First Look at It's Hell Getting Old from Blanc/Biehn's Hellevator Man Anthology; First Word on New Feature MindlessTwo forces to be reckoned with have teamed up to bring us our first look at "It's Hell Getting Old," a horror short from director Patrick Rea that will be part of Blanc/Biehn Productions' new elevator-set anthology Hellevator Man.

Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.

The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication. The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.

In addition to a few behind-the-scenes photos from "It's Hell Getting Old," we also have the kick-off announcement for BBP's Mindless, a mind-bending thriller that marks the feature directorial debut of Jason DeVan.

Ben Rock's Alien Raiders Gets the Lego Treatment

Ben Rock's Alien Raiders Gets The Lego TreatmentLife is full of great mysteries. Who was the 3rd gunman on the grassy knoll? Is the shroud of Turin really the burial wrap of Jesus Christ? Why did Warner Brothers give Ben Rock's kick-ass alien flick the shitty title of Alien Raiders? We may never know.

In any event YouTuber OsorioTron also recognized the greatness of the poorly titled Alien Raiders (review) and lovingly gave the film the Lego treatment! You can dig on that below.

If you haven't seen this movie, don't let the meaningless title sway you. Get it! Live it! Love it!

Synopsis
It's the end of yet another night at Hastings Supermarket, an idyllic family grocery store in Buck Lake, Arizona. But the normal monotony of rounding up shopping carts and settling out the cash drawers is broken at 11:07 pm, just before closing, when a group of masked and armed-to-the-teeth militants invades the store, immediately killing several of the employees and shoppers and holding the rest hostage. Though the hostage-takers at first appear to be robbers or terrorists, they reveal themselves to be a cadre of rogue scientists that has discovered and tracked an alien infestation to THIS STORE on THIS NIGHT, and they are determined to find out which of the survivors are extraterrestrials and end the invasion at any cost.

Never Sleep Again Coming to Print!

Never Sleep Again Coming to Print! Can't get enough A Nightmare on Elm Street? You're not alone! A few years ago I had the good fortune to work on what has become the definitive horror documentary, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. Now the dark journey is about to continue in print form from one of its co-creators.

From the Press Release
Thommy Hutson, writer and producer of definitive genre docs such as Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy and Inside Story: Scream and producer of More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, is excited to announce he is taking his journey down Elm Street a lot farther and in a whole new way.

Hutson has written a coffee table book detailing the original Wes Craven classic in a way no one has before. This over 200-page, hardcover tome is entitled Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy--The Making of Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and is the ultimate look at the scary, thrilling and groundbreaking 1984 film.

Through personal relationships and incredible access to many of the film's cast and crew, the amazing story of how the movie was conceived, created and released truly comes alive.

Exclusive interviews with dozens of people who brought Elm Street to life (writer/director, producers, cast, cinematographer, effects artists, designers, stunt people and more) combined with hundreds of materials, including rare, never-before-seen photographs, storyboards, conceptual drawings, archival documents and more, complete this cleverly-crafted, comprehensive chronicle.

This book was a labor of love for Hutson, who spent two and a half years crafting it. The project is currently in its final stages of layout, and now Hutson is asking for some help in making the project a reality in time for the film’s 30th anniversary: He’s inviting Elm Street fans, genre fans and those who love seeing what goes on behind the curtain of making a movie to support the book. Information, details of the book, a sneak peek at some of the layouts and a video guest-starring Nancy Thompson herself, Heather Langenkamp, can all be found at the Kickstarter campaign page:

“I cannot tell you how excited I am that this book, something on which I have been working for a long time, is so close to becoming a reality,” says Hutson. “At first, I had discussed the project with some publishers, but I soon realized, like the amazing documentary, this was something better done independently. That's why I'm bringing it directly to the fans: to ensure it's the most thorough, in-depth, unfettered presentation of the story behind the film. Everyone’s pledges made within the next couple of weeks will bring this book to life.”
What fans can expect in return for their pledges are some public thanks and cool rewards, including getting a copy of the book (along with some great incentives). “The only way for this all-encompassing ‘making of’ book to see the light of day is if fans pledge to get their copy through this campaign,” admits Hutson. “If we fall short of our goal, all the incredible stories, photos, materials and lore associated with A Nightmare on Elm Street will remain trapped in the boiler room.”

