Julius Onah to Direct Legendary's Adaptation of Marcus Sakey's BrillianceAnother book-to-screen adaptation is heading our way, and if you're a fan of thrillers that incorporate social commentary, Legendary Pictures' upcoming Brilliance should be on your radar.

Per Deadline, Nigerian producer/director Julius Onah (The Girl Is in Trouble) has been tapped to direct the David Koepp-scripted adaptation of Marcus Sakey's novel Brilliance, which Joe Roth and Palek Patel are producing along with Legendary.

We don't have many other details, but the book's synopsis follows, and you can expect more soon.

Novel Synopsis:
In Wyoming a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980 one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.

From Marcus Sakey, “a modern master of suspense” (Chicago Sun-Times) and “one of our best storytellers” (Michael Connelly), comes an adventure that’s at once breakneck thriller and shrewd social commentary, a gripping tale of a world fundamentally different and yet horrifyingly similar to our own, where being born gifted can be a terrible curse.

10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than You Might Think

10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than You Might ThinkTo preface this article, I’d like to openly acknowledge the fact that there isn’t a single “great” film on this list. Furthermore, given the concept of this piece, it’s safe to say that you’re not going to read about any significantly original films either.

The whole remake thing kind of blew those hopes out of the water. That said, we’re going to eye 10 remakes/reboots/reimaginings that were forced through the meat grinder upon arrival, despite the fact that they didn’t entirely deserve such brutish treatment.

Believe it or not, there are a few remakes out there worth watching. The horror world would have you believe that not a single film on this list qualifies, but I’m here – battling valiantly – to prove the voices of many wrong. Dig in for a closer look at some remakes that, while not monumental, still offer some redeeming qualities.

10 Horror Remakes That Are Better Than You Might Think

Black Christmas: Okay, let’s be real; Bob Clark’s original Black Christmas is about as close as you can get to a perfect film. From the palpable tension, the deep mystery and the haunting anonymity of said mystery and mysterious killer, you can’t ask for much more. But Glen Morgan’s 2006 reboot differed in just about every way imaginable. Gone are imaginative camera angles, severe claustrophobia and legit intrigue; in place is a direct forward tale that paints the killer in bright and obvious light. We know exactly what’s unfolding in this film, and while that extinguishes the unknown, it works – in positive fashion – on a completely different level. The aesthetic value (this film looks like Christmas like none other has ever accomplished) is priceless, and while tense sequences are a tad predictable, the gratuitous payoffs can be priceless.

My recommendation: Pretend the original doesn’t exist and prepare yourself for dumb, violent fun. Just don’t eat those flesh cookies!

Fright Night: Let’s get this out of the way immediately: The visual effects featured in Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night remake are terrible. Okay, they’re not terrible; they’re nauseatingly bad, embarrassingly stomach aching and downright despicable (I haven’t checked stats, but there may have actually been theatrical fatalities after being embarrassed to death by this shit). If there’s a film you can point at and say, "Now those are wretched special effects," Fright Night is that movie. However, there’s a lot going on in this flick outside of the special effects alone.

Colin Farrell is particularly impressive as Jerry, the resident bloodsucker who’s taken to feeding on local Las Vegas call girls. Anton Yelchin – once you’ve accepted his rather extreme personality shift as Charley Brewster – works as a fine protagonist (thank the higher powers his conscience finally begins to tug at him). And the final showdown between the two, if you can get beyond the horrendous CGI sequences featuring both Charley and Jerry in the build-up (in regards to visual effects exclusively), it actually feels quite rewarding.

What it boils down to is this: Be willing to look beyond the visual effects and you’ll likely have a fine viewing experience.

MORE Not-Bad Horror Remakes on the NEXT page!

Halloween: Rob Zombie certainly didn’t nail a reimagining of John Carpenter’s Halloween in pitch-perfect fashion. There is an abundance of negative factors that come into play when studying this highly anticipated reboot. The pacing is horrendous, the casting is borderline embarrassing and the “Halloween” vibe earns serious neglect. That said, there aren’t many who could have made this one a certified masterpiece. John Carpenter did that quite well in 1978, and he may well be the only man capable of pulling off such a feat.

