NECA Reveals Everything It Can About Its 2012 Alien and Aliens Line

$

0

If you're an Alien fan, you had better sit down and collect yourself before checking out this story. We've seen some pretty cool stuff from NECA before, but this just might take the cake!

From NECA Online:
Xenomorphs have been around us for over 30 years now. Many iterations have taken this aggressive race to become icons of Horror, Suspense, and even Adventure, and as so, caused many folks with an acute taste to want these creatures in their collections.

NECA’s made several Alien action figures from almost all of the films in the franchise, including the most recent Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. This year we’re bringing even more figures, and we wanted to answer a few of your questions.

New Aliens Warrior Action Figure
From James Cameron’s Aliens film, we’re releasing an all new Warrior figure with removable limbs, fully articulated, and about 9″ tall.

The Two Colonial Marines
Aboard the warship Sulaco, Ripley is introduced to a team of Colonial Marines, one of which is Corporal Dwayne Hicks. This year we’ll bring Hicks to life, fully articulated, at about 7″ tall, along with another Colonial Marine, which we’re not yet ready to reveal the identity of.

You can expect the Warrior Aliens to have clean and battle damaged versions and both blue and brown highlights for variety when army building your hive.

1/4 Scale Original Alien Figure
From the 1979 original Ridley Scott film, we’re preparing a release of the 1/4 scale Alien figure. This is the classic Xeno, with the clear dome. Yes – a gorgeously gross Classic Alien that stands over 22 inches tall and is fully articulated.

We’ve done a Classic Alien 18-Inch Action Figure in the past, so expect improvements including the enormous figure packaged fully assembled, and this Xeno will have new and improved deco over the original release from 2008.

About The Alien Queen Action Figure
Hey, we love the Queen, too. She’s one of the scariest, meanest looking creatures in film history. But currently she’s only in our wishlists. There’s a slight possibility we’ll get to her in 2013, but there’s nothing confirmed yet. One of the reasons we’re not getting to the Queen this year is because…

A Prometheus Line Is Coming Up This Summer
We’re extremely excited about the upcoming film from Ridley Scott and have our hands full with a new line of figures. We’ll probably be able to show some Prometheus sculpts by the end of June.

Future For The Lines
We asked on Facebook and Google+ what fans wanted to know about the license, and a lot of the questions were about its continuity, if we’re doing a full set of Colonials, etc. Honestly, it all depends on how well sales go and what our production schedule permits. We are very excited to finally bring you Colonial Marines from Aliens, and we hope to bring you a Queen in 2013.

A Second Wrath of the Titans Trailer Rises from the Depths

To kick off your weekend, we have the second trailer for Jonathan Liebesman's Wrath of the Titans, and we're happy to report that it amps up the action seen in the previous trailer in just about every way possible!

Sam Worthington reprises his role as Perseus alongside Ralph Fiennes as Hades, Liam Neeson as Zeus, and Gemma Arterton as Io. Edgar Ramirez (as god of war Ares), Danny Huston (as god of the sea Poseidon), Bill Nighy (as the fallen god Hephaestus), Rosamund Pike (as Queen Andromeda), and Toby Kebbell (as Poseidon's demigod son Agenor) also star.

Look for Jonathan Liebesman's Wrath of the Titans in theatres on March 30th, 2012, from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. in, of course, 3D.

Synopsis
A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Movie-On-Demand Platform Prescreen Integrates with FacebookMovie fans never have enough ways to watch their favorites. Sure, we have plenty of options now, but we're always looking for more. Prescreen, an on-demand screening platform that launched last September, has announced an integration with Facebook, making it much more accessible.

Focusing on primarily indie films, many of which can only currently be seen at film festivals such as Sundance and SXSW, Prescreen now allows Facebook users to rent movies, view trailers, bookmark films and share their experiences with their Facebook friends. Your basic one-stop shopping for hard to find on-demand films.

As an example, Jeremiah Sayys' Of Silence, a film we've covered extensively here on Dread Central, is one of the first horror offerings on Prescreen (Click here for more info on that.)

“We are adding a new way to distribute long-form movies socially and couldn’t be more excited to partner with Facebook,” said Shawn Bercuson, founder and CEO of Prescreen, who is also one of the original Groupon execs. “People are influenced by friends and family recommendations and behaviors, and allowing Facebook users to see what others are watching online opens up a whole new world for movie discovery.”

For more visit the official Prescreen website, "like" Prescreen on Facebook, and follow Prescreen on Twitter (@prescreen).

Arachnophobes Beware! Eight-Legged Beasties Run Wild in Short Film Spider Danger! Is there anything creepier than a really good spider movie? Maybe finding a big spider in your bed is creepier, but we'd say spider movies rank right up there in the skin-crawling department. Andrea Ricca tapped into that fear for his new short film, Spider Danger, which we have in its entirety.

Spider Danger is basically a one-man show by Ricca. He wrote the film, shot it, starred in it, edited it and provided all the effects, including the 3D work and animation. The only thing Ricca didn’t do was compose the original score (that slacker!), which was done by Antonio DeLuise.

The short channels the creature features of the '50s, focusing on monsters from outer space terrorizing an unsuspecting spider lover.

For more from this one man filmmaking machine, visit the official Andra Ricca website. But for now scroll down and enjoy the film. Then drop a comment and let us know what you thought.

Release Date Shuffle: Sinister Steals The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's October Slot

Release Date Shuffle: Sinister Steals The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's October SlotTime to get out your pencils and erasers again, kids. Two films that are high on our radar are doing that ol' release date shuffle with Sinister taking over The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's newly vacated October 5th slot.

