Films about demonic rituals are all the rage in Hollywood horror at the moment, and word has just come out of the UK about a new one that's soon headed our way. Bust out your Ouija board and read on!

As per Screen Daily, Content has boarded worldwide rights to a UK horror film called Altar, which is currently shooting in Yorkshire. The flick was written and is being directed by Nick Willing (Neverland).

Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket), Olivia Williams, Antonia Clarke and Adam Thomas Wright make up the members of a family who move into a remote English country estate, where it is rumoured the original owner killed his wife in a demonic ritual.

Executive producer is Robert Halmi Sr. who spearheads the production, comprising The Halmi Company and UK outfit Great Point Media in association with Sandover Productions.

There was a news story last year about a supposedly haunted mirror, which brought a string of bad luck and misfortune to its owners. Perfect set-up for a horror flick, you're thinking? Well, someone already beat ya to it!

Screen Daily reports that UK sales outfit High Point has just acquired the rights to The Mirror, a found footage film that picks up where the real-life story ended.

Directed by Ed Boase, the film focuses on three intrepid flatmates who purchase the supposedly haunted antique on eBay and set up round-the-clock cameras in the hopes of capturing evidence of something going bump in the night as a means to win the James Randi Foundation's $1M Paranormal Challenge.

Jemma Dallender (I Spit on Your Grave 2) stars alongside Joshua Dickinson and Nate Fallows.

Deadline reports that IFC is closing a deal for the film at Sundance, as the festival heads toward its final weekend. The deal is in the vicinity of $2 million for North American rights, with WME Global negotiating.

Michael C. Hall stars, alongside Vinessa Shaw, Don Johnson, Sam Shepard and Nick Damici.

Synopsis
Despite the trappings — guns, stakeouts, an ex-con, a private eye, a porn ring, a shootout — this isn’t an ordinary suspense novel. It’s a lean, effective character study about a man who risks his comfortable life to pursue something half-glimpsed within his psyche. A while back we told you about a lawsuit concerning The Collingswood Story and Paranormal Activity 4. Today we reached out to director Mike Costanza for an update on that situation, but we got a whole lot more. Read on for details.

In terms of the lawsuit Costanza tells us, "This was a matter that was very important to me and I am pleased that the matter has been resolved amicably." That's very cool to hear, but what he dropped on us next was EXTREMELY juicy...

"The fact remains that Collingswood was put on the map by the online horror community," says Costanza. "That's pretty damn cool considering the film had zero distribution at the time. Collingswood then screened at festivals like FrightFest in London, Fearless Tales in San Francisco, and won awards such as Best Indie Film and Best Cast. Then the late, great Mo Claridge of Anchor Bay UK picked up the film and released a Region 2 DVD (which was an amazing transfer of the film by the way). The cast of Collingswood and I were also honored to have an online screening of Collingswood on Dread Central as part of Indie Horror Month. So for a micro budgeter without worldwide distribution and made some ten-plus years ago, Collingswood seems to hold its own while creeping out a whole a new set of eyes today."

Costanza continues, "As for a potential wider release, I'm preparing an HD version of the film. The original tapes were finally located at the bottom of some boxes I had piled up in storage. Finding the original tapes after so many years seemed like discovering actual 'found footage.' I kept hearing the Grindhouse trailer:"

The Tapes of C-wood!!”

"The HD version will contain never-before-seen footage as well as lots of behind-the-scenes stuff. When asked if I would ever consider making a sequel? Most definitely. There's plenty of ominous territory to explore not only with the surviving characters and their battle with the darkside but the entire myth surrounding the disturbing ritual murders. But first things first. I'm on a deadline to finish a horror-themed television pilot. Special thanks goes out to Dread Central and to the lovers of all things horror!"

Really, what is it gonna take to get this movie out there already?

The powers-that-be at Scream Factory have long been putting out badass artwork for their stellar classic horror flick releases, but with the upcoming Blu-ray of the Eighties slasher classic Sleepaway Camp, they may have just outdone themselves.