However, Rob’s attempt to bring Michael’s origin to the surface of things – something we hadn’t seen in previous installments – is noteworthy. Unlike countless filmmakers, Rob was driven to paint a more complex origin of the infamous Michael Myers, and whether you can support Rob’s first film as whole, it’s hard to deny the effort he put into the mythos of Michael Myers. The backstory makes for a completely new angle. It’s almost like watching a film from a completely different camera POV and catching a load of minor details you may have previously missed.

The casting could have been elevated quite a bit (sorry, Scout, but you fail), but at least we get a chance to see Brad Dourif in one of his greatest roles. This dude was born to play Sheriff Brackett.

Thir13en Ghosts: I won’t lie to you: The script for Steve Beck’s rendition of Thir13en Ghosts is a bit on the safe side. That said, it doesn’t really need to be overly intricate. William Castle’s original film is dreadful at best so virtually any director with a pulse could turn this one into a markedly improved product, even with a flat screenplay.

And that’s what we get from this reboot. The story isn’t spectacular, plot intricacies are nearly nonexistent, but what this flick has going for it is powerful visuals. The ghostly apparitions are quite jarring, and the breakneck pace of the film puts the original to complete shame. Hell, the introductory shot alone puts the original to shame. Is this remake amazing? No. But it’s a notably stronger effort than that offered by William Castle in 1960, and it’s profoundly more enjoyable than critics were eager to admit.

MORE Not-Bad Horror Remakes on the NEXT page!

House on Haunted Hill: House on Haunted Hill and Thir13en Ghosts play out as essentially carbon copies of one another. That’s not necessarily a terrible thing, but don’t anticipate any mind boggling differences between these flicks. Visually the edge likely goes to Thir13en Ghosts, but House on Haunted Hill has some creepy atmosphere going for it... and that damned super-fast blurry motion effect that – admittedly – blows my mind every time I see it.

There may be quite the abundance of plot holes to contend with here, and one of the strangest onscreen ensembles you’ll spot, but there’s brainless fun to be had. When compared directly to the original Vincent Price piece, the pic holds up pretty well. I love William Castle’s original, but let’s be real: The film is a little bit of a hackjob, despite its charm.

The Stepfather: It’s a little baffling how much disdain this remake drew. The ire was almost tangible, and truth be told, this Stepfather doesn’t really deserve that form of response. It’s not remotely near as chilling as Joseph Ruben’s flick, no doubt about it. Dylan Walsh is no Terry O’Quinn for that matter either. However, when Dylan snaps, it’s startling, and the man, no doubt, is frightening in his darkest moments. It’s a little flashy, I’ll openly admit. But any time this one hits the waves, I can’t help but to watch it.

You’ve got to admit, the “Who am I here?!” scene is exponentially better than it should have been. Those kinds of iconic shots seem damn near impossible to pull off, but in this case it actually worked out. That alone deserves really big points.

This is the type of motion picture that had no hope of rivaling the original source. It wasn’t going to happen. Terry O’Quinn delivered a once in a lifetime performance back in 1987, and kudos to him. That however isn’t a valid reason to crucify Walsh, who himself did a solid job as the face-changing killer in search of the perfect family.

The next time you’re thinking of dismissing this one, or refusing it a second chance, think for one moment and pretend the original film was never made. Now ask yourself: Could you have dug Nelson McCormick’s flick and the outrageous idea on display if an original feature had never been made? It’s still a cool enough idea that I’d be interested whether Joseph Ruben’s pic existed or not.

MORE Not-Bad Horror Remakes on the NEXT page!

A Nightmare on Elm Street: Here come a few picks that all but guarantee death threats via email. Sometimes a film is so insanely beloved that rebooting or reimagining it is considered two levels beyond taboo. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of those movies. How dare Samuel Bayer and Platinum Dunes touch this oft-worshipped classic?! They just defecated on brilliance!

Well... not exactly.

