Attention New York! Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn has been developing their Signature Series program for some time, including revisiting the more mainstream ‘70s pornography for Nitehawk Naughties that will continue into the summer months.

Now, their One Nite Only series will highlight nine upcoming films that will feature artist and music documentaries, re-releases and anniversaries, restorations and classic repertory films.

Tonight at 9:30 P.M., Nitehawk presents a special One Nite Only screening of the new horror documentary Killer Legends in celebration of its upcoming March 16 premiere on the Chiller Network. The event includes a Q&A with filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills moderated by Fangoria’s Sam Zimmerman. If you enjoyed the documentary Cropsey from Zeman and are in or around Brooklyn this evening, Killer Legends looks to explore the true origins of urban legends on a much grander scale than the more intimate, personal exploration in Cropsey.

Killer Legends is a hair-raising film that focuses on four timeless urban legends that continue to haunt the psyche of the American public. This horror documentary follows filmmakers Joshua Zeman (Cropsey) and Rachel Mills as they investigate the true crimes that may have spawned these urban legends, while exploring how these myths evolved and why we continue to believe. The documentary probes the following legends: The Candyman, The Baby-Sitter and the Man Upstairs, The Hookman, and The Killer Clown.

Killer Legends is produced by Gulp Pictures and Storyville Entertainment in association with Gigantic Pictures. Killer Legends premieres Sunday, March 16th at 8pm ET on the Chiller Network.

Come Face-to-Face with Danger in this Trailer for EnormousThe live-action pilot for an adaptation of Enormous, in which the world as we know it has ended, launches next Thursday (March 20th) on Machinima; and we have a look at its trailer and artwork right here.

The pilot/short film is based on the critically-acclaimed graphic novel of the same name that launched last year. Written by Tim Daniel and drawn by Mehdi Cheggour, Enormous tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world in which massive insect-like beasts have taken over the world and humans are now the bottom of the food chain.

The creative minds of director BenDavid Grabinski (short film Cost of Living), writer Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter), and producer Adrian Askarieh (Hitman, Agent 47) are taking Enormous from the page to the screen.

You'll find the goods below plus synopses of both the film and the graphic novel. Be sure to check back in a week for the full video. After the pilot debuts, the plan is to turn Enormous into a full-fledged series that can play on various digital platforms the company appears on, including the new Xbox One.

Enormous Short Film Synopsis:
The film picks up years after E Day, the worldwide attack of massive insect like beasts, as the remaining humans from all walks of life must band together to survive and fight back against the monstrous invaders. Viewers are introduced to Ellen (Ceren Lee), a mother who has lost her child, and watch as she prepares to play a major role in the human resistance. The cast also includes Steve Braun (Wrong Turn 2) and Erica Gimpel ("Veronica Mars").

About the Enormous Graphic Novel:
Enormous tells the full tale of the aftermath of a vast ecological cataclysm which spawns colossal beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Humankind stares down imminent extinction, and the only law is to hunt or be hunted. It’s survival of the biggest as the earth-shaking sci-fi action adventure continues.

As the last vestige of humankind spirals towards annihilation, Ellen Grace leads the only remaining North American Search & Recovery Team through the deadly giant monster-infested streets of Phoenix. However, she soon encounters another predator far more dangerous than the other-worldly creatures stalking the desolate city: her fellow humans.

Corrosion is currently the number one selling noir novel on Amazon and revolves around a battle-scarred soldier making his way through the backwater towns of Colorado to get back to a woman, who might be his loved one or his next victim — or both. It is in the vein of Primal Fear, Se7en, and No Country for Old Men.

Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster, the Sea Monster, and Gigan: Blu-ray Artwork Revealed!

Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster, the Sea Monster, and Gigan: Blu-ray Artwork Revealed! We told you already that Section23 Films' new sub-label Kraken Releasing (a sister label to Switchblade Pictures) is getting ready to release three vintage Godzilla flicks for the first time ever on U.S. Blu-ray. Now we have a look at the artwork for you!

First up is the 1971 psychedelic anti-pollution daikaiju epic Godzilla vs. Hedorah, better known to American audiences by its Westernized title Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster.

