There are few things as important a the look of Godzilla for Godzilla to be Godzilla. The beast's roar is definitely one of them. It has to have that sound... it's iconic and unmistakable. Thank the video gods that everyone involved with Legendary Pictures' upcoming flick knew this!

Microsoft made a pretty big announcement today about "Xbox: Originals," their own original programming launching in June. Only a few of the projects sound Dread-worthy, but one in particular caught our eye.

Before we get to that, though, here's a quick rundown of what else you should be on the lookout for from Xbox Entertainment Studios:

- Two Halo projects: Along with a live-action "Halo" television series based on the award-winning video game franchise executive produced by Steven Spielberg, we'll also see a Halo digital feature released later this year from 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions, which will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan ("Battlestar Galactica,""Heroes") will direct.

- “Humans”: A new drama co-produced with UK broadcaster Channel 4. Award-winning UK production company Kudos will produce the hour-long, eight-episode series, which will share a premiere broadcast window on the Xbox platform and Channel 4 in the UK in 2015. “Humans” is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth, only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences.

- “Deadlands”: Xbox Entertainment Studios has committed to a script based on the successful pen-and-paper role-playing game created by Shane Lacy Hensley. “Deadlands” is an alternative history of the Weird West, filled with undead gunfighters, card-slinging sorcerers, mad scientists, secret societies, and fearsome abominations.

- “Extraordinary Believers”: Xbox Entertainment Studios is developing a hybrid stop-motion show dubbed “Extraordinary Believers” (working title) with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, creators of the Emmy-Award winning “Robot Chicken,” the longest running stop-motion show on television. The executive producers on the project are Seth Green and Matt Senreich, and creators/writers/executive producers are Eric Towner and John Harvatine IV.

- “Gun Machine”: Xbox Entertainment Studios acquired the rights to Gun Machine, a hardboiled detective thriller based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Warren Ellis. Ellis will executive produce with Brett Conrad, who has signed on to write the pilot script about a detective tracking a serial killer who is tied to a mysterious collection of guns used in infamous New York murders.

Xbox Entertainment Studio, the Microsoft division that produces original programming for the Xbox brand, has announced that they are co-developing, with IDW Entertainment, "Winterworld" as a limited event live-action series based on the acclaimed comic series created by writer Chuck Dixon and artist Jorge Zaffino. "Winterworld" joins an impressive line-up of dramas, documentaries, and reality television shows being developed by Xbox Entertainment Studios to be debuted and aired on the Xbox platform.

Executive producing the series with Xbox Entertainment Studios are Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment and Rick Jacobs and Dave Alpert from Circle of Confusion ("The Walking Dead").

“Xbox is recognized globally for their groundbreaking creativity. IDW Entertainment could not ask for a better partner to bring 'Winterworld' to life,” said David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment. “We are thrilled to be working with them during this exciting time in their growth.”

"Winterworld" takes place in an apocalyptic future where our world has been encased in ice from pole-to-pole. The surviving humans have formed tribes that war, enslave, and trade with one another in an effort to survive the infinite winter.

"To see my stories and Jorge's powerful images brought to life will be a serious thrill,” said writer Chuck Dixon. “We have the right partners and the right format to really make this something special. It's an exciting time in comics and in entertainment overall, and I am very pleased that 'Winterworld' will be a part of it."

The comic book series was originally published in the late 1980’s. This June IDW Publishing is bringing Mr. Dixon back to continue this brutal tale with comic industry favorite Butch Guice on art.

Around these parts we love a good slasher movie. The only problem is finding a good slasher movie. Will the killer in the recently announced Some Kind of Hate be able to bring the right kind of disturbing to the old chopping block? Read on for details.

According to THR, Ronen Rubinstein, Grace Phipps, and Sierra McCormick will star in Some Kind of Hate, a new take on the slasher genre from Adam Egypt Mortimer.

The flick centers on a tightly wound kid who is a favorite target for the local high school bullies. He is sent away to a remote reform school, where the teen accidentally summons a vengeful spirit -- herself a victim of bullying -- to exact retribution on his tormentors.

Mortimer co-wrote the script with novelist Brian DeLeeuw (In This Way I Was Saved). Caliber Media partners Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller arranged the financing and will produce alongside Amanda Mortimer and Gabriela Revilla’s Revek Entertainment.

Also in the cast are director Michael Polish, Noah Segan (Looper), Miss Illinois USA 2014 Lexi Atkins (Zombeavers), Spencer Breslin (The Happening), Maestro Harrell ("Suburgatory"), Jasper Polish (The Astronaut Farmer), music producer Jeremy Hawkins (stage name: JHawk), and Brando Eaton ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager").

