Sony Sets a Date for Hotel Transylvania 2It wasn't long after last year's release of Hotel Transylvania that Sony announced plans to re-open the doors of the titular hotel, as the mad monster party proved to be a monster hit.

If you've been looking forward to returning to the land where animated monsters roam free, you'll be pleased to know that a date has been set and some art revealed!

Reported by Collider, Sony has set a September 25, 2015, release date for Hotel Transylvania 2, and they also unveiled a wee bit of a taste of what we can expect from the film. Actually, it's pretty much just an image from the first film with Hotel Transylvania 2 attached to it, but it's a start!

No word yet on which cast members will be reprising their voice roles or who will be directing. All we know for now is that the sequel will return to the hotel owned by Dracula, where monsters vacation when they need a break from humans.

Expect more soon!

Filmmakers Need Your Help to Feed the GodsThough the Bigfoot flick has already been completely shot, Feed the Gods needs to raise some additional funds before it can enter our lives. Today a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to do just that.

Check out the trailer and details below, and then head over to Kickstarter to learn more and help out if you're so inclined.

From the Press Release
Horror thriller Feed the Gods from Bleiberg Entertainment's Compound B and production company Random Bench (and recently acquired by XLrator Media for a U.S. release) unveils new key art and an exclusive trailer in tandem with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign aimed at raising completion monies for the low budget creature feature.

"Production is complete on Feed the Gods because our friends and colleagues believe in our creative team and in us," says producer Adrian Salpeter. "Launching Kickstarter gives us the chance to share this first trailer with the world while engaging new fans, friends, and the horror genre community in the movie-making process," adds producer Liz Levine.

The film, which stars Shawn Roberts (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Diary of the Dead), Tyler Johnston ("The Killing,""Supernatural"), Emily Tennant (Jennifer's Body), Britt Irvin (The Vow), and Aleks Paunovic (This Means War), follows the journey of two brothers in search of their long lost parents. The quest leads them to Tendale - a small mountain town that is home to a mythical Bigfoot-like creature with a "taste for tourists."

Production wrapped in October in Vancouver and surrounding areas. Braden Croft directed from his own script, and Random Bench's Liz Levin and Adrian Salpeter produced, all of whom worked together on last year's cult hit Hemorrhage. Bleiberg Entertainment's Ehud Bleiberg and Nicolas Donnermeyer executive produced with Roberts and Eduard Witzke.

Michael Jai White Is Android Cop - The Asylum's Future of Law Enforcement

Michael Jai White is Android Cop - The Asylum's Future of Law EnforcementHe’s fought to the death with Satan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Joker, and Richard Nixon. Now Michael Jai White braves The Asylum to star in their unimaginatively monikered mockbuster of the RoboCop remake: Android Cop.

I so hope there’s a scene where he yells, “Leave, bitches!”

Now you might be thinking that with a title like Android Cop and a release date not at all timed to coincide with the release of RoboCop, this is going to be an out-and-out rip-off about Michael Jai White getting turned into a cyborg policeman. You would be wrong. Despite its title this is one of those Asylum mockbusters that’s more thematic in nature than a plot-for-plot knock-off like they used to do in the old days. Reading the plot synopsis makes Android Cop sound less like a RoboCop rip-off and more like the premise of a 20-year-old PM Entertainment flick:

In this futuristic, action-packed thriller, a cop and his robotic partner enter the Zone, a forbidden section of the city inhabited by a disease-stricken populace. Together, they discover the real reason everyone is sick and attempt to stop the illness – with the help of the machine’s powerful technology and weaponry.

Why do I have a feeling this is going to somehow involve zombies?

Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3) and – here’s a name I bet you haven’t heard in a while - Kadeem Hardison (“A Different World”) co-star in this sci-fi action thriller from Sand Sharks director Mark Akins.

Android Cop arrives on DVD/Blu/VOD February 4th.

Lest you think The Asylum are done mockbustering for the month of February, on the 18th they’ll get a jump on the big screen disaster epic Pompeii with their own Apocalypse Pompeii.

Fox Expands the Sleepy Hollow Season Finale and Adjusts the Return Date of The FollowingAfter announcing that Season 2 of "The Following" would be airing in a special back-to-back two-night "event," Fox has now adjusted the show's return date to accommodate a special two-hour season finale of "Sleepy Hollow." Read on for the details.

