Taste and Then Talk Back to Stuart Gordon in Los AngelesStuart Gordon has brought us many classic movies throughout his career, and recently his stage productions of Nevermore and Re-Animator: The Musical have lit up the stage wherever they've played. Now we have some new details about his latest stage play, Taste, and more!

From the Press Release
You’re invited to the most disturbing dinner party of the year. Based on a shocking true story, two men meet online and make a unique arrangement: One will kill, cook, and eat the other. Taste imagines their first and only meeting, told in real time, in a working kitchen.

In 2011, acclaimed horror director Stuart Gordon brought his feature-film cult classic Re–Animator to the stage with the inspired songs of composer Mark Nutter and created a singing, dancing Re-Animator: The Musical. The hilarious, blood-drenched show ran for six months at the Steve Allen Theater before triumphant runs at the New York Musical Theater Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was honored by the Ovation Awards, the LA Drama Critics Circle, and won six LA Weekly awards, including BEST MUSICAL. Gordon’s earlier stage work includes Nevermore…An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe starring Jeffrey Combs, which earned rave reviews on both coasts and is currently touring the country.

Now audiences can be among the first to witness Gordon and playwright Benjamin Brand’s unique vision of an all-consuming relationship. Warning: Due to strong sexual content and imagery, no one under the age of 18 will be admitted.

Taste stars Chris L. McKenna as Vic, the man who has chosen to be eaten. He was last seen onstage in Re-Animator: The Musical and played the title role in Gordon’s film King of the Ants. Donal Thoms-Cappello is Terry, the gourmet cook with a taste for the bizarre. A company member of Sacred Fools Theater, Donal was seen last season in Watson and the Dark Arts of Harry Houdini as the famous escape artist.

Special effects will be provided by Tony Doublin, who won an LA Drama Critics Award and LA Weekly Award for creating the wonders of the Splash Zone for Re-Animator: The Musical. Gabe Bartalos, best known for his film work with director Frank Henenlotter and Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle, will provide special makeup effects.

The Sacred Fools Theater Company is dedicated to fostering a dynamic, empowered artistic community in Los Angeles. Notable previous productions include the Buster Keaton comedic biography Stoneface, the award-winning action-comedy Watson, the ongoing late-night episodic extravaganza Serial Killers, the award-winning musical Louis & Keely, and recent hits Neverwhere and Absolutely Filthy. Run solely by the ensembled artists, the company’s smashing 17th season continues its ongoing commitment to the development of new plays and projects which challenge traditional expectations of the theatrical experience. Its goal is to produce work, which invigorates, enlightens and entertains.

Directed by Stuart Gordon
Written by Benjamin Brand

Eliza Dushku and Kevin Tancharoen Talk The Gable 5

$

Eliza Dushku and Kevin Tancharoen Talk The Gable 5Following the success of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Mortal Kombat: Legacy II, Kevin Tancharoen is once again delivering high quality scripted programming to the Machinima audience.

Here’s the shady skinny: Government-funded scientist Professor Gable unearths five people who have special gifts and seem to be a portent in the next evolutionary step for mankind. If he can harness the source of their gifts, he could use them for the good of the world... or for evil.

Eliza Dushku ("Angel,""Buffy the Vampire Slayer") plays an unwitting pawn in this nefarious program in the action-packed pilot which debuted yesterday. Basically, she kicks a lot of ass as she tries to make sense of what is happening to her. (It reminded me a little bit, in spirit anyway, of the short-lived Dushku television series "Dollhouse.")

Tancharoen describes The Gable 5 as “a sci-fi, futuristic version of The Truman Show.” I had to call him on that one when we talked because The Gable 5 is not a comedy at all! He laughed and said, “Well, the reason I said that is the victims are put into a situation in which they do not know they are being watched.

When I asked Dushku how web series have evolved from basically a pariah to the cutting edge, she said it’s because they are “bigger, better, faster – more.” She added, “Being able to access your audience so directly is a major plus. And now that producers are catching on to that, they are putting more behind web series. They’re feeling more confident.

Tancharoen is definitely feeling confident about the medium. When I asked him how he managed to make a web series look better than most big screen blockbusters, he said, “For me, I never really treat it any differently when shooting. With that said, making content quote-unquote ‘for the web’ is so vague because I watch a lot of web videos and series on my Apple television so I watch it on my normal TV, and I know a lot of other people do too.

