on multiple females in varying states of undress and chased a stark naked woman through a parking garage with a real cattle prod. And believe me, that's the mild stuff. This is balls-out horror."

Director Billy Pon is planning a spring 2014 release. The film also stars Parrish Randall, Brad Potts, Chanel Ryan, Ryan Clapp, Rusty Edwards and Mike Williams. Oberst invites horror fans to support Circus of the Dead by giving it a "like"on IMDb.

Synopsis
A man becomes entangled in a deadly morality game when the circus comes to town and a sadistic clown forces him to examine the things in life he takes for granted in the most horrific ways.

Bloodsuckers Invade Found Footage with this Trailer for The Black Water Vampire

Bloodsuckers Invade Found Footage with this Trailer for The Black Water VampireBack in May we got our first look at Bill Oberst, Jr., in the found footage saga of The Black Water Vampire, and now, with Image Entertainment set to release the film in early 2014, a trailer has arrived. Check it out, and look for more soon.

Jesse Baget (Breathless, Cellmates) wrote and produced the film under his Ruthless Pictures banner. Evan Tramel directed. In addition to Bill Oberst, Jr., The Black Water Vampire stars Danielle Lozeau (The Eye, Legion), Andrea Monier (Elizabethtown, Are You Scared 2), Robin Steffen (The Lackey), and Anthony Fanelli.

The Black Water Vampire follows a documentary film crew as they investigate a series of brutal killings known as the Black Water Murders. As they delve deeper into the story, the crew stumbles upon a horrifying secret buried deep in the woods, a secret they might not survive.

Oberst was excited about portraying the alleged serial killer Raymond Banks in the film, “When Jesse asked me to play Raymond Banks, he sent along a link to one of the more disturbing pieces of real-life video I've ever seen for character inspiration; it was a clip of serial killer Aileen Wuornos on the day before her execution. That clip was a stroke of genius. It stayed with me. If my performance works, it will be because of Jesse's talent and his insistence on reality and nuance over cliche.”

Synopsis:
What sick-minded killer brutalized four women and left their blood-drained corpses by Black Water Creek? Andrea Adams (Monier) wants to know, and she's taking her film crew to find out the truth. What they find there can only be told by the footage left behind. Blood-wrenching, soul-shattering terror waits for those who dare enter these woods.

Todd Robbins and Teller's Play Dead Now Running in Los Angeles Through December 22

Todd Robbins and Teller's Play Dead Now Running in Los Angeles Through December 22The interactive stage production Play Dead, from magicians Teller and Todd Robbins, is now running at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse. You have a few more days to catch a preview, and then it's full steam ahead with regular performances through Sunday, December 22nd.

From the Press Release:
“We’re never so alive as when we’re scared to death,” posits Todd Robbins in the opening moments of Play Dead, now appearing in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse. Eight performances have been added through December 22. This evening of spine-chilling entertainment, a co-creation from the minds of magicians Teller, who directs, and Robbins, the main performer, conjures spirits of serial killers and mediums in a show that is macabre and merry.

The themes of death, darkness, and deception are explored in tales that are frightening, funny, erotic, and jaw-dropping. With creepy delight, Robbins uses sight, sound, and touch to raise a host of real life horrors including Albert Fish, a cannibalistic serial killer, and Margery the Boston Medium, whose nude séances raised the dead and evolved into orgies. Robbins performs a demon extracting surgery on a trusting audience member, an on-stage murder, and the tidy ingesting of a light bulb.

The stories and events of this interactive production contain some disturbing images, brief moments of nudity, and a great deal of fun. Audiences are surrounded by sights, sounds, and touches of the returning dead. Material may be inappropriate for the faint of heart – or those under 18.

Teller, the smaller, quieter half of renowned magic duo Penn & Teller, worked with Robbins to develop Play Dead, which was sparked from a desire to create a séance-based play. The show is an ode to the American spook show, a mid 20th century popular entertainment involving midnight shows, magicians, and manipulation of the senses all taking place in the dark.

Long Beach, California, native Robbins, a magician and illusionist, developed an early fascination with all things spooky and sordid. As a teenager he snuck friends into the Long Beach Municipal Cemetery, where he captivated them with macabre stories. Trained at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater, his interest in magic and carnivals brought him to Coney Island, where he held positions from sideshow performer to executive director. Todd appears on the DVD instructional series Modern Con Man including How to Scam Your Way to a Free Beer, Poker Night Scams and Cons, and Work Place Pranks; and he is the author of The Modern Con Man: How to Get Something for Nothing.

Play Dead was presented Off-Broadway in November 2010, where The Wall Street Journal called it a “funny, furious and wholly enthralling” and The New York Times proclaimed it as a “wild, wicked show.”

Relax! Neil deGrasse Tyson Explains Why We're Safe from a Zombie Apocalypse

Relax! Neil deGrasse Tyson Explains Why We're Safe from a Zombie ApocalypseMost of us who are fans of zombie-themed movies, comics, TV shows, etc., don't really believe such a scenario is possible, but the undead do provide plenty of food for thought and creative expression. So, just how scientifically feasible are they? Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson weighs in...

Appearing on the November 14th episode of "The Daily Show," Buzzkill of Science Tyson debunks the science behind zombies, citing laws of physics and physiology. As for the notion of shooting them in the head, he says phooey, "You cannot kill something that's already dead."

He talks of the perils of rigor mortis, if the dead would want to eat brains, why you can't spread the disease by biting, and space zombies, culminating with a haunting tale of the universe's eventual heat death.

Where was this guy on Halloween?

B-Sides: Celebratin’ Night of the Comet

B-Sides: Celebratin’ Night of the CometAs the world prepares to celebrate Shout Factory’s release of Night of the Comet on Blu-ray, now seems as good a time as any to celebrate one of the great b-movies of the Eighties by dipping into its soundtrack for a B-Sides.

Chris Farren’s ”Whole World Is Celebratin’” sets the stage for the doomsday to come in the cheeriest way possible. Night of the Comet opens with everyone in 1984 all excited about a super rare celestial event: Earth passing through the tail of a comet. The last time this happened was 65 million years ago… about the time the dinosaurs went extinct.

But people aren't interested in such disturbingly coincidental facts because, as the song explains, the whole world is celebratin'.

The next day valley girls Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney will be amongst all that remains of the human race after everyone that came out to watch the comet has turned either to dust or into crazed zombies.

Enough with the depressing side of the Night of the Comet; I want to celebrate, and this song makes me want to celebrate as only a mid-Eighties AOR ditty can. Break out the synthesizers and the leg warmers ‘cause the whole world is celebratin’.
