Toy Fair 2014: NECA Reveals 1994 Godzilla FigureNECA has been absolutely killing it at Toy Fair these last couple of days, as they always do. Their latest unveiling couldn't have been timed any better, as it comes our way just in time for Godzilla's 60th anniversary and the impending American remake!

Based on the 1994 film Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, this 6" tall figure measures a whopping 12" from head to tail and features an impressive 30 points of articulation. It's the first in an upcoming line of classic Godzilla figures from the company, which will be followed by a Return of Godzilla figure.

Godzilla 1994 is set to stomp its way onto toy shelves this coming July.

You can also soon expect a Godzilla 2014 figure from NECA, though images of the rebooted beast have not yet been revealed.

Toy Fair 2014: NECA Acquires License for RipleyToday is a good day to be a fan of the Alien franchise. NECA Toys, the company responsible for much plastic-based Alien-themed badassery, has just made the announcement we as fans have been waiting for...

As part of the 35th anniversary celebration of the groundbreaking Alien, NECA will release the first-ever action figures of main character Ellen Ripley that feature the likeness and approval of actress Sigourney Weaver, who was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for Aliens in 1987!

Initial plans include a figure of Ripley in her Nostromo jumpsuit from the original 1979 film, to be followed later by a Ripley figure based on the 1986 movie Aliens, directed by James Cameron.

Prototypes will debut later this summer at San Diego Comic-Con!

The celebration will continue through the year, with a special 35th Anniversary figure appearing in each series of Alien 7″ action figures. Visitors to the booth got a rare peek at Series 3, scheduled for July; Series 4 is slated for autumn.

NECA also revealed a spectacular summer treat for fans: two Deluxe 35th Anniversary releases, both completely in scale with the main action figure line. The massive “Alien Queen Ultra Deluxe Boxed Action Figure” will arrive in July, shortly before the release of the iconic “Power Loader” exoskeleton, which is famously used by Lt. Ripley to battle the Alien Queen in one of the most thrilling scenes in the 1987 movie.

Victor Salva Opens His Dark House Next MonthFormerly titled Haunted, Victor Salva's Dark House is set to open up its creaky doors in less than a month, and a very familiar face will be found on the other side. Step inside for full details!

From the Press Release
The horror-suspense feature Dark House, starring the iconic Tobin Bell (Saw), begins its day-and-date roll-out in March.

On March 11 Cinedigm launches the film in North America across cable, VOD, Blu-ray Disc, and DVD. Paladin will release the movie in New York and Los Angeles on March 14 with additional markets to follow.

Dark House, which follows the terrifying road trip of a young man in search of his dark past, is the freshman effort of LA-based Charles Agron Productions. The company, which expects to announce an international distribution deal in coming days, is also in early stages of pre-production on a second horror title, Monday at 11:01 AM.

Dark House is directed by Victor Salva, a genre favorite whose two Jeepers Creepers films broke box office records and are seminal in the horror canon. Salva co-wrote the script with producer Charles Agron, based on a story by Agron.

Headlining the cast is Tobin Bell. His portrayal of Jigsaw in the Saw franchise was called “brilliant and formidable” by the BBC and made him one of “the most acclaimed names in the world of horror” according to Bloody Disgusting. Up-and-coming young actor Luke Kleintank (“Pretty Little Liars,” 1000 to 1) stars along with Alex McKenna (“Crossing Jordan”, “Dallas”), Zack Ward (Postal), and multiple award-winner Lesley-Anne Down (“Upstairs/Downstairs”).

Says Charles Agron, President of Charles Agron Productions, “It is so gratifying to see this film--which I first sat down to write four years ago--wind up with an iconic director and star, an ensemble of very exciting young actors, and a pair of distributors with deep experience in horror to bring Dark House to audiences.” In addition to producing the film and co-writing with Salva, Agron plays a lead role.

Dark House is a thrilling and horrifying road trip, full of twists and brutal surprises--a suspenseful thriller about a young man and a chilling old house that has survived decades, awaiting the return of its prodigal son… a house that can escalate Nick’s gift to see death before it happens but holds within its walls the origins of a dark family legacy so horrible it may have already reached out to Nick’s unborn child.

Synopsis
When Nick Di Santo learns that his father is not only alive but can possibly reveal the origin of his son's dark gift, he sets out on a trip that takes him to an abandoned mansion he thought only existed in his childhood imagination.

There's an APP for This Latest Artwork and Trailer

There's an APP for This Latest Artwork and TrailerThe official US artwork and trailer for the innovative smartphone-driven Dutch horror flick APP have arrived, and we have them for you right here! No second screen needed! Check out the goods, and look for more on this one soon!

From the Press Release
RAM Releasing, the genre shingle under New York-based distributor Film Movement, today premieres the US theatrical poster and trailer for the label’s first theatrical release since its launch in late 2013, APP.

