In “Salem” witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem – and an even bolder new vision of witches.

“Salem,” premiering on Sunday, April 20th, enters the world of the most notorious witch trials in history, a period steeped in fear, suspicion, and hysteria. On an expansive set in Shreveport, Louisiana, built to reflect volatile 17th century Massachusetts, “Salem” explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them.

Ghostface Delivers Scream TV Series Plot Details

Ghostface Delivers Scream TV Series Plot DetailsWe learned around this time last year that MTV was working on bringing Ghostface to the small screen for a television series based on the popular slasher quadrilogy. Today we've finally got some details to share. Read on to find out all the info you've been Craven!

Our friends over on Bloody Disgusting broke the news earlier today that Wes Craven himself will be directing the pilot episode of the TV series from a screenplay by Jill Blotevogel.

Their source indicates that the so-called "rules" of slasher movies are at the center of the series with the pilot episode centering on a viral YouTube video that captures protagonist Audrey in the middle of murder and the town's troubled past.

As a follow-up to the news, TVLine also revealed the casting breakdown for the series, which you'll find below.

Harper Duval: A 16-year-old beauty “who’s a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterfly” but has nevertheless been anointed by the popular crowd to be one of their own. “She feels guilty that she has drifted away from former best friend Audrey,” but at least she’s got a "Gilmore Girls"-esque relationship with mom Maggie to keep her sane.

Audrey Jesen: Haper’s former BFF is described as “the bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastor” who’s “more arresting-looking than pretty.” This “artsy loner” dreams of being a filmmaker and shares a close bond with tech genius Noah.

Noah Foster: Audrey’s closest confidante is “creative, brilliant, and tech-savvy enough to be the next Steve Jobs.” Lucky for him, he’s got a great sense of humor (“a la John Cusack in his teen prime”) that helps him navigate the halls of his high school. What’s more, Noah possesses “an encyclopedic knowledge of books, films, TV, apps, etc.”

Margaret “Maggie” Duval: Harper’s mom, in her early to mid-40s, is the town’s medical examiner, “a grown-up science geek who plays down her beauty.” Maggie spends a lot of her time trying to make up for the fact that Harper’s dad abandoned them. Oh, and she’s harboring “a dark secret from her past.”

Casting for these and other roles is currently under way, and the pilot is going to be shot this summer. No word yet on when it's expected to premiere on MTV.

More as we learn it!

First Look at Chris Hemsworth In The Heart of the Sea

Ron Howard Finds Vicious Sperm Whales In The Heart of the SeaOn tap right now are more behind-the-scenes images from Ron Howard's latest feature, In the Heart of the Sea, an adaptation of the Nathaniel Philbrick novel which was an account of the tragedy of the whale ship Essex. Dig on your first look at star Chris Hemsworth and more!

From the Press Release
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced a March 13th, 2015, release date for the action adventure In the Heart of the Sea. Oscar winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) directs from a script by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond) based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling novel about the dramatic true journey of the whaling ship Essex.

In the Heart of the Sea stars Chris Hemsworth as the vessel’s veteran first mate, Owen Chase; Benjamin Walker as its inexperienced Captain, George Pollard; Cillian Murphy as second mate Matthew Joy; and Ben Whishaw as novelist Herman Melville, whose inquiries into the event 30 years later helped bring the story to light. The film also stars Tom Holland as young seaman Tom Nickerson and Brendan Gleeson as the same man, 30 years later. Spanish actor Jordi Mollà is the captain of another ship, the Archimedes, who tries to warn the Essex of what may lie ahead.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Melville’s Moby Dick. But that told only half the story. In the Heart of the Sea reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic, and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

First Look at Spavine Stitched Together

First Look at Spavine Stitched TogetherLooking for an indie horror fix? On tap right now is your first look at Spavine, which will be having its premiere at the Lagniappe Film Festival in May. Check out the first one-sheet and a handful of stills!

Spavine was written and directed by Tiffany Heath and stars Denton Blane Everett (Psychic Experiment), Tiffany Heath (Mulberry Stains), and Jake Austin. Phil Nichols/Facades FX handled the special makeup effects, including the mask you see on the poster below.

"With this film the Spavine team set out to strike a balance between classic gore like Texas Chainsaw and Hitchcockian psychological suspense," says Heath. "Spavine has an art-house film look but isn't 'snobby' in that it really cares about the audience and gives them the proper dose of gore, terror, suspense, and overall real life madness. There is nothing supernatural in the movie. Every bit of this story could really happen to you... which is the kind of terror that keeps me up at night making sure the windows are locked and the baseball bat is on the nightstand. This was my first venture into the terror genre, and I'm hooked! I had too much fun researching serial killers like Ed Gein and real life stories of animalistic abuse."

