John Fallon's The Shelter Enters Post-Production; New ImageWe've been following John Fallon's directorial debut for some time here on Dread Central, and we're happy to report that The Shelter has wrapped filming and is now balls deep into the post-production process. Read on for details and to check out a brand new still!

From the Press Release
John Fallon's directorial debut, The Shelter, starring Michael Paré (The Lincoln Lawyer, Streets of Fire), Gayle James, Rachel Whittle, Lauren Thomas, Brigette Rose, and Amy Wickenheiser, enters post-production this week.

The film was financed by Bruise Productions and JoBlo Movie Productions, and Holbrook Multi Media will be handling the post duties. Bobby Holbrook II acted as the director of photography on the film, and Fallon had this to say as to why he went back to Holbrook to finish the picture:

"Working with Holbrook Multi Media on The Shelter production was a pleasure. I never had this much fun on a set. They were resourceful, knowledgeable, relentless, and brought with them an endearing positive energy. I connected with their stellar work ethic; hence, with that and the fact that they understood the type of picture we were making, I decided to go with them [for] post-production. We start this week, and I am beyond excited!"

Bobby Holbrook II will continue on the movie as chief editor and colorist along with other Holbrook support staff.

"The Holbrook experience on the shoot of The Shelter was fun," said Bobby. "Lots of fun, and [it] confirms our belief that with a great story, outstanding director, and experienced actors, all that's left is the right equipment and a crew dedicated to not just doing their jobs but to the film itself, and amazing things can happen. It was a pleasure working with everyone involved during production, and I am thrilled to continue this with John into post."

John Fallon directed the film from his own screenplay, Donny Broussard (Little Houses) and Fallon produced the picture, Erin Bennett was the production manager, Shawn Knippelberg will be scoring the film, while Thomas Wilson (James Wan’s The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2) is handling the film’s VFX.

Synopsis:
On a star-filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas (Michael Paré) finds shelter for the night when he falls upon a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls on in, thinking he just caught a lucky break, and for a while it would appear as though he did. But soon enough he realizes that the house won’t let him leave, as its doors are all locked while its windows cannot be opened or broken. Destiny has brought Thomas to this place. What does it want from him? Will he survive the ordeal?

Once post is completed, The Shelter will hit the festival circuit and will be seeking worldwide distribution. The film will have a presence at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. For more info in the meantime, keep it locked on the official The Shelter Facebook page.

Ghostbusters III Still Expected to Happen Without Harold Ramis

Ghostbusters III Still Expected to Happen Without Harold RamisWhile we're all still mourning from the announcement that the wonderful Harold Ramis has passed on, Sony Pictures chimed in today with a quick update on the status of the long talked about Ghostbusters III.

According to THR, director Ivan Reitman is scheduled to meet with Sony production brass in the coming days to assess how to move forward on the project that is in active development, according to sources. Ramis, who starred in the 1984 original and 1989 sequel alongside Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, was poised to appear in a third outing in a cameo role -- like Murray and Aykroyd -- that set up a baton-passing to a trio of newcomers.

The script, written by "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, will now need to be revamped.

"There will be some repercussions," says a project insider.

A studio source downplayed the impact on the project, however, insisting that Ramis was involved in Ghostbusters III only minimally. Ramis, who co-wrote the first two Ghostbusters, held a first-dollar gross stake in the third film along with Reitman, Aykroyd, and Murray -- a position that will revert to his estate. But no deals have been inked yet, and there have been signs that the principals instead would take break-even cuts in order to get the film off the ground.

"He was always great to bounce something off of, and that will certainly be missed," the source says of Ramis. "But it won't affect the script."

Even before Ramis' death, the script had not progressed enough for the film to begin shooting in 2014. Now, the studio will have to adjust without an on-screen assist from Ramis' Dr. Egon Spengler.

A Release Date Given to The Conjuring 2Given the box office success of last year's The Conjuring, it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. Today Warner Bros. has set a release date for that sequel, known tentatively as The Conjuring 2. Read on for the when, kids!

According to THR, The Conjuring 2, which will not be directed by James Wan (it doesn’t have a director at all at this stage), will open October 23, 2015. No other movies are on that date at this point in time, although Universal is opening up Guillermo del Toro’s Gothic horror movie Crimson Peak on October 16.

New Line has also slotted an October 3, 2014, date for an untitled horror movie. The company did not disclose details of the project, but since the date is under eight months away, speculation is running rampant that it could be the currently filming Conjuring spin-off Annabelle or the Wan-produced Crawlspace.

We shall see.

Deadline reports that David Anders (pictured) has been cast in Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero’s CW drama pilot "iZombie." He'll star alongside Alexandra Krosney and Malcolm Goodwin.

"iZombie" is a supernatural crime procedural that centers on Liv, a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective (Goodwin), she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.

Goodwin’s Clive is a detective who recently received a promotion from Vice to Homicide but has been floundering for his first two months and is in desperate need of making a case. Though dubious at first about Liv’s “psychic” powers, she demonstrates too much accuracy for him not to take her seriously.

Krosney plays Peyton, Liv’s best friend and roommate who is baffled by Liv’s recent behavior and feels like they’re drifting apart. Anders plays the show’s bad guy, Blaine, an entitled rich kid who bites off more than he can chew in the drug business.