Shooting begins this week in Los Angeles with the producers citing Nightmare on Elm Street, Let the Right One In, and Carrie among the touchstones for the production.

Mortimer is a music video director who has worked on bonus features for movies such as Andrew Niccol’s In Time and the Blumhouse horror movie Curve. He also created the comic Ballistic.

We told you that the sliver of sasquatchploitation from Bobcat Goldthwait known as Willow Creek (review) has scored itself some domestic distribution via Dark Sky Films, and now we have some release details for ya!

MPI will release the flick in NYC on June 6th at the IFC CENTER with a theatrical rollout to follow.

Described by Jimmy Kimmel as “Scary and the Hendersons” and by writer-director Bobcat Goldthwait himself as “The Blair-Squatch Project,” found footage movie Willow Creek is a radical departure in Goldthwait’s career after directing a string of black comedies (World’s Greatest Dad, God Bless America).

In the great American tradition of people venturing into the woods and encountering absolutely pants-wetting terror, what starts as two dorks with a video camera having a lark in a national park metastasizes into something much deeper, darker, and queasier.

Set in Humboldt County, California, Willow Creek centers on Jim (Bryce Johnson, "Pretty Little Liars") a Bigfoot believer whose idea of a romantic getaway is to head deep into Six Rivers National Forest in Northern California, video camera in tow, trying to shoot his own Bigfoot footage at the site of the Patterson-Gimlin film. That 1967 fragment of footage purporting to show Sasquatch striding along a dry riverbed became a key artifact in the cryptozoology community, and Jim dreams of nothing more than setting foot on the actual location where it was shot. His long-suffering girlfriend, Kelly (Alexie Gilmore, World’s Greatest Dad), agrees to tag along for the ride, despite the fact that she thinks Bigfoot has about as much chance of being real as leprechauns.

The two stop off first in Willow Creek, the Bigfoot capital of the world and home to an annual Bigfoot festival, where various locals talk to Jim’s camera, warning them to keep out of the woods, singing ballads about Bigfoot, and generally enjoying their 15 minutes in the spotlight while Jim and Kelly have a blast, cracking wise amidst all the touristy Bigfoot kitsch on display. But when they strap on packs and head into the forest via a two-hour drive down a dirt road, they start to feel like they might be in over their heads. Well, Kelly does, at least. Jim, as he approaches what he considers hallowed ground, is in heaven.

That night they’re awakened by mysterious sounds echoing through the woods and whooping vocalizations that might be Bigfoot but that might also be locals screwing with them. Either way, they’re not welcome here, and so Jim and Kelly decide to get out come sun-up but, as they quickly discover, it might already be too late, and as the sun goes down for the second time and they find themselves retracing the steps of Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, they discover the truth behind Bigfoot and the disturbing meaning of the term “forest bride.”

Kid-friendly horror maven R.L. Stein and his unique brand of Goosebumps just got a whole lot prettier as Halston Sage (who was also just recently cast in Scouts vs. Zombies) has signed for active duty in Sony's big screen adaptation!

THR reports that the actress will co-star in Sony's flick, starring Jack Black. Ken Marino, Amy Ryan, Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee, and Dylan Minnette also star.

In the film, directed by Rob Letterman, Black portrays famed children's horror writer R.L. Stine, whose monsters, it turns out, are actually real. When they escape from his books and attack an unsuspecting town, it's up to Stine and two teens to get the monsters back into their stories.

Goosebumps, which comes from a screenplay by Darren Lemke and Mike White, is set for release on March 23, 2016. It's produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.

Ever since Let the Right One In completely kicked our asses, we make it a practice to keep a close eye on director Tomas Alfredson. That's a good thing, too, as word of his next project has just broken!

According to Variety, Alfredson will direct an adaptation of the Jo Nesbo crime novel The Snowman for Working Title Films and Universal.

Alfredson will be working on a draft of the screenplay with writer Soren Sveistrup. The film will be produced by Working Title Films in association with Alfredson’s Another Park Film. Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce along with Piodor Gustafsson.

The film revolves around Harry Hole, a detective who has been featured in ten Nesbo novels. Described as a loose cannon in the Oslo police force, the story has Hole investigating the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

When Working Title originally optioned the book, the idea was to make create a series similar to the Alex Cross films that have starred Morgan Freeman and most recently Tyler Perry.