A film by Bobby Boermans, it’s the first film made with the intentional inclusion of content on a second, mobile screen. The accompanying app, IRIS, is equipped with sonic technology that triggers additional content during the movie – off-screen text messages between characters, an alternative angle in a scene, and more. Though not required for viewing (and enjoying!) the action-packed APP, the intentional use of the second screen makes it a groundbreaking achievement in the continuing convergence of film and technology.

Anna lives with her best friend Sophie and balances psychology classes with supporting her brother and his recovery following a traumatic motorcycle accident. She’s never far from her cellphone, and after a night of partying in the dorms, Anna wakes up groggy and hungover, only to find that a new app has been inexplicably added to it.

Initially helpful and clever, IRIS soon begins behaving mysteriously, answering personal questions it shouldn’t know the answers to and sending inappropriate images to her contacts. When it becomes clear she can’t simply delete the unwanted, evil app, Anna’s efforts to confront it will set in motion a fearful series of events that will put her life, and that of her roommate and her fragile brother, in fatal danger.

APP, RAM Releasing’s first major release in a year packed with equally impressive genre titles slated for theatrical, digital, and home video distribution, opens in theaters May 9; it will be available day-and-date on all major digital platforms, including iTunes, Amazon Instant, and Cable VOD. The IRIS app – text IRIS to 97-000 to download for iPhone and Android – works in any viewing environment, from multiplex to living room. The app also includes exclusive character bios and film stills.

“RAM Releasing was created to push boundaries,” VP of Distribution Rebeca Conget said. “APP challenges the bad name cellphones have gotten in movie theaters and does it in an entirely ingenious way. Boermans’ film will have you rethinking how you watch movies.”

Clancy Brown Talks Having Nothing Left to Fear

Clancy Brown Talks Having Nothing Left to FearFrom the psychopathic, Christopher Lambert-bothering Kurgan in Highlander to tyrannical prison warden Byran Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption through to new recruit-maiming drill sergeant Zim in Starship Troopers, it's safe to say that I am one of the many movie fans who have more than just a handful of favourite Clancy Brown roles.

Brown joins an impressive cast that includes Anne Heche and James Tupper for Nothing Left To Fear, the first horror film to come from former Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash's production company 'Slasher Films'. Akin to Seventies horror classics The Wicker Man and Rosemary's Baby, Anthony Leonardi III's debut feature channels fears of the occult, secret societies and the supernatural with a modern twist.

We snapped up the chance to get the first word from Clancy himself on his latest role as the ominous Pastor Kingsman, head of a mysterious Baptist church that seems to have much more influence on the residents of its small home town than you may realise...

Aaron Williams: Which of your roles are you most fond of?

Clancy Brown: That's not a fair question; I like them all! If it's sunny outside, I like one; if it's rainy, I like another. God, which one am I most fond of? I love the Highlander, I love the Kurgan. They're all emblematic of a time in my life. Shawshank was the role I was doing when I got married, so I like that one. I like the role I was doing when my daughter was born, Starship Troopers, so I have great affection for that. I like Pastor Kingsman because he's sort of a next iteration of these preachers I've been playing, which I think is kind of a fascinating theme. I was a prison guard for a while, and now I'm the guy who plays a pastor. It's an interesting phase I'm going through.

AW: What kind of research did your role in Nothing Left to Fear require?

CB: You can over-research it. It didn't require the same kind of research that the pastor I played in "Carnivale" required. What I ended up doing was going around these small town churches in and around Louisiana and listening to sermons, seeing what the messages were, and I've gotta tell you – they were a lot scarier than they were in the movie. Me going around in those little churches was far more frightening than the movie itself!

    AW: Scary? How so?

CB: Well, they were very political. Not fire and brimstone, but they were directing their flock a lot. They were telling them what to do, what to think and so forth. In Nothing Left To Fear, the thing that I loved about it was Pastor Kingsman was not that kind of overbearing guy. He was a guy that truly did care about his congregation and had to do certain things to protect them, including sacrifice somebody for their sake. He didn't like the fact that he had to do that. He felt guilty about it. He felt bad. It was like he didn't feel worthy. I don't think he ever feels worthy of the task that is given him. I think that humility is sure lacking these days!

AW: How did you land the role of Pastor Kingsman?

CB: I just played another kind of pastor in a film called Hellbenders with Clifton Collins, Jr. He called me up and said, "I gotta send you this script that my friend Slash is producing. I think you'd be perfect for it!" I really enjoyed the script. I think it hit all the right notes as far as the horror conventions that you had to have, but it also had a much deeper heart, much deeper soul, which all the best horror films really have. They're really about social issues and human choices. I love that and I love putting that in a supernatural setting because you can get away with even harsher messages with tougher morals.

    AW: How did production go?