From its opening “Save the Earth” theme song to the WTF finale where Godzilla flies by rocketing himself through the air in the fetal position via his atomic breath, Godzilla’s ecological smackdown with a shape-shifting sludge monster dubbed Hedorah remains one of the most memorable outings in the annals of Godzilladom. But don’t tell that to Toho; the head of the company was hospitalized during the time of filming, and when he saw the finished product, he was so appalled he had director Yoshimitsu Banno all but blackballed. You might recognize Banno’s name as stories of him trying to get a Smog Monster sequel made have frequently popped up for over a decade now.

The hi-def treatment is also in the works for an outing that sees Big G going native on an island in the South Pacific where he contends with the colossal crustacean Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. That’s the international title for this 1966 sequel we in the U.S. better know as Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster.

This is something of an oddball Godzilla film in that it wasn’t originally intended to be a Godzilla flick at all. Toho wanted to make a follow-up to their wacky King Kong Escapes, but rights issues led to the King of the Monsters replacing Kong at the last minute. If you’ve ever seen this one, you may have noticed that a lot of Godzilla’s behavior is very non-Zill-ish. I mean, since when does Godzilla sit around letting pretty native girls toss fresh fruit in his mouth? Since when does Godzilla eat fruit, period?

So prepare to see Godzilla sleeping inside a mountain until getting awoken Frankenstein-style, sitting on his butt as a beautiful island maiden lulls him into slumber with a series of fruity 3-point shots, and doing battle with a giant vulture, a terrorist organization named Red Bamboo, and a monstrous mutant lobster. Mothra and her twin fairies even factor into the proceedings for good measure.

And then there’s 1972’s Godzilla vs. Gigan. Considering Kraken’s penchant for alternative titles, I’m rather amazed they aren’t releasing this one by its alternate Godzilla on Monster Island moniker. Come to think of it, Godzilla vs. Gigan is really more of the alternate title of this one, domestically.

One of the loopier entries in the franchise (and that’s saying something following on the heels of Smog Monster), the nonsensical plot of this sequel has hippies and a manga artist uncovering an insidious plot by extraterrestrial cockroaches disguised as businessmen building an amusement park as a cover for their world domination scheme, the centerpiece of which is a giant tower built to look like Godzilla that can fire death rays from its teeth. The actual Godzilla and his spiky quadruped sidekick Anguirus tag team wrestle on behalf of mankind against the alien invader's hench-monsters Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, and a new foe named Gigan that looks like a cyclopean cyborg-chicken-thingamajig with giant hooks for hands and a buzzsaw built into its belly.

In perhaps the dumbest scene in Godzilla movie history, the alien roaches use a device that allows them to translate Godzilla's and Anguirus' roars into human language. That alone makes this worth the price of admission.

Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Ebirah, Horror of the Deep, and Godzilla vs. Gigan will include both the English dubbed and original Japanese versions with English subtitles. Kraken Releasing will also provide the films on DVD for those that have yet to upgrade to the magic of Blu-ray. Full specs are yet to come. Look for these online and in stores on May 6th. Pre-order below.

Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster / Godzilla vs. Hedorah

Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster / Ebirah Horror of the Deep

Exclusive: Tobin Bell Talks Dark House and More!

Exclusive: Tobin Bell Talks Dark House and More! The director of the Jeepers Creepers franchise, Victor Salva, has teamed up with Saw's Tobin Bell for Dark House, a tale about a father who travels to a seemingly abandoned mansion in order to learn about his son’s dark psychic gifts.

Instead, Bell’s character, Seth, a mysterious woodsman, leaves them wrapped up in a journey about the true nature of fate.

Tobin Bell was kind enough to speak with us about his long and fascinating career and why he was drawn to the themes found inside the Dark House.

DC: I know you’ve been interviewed quite a bit in the past by guys like me about your experiences in the horror genre, but I would love to talk about your entire career and your time in New York. How did you first get your start in the business?

TB: Alan Parker hired me to do Mississippi Burning in 1987. That was really the first major film that I did. Prior to that, I’d been doing Off-Broadway plays and doing what actors do, which is try and make a living. But that kind of got me started, and that was a great project to get started with because Mississippi Burning was an important film.

DC: Absolutely. I know you were involved with the productions of Manhattan and King of Comedy, and just being on those sets with those filmmakers must have been a great learning experience.

TB: I did 35 films as a stand-in and as an extra before I really ever spoke in a film. To give you an example of one job, I worked in Sidney Lumet’s film The Verdict for two weeks as a courtroom reporter. It was a great job. I got to sit in a courtroom and watch Sidney work with Paul Newman and James Mason and some terrific actors. I always loved those jobs because you got to be close to the artists and close to the talent. I was wanting to find out from a more realistic perspective whether this was something I could do, if I could be one of them. I worked with Sydney Pollack as a waiter and Scorsese in King of Comedy. I had lots of experience and training being that guy in front of the camera.