There are some horrendous pacing issues in the film (a recurring theme on this list), and character focus is so blurred that we the viewer aren’t even certain of whom we’re supposed to be cheering for. Is it Kris? Is it Nancy? If not for Craven’s original, we’d never have a damn clue with how much emphasis is placed on Kris in the first act of the film. Okay, big, big errors there. Hell, there are problems with the cast as well. Rooney Mara is a despicable human being who phones in a flat performance, and Thomas Dekker couldn’t act his way out of a community college class. However – and this is where it gets tricky – Jackie Earle Haley is a pitch-perfect, astoundingly terrifying Freddy Krueger. Significantly more unsettling than Robert Englund, dare I say.

It’s messy, but between Haley’s depiction of Fred (the moment in which he advances on Dekker’s character and asks, “You think you can bring the dead back to life?” to which Dekker’s character quickly answers, “No,” before Krueger leans in even closer and says, “I didn’t fuckin’ think so!” is the single most frightening shot I’ve ever seen from the famed Krueger character), the amazing and shockingly realistic makeup work and Kyle Gallner’s all or nothing approach to the film, there’s something good to see here. Is it as good as Wes Craven’s original or Dream Warriors or even Wes Craven’s New Nightmare? Nah, but it’s damn chilling when it needs to be, and it’s clearly better than many would have you believe.

Friday the 13th: Oh no, he didn’t! Yes, he did. If you didn’t get a kick out of Marcus Nispel’s Friday the 13th reworking, you might not have a pulse. First off, the manner in which the writing crew successfully incorporated key elements of the first four Friday flicks was genius. It was new... and not new... simultaneously. Swing, and a hit. Next up, we get treated to one of the strongest ensembles any Friday film has ever boasted. Acting has never, ever taken priority in these films, but there are strong performers cast in this case, completely breaking the expected mold.

Jared Padalecki is a fine hero, Travis Van Winkle is extremely convincing as the Super Dick, Danielle Panabaker is a young Scream Queen worthy of supporting and Aaron Yoo delivers some honest to goodness funny punch-lines. And finally, the real kicker of this flick: quick, agile, wrecking ball, Jason. This hulking beast isn’t shambling through the shadows this time around. He’s more likely to clothesline your ass runnin’ 30 miles per hour. That alone could take a head off, who needs a machete?

Derek Mears brings a superb physicality to this one, and he alone travels a great distance in stealing the show. But he doesn’t, entirely, and he doesn’t carry the entertainment exclusively. He’s got help, and it’s a damn pleasure to see. Not since the first few Friday films has the Voorhees’ murderous family tradition been this thrilling, his victims so engaging.

MORE Not-Bad Horror Remakes on the NEXT page!

The Thing: Technically, The Thing wasn’t a remake. Except it kind of was a remake... of a remake. Redundancy was going to be a challenging obstacle to avoid as it is, given the fact that John Carpenter’s own remake painted the fate of the Norwegian base camp members pretty damn clear. It looked awfully obvious that the alien had been thawed/escaped and tore that camp apart from the inside out thanks to that nifty ability to absorb and shapeshift. You know, exactly what happens back at the American camp. So, right off the bat, it was probably reasonable to ward off any hope of a deeply thought-provoking concept.

With that said, the other big misfire comes in the excessive visual effects use. High caliber practical work isn’t easy, cheap or timely. It can actually be hell on set and delay schedules like you couldn’t imagine (look into the production of Jaws for a fine example of this form of hiccup). But computer graphics, while tedious in the task of creation, are something of a safer bet. The challenges that can occur when dealing with practical effects can typically be worked around and properly manipulated with the assistance of computers. But to remake The Thing (or make a prequel, if you prefer) with CGI-heavy SFX feels truly blasphemous.

The effects of the original were instrumental in the pic’s overall greatness. They are still to this day among the best effects you’ll find on film. You simply cannot cheat in that particular department if you’re out to create an amazing new chapter of a cherished story. In case you forgot, someone did some serious cheating.

But oddly enough, outside of those detriments, there are some real strengths to be unearthed. The script is much sharper than I initially believed after my inaugural viewing. There are some layers to the story that work, and the steady stream of tie-ins to Carpenter’s classic are greatly appreciated. A female is successfully infused into the story, and oddly enough (I have no idea if this was intentional or not) Ulrich Thomsen, who basically plays the “mad scientist,” looks a little bit like Robert Cornthwaite, who plays his mirror in The Thing from Another World, the first cinematic transfer of John W. Campbell, Jr.’s story, “Who Goes There?” It’s a really loose link that plays as strangely charming.