CB: It was a good set! I wish we had more money, I'll tell you that too! If we had more time – because money relates to time – it's not really about money, it's about time. It was a good, fun cast. We did the best we could with the amount of time we had and the resources we had. I think every one of us would do it again. That's more the norm than not in a film. It's always a happy adventure to make a film, I think.

AW: I have to ask – did you get to meet Slash?

CB: Oh, yeah! It was great to meet him! He's an icon. There's only a few [people] I get star struck by. I can say "hi" to Morgan Freeman, then go into the other room to get a drink, but Slash I would stare at so I was a little nervous about him! My son is a big Michael Jackson fan, so I said Slash played guitar for this Michael Jackson tribute thing and I said maybe you can call him up and talk to him! My son had no idea who Slash was except he thought he was Michael Jackson's guitar player. So he had all these questions about Jackson and Slash got this huge kick out of it.

AW: What is your most memorable working experience?

CB: A better question is "What is your most unmemorable one?", but then I couldn't answer it because I wouldn't be able to remember it! There's a lot of good memories. I remember doing Nothing Left To Fear and it was so damn hot where we were in Louisiana during the summer. I did a film after that in the same place in the fall, with Jason Statham. I was talking to Jason and I said, "Aw, man I swore I would never come back here and do another movie because it was so miserably hot and awful when I filmed There's Nothing Left To Fear." And he looks at me and he goes, "You never film here in the summer!" I've done ten films here in the last six months. I did one in the summer and I said I would never do another film in the summer. You do it in the fall, you do it in the winter, you do it in the spring, but you get out of here by June.

AW: Which of your roles do you get remembered for the most?

CB: Depends how old the people are. I've had people come up and say stuff to me about Bad Boys, stuff about Cowboys and Aliens, "Carnivale", Highlander. I'm kind of surprised that people even recognise me from these anymore, I've got so grey and chunky. It depends.

AW: You get cast as the villain a lot. Is this something you've come to embrace?

CB: The villains are the most interesting, aren't they? They're very complex. They're often not really villains. They are often like Pastor Kingsman – they're just doing the best they can in horrible circumstances and forced to do horrible things – or they have a world view that is unconventional and believe that they are justified in what they are doing and they're doing it all for the right reasons. The best villains are always reflections of what's going on in society at that time. If you can tap into that psyche and figure out what that is. In Shawshank, the guy was such an asshole, but the reason that he was an asshole – was that he was an asshole! (laughs) I found a picture of a guy that had a scowl on his face and I think, in the book, Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption, they talk about the fact that Byran Hadley died of stomach cancer. It's like, what kind of guy dies of stomach cancer? What kind of guy is so tied up that he allows that stuff to grow in his gut? What does that turn you into and how long has it been growing there? There's always a reason. You just have to tap into that.

Dread Central would like to extend our deepest thanks to Clancy for taking the time out to speak with us. Nothing Left To Fear is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, On-Demand, and On-Download.

New L.A. Slasher Artwork Bleeds the Freak

New L.A. Slasher Artwork Bleeds the FreakAround these parts we're really looking forward to the upcoming flick L.A. Slasher. If you're wondering why, then brothers and sisters, you haven't been paying attention. Read on for details and some new artwork.

Our own Sean Decker co-produced, and the film features cameos by Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede), Barbara Nedeljakova (Hostel), Carlee Baker (Lucky McKee's The Woman), and Allison Kyler (Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2).

    From the Press Release
Post-production on the independent feature film L.A. Slasher, directed by Martin Owen and produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger (Girls Against Boys, The Alphabet Killer), has been completed.

It stars Danny Trejo (Machete), Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Dave Bautista (Riddick), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Drake Bell (“Drake & Josh”), Brooke Hogan (“Hogan Knows Best”), Tori Black (Not Another Celebrity Movie), and the voice of Andy Dick (“NewsRadio”).

A biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous, L.A. Slasher explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent - purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior. Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the L.A. Slasher publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars, while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.

Says producer Wright, “Celebrity seems to have become a race to see who can push the boundaries of degrading themselves the most and spin it into profit. It seems if you achieve infamy online, regardless of the moral and ethical boundaries crossed, you will be rewarded with a reality TV show, endorsements and branding. Actions that were once considered shameful are now celebrated and rewarded. The L.A. Slasher is here to end that.”

Added writer and director Owen, “Hopefully we'll tap into the zeitgeist of tabloid pop culture with L.A. Slasher. It was my intent to do so, in a fun, super-stylized, neon-lit, hyper-kinetic kind of way, with a character I think people will respond to and really, really like. I had a great time making this film, and I think that audiences, particularly those that find America's cultural obsession with faux-celebrity as ridiculous as I do, will have a great time watching it.”

While we await distribution news on the film, we have found an L.A. Slasher social presence on Twitter (@LA_Slasher) and on Facebook.