DC: How was your time on set with Victor Salva? Was it a fun set as opposed to something like Tootsie, where it was reportedly quite volatile?

TB: I heard that, too. I was never really privy to that, but I heard that about Sydney and Dustin [Hoffman]. They’re both very committed artists and that happens and sometimes great films come out of that relationship. Being in Mississippi with Victor on the set of Dark House, we had a bunch of actors who couldn’t have been more cooperative and talented and committed to what were long nights. You’ve got Luke Kleintank in it, who is an up-and-comer in this genre, and others. I just did another film with him called Phantom Halo. Alex McKenna is a woman you’re going to see a lot of moving forward. So, yeah, I really loved working in Greenville, Mississippi, and loved working with Victor and everybody in the cast. This guy named Don FauntLeRoy, who was the cinematographer, just did amazing work, and the film looks terrific. I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a forest trying to shoot something, but he just did a great job and has worked with Victor on a number of different projects over the years. So I’m hoping that Dark House is going to draw some of the horror fans in because it’s an intricate and action-filled story with lots of twists and turns.

DC: Speaking of the action, I wasn’t expecting there to be so much action in this. Was it a nice change of pace to get in on some of the action as opposed to being the one who orchestrates it?

TB: Yeah, that of course has been one of the hallmarks about the Saw films, that John Kramer is sort of the hand behind it all, and in this case I’m on-site and ready for bear. I liked being in the Deep South, and I loved being in the woods so it was all good.

DC: Your career to me is pretty fascinating because most actors start in the horror genre and then go more mainstream when they achieve greater stardom. Do you feel like you’ve done the exact opposite, and do you think horror has gone more mainstream because of the success you’ve had and enjoyed?

TB: Do I think horror is more mainstream now? Yes, I do. I think the envelope is always being pushed further in terms of what can be put on screen, and I think that more people go to horror films now. The success of the Saw films... it bridges languages also. Saw is popular in the Far East; it’s popular in South America and all over Europe. Yeah, the whole thing about genre is it gets talked about a lot, but when actors become actors, you become an actor to play as many different kinds of characters as you can. Even with John Kramer or with Seth in Dark House, I’m always playing someone I try to bring some dimension to that’s not in the script necessarily. They don’t need me to play out exactly what impression the script creates. They need me to fill in this character and make him as multidimensional as all human beings are. No one is all one thing or something else. That’s one of the nice things about Dark House, that there’s some mystery as to who this guy is. That mystery pervades the film once you meet him, and I think there’s a really fascinating underlying story in this film about good and evil in the world. [Seth] is a working guy from the Deep South and he’s been around for thousands of years and he can look lots of different kinds of ways and if we ever do another one of these, he will.

DC: You mentioned how an actor is always looking for different roles to play. Is there still a type of role out there that you’d really like to try and play at some point?

TB: Oh yeah, good question, Drew. I’m looking for the most complex people that I can find, and obviously it has a lot to do with the script. I don’t think I’ve actually done my best work yet. I think that playing John Kramer was a terrific opportunity and I was able to do some really great stuff with that guy and I very much appreciate that. And playing Seth, I felt the same way. I felt I was able to create another kind of character and another kind of texture. But what kind of character am I looking for? Someone who’s smart and sensitive and cares. He can still be powerful and edgy, but very often when you’re a powerful, edgy guy in a film, they don’t develop the other aspects of you. So I’m waiting to do the love scenes, ya know?

DC: Well, I will look forward to seeing you in some sex scenes in the future, and in the meantime, good luck with Dark House!

Dark House is now available on VOD and Blu-ray and hits theaters in NY and LA TODAY, March 14.

Dark House, which follows the terrifying road trip of a young man in search of his dark past, is the freshman effort of LA-based Charles Agron Productions. It is directed by Victor Salva, who co-wrote the script with producer Charles Agron, based on a story by Agron. In addition to producing the film and co-writing with Salva, Agron plays a lead role.

Along with Bell, up-and-coming young actor Luke Kleintank (“Pretty Little Liars,” 1000 to 1), Alex McKenna (“Crossing Jordan”, “Dallas”), Zack Ward (Postal), and multiple award-winner Lesley-Anne Down (“Upstairs/Downstairs”) star.