Martin Scorsese, who at one point was circling the project, is executive producing alongside Nesbo and Niclas Salomonsson, who also represents Nesbo. Working Title’s Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger will also executive produce.

Rock band Saliva has a new album, Rise Up, dropping today, and they've been rolling out track-by-track webisodes with lead singer Bobby Amaru describing each song; we have the pleasure of debuting the final two: "The Enemy" and "I Don't Want It"!

Synopsis

In the vein of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse comes a horror double feature from Spain called... well... Double Feature, or Doble Sesión for you purists out there. Check out the first bit of eye candy and more!

Double Feature, as the title suggests, will be broken up into two parts... the first part entitled Ríos Revueltos (that's Troubled Rivers to us gringos) is written and directed by Enrique Diego and set in a post-apocalyptic future. Alberto Millán, Nicola Reale with Leticia García, Judit Molero, Paco Alonso and José Gallego star.

Synopsis
A story of friendship and revenge. Two friends, opposite poles, which will ultimately face a wild and bleak contest. In a post-apocalyptic future world, the silent "Largo" and talking "Candolini" wander aimlessly through the deserted roads of the cities destroyed. They have few ambitions, much less objectives. But an unexpected event will shift their lives as their relationship becomes a cat and mouse game with unpredictable consequences.

The second part, entitled Sandra Munt (American title: Sandra Munt's Adventures, directed by Rubén Arnaiz, is a story of horror and adventure, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft. Synopsis
1933. Sandra Munt (Aranzazu Diez) and her friend Elsa (Emma Caballero) travel the world in search of a mysterious and mystical book. But the two friends will face the Nazis, a secret society, and a mysterious stranger, emerging from his past.

Confirmation has come that yet another foreign property is getting the Americanized treatment! We told you a few months ago that the hit French series "The Returned" ("Les Revenants") is getting an American remake. Today we have more details.

According to Deadline U.S. version of the acclaimed and popular French zombie series is a go. A&E has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to the project, also titled "The Returned," which had been on fast-track development since the network acquired the rights to the French series last fall. Carlton Cuse ("Bates Motel") wrote the first episode, and he and Raelle Tucker ("True Blood") will write and executive produce the supernatural/suspense series, a co-production between A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America, with three scripts already completed. Casting will begin immediately.

Based on the International Emmy-winning French suspense series by Fabrice Gobert, which in turn was inspired by the French feature film of the same name directed by Robin Campillo, "The Returned" focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. As families are reunited, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged on a physical and emotional level as strange phenomena begin to occur.

The site goes on to say that A&E’s version is faithful to the original. “The Returned has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle,” said A&E general manager David McKillop. This marks the second straight-to-series order for Cuse at A&E, where he also has Psycho prequel series "Bates Motel," recently renewed for a third season. With the pickup of "The Returned," Cuse ties Julie Plec as the writing drama producer with the most series on the air, 3: "Bates Motel," and "The Returned" at A&E and the upcoming horror series "The Strain" at FX — not too shabby for the former "Lost" co-showrunner who had been eying a slower pace following his intense stint on the complex ABC series.

The Scream Factory just offered the world a glimpse of what's to come when Ravenous, the cult Guy Pearce-starring cannibal thriller set during the Mexican-American War, hits Blu-ray from them on June 3rd! Read on!

The underrated 1999 cannibal film stars Pearce along with Robert Carlyle, David Arquette and Jeffrey Jones. The late Antonia Bird directs.

In the film, Captain John Boyd’s (Pearce) promotion stations him at a fort where a rescued man tells a disturbing tale of cannibalism.

It was the impressive 2010 film Monsters that led to Gareth Edwards landing in the director's chair for next month's Godzilla, and this year the film gets a sequel in the form of Monsters: Dark Continent, which Protagonist Pictures is bringing to the Cannes Film Festival.

Television director Tom Green (no relation to the funnyman of the same name) is at the helm of Monsters: The Dark Continent while original director Gareth Edwards executive produces along with actor Scoot McNairy.

Producers are James Richardson and Allan Niblo for Vertigo and Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken for Between the Eyes. Johnny Harris (Welcome to the Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did), and Joe Dempsie ("Game of Thrones") star.

Synopsis

Vantage Media International (VMI) has acquired the worldwide rights to the film starring Ciara Hanna ("Power Rangers"), Jackie Moore (100 Ghost Street), and Emmy-nominated Emily O’Brien ("The Young and the Restless").

Pernicious follows the plight of three American beauties whose dream summer adventure in Thailand quickly turns into a nightmare when they unleash the spirit of a murdered child with only one thing on her mind... revenge.