"Spavine was one of two films that I helped produce last summer (the other being Clinger), and they couldn't be further apart on the tonal scale," says producer Mel House. "Clinger is a horrific romantic comedy/tragedy with dark moments; whereas, Spavine is dark to the core - blacker than black at times, claustrophobic, unsettling, and gets under your skin in a very real way. Tiffany mentioned Chainsaw... I think, much like that film, the grueling experience of making Spavine probably impressed itself on the footage we captured. It was a brutal couple of weeks in sweltering East Texas... but I think that the professionalism of our bare bones crew, Tiffany's unwavering vision, Phil's sickening (in a good way) FX work, and a truly dedicated cast in Denton, Tiffany, and Jake combined to make something genuinely unique and nightmarish. I can't wait to see it unfold on the big screen in May."

Synopsis
Plagued by nightmares and obsessive sleepwalking, Darcy Baker can’t purge her mind of the animalistic abuse she suffered as a child at the hands of her mother. When Darcy’s therapist, Ryan, is informed that her family homestead, the very source of her nightmares, has been abandoned, he is eager to get her back there and pull the suppressed memories to the surface in order to start her journey of healing. While Darcy has no interest in walking through the door to that hell, she does have a deep desire to win the love of Ryan and succumbs to his wishes to return to her childhood home. Upon arriving at the decrepit house, she and Ryan discover that the fear mother ignites in Darcy still lives. Even more unsettling, they uncover the existence of ten-year-old Sam, a feral mute, who keeps his secrets dangerously close to his heart. Ryan admirably risks it all to heal both Sam and Darcy, but is their blood bond thicker than the healing waters he has to offer?

Go Behind the Scenes of Rosemary's BabyFinally a new teaser has arrived for NBC's two-part "Rosemary's Baby" TV-movie that shows off a bit of footage. It's not much, but it does give us an indication of the tone they're going for as well as another nice look at Zoe Saldana's bulging belly.

This new adaptation centers on a young married couple who escape New York and move to Paris with hopes of leaving their sad past behind. After a series of unfortunate events, Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse are presented with an offer they can’t refuse: an apartment at the most prestigious address in the city.

Problem is, it comes with a haunted past and an immeasurable price.

Related Story:Get Another Look at Rosemary's Baby

Rosemary (Zoe Saldana; Avatar, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Guy (Patrick J. Adams; “Suits”) are incredulous at their good fortune and find comfort in a strange city among their new friends and neighbors, the Castevets. This well-to-do successful older couple takes the newcomers under their wing and become very involved with the Woodhouses’ lives. Things seem to be perfect as Rosemary becomes pregnant and Guy’s career takes off. As their spirited best friend, Guy’s co-worker Julie (Christina Cole), spends quality time with Rosemary in the city, she finds Rosemary’s health worrying and cautions both of them that something isn’t right. Soon there are other signs warning Rosemary to be careful.

Guy seems to be pulling away from Rosemary and spending a great deal of time hanging around with Roman Castevet (Jason Isaacs; Harry Potter franchise). Roman’s wife, the whimsical Margaux Castevet (Carole Bouquet; For Your Eyes Only), assures Rosemary her herbs and holistic medicine will help with the pregnancy, but are they helping or hurting? Rosemary’s quizzical nature leads her to investigate the building and its past residents. She uncovers a dark past and realizes who Roman Castevet truly is. But is it too late? Are the Castavets’ perceived sinister motives legitimate or all in the pregnancy brain of Rosemary?

In this new four-hour, two-part psychological thriller written by Scott Abbott (Queen of the Damned) and James Wong (Final Destination 3, “American Horror Story,” “The X-Files”) and directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, “The Wire,” “Treme”), Rosemary quickly finds herself surrounded by peculiar people and startling occurrences. Isolated in her apartment in a city where she doesn’t speak the language, she begins to fear the worst: Guy may have made a pact with their neighbors, promising their newborn as a human sacrifice in occult rituals in exchange for a writing career. To what lengths would someone be willing to go for success and fortune?

“Rosemary’s Baby” is executive produced by Joshua D. Maurer, Alixandre Witlin, and David Stern and produced by City Entertainment, KippSter Entertainment, and Lionsgate Television.

