Preacher Feature Drawing Closer?Big news today for people who are looking forward to the much talked about adaptation of the brilliant Garth Ennis comic Preacher. It sounds as if things are cooking in a really big way. Read on for details.

According to Badass Digest, AMC has ordered a pilot based on the classic Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. For those not quite playing along, Preacher tells the tale of down-and-out Texas preacher (Jesse Custer) possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher, teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire, sets out on a journey across America to find God -- who apparently has abandoned his duties in heaven -- and hold him accountable for his negligence.

The site didn't know who exactly was behind the "Preacher" pilot but heard "the names are big and impressive."

But wait... there's more! One of those names may be Seth Rogen, who took to Twitter with the following tweets:

Stay tuned! More on "Preacher" soon.

Kevin Smith Offers a Look at the Creature in TuskGet ready to get even more curious about Kevin Smith's new film Tusk. Smith has shared another image from the Charlotte, North Carolina, set of his now-filming flick featuring Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) and Genesis Rodriguez. One that gives us a look at the monstrous happenings afoot.

Osment plays Teddy, whose best friend and podcast co-host (Justin Long) goes missing in the backwoods of Canada. He joins forces with his friend’s girlfriend (Genesis Rodriguez) to search for him.

Synopsis
Financier and production company DEMAREST FILMS (Machete Kills, A Most Wanted Man) is underwriting and producing visionary director Kevin Smith's next film, the audacious and utterly terrifying Tusk.

Tusk stars Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard, A Case of You) and cult favorite Michael Parks (Red State, Django Unchained). Smith directs from his own script, which evolved from Episode 259 of his long-running podcast with Scott Mosier, the award-winning SModcast. Tusk's horror story follows a podcaster who sets out to interview an eccentric, reclusive old seafarer, only to find himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer.

Demarest's Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson produce alongside Shannon McIntosh for Smith's SModcast Pictures banner. Demarest's David Greathouse and Jennifer Schwalbach are executive producers. SModCo's Jordan Monsanto and Chris Parkinson are associate producers.

Joe Dante Returns to Horror Comedy with Burying the Ex

Joe Dante Returns to Horror Comedy with Burying the ExJoe Dante made his return to horror in 2009 with The Hole, a fun family-friendly flick that I personally got a whole lot of enjoyment out of - no pun intended. Is there more horror on the way from the man who brought us Gremlins and The Howling? You betcha!

As reported by The Wrap, Dante is working on a horror comedy called Burying the Ex, which is being financed and produced by Voltage Pictures. Based on a short film of the same name, the Alan Trezza-penned script follows Max and Evelyn as their relationship takes a nose dive once they move in together.

Max discovers how controlling and manipulative Evelyn is, but he’s too scared to break up with her. When fate steps in and Evelyn dies in a freak accident, newly-single Max prepares to move on with Olivia. His romantic life becomes complicated when Evelyn rises from the grave and sets out to get her boyfriend back, even if that means turning him into one of the undead.

Anton Yelchin and Ashley Greene will star as Max and Evelyn, with Alexandra Daddario and Oliver Cooper also signed on. Production is scheduled to start today in Los Angeles.

Original Oldboy Returns to Theaters in South Korea

Original Oldboy Returns to Theaters in South KoreaThis year marks the ten-year anniversary of the original release of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy, one of my personal favorite movies of all time. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Oldboy gets the remake treatment on November 27th courtesy of Spike Lee, but those in South Korea will be able to experience the original back on the big screen one week prior.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the original Oldboy has been remastered and will be released across South Korean theaters on November 21st. The film's visuals have been revamped with color correction and elimination of scratches and dust. The editing and audios remain the same. "It's very old as it was made during the analog age," said the director. "I’ve wanted to make a digital version for a long time."

I don't know about you, but I'm thinking I'd rather travel to South Korea and watch the original than sit down at my local theater and watch the remake!

Top Twelve Finalists for The ABCs of Death 2 Announced and Now Available to Watch OnlineTime and money and a cast prevented me from making my own ABCs of Death 2 short (called “M is for Money”), but it didn’t stop hundreds of others from submitting their take on the letter “M” to the horror anthology produced by Ant Timpson, Tim League, and Magnet Releasing.

