Star Reveals Purge 2 Plot Details

Star Reveals Purge 2 Plot DetailsWhether you liked The Purge or you hated it, you must at least admit that the premise was pretty damn awesome. With a sequel headed our way, possibly titled The Zone, it's hard not to wonder what aspect of that premise will be explored, and one of the stars has just leaked some plot details.

In an interview with Fangoria, Zach Gilford (Devil's Due, "Friday Night Lights") broke the exciting news that the sequel will not take place inside of a house and will not feature any of the same characters from the first film.

"With this one," he says, "there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive. So I thought it was pretty interesting to take that concept and to look at it from a different angle."

Sounds good to me!

The sequel stars Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo, Jasper Cole, Zoe Borde, Chad Morgan, and Kiele Sanchez.

Look for it in theaters on Friday, June 20, 2014. Writer/director/producer James DeMonaco returns and will be joined by producers Jason Blum, Sebastien Lemercier, and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.

The original was set in the future as a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.

Universal Clocks in for The Wolf's Hour

Universal Clocks in for The Wolf's HourWhat's cooler than Nazi zombies? Few things, really, but Nazis fighting Ally werewolves is pretty damned close. Speaking of which, Universal is ready to start howling again with the film rights to the Robert McCammon novel The Wolf’s Hour.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has acquired the novel for Chris Morgan and Emile Gladstone to produce through their Universal-based Chris Morgan Productions banner. While Universal has done several werewolf films since launching the classic from its original movie monster library, this is a different take on the legend, and it comes with a screenplay.

The novel focuses around a man who is recruited by the Allies in WWII specifically for his ability to go werewolf. He’s charged with stopping a Nazi plot to drop poison gas on England, and at the same time he searches for his long lost blood brother.

The script was written by Bradley and Kevin Marcus. The brothers optioned the 1989 novel themselves and took the time to flesh out a script that sparked Morgan and Gladstone after CMP exec Ainsley Davies brought it in.

More as it comes.

A Take on the La Llorona Tale Is on its Way that Will Make You Weep

A Take on the La Llorona Tale is On its Way that Will Make You WeepThe legend of La Llorona is a truly frightening bit of folklore, but as of yet no one has done it justice movie-wise. Thankfully a new flick is on the way that is looking to change that, and you're gonna Weep when you read the news!

    From the Press Release
BoulderLight Pictures is proud to announce WEEP, a new horror film inspired by the coveted “La Llorona” legend, set to go into production in the spring of 2014. Written by Blood List writers T.J. Cimfel and David White, the project is set to be a modern take on the classic ghost story.

"We're incredibly excited to be bringing this terrifying and rich legend to North American audiences," said producer J.D. Lifshitz. “David and T.J. have helped cook up something truly scary and original, and we hope to thrill fans of the legend as well as garner new ones."

BoulderLight Pictures is working off of the success of their recently released body-horror pic Contracted (via IFC Midnight) to deliver WEEP to an even larger audience, utilizing a bigger budget and higher profile cast. The filmmakers are bridging the gap in the marketplace by making a film to satisfy a wide array of distinctive moviegoers from the Hispanic community to horror and thriller fans and genre-loving cinephiles alike.

"It's no big secret that the Hispanic community makes up a substantial portion of moviegoers,” said producer Raphael Margules. “We couldn't be more enthusiastic about bringing one of the most well-known characters in Hispanic folklore to life on the big screen in a way that both honors ‘La Llorona’ and frightens audiences to their core."

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will tell of a modern haunting of the infamous weeping woman, “La Llorona,” set in America. Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz are producing on behalf of BoulderLight Pictures.

Meet the Geckos in the First Still from From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series

    0
    0

Meet the Geckos in this First Still from From Dusk Till Dawn: The SeriesNot only has the newly launched El Rey Network been pumping out promos left and right, they've also been hard at work on "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series," as evidenced by this first still which shows that the Geckos are indeed back.

Below you'll see D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz as Seth and Richie Gecko, roles originated by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino. Along with releasing the still, director Robert Rodriguez spoke to BuzzFeed about adapting the film for the small screen and developing a new vampire mythos.