I certainly can’t claim the latest rendition of The Thing is a great movie. At all. But there are some killer sequences in the picture. I know because it’s one of those pics that no matter when it’s on, I find myself watching. That means something in my book.

House of Wax: Sometimes it’s best to just completely discard established groundwork, which is pretty much what director Jaume Collet-Serra opted for when putting together a House of Wax remake. The very first time this story was shot, it was loaded with comic relief and dumped on the masses under the title of Mystery of the Wax Museum. Fast forward 20 years and director André de Toth cast Vincent Price in the lead and eliminated a whole lot of the hokey jokes that hurt the first film.

Now, fast forward 52 more years, and not only has Collet-Serra kept the laughs away, we’ve also got what is basically a totally different story. In the Price version it all boils down to greed, jealousy, a flaming museum and a little cruel justice dealt to his seedy business partner. Warner Brothers’ 2005 flick has nothing to do with any of that... other than a building engulfed in flames.

This one travels the teen slasher route as a handful of kids find themselves stuck in what seems a ghost town. Well, it is a ghost town, as all the inhabitants have been turned into real life wax displays by a pair of lunatic brothers, and this group of traveling youngsters are next in line. Although radically different, this could easily be labeled the most entertaining House of Wax pic yet. Paris Hilton gets herself mutilated (always a plus), Jared Padalecki makes an appearance, the stunning Elisha Cuthbert flaunts her stuff and Chad Michael Murray proved he’s capable of shaking that awful "One Tree Hill" stigma.

So much better than pundits initially chirped!

Exclusive: Zoey Deutch Kicks Ass for Vampire Academy

Exclusive: Zoey Deutch Kicks Ass for Vampire AcademyIn the upcoming film Vampire Academy (based upon the series of bestselling books by Richelle Mead), Zoey Deutch plays heroine Rose Hathaway. She’s a Dhampir, half human/half vampire, and a guardian of her Moroi best friend, Lissa (Lucy Fry).

Dread Central sat down with Zoey last week, and she told us all about the new movie.

Dread Central: What do you like about this character [Rose Hathaway]?

Zoey Deutch: Oh my gosh. How many times have I answered that question? What did I like about this character... I liked that Rose Hathaway is passionately curious, she's strong-willed, she's loyal to her best friend, she's a fighter - literally and physically - and to me, what I love most about her is her sense of humor and that she uses it as a means of survival and as a defense mechanism. I loved that about her.

DC: You had a love scene with a sexy older gentleman. Is that nerve-wrecking that you get nervous for your parents and friends to see that?

ZD: Nah. I just kind of deal with that kind of stuff with self-deprecating jokes. I just kind of say to all my friends when they see the trailer, "And you saw my ass! How is that for you?"

DC: You're very kick-ass in the movie with Danila [Kozlovsky]; do you think you can kick his ass in real life?

ZD: Kick Danila's ass in real life? Yes, because he would never fight a girl! He would never hurt a woman. He's a gentleman through and through.

DC: As a kid you did some dancing. Was that helpful in the learning of martial arts for this?

ZD: It was helpful in terms of any of the kicks to do because I was flexible. And more so for the choreography because my body was able to adapt and learn quicker for that. But it did not help me with the martial arts because I needed to build muscle mass. It's a lot of gym training.

DC: What was the first thing you had to do for this film?

ZD: It was the training. Yeah, I was reading the books and training.

DC: Was it the first time in your life to do this kind of thing?

ZD: It was the first time I set foot into a gym... and I don't recommend it!

DC: Have you kept it up with all the muscle workouts and everything?

ZD: Absolutely not. I mean, I still do like kick-boxing and I've always done yoga and hiked a lot. But I'm not so much of a gym rat. Which - hey - Rose Hathaway would totally agree! She hates that!

DC: So how would you personally, as Zoey Deutch, handle a Strigoi in real life?

ZD: I'm from the Valley! I'd use my Valley accent and scream super loud. And that "insert bad word here" would just go running away... quicker than I could say [Zoey screams] AAAAAHHHHH!