Since it's been awhile since we've heard anything new about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, it's not a huge surprise it's been pushed back a few months from its original October 2012 date to January 4, 2013. All the better to let things get even more rotten in the state of Texas! Besides, January is proving to be almost as popular for horror films as October anyway.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's original film, is being directed by John Luessenhop from a screenplay by Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms. Dan Yeager, John Dugan, Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario, Sue Rock, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Gunnar Hansen, Tobe Hooper, Paul Rae, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Ritchie Montgomery, Trey Songz, Marilyn Burns, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry and Richard Riehle star.

Sinister stars James Ransone, Ethan Hawke, and Juliet Rylance and is based on a script by director Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Hawke plays a journalist who travels with his family around the country to investigate gruesome murders he turns into books. After he moves his family into a house where another family was murdered, the journo discovers found footage that unveils horrifying clues beyond what caused the original tragedy.

Expect more on both films soon!

B-Sides: George Jefferson Has Ghost Fever

$

Sherman Hemsley decided after a decade starring as iconic loudmouth George Jefferson on “The Jeffersons” that it was time to take a shot at big screen superstardom. Not only did he star in and croon the theme song to the 1987 comedy Ghost Fever, he also funded the film out of his own pocket, eventually bankrupting him.

How could a family comedy about racist ghosts in a Southern plantation not have been a financial hit?

Sherman Hemsley had dual roles as one half of a bumbling police duo (along with original “Electric Company” player Luis Avalos) and as the ghost of his slave grandfather assisting him throughout the movie. You see, these two cops have been sent to serve an eviction notice to two beautiful sisters living in an old Atlanta antebellum home haunted by the ghost of its original crazy, slave-owning, racist owner. Hijinks ensure!

That Ghost Fever’s style of comedy felt like a very bad attempt to do 1930’s “Laurel & Hardy” style shtick in 1987 might have something to do with the screenwriter (Oscar Brodney) having been around 80 years old at the time and not having had a single writing credit to his name since 1971. It’s as if he or someone else just took a leftover politically incorrect slapstick comedy written back in the Forties and did some rewrites to tailor it to the Ghostbusters craze of the mid-Eighties.

Shot in 1985, Ghost Fever floundered for two whole years before finally being unceremoniously dumped into a handful of theaters and later onto home video. Its director was so unhappy with the finished film he insisted on an “Alan Smithee” credit. Sherman Hemsley lost the $3 million he personally invested, beginning his decade long road to financial ruin that ended with him declaring bankruptcy in 1999.

Hemsley also lent his vocal talents to his financial boondoggle singing the “Ghost Fever” theme song that plays out the end credits. Odds are most people who attempted to watch the film never made it far enough to actually hear Sherman Hemsley performing this lounge act worthy title track.

Money well spent.

Is Gone Already Almost Gone from the Box Office?

$
0
0

Is Gone Already Almost Gone from the Box Office?Do you realize that the current box office gross of tonight’s likely Best Picture Oscar winner The Artist is still less than how much money The Devil Inside took in just on its opening weekend?

Or that The Help is the only best picture nominee to make more money than Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked? At least they can all boast they’ve made far more money than Gone ever will.

If you’ve read my review of Gone, you already know how I felt about this latest Amanda Seyfried starring vehicle. Unfortunately for Miss Seyfried, this vehicle stalled out at 9th place. I speculated in my review that the film is destined for heavy rotation on the Lifetime Network sooner rather than later; looks like it’s going to be even sooner that I thought. The serial killer thriller flopped in a big way with only $5 million for its opening weekend. That makes Gone the lowest opening for a wide release movie thus far in 2012 and the biggest dud of Seyfried’s career, according to Box Office Mojo.

Miss Seyfried can drown her sorrows with Jennifer Aniston, whose new comedy Wanderlust also tanked, opening 8th with less than $2 million more than Gone.

Another film that’ll probably be gone from the box office soon in another week is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Dropping 60%, down to 7th place in its second week, the $8.8 million it took this weekend brings its total coffers up to around $36 million. That’s still far, far behind what its much maligned predecessor made back in 2007. The producers might have been better off just cutting their losses and letting the Ghost Rider rights slip back into Marvel/Disney’s possession because there sure doesn’t appear to be much mileage left in this particular Marvel movie property.

The Rock continues to cook with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Locked in at 3rd place with another $13 million for the weekend, whether or not Dwayne Johnson will return for another sequel remains to be seen, but I think it’s safe to assume that another installment of putting a 3D spin on one of Jules Verne’s classic tales is going to happen. Why do I have a gut feeling Journey from Earth to the Moon will soon become a reality?

Next week has absolutely nothing new to offer horror fans. The box office report will return in two weeks for the big screen showdown between Elizabeth Olsen being terrorized in a Silent House and the House of Mouse waiting to find out how much money they’re going to lose on the mega budget John Carter (no longer of Mars).

Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus and Sheds Light on Guy Pearce's Character

The hard working folks over at AVP Galaxy have scored themselves some nifty new info regarding Ridley Scott's Prometheus and what role Guy Pearce's character will play in the film. Read on for the details.

According to the site Scott recently spoke with the IC Press, and their chat arrived online via Hungarian website Mozinezo. AVP Galaxy found the story and did a little Google-based translating!

When the first ‘Alien’ movie and ‘Blade Runner’ were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner’, and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien’. They sent the Nostromo spaceship. The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and he is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.“

It was also revealed a few weeks ago that Pearce is only in the film for about a minute.

Prometheus, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, and Ben Foster, will be in theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Synopsis
Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With 'Prometheus' he creates a groundbreaking mythology in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Synopsis:
The latest chapter of the saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.