Synopsis
When Nick Di Santo learns that his father is not only alive but can possibly reveal the origin of his son's dark gift, he sets out on a trip that takes him to an abandoned mansion he thought only existed in his childhood imagination.

New Gamera Movie Coming in 2015

New Gamera Movie For 2015Word has just hit the wire that in honor of his 50th anniversary, everyone's favorite fire-breathing turtle, Gamera, will once again be gracing the big screen in 2015. We eagerly pray for the return of Guiron as well!

According to the Anime News Network, Japanese retailer Amiami is listing the summer 2014 issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Tokusatsu Newtype magazine for release on May 16th. According to the retailer, this issue will have a lead feature with a scoop on "a new Gamera launching. Breaking a long silence, that famous Gamera will finally return! Along with it the article will see the earliest unveiling of imageboards [pre-production art]!"

The giant turtle monster Gamera made his debut in Daiei's 1965 film Daikaijū Gamera (Gamera the Giant Monster). His last feature film was the completely horrendous kid-friendly Chiisaki Yūsha-tachi Gamera (Gamera the Brave) in 2006.

If you missed out on the massively kick-ass 90s trilogy of films which consisted of Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995), Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion (1996), and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999), do yourselves a favor and see these flicks now! You can get all three of 'em on Blu-ray for just $8.00 (order below)! They're just incredible. In fact, the only thing wrong with them is that Isis ends on a cliffhanger that's addressed within the first few minutes of Gamera the Brave, and then this particular storyline is put out to pasture as a means to reboot the franchise for children. Le sigh!

First Details and Premiere Info for Corey Norman's The Hanover HouseMaine-based director Corey Norman will be debuting his first feature, The Hanover House, at the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival in April; and he dropped us a line with more info on the film, including its trailer. Check it out!

Starring Brian Chamberlain and Casey Turner and marking the return of Anne Bobby (Clive Barker's Nightbreed) to the horror genre, The Hanover House is directed by Norman and co-written and produced him and Haley Norman.

Norman told us, "The Hanover House was filmed over the course of 16 days in January and May of 2013 using a RED Epic camera. One thing that sets the production of The Hanover House apart from other haunted house films on the market is the fact that we filmed in an actual haunted house. Built in 1883, this farmhouse, which is located in the mountains of western Maine, has been the home of supernatural phenomena for the last hundred years. Former residents have been shaken awake by a full body apparition of an old man, seen a full body apparition of a young boy playing on the stairs, seen floating orbs of energy above them in their beds, and had objects removed from the walls and placed in other areas of the house. At least two former babysitters refuse to ever step foot in the house again."

The Hanover House premieres on April 5th with a repeat screening on April 6th at the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival in Maine, and per Norman it is currently close to selling out so if you're in the area and want to attend, be sure to hit the link for all the details.

For more info on the film, visit The Hanover House on Facebook.

Synopsis:
Returning from his father’s funeral, Robert Foster is faced with the unimaginable: He hits a young girl with his car. In a desperate attempt to save her life, he seeks help at a nearby farmhouse. Little does Robert know that the house has been waiting for him his entire life. Once inside its walls, Robert must overcome his own personal demons in an attempt to save both his wife and himself. But there’s a problem... only one may leave The Hanover House alive.

Tye Sheridan First Scout Cast to Fight Zombies

Tye Sheridan First Scout Cast to Fight ZombiesNever mind helping old ladies cross the street or any other good deeds that the Boy Scouts are known for. For our money any Scout worth his salt will have to fend off hordes of flesh-eating ghouls before we give him a merit badge.

According to THR, Tye Sheridan, the actor who broke through playing opposite Matthew McConaughey in last year's indie drama Mud, has nabbed his first studio movie. The young thespian has signed on for the lead role in Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, Paramount's horror comedy to be directed by Christopher Landon.

The story centers on three high school Boy Scouts who must use their skills to battle vicious zombies after their small town faces an outbreak. Sheridan will play the budding honors student who is handsome and athletic but doesn't know it yet, still lacking the confidence needed to talk to girls he likes.

Production is set to begin in spring 2014 after Landon polishes the screenplay. The film is being produced by Todd Garner and his Broken Road Productions, Andy Fickman and Betsy Sullenger of Oops Doughnuts, and Bryan Brucks and his Brucks Entertainment. Broken Road’s Sean Robins is exec producer.