DC: You went to an arts high school, right?

ZD: Yes, ma'am.

DC: So what was that experience like? I was just asking Lucy if she was sporty or nerdy. Was that experience pretty normal, or was it weird for you?

ZD: It was just refreshing because I had gone to a private school my whole life where I had found that a lot of my peers had a lack of purpose and therefore were just so catty and awful.

DC: [Like] Mean Girls?

ZD: Yeah. But no, not necessarily even mean. Bored. They were so bored. They were all intelligent people doing very well in an extremely difficult school but they lacked purpose. When I went to [my] arts high school, I was surrounded by people who had passion for things that were important to them and it was eye-opening and inspiring.

DC: Zoey, you come from second generation entertainment. Can you talk about the best advice your parents gave you and what it's like working with your mom because you have worked with her before?

ZD: My mom [Lea Thompson] is such a professional, it's intimidating. Every set I've ever worked on, there's always someone on the crew... whether it'd be a grip or a sound person or a producer, the director... they always have a specific example of how kind my mother was to them. Which is so awesome! Especially in a business like this. And working with her was great. We work together a lot. She helps me with a lot of my auditions.

DC: Did you get to learn any Russian from Danila or Olga on set? Can we possibly hear one?

ZD: I learned a ton of curse words that I promised Danila - I swore to Danila that I would not reveal it during the press tour and he's like "oh no, I'm gonna get in trouble!"

DC: A lot of people took your Danila comment about kissing him on the red carpet if we won the MTV Movie Brawl very seriously. I mean we didn't win, but we got to the semi-finals! They're wondering if you'll still do it?

ZD: No that wasn't the deal! *Laughs* what would be the purpose of it? Then I would be just another example of being a creepy stalker. I'd just be kissing him!

DC: Were you familiar with the book series? Did you read the book before you got the script? What was your impression of it?

ZD: I read the book after I got the part but I hadn't read them prior to auditioning, no.

DC: Was it fun to enter this fantasy world and see yourself on screen being a host for these vampires and protecting them?

ZD: It was fun to watch the story but it wasn't fun to watch myself even though I'm someone who, ironically enough, I'm a younger sibling I love the attention so you would think I'd be like "oh look at me! I'm on the screen!" But it's very embarrassing and weird to watch yourself for two hours...or hour and a half, however long the film is.

DC: Do you critique yourself when you watch and say like "I should've turned my head this way or done it this way!"

ZD: Yeah... yeah, I nit-pick everything. I'm hypocritical.

DC: You had so much narration in this. When you first saw the script and saw how much she has to say, were you like "oh my god, this is gonna be hard" or...?

ZD: It's not necessarily much how much dialogue there is, its actually THE dialogue. The words are so wordy and specific. What you saw is like 3/4th of my stuff is cut. It's a lot of memorizing and anyone in the cast can attest that I never flubbed on my lines which I'm... PROUD OF!

DC: Did you talk to the author of the book first and get the intel on [how to pronounce all the names]?

ZD: Yeah, we called her on speakerphone and were like, "Hey, Richelle! Here we are on the set, making your uhh.... movie! How do you pronounce 'dhampir'?"

DC: How do you think Rose is as a heroine? We have strong, young heroines like in The Hunger Games. How is Rose different from the other similar genres and type of characters?

ZD: I think that... well, one, her sense of humor. I think that it's hilarious. The actual words that come out of her mouth could be so ridiculous. But I think what separates her apart from everybody is the fact that she is a heroine, she is the narrator, the hero, but she makes mistakes. She's not always right or perfect - and I love that. Your making the lead character, in a lot of ways, so human you know? That she's so sure about things and she's so strong and confident and you're like "ugh! wish I could be like her!" and then she screws up! And I appreciate that. I find strength in that kind of vulnerability of being wrong.

DC: What is your favorite moment of Lissa and Rose in this film?

ZD: I liked the opening scene where it establishes Lissa and Rose's relationship because after that things just get so infiltrated by the chaos of everything going on around them that it's nice to see them just be friends, enjoying each of their company, and seeing that bond between them.