She Kills Ron Bonk With a Supernatural STD-Infected Vagina

She Kills Ron Bonk With a Supernatural STD-Infected VaginaMany years ago my life was changed. Not by some tragedy or epiphany, but by a movie so wretched and boring it lives in infamy as what is no doubt the worst movie I have ever seen. That title is held by Ron Bonk's Strawberry Estates, and now... over a decade later THE BONK IS BACK!

Don't get me wrong... Ron is a great guy and a gentleman, and I'm sure he's learned a thing or 10k about filmmaking since that flick was unleashed upon my forever scarred psyche. Even I have to admit his latest effort, She Kills, looks like a boatload of fun.

Judge for yourselves while watching the trailer and digging on the artwork.

Ya know what? Even if She Kills is just okay, it enabled me to write what is probably my favorite headline ever. Well played, Mr. Bonk. Well played.

Written and directed by Bonk, the film stars Jennie Russo, Trey Harrison, Michael Merchant, Jody Pucello, David Royal, and Martha Zemsta.

She Kills tells the story of Sadie, a woman who, after her life is destroyed by a gang called "The Touchers," sets out for revenge equipped with a special superhuman power she previously didn't know she possessed.

Jim Wynorski's Classic B-Movie The Lost Empire Heading to DVD in April

Jim Wynorski's Classic B-Movie The Lost Empire Heading to DVD in AprilBack in 1983 Jim Wynorski shot his first film, The Lost Empire, which has itself been "lost" for several years. Finally, on April 22nd it's getting its long-awaited home video release on DVD.

From the Press Release:
In 1983 a young director stepped behind the camera for the first time and began to shoot a film which he thought might be both his first and his last. An ardent fan of "B" cinema, Jim Wynorski decided to cram this film with everything he loved.

"I got my first break doing The Lost Empire for Plitt Theatres," says Jim Wynorski. "The late owner, Henry Plitt (a decorated war hero), wanted to make a low budget sci-fi action picture as a tax loss. I never knew that when I made the show, so I put my heart and soul into the project. When it finally got completed, Plitt actually liked it enough to give it a wide theatrical release - where it actually made some money," comments Wynorski.

That was followed by an initial release on VHS. As a result of a series of corporate changes at Plitt, The Lost Empire was set aside and lost to generations of genre movie fans. Wynorski's career took off and resulted in an immense body of work. "It was always a deep regret of mine that my first film was caught in this limbo," says Wynorski. "For years I did all kinds of detective work trying to get my film seen."

In 2007 Wynorski began working with Indiana-based producer Bill Dever. Dever was more than familiar with Wynorski's work and was by his own admission "a big fan." Off and on they began searching for The Lost Empire. "We had a lucky break when we discovered who purchased the assets of Plitt," says Dever. "From there the pieces fell into place; for me it was an honor to be involved in the resurrection of The Lost Empire."

They re-acquired the rights, and Wynorski went to work readying his first born to the world for the second time. Dever engaged the sponsorship of Doremi Labs, a leader in digital cinema technology. Doremi has been in the forefront of leading the digital cinema revolution. "Doremi not only is a company deeply involved financially in digital cinema," says Michael Archer, VP of Digital Cinema for Doremi, "we also care deeply for the legacy and tradition of cinema, and for us this was a natural fit."

In the fall of 2013 projection lamps throughout North America illuminated screens with Wynorski's vision with the help of some friends and the dedication of a company very much aware of the history of the industry it serves.

And now it's heading to DVD on April 22nd via MVD Entertainment Group and Polyscope Media Group. The film stars Melanie Vincz, Raven De La Croix, Angela Aames, Paul Coufos, Angus Scrimm, Robert Tessier, Linda Shayne, Blackie Dammett, Kenneth Tobey, and Angelique Pettyjohn.

Help Megafoot Stomp a Mudhole in Someone's AssThe idea of a Mech-Bigfoot hybrid alone is enough to make us all sweaty with anticipation, and that's just what we'll get should Rolfe Kanefsky's new film Megafoot ever see the light of day. That's where you come in!

We're very selective about which crowd-funded projects we cover around here, but this one looks too damned cool to not try and help with.

If the striking image is enough to whet your appetite, then head on over to the Megafoot IndieGoGo page and check out all the cool things you can get by shelling out some cash!

The concept – based on an original idea and story by Justin Martell (producer of Troma's Return to Nuke 'Em High: Volumes 1 & 2) and with a screenplay by Rolfe Kanefsky (award-winning screenwriter/director of There’s Nothing Out There, The Hazing, and Nightmare Man), who is also attached to direct - was to create the ultimate warrior using enhanced chemical and engineering technology. When it was declared that the end product would be used exclusively in conjunction with the U.S. Military, Colonel Hankle and his team immediately took control. A research facility in the backwoods of the American Midwest was built, and a top-notch group of scientists was dispatched – along with some healthy, willing volunteers – to commence the operation. Alas, the human subjects proved to be incompatible with the procedure. All seemed lost… and then we made the most incredible discovery.

A new type of creature. GIGANTANTHROPUS CRYPTICUS, more commonly known as a Sasquatch, or Bigfoot. We thought it was a mere myth, a projection of man’s fantastical imagination, but we were wrong. They exist.

Just the confirmation that these beasts inhabit this world would alone shake the foundation of science across the globe. But we could not pass up this amazing opportunity: fate, it seemed, was smiling upon us. Our endeavors would not be wasted. These hairy mammals proved to be a far more accurate match to our program than mere humans. By combining a unique combination of nature and cybernetics, we will produce the most dangerous being on the planet. The quest to create the ultimate warrior shall continue. Project: MEGAFOOT.