From the Press Release:
Hit drama "SLEEPY HOLLOW" will culminate its must-be-seen-to-be-believed first season with a special two-hour season finale event Monday, January 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, changing the second season premiere of last season’s No. 1 new series,
"THE FOLLOWING." The acclaimed thriller starring Kevin Bacon will unveil a special preview Sunday, January 19, immediately after the "NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME" (live, 6:00 PM-CC ET), kicking off 15 heart-pounding weeks of uninterrupted episodes. The season premiere of "THE FOLLOWING" will now air Monday, January 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following an encore of the Season Two preview (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

In the first hour of the two-hour "SLEEPY HOLLOW" season finale event, “The Indispensable Man,” airing Monday, January 20 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) discover a massive secret buried within the pages of George Washington’s Bible and unearth the shocking true nature of the founding father’s death. Meanwhile, Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) makes a near-impossible decision for the sake of his beloved family that drastically changes his future. Then, in “Bad Blood” (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) the battle between good and evil comes to an explosive head – sacrifices must be made, worlds collide, loyalties are tested, and the town of Sleepy Hollow will never be the same – resulting in a haunting first season finale.

Created by Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon (X-Men: The Last Stand, Frost/Nixon) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), the special Season Two preview of "THE FOLLOWING," entitled “Resurrection” and airing Sunday, January 19, immediately after the "NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME" (live, 6:00 PM-CC ET), catches up with RYAN HARDY (Bacon) in the wake of a horrific new murder spree, which furthers his suspicion that JOE CARROLL’s (Purefoy) reign of terror is far from over. The series, which will have its season premiere on Monday, January 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) following an encore of the preview episode (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), also stars Shawn Ashmore (the X-Men franchise) and Valorie Curry (“Veronica Mars”), and joining the cast this season are Connie Nielsen (“Boss,” “Law & Order: SVU”), Jessica Stroup (“90210”), Sam Underwood (“Dexter”), and Tiffany Boone (Beautiful Creatures).

Mega Shark and Mecha Shark Collide (Repeatedly!) in this Epic Trailer

$

Mega Shark and Mecha Shark Collide Repeatedly in this Epic TrailerThe eight arms of a giant octopus could not stop him. The mighty jaws of Crocosaurus proved no match for him. If Mega Shark is The Asylum’s very own Godzilla, then it should come as no shock that the next logical step in this franchise would be Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark.

The battle between the ocean’s ultimate apex mega predator and his aquatic android doppelganger begins on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD January 28th.

FX guru Emile Edwin Smith directs from a script by Jose Prendes (The Haunting of Whaley House) as Elisabeth Rohm (“Angel”, “Law & Order”), Christopher Judge (“Stargate SG-1”, Age of Hobbits), and original Mega Shark heroine Debbie Gibson contend with the Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla of Asylum monsterdom.

Going by the trailer, the movie is either about the military building a giant robot Megalodon shark to kill the mega shark once and for all, or it’s the tale of a horny monster shark desperately trying to get laid only to constantly find itself getting cockblocked by a cyborg version of itself.

Most “versus” movies proclaim that two warring factions will collide, but rarely do they collide as literally as the Mega Shark and the Mecha Shark do just in the 70 seconds of this trailer alone.

MTV Adapting Popular Shannara Series with Jon Favreau and Smallville Co-Creators

MTV Adapting Popular Shannara Series with Jon Favreau and Smallville Co-CreatorsTerry Brooks' multi-installment Shannara series, estimated to be the highest-selling un-adapted fantasy book series in the world with Brooks considered to be the second-highest-selling living fantasy author, is heading to the small screen on a very unlikely channel...

Per THR's The Live Freed, MTV is teaming with Jon Favreau and "Smallville" co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar in a development deal that comes with a straight-to-series commitment, which means that should network execs like the script, the project would bypass the traditional pilot stage.

The Shannara series first started in 1977 with The Sword of Shannara and encompasses multiple trilogies and a prequel, totaling 25 books, with Brooks most recently publishing Witch Wraith in July. Another three are due to be published in 2014. And what living legend has sold more books? Only Harry Potter's J.K. Rowling. Not bad company to be in.

Shannara takes place thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. Should the project go to series, producers -- including Brooks, Favreau, Gough, Millar, and Dan Farah -- plan to base the first season on The Elfstones of Shannara. The second title in the series, published in 1982, spent 16 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and is credited with cementing the series in the fantasy world.