After creating quite a stir at this year's Sundance Film Festival, we have a blissfully violent and fun trailer for Tommy Wirkola's long awaited sequel to Dead Snow, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead! Dig it!

In a competitive situation at Sundance, distributor Well Go USA Entertainment has picked up U.S. rights to the Park City at Midnight crowd favorite DEAD SNOW: RED VS. DEAD, the sequel to the successful cult hit DEAD SNOW, which debuted at Sundance in 2009.

The Norwegian and English-language film was written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and stars Martin Starr, Vegar Hoel, Ingrid Haas, Stig Frode Henriksen, Jocelyn DeBoer and Ørjan Gamst. Kjetil Omberg and Terje Stroemstad of Tappeluft Pictures produced the film. XYZ Films’ Nick Spicer and Todd Brown executive produced, along with Wayne Godfrey from The Fyzz, which also provided a portion of the financing for the film.

Filmed in all-English simultaneously to the half-Norwegian, half-English version that was shown at Sundance, Well Go USA Entertainment will release the all-English version. The company plans to announce a domestic release date shortly.

If the worst day of your life consisted of accidentally killing your girlfriend with an axe, chain-sawing your own arm off, and watching in horror as your closest friends were devoured by a zombified Nazi battalion, you’d have to assume that things couldn’t get much worse. In Martin’s case, that was only the beginning. Picking up immediately where the original left off, DEAD SNOW: RED VS. DEAD wastes no time getting right to the gore-filled action, leaving a bloody trail of intestines in its wake.

The deal, which marks one of the largest U.S. sales ever for a Norwegian film, was brokered by Well Go USA Entertainment President Doris Pfardrescher with CAA, XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin, and Elle Driver on behalf of the filmmakers. Elle Driver also represents the film’s international distribution rights.

Every year, religiously, somebody passes out at Sundance because of a visceral reaction they had to one of the movies screened there. The latest to earn that dubious honor? Gareth Evans' sequel to The Raid: Redemption, entitled The Raid 2: Berandal.

According to The Wrap, a man who appeared to be in his early 30s fell ill during the Tuesday night premiere of The Raid 2: Berandal at the cavernous Eccles Theater in Park City, halting the screening midway through.

The man appeared to recover from whatever caused him to faint and after a while was able to walk out on his own power with the help of theater staff. Paramedics were apparently on their way to check him out all the same.

Midway through the film, the sequel to the intense and grisly martial arts action film The Raid, people in the center of the large venue started screaming to stop the movie and began shining their phones on the man. The movie kept playing for about two minutes before the lights came up and theater personnel were summoned. The man appeared “white as a sheet” but was saying he was okay after the episode.

Other people have had a far more positive reaction despite the carnage, including critics:

The one element of The Raid 2 that might divide audiences is that this just may be one of the most violent action movies ever made. The sheer amount of bloodletting makes Paul Verhoven’s early actioners look tame by comparison.[..] This is the most violent mainstream film since The Passion of the Christ. -Joblo

The Sundance cut of ‘The Raid 2‘ is 148 minutes. I think I saw 138. Ten minutes before the end I turned to a colleague and said “all right, enough of this,” and walked out. Synopsis
He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Formidable though they may have been, Rama’s opponents in that fateful building were nothing more than small fish swimming in a pond much larger than he ever dreamed possible. And his triumph over the small fry has attracted the attention of the predators farther up the food chain. His family at risk, Rama has only one choice to protect his infant son and wife: He must go undercover to enter the criminal underworld himself and climb through the hierarchy of competing forces until it leads him to the corrupt politicians and police pulling the strings at the top of the heap.

And so Rama begins a new odyssey of violence, a journey that will force him to set aside his own life and history and take on a new identity as the violent offender “Yuda.” In prison he must gain the confidence of Uco – the son of a prominent gang kingpin – to join the gang himself, laying his own life on the line in a desperate all-or-nothing gambit to bring the whole rotten enterprise to an end.

Here we are, kids. Movie number 876,591 with Danny Trejo on the cover. Will he actually be in this one, or will he just grace the cover and be in the movie for a few minutes as per usual? Only time will tell. In any event...