DC: Is it surreal that people are calling this the next Twilight and now you're getting all these crazy fans?

ZD: It's not surreal because it's not going to be the next Twilight. It's not going to be the next... anything! It's going to whatever it's gonna be.

DC: What are you most looking forward to if you guys get a sequel?

ZD: Getting to work with Cameron Monaghan. That would be wonderful. I'm a huge fan of his.

DC: Do you watch "Shameless"?

ZD: A little bit! Not too much.

DC: He's great in it!

ZD: Yeah, he's pretty much good in everything he does. Although I don't like to give him compliments cause he already has a big head.

DC: You've got some cool clothes in this. I liked that leather kick-butt outfit. Did you keep anything for a souvenir?

ZD: They didn't give me anything. I was just the lead character... seriously, I stole a pair of sweatpants and a towel that said "St. Vladimir's Academy." Stole! They wouldn't give me anything! The leather jacket, well... Ruth Myers was the costume designer and she's so awesome. We went through so many [leather jackets] and we went with a Zara coat! I think that was because we discussed smalls and that was very present and it made sense. I also didn't want her to have this really nice, all saints, $2,000 get-up because she doesn't have much. She doesn't have any money, she doesn't have a family to pay for it, so I thought that was nice.

DC: Is her style anything like your own?

ZD: A little bit. I mean, I wear like black pants and combat boots.

DC: What did you think of the soundtrack? Any favorites on it, or have you heard it?

ZD: I love the soundtrack! Yeah! It's super cool! I was surprised by how much I loved it actually. I heard it for the first time when I saw the film. I was like, "What?! I love all these songs!"

DC: What kind of music are you into when you just listen for fun?

ZD: I am so in a different music world right now. I'm doing a movie after this about the Allman Brothers so that's all I'm listening to right now.

DC: "Midnight Rider"?

ZD: Yeah!

DC: What is the important aspect of your character that you want people to learn from?

ZD: I think her loyalty to her friend is a great message for young girls and actually anybody at that. I find it can get cloudy when you find someone you like and you make the wrong things a priority. I know I've done that. Rose is so, so clear about what's important to her, and that's Lissa. That's loyal and that's awesome!

DC: Is it kind of similar to you and your best friend?

ZD: I'm not half of the friend that Rose is. No, I wouldn't die for any of my friends except for my family *laughs*. I guess the way that Rose feels is how I feel about my mother, my father, and my sister. I'd do anything to protect them.

DC: Any plans to celebrate the release of the movie?

ZD: Well, I take like a red-eye after the premiere and go for more press and stuff. I'll eat more cheeseburgers!

Two New Circus of the Dead One-Sheets Go Old School

The Carnival of Carnage Contines With a Fresh Batch of Circus of the Dead ImagesTwo new one-sheets have come our way for the upcoming indie flick Circus of the Dead, which features the great Bill Oberst, Jr., as a psycho clown along with Parrish Randall and more! Check out the goodies!

Oberst describes his character, Papa Corn, as "a homicidal serial rapist with a taste for necrophilia whose day job happens to be as a circus clown. He and his highly disturbed fellow clowns use the circus as cover for some of the darkest and most graphic acts of violence I have ever seen in a script or on a set."

"The effects team, led by Marcus Koch and Matthew Ash, has been churning out corpses and body parts non-stop for the entire five-week shoot," says Oberst. "We've sawed off heads, hands, and tongues; stripped the skin off a living man's face; drooled clown slime on multiple females in varying states of undress; and chased a stark naked woman through a parking garage with a real cattle prod. And believe me, that's the mild stuff. This is balls-out horror."

Director Billy Pon is planning a spring 2014 release. The film also stars Parrish Randall, Brad Potts, Chanel Ryan, Ryan Clapp, Rusty Edwards, and Mike Williams. Oberst invites horror fans to support Circus of the Dead by giving it a "like"on IMDb.

Synopsis
A man becomes entangled in a deadly morality game when the circus comes to town and a sadistic clown forces him to examine the things in life he takes for granted in the most horrific ways.