Exclusive: Matty Beckerman Talks Alien Abduction and The Brown Mountain Lights Phenomenon

Exclusive: Matty Beckerman Talks Alien Abduction and The Brown Mountain Lights PhenomenonMatty Beckerman’s unsettling extraterrestrial thriller, Alien Abduction, will be landing on VOD and in limited theatrical release via IFC Midnight on April 4th and we had a chance to catch up with the director and discuss all things extraterrestrial.

Based around the real-life Brown Mountain Lights phenomenon down in North Carolina, a vacationing family winds up taking a much longer ride than they had planned for. Below, Beckerman himself talks in detail about the film and what inspired him to look up to the stars to find his latest inspiration.

DC: I’ve seen a lot of found footage movies, more than I care to even mention, and few of them were as effective as this one actually is. The Brown Mountain Lights are based on an actual phenomena, correct?

MB: Oh yeah, it’s very very real. I’ve seen the lights myself and taken video of them and pictures of them. It’s completely real.

DC: In the film, when the family first encountered the lights when they’re woken up in the middle of the night... is that how the lights actually appear or is that more of your spin on things?

MB: No, that’s what they look like. They are about four or five feet wide and they shoot off in different directions and they float above the mountain line. It’s completely freaky.

DC: When you decided to do a movie about this, what made you feel like the found footage way was the way to go as opposed to more of a narrative structure?

MB: Well, I met with a psychologist who had a patient that was autistic and this patient brought a video camera everywhere he went. That was the way he was able to communicate with the rest of the world and really connect with people was by using this video camera. And I thought it was a terrific medium to tell this story.

DC: It was one of the few found footage movies I’ve seen where there was actually a reason for the camera to be rolling. In terms of creature design, they were all practical, right?

MB: Yeah, everything we did, we had such a small budget we couldn’t afford CG. So, everything we did was all practical and I like the practical stuff more. It looks more authentic and you get that real feeling that something’s actually in the room, it doesn’t move awkwardly. It’s a completely realistic feeling. The actors can react to it the right way, too.

DC: Speaking of the actors, in a lot of found footage some of the dialogue is improvised. Was this scripted? Did you give them an outline?

MB: We had a whole script written but we went off script I’d say 90 percent of them time. We had to get from point A to point B and we gave the actors enough room to improvise and really get into who these characters were. And most of these characters are really just the same people who were the actors. There’s no real difference between them and the people they were playing. It was easy for them to do this ad-libbing.

DC: It all comes off as very natural. Joshua P. Warren, a noted Brown Mountain Lights investigator, appears in the film... did you interview him specifically for the movie or was that pre-existing footage?

MB: No, I interviewed him and all the locals up there, and the scientist at Appalachian State University - the Professor of Physics and Astronomy. Those are real people who have witnessed the lights and know all about it. I interviewed a bunch of locals, too, who claim they’ve been abducted there, who know the lights. That’s all real footage, it’s all authentic … Some people refused to let me put it out because they claim they’d been abducted there, including police officers. These aren’t people who are wacko’s, they’re people who have jobs and who have lives.

DC: Was the flick filmed on location?

MB: It was. Everything was filmed where the real lights are see: Burke County, North Carolina; in Avery County, North Carolina; in Watauga County, North Carolina; and in Bryson City.

DC: Did you guys see anything while you were filming?

MB: Yeah! Totally. I took the whole crew there and we witnessed the lights one night and actually took pictures of it. I put the pictures up on my personal website and put a little blog together on it and the pictures are up there, you can take a look.

DC: Will we be seeing some of this stuff on the DVD extras when we cross that bridge?

MB: I hope so. I just put this EPK of behind-the-scenes stuff together and we’ll see what makes it and what doesn’t.

Again, Alien Abduction, will be landing on VOD and in limited theatrical release via IFC Midnight on April 4th. Don’t get abducted!

Written by Robert Lewis, Alien Abduction stars Katherine Sigismund, Corey Eid, Riley Polanski, Jillian Clare, Jeff Bowser, and Peter Holden.

Synopsis
A terrifying sci-fi story inspired by dramatic found footage, Alien Abduction preys on our fear of the unknown as we follow an average American family who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

While driving to a campsite in the Brown Mountains of North Carolina, the Morris family's GPS malfunctions, and they are lead to a remote tunnel surrounded by abandoned vehicles. The father, Peter Morris, is abducted, leaving his traumatized wife and children to flee and seek refuge in a nearby cabin. There they are horrified to learn that strange lights in the nearby mountains have been linked to alien abduction and human sacrifice for centuries.