FEARnet Closes its Doors

FEARnet Closes its DoorsMany years ago I was taxed with the opportunity to help launch a horror-themed cable network. To say it was a daunting task is an understatement. Eventually FEARnet came along and they were more than up to the challenge. They did it right, but alas their ride has come to an end and today is a sad day for the Internet and horror community.

According to Deadline Comcast has bought out its partners in the joint venture — Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment — to take 100% ownership of FEARnet. Following the transaction, which closed this morning, FEARnet will no longer be a stand-alone brand but will be folded into Comcast’s NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment division. “NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has acquired all remaining interests in FEARnet from its productive venture with Lionsgate and Sony,” the company said in a statement to Deadline through a spokesman. “FEARnet, along with its popular content, will be integrated into NBCU Cable Entertainment. This process will take place over a yet to be determined period of time.”

FEARnet is expected to be folded mainly into Comcast/NBCU Cable Entertainment’s similarly thriller, suspense and horror-focused Chiller, though some content could also migrate to Syfy. 10 of FEARnet’s 25 employees will stay on through the transition. The other 15 are being let go today. FEARnet president Peter Block will stay at least through the transition.

Having worked with a lot of the network's staff personally I can say that they're an amazing bunch, and I've no doubt they will all go on to have a wonderfully bright future. So let's raise a glass to 'em! Lawrence, Alyse, Peter, and the rest... thanks for all that you've done to legitimize the horror genre which is considered the bastard of the movie industry. And most of all... thank you in advance for all that you will continue to do.

Cheers.

Lose Your Head for this Wolf Creek 2 Behind-the-Scenes LookIf there's one thing that stands out in my mind about Wolf Creek 2, it's the scene in which the ever so evil Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) savagely beheads one of his victims. It's almost sickeningly realistic. Now, if you don't mind spoilers, you can take an inside look at said scene.

Image Entertainment will be giving Wolf Creek 2 a VOD release on April 17th with a theatrical run set for May 16th.

Directed by Greg Mclean, written by Mclean and Aaron Sterns, and produced by Helen Leake (Swerve, Black and White, Heavens Burning), Greg Mclean, and Steve Topic (Crawlspace), the sequel started production seven years after the original Wolf Creek hit screens internationally in November of 2005.

Synopsis
Lured by the promise of an Australian holiday, backpackers Rutger, Katarina, and Paul visit the notorious Wolf Creek Crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes an horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the region ever wants to meet: Mick Taylor (John Jarratt).

As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic white-knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one else has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.

All ten episodes of the one-hour series starring Famke Janssen (X-Men), Bill Skarsgård (Simon & The Oaks), Landon Liboiron (“Terra Nova”) and Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II) will be available at launch in all territories where Netflix is available -- U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, the Nordics, and the Netherlands. The series also stars Madeline Brewer (“Orange Is the New Black”), Madeleine Martin (“Californication”), Joel de la Fuente (“Law & Order: SVU”), and Tiio Horn (“18 to Life”).

“I cannot wait for fans to see what's in store for Season Two – it is going to blow away all expectations,” said executive producer Eli Roth. “Netflix has been an incredible partner, and whenever we wanted to take the story in a dangerous direction, they encouraged us to go even further - into a scarier, darker, and sexier place. Camp Dread Reminds Us of Wonderful Summers Past

Camp Dread Reminds Us of Wonderful Summers PastThe clean, crisp air; the smell of the campfire; the call of nature. (Wait! What?) Yes, those are all wonderful things we associate with summer camp. A time for young people to venture out on their own and have experiences they'll remember for the rest of their lives... even if that's only about another 25 minutes.

The upcoming film Camp Dread, starring Eric Roberts, rekindles all those great memories of summer camp horror movies past, and oh, how we love them.

After becoming the setting of some truly memorable films in the 80's, summer camp has forever been tagged as the perfect hunting ground for the slasher. It's secluded, it's quiet, and it's filled with poorly supervised camp residents and camp counselors. Is there a more perfect recipe for a bloody good time than that? I think not!

So where do we start? Of course with the counselors. Oh those irresponsible, oversexed, beer-drinking, pot-smoking ne'er-do-wells. No matter which camp we find them in, they're always up to no good. And the funny thing is, they may have different names and different faces, but it always seems like similar counselors show up at every summer camp. You've got the goof, the athlete, the pothead, the wallflower, the party girl... you know them all. We've all seen them and love every one of the mischievous scoundrels.