After combing through all the submissions, twelve finalists have finally been selected.

The competition’s twelve finalists, half of which were chosen via public vote and half by jury selection, are Dante Vescio and Rodrigo Gasparini’s “M is for Mailbox”, Summer Johnson’s “M is for Make Believe”, Steve Daniels’ “M is for Marauder”, Robert Boocheck’s “M is for Masticate”, Sean Tretta’s “M is for Matchmaker”, Wolfgang Matzl’s “M is for Meat”, BC Glassberg’s “M is for Mind Meld”, Álvaro Núñez’s “M is for Miracle”, Antonio Padovan’s “M is for Misdirection”, Mia'Kate Russell’s “M is for Muff”, Santi González’s “M is for Multiverse Apathy”, and Jason Koch and Clint Kelly’s “M is for Munging.”

Top Twelve Finalists for The ABCs of Death 2 Announced and Are Available to Watch Online541 films were submitted from over 40 countries, so to be counted among the final twelve must be an honor indeed. Along with Timpson and League, the jury consisted of Associate Producer Ted Geoghegan, Magnolia Pictures’ Matt Cowal, Entertainment Weekly Senior Writer Clark Collis, Horror-Movie-A-Day founder and Badass Digest contributor Brian Collins, author Grady Hendrix, and Fangoria Magazine Managing Editor Michael Gingold.

But it’s not over yet! The twelve finalists will be voted upon by the ABCs of Death 2's other attached directors, which include:

The winner will join the ranks of Lee Hardcastle, whose short film “T is for Toilet” won last year’s competition. “Being a part of the original ABCs OF DEATH was the proudest and most important moment of my life,” says Hardcastle, whose innovative stop-motion entry won the first film’s ‘Search for the 26th Director.’ “Winning the competition was a dream come true and got my video in front of all the right people. Fiona Dourif and Thomas Dekker Join Robert Englund for Fear ClinicIn 2009 FearNet launched “Fear Clinic,” a horror series starring Robert Englund as Dr. Andover, a fear doctor who induces hallucinations in patients dealing with crippling phobias using his “Fear Chamber.”

The series consisted of a mere five episodes, but now writer/director Robert Hall and writer Aaron Drane are bringing it to the big screen with a new crop of subjects, including Curse of Chucky's Fiona Dourif (pictured) and “Secret Circle” star Thomas Dekker.

Joining Englund, who will reprise his role as Dr. Andover, Dourif will play Sara Falls, a young woman who seeks the help of Dr. Andover after her phobias begin to reemerge. Dekker will play Blake Patton, a disabled man who survives a terrible tragedy and is subsequently brought to the clinic. Also cast is Cleopatra Coleman (Step Up: Revolution), who will play Sara’s best friend, Megan McAllister, who possesses a fear of spiders. Rounding out the cast will be Angelina Armani () and Kevin Gage (Heat).

Speaking of the film, Robert Hall said, “This is a whole different playing field. My new film has a much darker and surreal tone than the episodes, and I think fans will really appreciate the direction we’re going in.” Regarding the cast, he adds, “I’m terribly excited to get to collaborate with Fiona Dourif, who blows me away with her talent, and of course Thomas Dekker gets the best out of me when we’re on set and vice versa.

The film opens with a tragedy that launches five people into the public eye. Dr. Andover is enlisted to lend his expertise to help them overcome trauma-induced phobias. A year later terrifying ‘aftershocks’ rattle the survivors, leading to them to find their way back to the fear clinic seeking answers. As they line up for another turn in the chamber, Dr. Andover believes that something more sinister may be at work.

Fear Clinic begins filming next month for a Halloween 2014 release.

Locke & Key Adaptation Delayed Because of TV Pilot?

Locke & Key Adaptation Delayed Because of TV Pilot?Things can never just be easy, can they? In any event, the feature adaptation of the Joe Hill comic series Locke & Key may have hit a small TV-sized bump on its way to the big screen. Read on for details.