When their attempts to alert the authorities are intercepted by the deadly extraterrestrial threat, the surviving members of the family find themselves under siege. A brutal and bloody attack unfolds as we witness the horrors through the lens of the youngest child's video camera.

Josh Anthony Talks Happy Camp

Josh Anthony Talks Happy CampProduced by Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, Josh Anthony’s directorial debut Happy Camp tries to add a little something new to the found footage trope. Anthony was kind enough to take some time to speak with us about his love for the genre amd the challenges of taking the trip to Happy Camp.

He also discussed his high hopes for his first film to be successful enough that he’s allowed to make a second. That’s the dream, right?

DC: There are so many found footage films on the horizon and many that came before. Just to separate you from the pack a little bit, can you talk about the story of Happy Camp?

JA: I wanted to try to evolve it a little bit more. When we first started doing this, it was a little bit stagnant and everyone was trying to do the Blair Witch model. I wanted to shoot it as a film. My main goal was characters and relationships, and I think in genre film you still can do that. Found footage and documentary-style films really get a bad rap because if [people] hear [the term], they’ve already shut their brain off.

DC: What made you want to venture into the woods for a found footage film in the first place? Do you like the conceit of found footage? Have you watched a lot of them and do you watch a lot of horror films?

JA: I watch a ton of horror films. I’m a big fan of The Strangers; that’s absolutely one of my favorite films. I just thought it’d be a really clever way to get started. We had a budget and this was the style of film that we could do without blowing the budget and looking reckless. This was a great start for us and everything we wanted to do just fell into place.

DC: In most of these films, the action comes in the last act. Can you hint at what the ending of Happy Camp is so maybe the fans that are a little skeptical of found footage might take the trip to Happy Camp, so to speak?

JA: I wanted to misdirect a little bit and we kind of take a little twist at the end for a little bit more fun into the genre horror film. We try to take a new stab at some of these style of films. They’ve become formulaic and starting it out as a character piece and then making that turn at the end where it eventually goes, I hope they appreciate it. We wanted to have fun and have the audience enjoy and buy into and have fun with the picture, especially towards the end. These films break that fourth wall and allow the audience to be there, which is something that we tried to do, too.

DC: Why is the film set in 2009 and is there any truth to the disappearances in that area over the years?

JA: The number of disappearances, 627, is a fictional number. Up by Happy Camp there are a lot of missing people. We just thought it would be a great start to a genre horror film.

DC: How did Flower Films get involved? I imagine when they first heard the title Happy Camp they were imagining something quite different.

JA: I’d known Chris Miller at Flower Films for a long time and I’d been working with Flower on and off for the last 12 years and I had known that they wanted to get back into genre films. They had done Donnie Darko in the past and I pitched them the idea and they loved it. I just knew they were trying to get back into these genre films so it was kind of a perfect storm.

DC: Is the horror genre something you want to continue being involved in and what are you doing next?

JA: Absolutely. I’d love to do another one. I have a few broad comedies that are circling around and a couple of really good genre thrillers that I think might change things a little bit, too. Now that this baby is put to bed, hopefully we can get an opportunity. That was the whole goal with Happy Camp... just a chance to get to make another film.

DC: Josh, absolutely do the genre thriller; always do the genre thriller!

Happy Camp is now available on VOD through iTunes and Amazon. Give it a watch!

Synopsis
In the vast wilderness of the Klamath National Forest lies the small logging community of Happy Camp. With a population consisting of only a few hundred souls, this mysterious mountain town has become world renowned for its staggeringly high number of Missing Persons Cases.

Walt and Sandy Tanner adopted a young boy named Michael at the age of 9 and brought him home to Happy Camp, where the couple were raising their young son, Dean. Upon Michael's arrival, the two boys shared an immediate bond, and for the first time in Michael’s life, he had a family. After living in Happy Camp for only two years, however, tragedy struck on the afternoon of October 22, 1989, when Dean Tanner was abducted from the family's home. Michael, although in the same room and seemingly the only witness, oddly had no recollection of the violent crime.

20 years later, a grown Michael Tanner has mustered the courage to face his past in an effort to remember what actually happened to his brother on that fateful day. Under the provocation of his girlfriend, Anne, Michael has reluctantly agreed to have his journey documented by a professional film crew. However, what Michael, Anne, and the crew uncover are dangerous secrets about Happy Camp that will change their lives forever...