Dushku, for one, was on board right away. “I was psyched to hear Machinima was producing this; I’m a fan of their epic artistry and also Kevin and his team. The story is thought-provoking, it’s extremely intelligent, and it poses this universal question of ‘Where are we going? And where are we currently?’ as far as science mixed with psychology – can we control the outcome? Whether or not we can control certain variables and tweak the outcome... That’s something everybody has pondered.

Tancharoen, too, loves “the science of it all. For this we actually did consult with a scientist who came with some accurate terminology; obviously we took it cinematically and took some creative license, but I always like finding some kind of scientific back and then tweaking it out so it’s a little more entertaining.

As for the future of The Gable 5, Dushku says you have to tune in! “We don’t know where or how the show is moving forward at this point – if the fans like it, we’d love to do more.

The Gable 5 is airing on Machinima Prime RIGHT NOW. Check out the pilot/first episode below.

Synopsis:
In a remote location, a secret facility exists unlike anything the world has ever seen. Run by Dr. Conrad Gable, a renowned neurologist, the facility is years ahead of its time when it comes to the technology it's using to research the human body. US VOD and Theatrical Release Dates Finally Announced for All Cheerleaders DieLast September Image Entertainment acquired the US distribution rights to Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson's All Cheerleaders Die (review), but all we've heard since then is that it's coming "in the spring." Well, that's now been clarified along with the release of some new artwork!

The film is heading to VOD on May 8th and will be in theaters June 13th.

The high school-set comedy horror-thriller was written and directed by Lucky McKee (May, The Woman) and Chris Sivertson (The Lost, I Know Who Killed Me). It was produced by Andrew van den Houten (Funeral Kings, The Woman) and Robert Tonino (The Woman, In the Family) for Modernciné and stars Caitlin Stasey (“Reign,” Tomorrow When the War Began), Sianoa Smit-McPhee (“Hung”), and Brooke Butler and introduces Tom Williamson. Executive producing is Arrien Schiltkamp.

Synopsis:
Teenage outsider Maddy (Caitlin Stasey; I, Frankenstein) is keeping some dark secrets and holding a serious grudge against the captain of the Blackfoot High football team. When Maddy joins the school's elite and powerful cheerleading squad, she convinces her new friends to help inflict her revenge. After a late-night party goes awry, their plans take an unexpected turn for the worst, and all of the girls die. A sinister, supernatural power intervenes, and the girls mysteriously appear at school the next day with a killer new look… and some unusual new appetites.

"Sexy, campy, funny, subversive, angsty, and most importantly fun" (The Hollywood Reporter), ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE is a rebellious horror-comedy that redefines the genre.

Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century Finally Coming to DVD in the 21st Century

$

Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century Finally Coming to DVD in the 21st CenturyAnyone who knows me knows I’ve long been a fan of the fairly obscure late 70s King Kong-inspired giant monster epic Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century. Barely released on VHS, never before on DVD, finally - at long last - this delirious b-movie bonanza is finally getting its long overdue DVD release.

For the uninitiated, Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century is a 1977 Italian production shot in Canada and then badly dubbed into English that was designed to ride the coattails of the 1976 big budget King Kong remake. Long before The Asylum the Italians were the true kings of the mockbuster.

From Gianfranco Parolini AKA Frank Kramer, co-writer and director of the Lee Van Cleef/Yul Brenner spaghetti western trilogy Sabata, Adios, Sabata, and The Return of Sabata, and starring Antonella Interlenghi (Fulci’s City of the Living Dead), Tony Kendall (Ossorio’s Return of the Evil Dead), and Mimmo Craig as the titular ice age titan, Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century has just about everything you could possibly want in a b-movie.

The monster is played by an extremely expressive actor in a fur suit with a puffy head of Tina Turner hair. The Yeti is thawed out from his frozen prehistoric phone booth dangling from a mid-air helicopter for reasons that take scientific mumbo-jumbo to dizzying new heights. The beast falls for a pretty girl, befriends a mute boy and his Lassie-esque dog, becomes the company mascot for an eccentric oil tycoon, climbs down(!) a skyscraper in spectacular fashion, runs amok through the streets of downtown Toronto, and snaps the necks of rival corporate nogoodniks between his giant toes. As a cherry on top there’s an indescribably loony theme song that takes things to the upper echelons of schlock.

I’ve been holding out for a Scream Factory special edition Blu-ray, but since the film has only been available via grey market outlets for nearly forever, I’m willing to settle (for now) for this DVD release that I somehow suspect will probably only be slightly higher in quality than said grey market releases.