"From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" is shaping up to be a bit of a prequel to, as well as an expansion of, the movie. “We see things that led up to events in the film and much deeper character motivations and storylines to sort of launch into the new story that we’re doing,” Rodriguez said. “The film was a short story. This is the novel version.”

In addition "FDTD" will expand on Rodriguez's interest in Mesoamerican mythology, something only hinted at in the film. “I did some research... [and] when I got into it, I realized, 'Oh my God, I would love to do a whole other story on this culture and on this mythology. Let me throw some hints in From Dusk Till Dawn, and maybe in another film I’ll explore this.' And I never got to.”

Which, of course, is a great fit for El Rey's plans to tap into new facets of Latino culture along with offering innovative, fast-paced entertainment. “It is seeing something that you’ve never seen before, this Mesoamerican mythology of demon culture and these vampires that are not your traditional vampires,” Rodriguez said. “It’s a mix of this crime saga with these supernatural elements that will make this different from anything else on television.”

The 10-episode series is produced in association with FactoryMade Ventures and created and executive produced by network founder and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. It centers around bank robber Seth Gecko (D.J. Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Zane Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Don Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the Border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive.

Co-stars include Wilmer Valderrama as enigmatic crime lord Carlos; Madison Davenport as Kate Fuller; Brandon Soo Hoo as Scott Fuller; Adrianne Palicki as Vanessa Styles; Jake Busey as Professor Aiden Tanner; Lane Garrison as Pete; and Eiza González as Santánico Pandemonium.

Look for "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" to premiere sometime in the first quarter of 2014. For more info in the meantime, keep your eyes on the show's Facebook page, the official El Rey Network website, El Rey Network on Facebook, and El Rey Network on Twitter.

For "Da Vinci's Demons" we have three new stills, a trailer, and some official details.

    From the Press Release:
The anticipated second season of the historical fantasy “Da Vinci’s Demons,” an original series created by David S. Goyer, who most recently wrote the screenplay for Man of Steel and its untitled sequel as well as being co-writer of The Dark Knight trilogy, will premiere on STARZ in the U.S. on Saturday, March 22nd, at 9pm ET/PT.

The ten-episode drama, produced by Adjacent Productions, follows the ‘untold’ story of the world's greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his turbulent youth during the Renaissance. Starz greenlit “Da Vinci’s Demons” for a second season following its record-setting first season weekend debut on STARZ on Friday, April 12, 2013. Outside of the United States and English-speaking Canada, “Da Vinci’s Demons” is distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide, in partnership with FOX International Channels (FIC) who broadcasts the series to audiences in 125 countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa following Starz’s exclusive premiere in the U.S.

Brilliant and passionate, the 25-year-old Leonardo da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer, and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time.

Starring Tom Riley (“Monroe,” I Want Candy) as the title character, Season Two of “Da Vinci's Demons” finds Florence thrown into chaos in the wake of the Pazzi conspiracy. Lorenzo is gravely ill, and Leonardo da Vinci must push the limits of his mind and body to defend the city against the forces of Rome. While the Medicis go to unthinkable lengths to deal with new threats, da Vinci continues on his quest to find the fabled Book of Leaves and uncover the secret history of his mother. He'll come to realize that he has lethal competition in his quest -- new enemies who may be even worse than the forces of Pope Sixtus. His search will take him to faraway lands and force him to reevaluate everything he knew about the world and his own history.

Riley’s co-stars include Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy), who plays Lucrezia Donati; Elliot Cowan (“Luther,” “Lost in Austen”), who plays the de factor ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock”), who plays his wife, Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson (Serena, “Upstairs Downstairs”), who plays the ruthless and unwavering Count Girolamo Riario, nephew of Pope Sixtus IV.

Jane Tranter, head of Adjacent Productions, served as Executive Producer. The series was shot in Swansea during the summer and fall of 2013. The series is produced by Adjacent Productions, a label launched in 2012 that sits alongside BBC Worldwide Productions in order to identify new and original programming created and produced under the company’s umbrella.