But even though the counselors might not always have the best interests of the campers as their number one priority, they normally do have at least a shred of responsibility, or at the very least they don't wish any harm on the kiddos. They certainly don't deserve the bloody fate that is obligatorily waiting for them at the end of the movie. And of course we need to look no further than Camp Crystal Lake to see the best example of camp counselors behaving badly getting dealt with in extreme fashion.

Initially having to contend with the vengeful Mrs. Voorhees before her boy Jason took over, the counselors at Camp Crystal Lake had to deal with adversity like no others. With an astronomical body count, the Friday the 13th series set the bar for summer camp horror, and it was set high. From impaling Kevin Bacon with an arrow through the throat right up to Jason going psycho in the future (although he had long since left the comforts of Crystal Lake in Jason X), Friday the 13th treated camp counselors like a meat grinder treats a rump roast. No mercy.

And it's not to say that everyone is not in danger, but god forbid if you sneak behind the cabin for a little of the ol' in-out (that's A Clockwork Orange Nadsat slang for screwing, humping each other, making the beast with two backs, giving her a swift case of the bifters, doing it, etc.) or to grab a cold one or light up some wacky tobaccy, Camp Crystal Lake is going to be really unforgiving to those individuals. Yikes!

But as hellacious as Camp Crystal Lake is, there are certainly other camps out there that harbored bad, bad things. A little place called Camp Arawak comes immediately to mind as well. Although it doesn't have the flashy memorable name like Friday the 13th's Camp Crystal Lake, Camp Arawak had a really…unique…camper named Angela (played by Felissa Rose, who coincidentally appears in Camp Dread). And Angela was not what she appeared to be. Not at all.

Of course we are talking about Sleepaway Camp. Apparently kids back in the 80's were much more affected by witnessing homosexual relationships because Angela seeing one, and the fact that she was raised by her bat-shit crazy aunt, really fucked this kid up. See, Angela was originally Peter, but her aunt decided to raise him as a girl. So needless to say, Peter still had a peter even though he was running around looking like an all-American girl and being called Angela.

Needless to say, this kind of twisted upbringing tends to affect a child's mind, and if you throw in some mean-spirited childhood taunting and mud-slinging (literal and metaphorical), the next thing you know you have a guy getting stung to death by bees, a girl getting a hair-straightening iron shoved up her cooter, a hunting knife shower attack, and an unfortunate incident on the archery range. Camp Crystal Lake might be bad, but at Camp Arawak you've got a guy named Angela running around mangling people with his/her johnson hanging out. It might not be as bloody, but it's certainly stranger!

Sometimes it's not the counselors who are the bad guys; sometimes, like at Arawak, it's the kids. But they don't even have to have murderous intent. Oftentimes the little ankle-biters are just off playing some pranks and things get carried away in a big, big hurry. We've got a prime example of that right here. Let's say hello to a caretaker named Cropsey.

Camp Blackfoot was home to a kindly old caretaker that went by the name Cropsey. Well, we can't confirm how kindly he was, but he was there, and one night some of the meddling campers decided to scare the holy fuck out of Cropsey by setting up a skull with some candles in his caretaker shack and bang on the windows to frighten him. And hilarity ensued! Their plan worked so well that Cropsey freaked out and knocked the candles onto the bed, setting his sheets and clothes on fire. From here, in true Three Stoogian fashion, the burning Cropsey knocks over a gas tank, and things really get blazing. Luckily he was able to get to the river to put himself out, but he was really never the same after that.

Camp Dread Reminds us of Wonderful Summers Past

Cropsey would return (this time to Camp Stonewater) to do all kinds of nasty things to campers to try to exact his revenge for those campers that gave him a face even Proactiv+ couldn't save. "Seinfeld's" own Jason Alexander wasn't even safe from the horribly disfigured caretaker. And why is it that being hacked up by a horribly disfigured individual is so much worse than being hacked up by a relatively good looking fella? I guess it's all in how you look at it.

Camp Crystal Lake, Camp Arawak, and Camps Blackfoot and Stonewater. They are just a few of the summer fun sites that have been cursed by the actions of a remorseless killer. And don't think that's the end of the bloodshed. Places like Camp Hurrah in Cheerleader Camp in 1988 and even recent 2012 addition the Happy Day Bible Camp in the aptly named Bloody, Bloody Bible Camp prove that camps are still a very effective setting for a creative slasher to do his thing.

Watch the summer camp madness continue in Camp Dread!