CFS Releasing (never heard of them) will be giving Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century its first ever DVD release on April 22nd. If you need any extra incentive to rush over to Amazon to pre-order it for $9.95, then just watch the Yeti, Giant of the 20th Century music video below, and trust me when I tell you it only scratches the surface of the film’s wackiness.

Read on for details!

Cameron Monaghan Steps Foot Inside Amityville House

Cameron Monaghan Steps Foot Inside Amityville HouseThe week started off with casting news about Amityville, and so it seems only fitting that we end the week on the same note. Read on for details about the new addition to the latest installment in the undying franchise!

The Wrap reports that "Shameless" star Cameron Monaghan is in final negotiations to join the fright flick, though his deal has not yet officially closed. Monaghan recently starred in Vampire Academy, but this will be his first taste of true terror. Be sure to pack your fly swatter, young sir!

Maniac remake director Franck Khalfoun will direct.

Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house, which of course has a very dark history. Disney star Bella Throne is also on board, likely playing one of Joan's kids.

Dimension had planned on reigniting the popular horror franchise using a found-footage angle, but that idea has been dropped as the format appears to have fallen out of favor with discerning genre fans. Amityville remains scheduled for release on January 2, 2015.

Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala co-wrote the script and are expected to produce with Jason Blum of hit factory Blumhouse.

Dayo Okeniyi Sets Off for Terminator: Genesis; Plans for New Trilogy

Dayo Okeniyi Sets Off for Terminator: Genesis; Plans for New TrilogyThe final lead role has been cast in Terminator: Genesis, and it has gone to Dayo Okeniyi. But wait... there's more! The first plans to shoot three installments to put this saga to rest have officially been hatched. The second and third films will be done back-to-back over nine months.

Deadline reports that Okeniyi (pictured) and John Boyega were the two top choices for this pivotal final role, and this came down to a tug of war between storied franchises The Terminator and JJ Abrams and Star Wars, which also wanted Okeniyi to test for one of the leads of that film.

Paramount and Skydance’s David Ellison stepped up, and the actor unpacked his bags. Okeniyi, who co-starred in The Hunger Games and The Spectacular Now, will play a Steve Jobs genius who figures heavily into the conclusion of the film. He is Danny Dyson, who is also the son of the brainiac cyborg developer Miles Dyson, played by Joe Morton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The young man holds the key to technology development that makes Skynet possible.

"Game Of Thrones"‘ Emilia Clarke is Sara Connor, Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke is her son, John Connor; Jai Courtney is locked as Kyle Reese; and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his signature cyborg in the time-travel saga that will be directed by Alan Taylor. The film has a July 1, 2015, release date.

Shooting begins soon in Louisiana.

Transcendence to Feature a Johnny Depp-Led Army of Zombies?!

Transcendence to Feature a Johnny Depp-Led Army of Zombies?!You may have noticed that we really haven't written up any stories about Transcendence, and the reason for that is that it's not quite a horror film. Or is it?!

The folks over at Badass Digest caught a clip of the film at CinemaCon yesterday, and what they saw quite surprised them...

The basic gist of the film is that Johnny Depp plays an AI scientist who is assassinated, right as he's on the brink of a world-changing computer intelligence breakthrough. In an effort to save him, his wife uploads his brainwaves into the system he had been building, which you'll know is a huge mistake if you've ever seen a sci-fi movie.

In the clip that they saw, Depp's character uses his newly found superpowers to resurrect a dead man, proclaiming his plans to create an army. As the site suggests, it seemed as if he was saying that his plans were for that army to consist of re-animated corpses, and the dead man he revived was quite powerful and super fast. Uh oh.

It certainly sounds interesting so perhaps Transcendence is one film we horror fans should be keeping an eye on after all!

Look for Transcendence in theatres on April 18. Wally Pfister directs, and Depp stars along with Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, and Paul Bettany.

Synopsis
Dr. Will Caster (Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife, Evelyn (Hall), and best friend, Max Waters (Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will's thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Adam Green Says Goodbye to Dave BrockieIn addition to being Oderus Urungus, the frontman for the groundbreaking metal band GWAR for over three decades, Dave Brockie (as Oderus) starred in Adam Green's sitcom "Holliston." Green had some words about his co-star and friend he wanted to share.

If you are a fan of Brockie's work in GWAR or "Holliston" or his outrageous interviews, do yourself a favor and read Adam Green's blog entry on his friend Dave Brockie. It's a truly heartfelt and touching tribute.

Green wrote this entry because, as he put it, "I want to tell as many people as possible who the great man behind that costume really was."

You are missed, Dave. Here's to ya, buddy!