Evil Spreads Like a Virus in Debug"Evil Can't Be Deleted" reads the tagline for the newest supernatural sci-fi/horror hybrid, Debug, and we're not sure why, but it makes us kind of snicker. Maybe it's because of the whole downloading evil meter in I, Frankenstein or something. In any event...

Debug is directed by David Hewlett (Cube) and stars “Games of Thrones” star Jason Momoa. Check out some sales art and stills which have arrived for EFM.

Synopsis
A crew of hackers who are on probation are assigned to recommission an abandoned spaceship. Robert Kirkman Talks New Characters in The Walking Dead, a Different Tone, that Radio Signal, and More!

Robert Kirkman Talks New Characters in The Walking Dead, a Different Tone, that Radio Signal, and More!Just a few more days, and "The Walking Dead" will be back! What can we expect? Robert Kirkman sheds some light on where our survivors are and what challenges they'll face as well as what new characters they'll meet.

Speaking with EW, Kirkman shared the following:

Cast members are talking about how the final eight episodes are tonally different from the first eight. Can you talk about that a bit and how they may feel a bit different?
RK: It’s all of our characters scattered to the winds. Everybody’s separated, and so we’re actually doing a lot of really intense, character focusing episodes. So because they’re separated there will be episodes that focus on different people. There will be episodes that focus on different groups at a time when they’re in their worst situation yet. We’re really going to really drill down into them and get to know them much more than we’ve gotten to know them before. I think after the end of these eight episodes, you’re going to be acutely aware of who these people are, and I think they’re going to be some really shocking revelations about what makes people tick and who they really are at their core.

We're going to see a few new big characters from the comics — Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Rosita (Christian Serratos), and Eugene (Josh McDermitt). What can you tell us about them and how similar or different they will be to the original comic iterations?
RK: These characters are going to be extremely similar to who they were in the comics, and I’m really excited about that. The visuals and costuming for them has been absolutely amazing. These people really do look like they were torn out of the comic page; it’s pretty startling. But I will say people excited for the introduction of these characters won’t have to wait very long. I don’t want to reveal exactly when they’ll be introduced, but it won’t be too terribly late in the season so get your hopes up. They really are going to add a very interesting and very compelling dynamic to the show. I think they’re going to bring in elements to the show that we’ve never really explored before, and I think that’s exciting and something that’s going to change the game to a certain extent. I’m always very excited at how much this show evolves over time and changes season to season, and these three characters are [an] agent that very much changes the story and very much changes the direction of the show to a certain extent.

Are we going to learn more about the faint radio signal Daryl and the others picked up on in the car?
RK: We will absolutely, definitely learn a ton more about that. I think that the first eight episodes of the season probably deserve a rewatch if you’re really invested in what’s coming up. And when it comes time in a couple of years when you watch all of Season 4 as a whole, there are so many hints and so many little breadcrumbs thrown out that are going to be paid off in the back half of Season 4 that people are going to be shocked at the things that they didn’t notice. There are so many little things that are unresolved and are going to be picked up and addressed in these last eight episodes, and that recording is definitely chief among them, but there’s a lot of stuff we’re going to be dealing with.

Does that include the identity of the person putting the rats by the fence?
RK: Yeah, that’s like a whole plot thread! I wanna know what happens there! We wouldn’t leave that hanging.

Any chance we'll see Carol again?
RK: All I’ll say on that front is that Carol was exiled from the prison because of what she did. And now all of our characters have in a sense been exiled from the prison. So, you know... they’re all pretty much in the same place now.

What about seeing Morgan again?
RK: All I’ll say is, it’s entirely possible. I feel like the “Clear” episode that Morgan last appeared [in] would be a worthy end of the story the way he represented Rick’s future and put him back on the path that he was on, and it really played up and played off that relationship they built in the very first episode. And that would have been — would be — a fine ending for that character story. But we all love Lennie James and we all want to see Morgan again so it may happen at some point, it may not. We all want to see Morgan again as much as the fans do. You never know.

How about Lilly and Tara? Will we see them or anyone from the Governor’s storyline again, or is that chapter complete?
RK: There are some people in that mix that we didn’t see die that could theoretically pop up at some point in the future

There's a bit more, including a few teases of Michonne's back story, so be sure to hit the link below for the rest.