Favreau will direct and executive produce the project alongside Gough and Millar. The "Smallville" duo will write and executive produce if the project goes to series. Global developer, producer, and distributor Sonar ("Ring of Fire,""Neverland,""Alice") and Farah Films acquired the rights to Brooks' fantasy series in 2012 with the plan to recruit a showrunner and director before shopping the project to networks.

"This collaboration with MTV, combined with the amazing creative talent attached to this project, including our existing relationship with Terry Brooks and Dan Farah of Farah Films, gives us tremendous confidence that we have a potential hit property with appeal to audiences worldwide,"said Sonar CEO Stewart Till. "This deal also reflects Sonar's emerging strategy to become a leading supplier of groundbreaking series programming."

On the feature side, Warner Bros. picked up rights to the Shannara universe in 2007 for a film version, but they expired in 2010. With a scope as huge as this franchise has, it probably makes more sense to do a TV series anyway.

We'll keep you posted as things progress depending on how Dread-worthy this ends up being. In the meantime here are the synopses of the first three books, known as The Sword of Shannara Trilogy:

The Sword of Shannara
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

The Elfstones of Shannara
The magical Ellcrys tree is dying, loosening the spell that bars the Demons from enacting vengeance upon the land. Now Wil Ohmsford must guard the Elven girl Amberle on a perilous quest as she carries one of the Ellcrys’ seeds to a mysterious place where it can be quickened into a powerful new force. But dark on their trail comes the Reaper, most fearsome of all Demons, aiming to crush their mission at any cost.

The Wishsong of Shannara
An ancient Evil is stirring to new life, sending its ghastly Mord Wraiths to destroy Mankind. To win through the vile growth that protects this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford—for she alone holds the magic power of the wishsong. Reluctantly Brin joins the Druid on his dangerous journey. But a prophecy foretells doom, as Evil nurses its plans to trap the unsuspecting Brin into a fate far more horrible than death.

B-Sides: We've Got a Bad Case of Dr. Giggles

B-Sides: We've Got a Bad Case of Dr. GigglesThis town has a doctor, and his name is Rendell. Stay away from his house cause he's the doctor from Hell. He killed all his patients, every last one, and cut out their hearts... purely for fun. So if you're from Moorehigh and you get sick, fall on your knees and pray you die quick.

No, those aren’t the lyrics to this week’s featured B-Sides. Those are the verses to the nursery rhyme the writers of the slasher comedy Dr. Giggles came up with for kids in the movie to recite because, I guess, if Freddy Krueger can have a nursery rhyme about his evil deeds, then why not a psychopathic doctor with a nervous tick laugh who makes more bad doctor jokes in the course of 90 minutes than a Borscht Belt comic doing a stand-up routine in the Poconos?

Dr. Giggles is certainly an oddity in the world of horror cinema, that uniqueness being the reason it was a colossal flop in 1992. Many horror fans cited it as their worst of the year, only for it to go on to develop a small cult following. Released during an era when studios were looking to soften the blades of movie slashers with silliness and humor, the first film produced by Dark Horse Comics starred Darkman villain Larry Drake as a deranged doctor with an arsenal of gimmicky medical instruments of death and a never-ending string of bad doctor puns stalking a teenage heart patient played by future “Charmed” witch Holly Marie Combs.

If you’re going to make a movie about a mad doctor with an unhealthy obsession, what better song to retread for the film’s soundtrack than Robert Palmer’s 1978 hit “Bad Case of Lovin’ You (Doctor, Doctor)”? But the rights to the original song probably cost too much so instead British journeyman singer Paul Rodgers did a cover version. The song was the title track of the Dr. Giggles soundtrack. but it really sounds like the very epitome of a B-Side. Much like the movie, it’s not for anyone.

If you want to listen to the song, I suggest skipping the first 40 seconds of this video. It’s very annoying.

Look for it in theaters on July 2nd of next year. This move speaks volumes in regards to how confident they are about the movie, which they hope will scare up big time box office numbers, the way The Conjuring did this past summer. We shall see!

The film re-teams Clint Culpepper’s Sony-based company with The Exorcism of Emily Rose tandem of Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman. Munn plays the cop’s wife, who also has a tie to the case.

Screen Gems is hoping this will blossom into a franchise.