In an interview with MTV, writer Hill revealed that the adaptation has "been snared in an endless series of contractual negotiations. Universal took a long, long time to come through with an acceptable contract for myself and IDW. Now they're dealing with a bureaucracy as labyrinthine and implacable as their own: FOX TV. Uni wants to avoid spending $25 million on a movie and then have FOX steal their thunder by releasing a three-year-old pilot. FOX wants to see some coin on all the money they sank into the pilot in the first place. The lawyers all have to validate their salaries. That said, Alex and Bob are the two most tenacious people I've ever met, and if anyone can see 'Locke & Key' through the contractual maze and on into production, it's them. Of course all this could've been avoided if FOX had just made the series. I know I'm biased, but I kinda think they bet on the wrong ponies that season."

Said ponies were "Terra Nova,""Alcatraz," and "The Finder," all three of which were cancelled after a season.

New Tales From the Darkside Series Gets a New Name; More Details Revealed

New Tales From the Darkside Series Gets a New Name; More Details RevealedLast week we told you that The CW network had teamed with producers Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci and writer Joe Hill for "Tales From the Darkside," a reinvention of the 1980s horror/fantasy/thriller anthology series by George A. Romero. Today we have more.

In an interview with MTV, writer Joe Hill revealed that the show is just called "Darkside," and it really is a reinvention, not a reboot. "My feeling is, in the wake of shows like 'The X-Files' and 'Fringe,' the days when you could do a straightforward horror anthology are over," says Hill, who describes the new show as a "descendant, not a reanimation," adding that while he is writing the pilot, if the show does get picked up, he'll be more of a "curator" than a lead writer due to commitments writing novels.

"Darkside" will still draw on short stories for some of its structure and plots. Hill notes the creators have already discussed authors Neil Gaiman, Kelly Link, and C. Robert Cargill, though no official offers have gone out. "I would love if director Amanda Boyle could remake 'Pop Art' at the 22-minute length, but that's just an idle thought," Hill added, citing a short film made from one of Hill's own short stories.

Though the show is clearly still very much a work in progress, Hill says the 2014 premiering project will have 11 to 13 episodes, "unless the pilot sucks, in which case I would expect zero episodes."

An Enormous Film UpdateWe told you a few days ago about an upcoming adaptation of the Tim Daniel comic property Enormous with Trollhunter's André Øvredal attached in some capacity, and now we have a much clearer picture of the monstrous goings-on!

Variety reports that online entertainment player Machinima, whose audience is made up mostly of young males age 18-35, has paired with producer Adrian Askarieh to produce a 10-minute pilot based on Enormous, a graphic novel that revolves around a cataclysmic ecological event that creates massive beasts that overrun human civilization and puts mankind at the bottom of the food chain.

Askarieh’s Prime Universe Productions will produce the pilot for Machinima before turning it into a full-fledged series that can play on various digital platforms the company appears on, including the new Xbox One.

BenDavid Grabinski, who helmed the short Cost of Living, will direct the pilot whose concept is a blend of Cloverfield and The Walking Dead. Grabinski penned the script with Øvredal.

The project is in the midst of being cast, with a December shoot in L.A. being eyed.

    Synopsis
In the midst of a planetary battle for food and fuel, a vast ecological cataclysm spawns "the enormous," massive beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Humankind struggles to stave off extinction.

    Brittany Murphy and Husband Poisoned

Brittany Murphy and Husband PoisonedFile this one under really strange. Star Brittany Murphy passed away back in 2009. Several months later in 2010 her husband, Simon Monjack, died as well. Both causes of death were listed as natural - pneumonia and anemia. Now that doesn't seem to be the case.

According to The Wrap, Brittany Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, long suspected that she and her husband died not of natural causes, but of poisoning by someone out to kill them. Bertolotti sued to gain access to her hair samples and hired a private lab, the Carlson Company, to look for signs of poisoning.

It’s a bona fide report,” the lab’s general manager, Denny Seilheimer, told the site. “It was our client’s prerogative to release the report. That’s all I can tell you.” The lab found evidence she was poisoned — probably by “a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent,” according to the report, which was authorized by Seilheimer. The report found that Murphy’s body had dramatically elevated levels of aluminum, manganese, barium, and other metals.

LAPD spokesman Officer Cleon Joseph said it would be up to the coroner’s office whether to take further action. “Whatever the findings, if there was something to report, they would report it to us,” he said.

Murphy starred in several horror films during her short career including Cherry Falls, Deadline, and Sin City.