We'll be back soon with more, scout's honor!

Exclusive: Director Leigh Janiak Talks Honeymoon

Exclusive: Director Leigh Janiak Talks HoneymoonDirector Leigh Janiak of the much talked about SXSW Midnighter Honeymoon (review) was cool enough speak to us about her little film with big ideas and why Gareth Edwards’ Monsters might be the reason that the film exists at all.

Honeymoon will also be playing during the Tribeca Film Fest next month so you have a chance to catch it there if you missed down in Austin, Texas.

DC: Do you like being a part of the Midnighters slate at a festival? Do you think it highlights the film more, and do you mind it premiering so late at night?

LJ: No, I love it; I think it’s actually great. The movie isn’t a typical horror movie, but it’s definitely genre so I’m thrilled to be included with the Midnighters. I’m just really excited.

DC: Just to separate you from the pack a little bit from the other films at the festival, how have you been describing the film, and what led you down the path to making it?

LJ: I like thinking about it as an intimate, grounded genre movie. I think that’s the best way to describe it. It’s more like a sci-fi psychological thriller. My writing partner had been writing scripts for years and doing the whole, ‘We’re going to go pitch to production companies’ and doing that whole side of the business. It was around 2009 that I had seen Tiny Furniture and Monsters, and both of those resonated with me. That was when we made the decision that the next project we do is going to be something I am going to make no matter what. I was so inspired by Monsters particularly because the things that they did with that budget were just unbelievable.

DC: I’m glad you mentioned Monsters; I love that film. It’s crazy that Gareth Edwards is now directing Godzilla.

LJ: Can you believe that trailer? It’s awesome; I’m so excited about it.

DC: Maybe you’ll end up going down the same path and wind up directing Mothra.

LJ: Yeah, exactly. I would be thrilled to follow in his footsteps.

DC: It’s probably a little bit of a heady question, but what really got me into horror and kept me coming back to the genre is the social commentary. Something like Alien, for example, coming after Roe v. Wade in the late ‘70s with a woman as the lead and a xenomorph that impregnates you; that film had some subtext about abortion.

LJ: Totally.

DC: So, in Honeymoon are you saying something about the horrors of starting a family, or is there anything deeper going on that you’d like people to pick up on?

LJ: Well, listen, without getting too pretentious about it, for me, this is an intimate Body Snatchers movie. I think that if there’s some kind of social context to that, it just has to do with what the nature of identity is and how that’s changing in our society today.

DC: About getting too pretentious, a lot of directors say that sometimes, and I think it’s great to talk about if there really is an intention. I don’t think it necessarily turns anybody off.

LJ: Yeah, and I think it’s actually... if we want to get really pretentious, it’s this idea of the uncanny and how something extremely familiar can become unfamiliar and horrific. And I think that’s actually the center of the movie, and the relationship between Paul and Bea is how someone you think you know better than anyone else can become essentially a monster.

Written and directed by Janiak, the film stars Rose Leslie ("Game of Thrones") and Harry Treadaway (Control).

Synopsis
Young newlyweds Paul and Bea travel to remote lake country for their honeymoon where the promise of private romance awaits them. Shortly after arriving, Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. As she becomes more distant and her behavior increasingly peculiar, Paul begins to suspect something more sinister than sleepwalking took place in the woods.

First Leprechaun: Origins Footage Will Be Revealed on St. Patrick's DayIt's been awhile since we've heard anything about Leprechaun: Origins, which is set to reboot the always fun Leprechaun franchise. Though we've got nothing for ya today, we do have an exciting announcement to share so read on for details!

We've just learned that, perfectly timed with St. Patrick's Day, WWE Studios will be unveiling the very first clip from the film, which stars WWE superstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl as the title character, this coming Monday night.

Check out the announcement video below, and look for the film to be released sometime this summer!

Leprechaun: Origins also stars Stephanie Bennett, Teach Grant (The Tall Man, Devour, Repeaters, “Cult”), Bruce Blain (“Supernatural”), Adam Boys, and Brendan Fletcher ("The Killing,"Freddy vs. Jason, 13 Eerie).

The original Leprechaun, which featured comedic elements, followed an evil leprechaun searching for his pot of gold while avoiding four-leaf clovers. “The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre; but at the same time this is really being played for scares,” said WWE president Michael Luisi in an earlier interview.

Producers are keeping details of Harris Wilkinson's script under wraps to keep the franchise's new direction a secret.
