Newest Update from The Profane Exhibit

$

A new day brings us a new update from the hotly anticipated film, The Profane Exhibit. Producers David Bond and Manda Manuel report that controversial horror director Uwe Boll has completed his segment of the film.

Boll’s contribution to The Profane Exhibit features two very recognizable faces to horror fans, Clint Howard and Caroline Williams. The pair appear as a married couple with a particularly disturbing secret in their basement.

For more info, follow The Profane Exhibit on Facebook and on Twitter (@ProfaneExhibit).

From the Press Release
Director Uwe Boll has completed his contribution to the film, the creepy and subversive short Basement, starring Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Tara Cardinal and horror icon Clint Howard. David L Tamarin, General Counselor of Harbinger, attended the shoot and expressed his concern that the material might be too strong for mass consumption. "The film is about evil that is absolutely real. There are no zombies, and the only monster is of the human variety. The film takes you to a very dark place. Viewers need to prepare themselves for this one."

Uwe Boll's film is about the corruption of a family in a world where things are not always what they appear to be. A world where monsters parade as family men and home is another word for hell. In an ideal suburban home which could best be described as boring and ordinary a horrible secret exists deep in the basement. Clint Howard and Caroline Williams play a married couple with an ordinary life- except for the fact that they keep their starving and abused daughter in a locked basement room that she has not left in years. In this perverse nightmare scenario that is unfortunately based on fact, all the young daughter (Tara Cardinal) wants to do is go outside and into the sun. Instead she must endure daily cruelties. This is a tale of sexual depravity and psychological torture, and a subversive look at the depraved realities of suburban life. Uwe Boll, director of films such as Stoic, Rampage, Seed, Postal, Attack on Darfur, and more, has once again turned his eye on the nature of evil and corruption.

Other directors for The Profane Exhibit include Richard Stanley, Marian Dora, Yoshihiro Nishimura, Sergio Stivaletti, Ryan Nicholson, Michael Todd Schneider and Andrey Iskanov. Many more to still be announced.

  • Indie Horror Month Interview & Exclusive Stills Debut: Filmmaker Darren Lynch Discusses UK Indie Horror Flick Ouija

    $
    0
    0

UK-based actor-turned-director Darren Lynch is currently finishing up his filmmaking debut Ouija which he's hoping will be hitting theaters across the pond in time for Halloween.

The supernatural tale centers around nine friends who go on a camping trip and unknowingly unleash a horde of demons after a round of shenanigans with an Ouija board goes horribly awry.

Dread Central recently caught up with Lynch, who also co-stars in his first-ever feature film, to hear more about how his career transitioned from in front of the camera to behind it, the inspiration behind Ouija and balancing a career as both an up-and-coming actor and director.

Lynch also shared with Dread a gaggle of exclusive stills from Ouija which you can check out below as well. Look for more news on Ouija down the road as well!

Dread Central: Tell us a bit about yourself, your background, what got you interested in filmmaking and more about your career before this project.

Darren Lynch: Well I got in to acting about four years ago now, starting with gaining as much experience as possible. I was doing small walk-on parts and from then on, I craved acting. I wanted to do as much as I could possibly commit to. I then I gained enough experience to attempt bigger opportunities, speaking roles in various short films with my big break coming in a cinema-released film called Screwed starring Adulthood's Noel Clarke. I originally went to do a walk-on role but was picked out to do a small speaking line in the film and was credited for my role.

It really opened up my career from there, enabling me to get an acting agent. I was thrown various small speaking roles in several cinema releases one being the new James Bond film Skyfall. I breathed acting and wanting more that's why I decided to direct and write my own film a horror film which is actually my favorite genre of film.

DC: Can you talk about what inspired your script and the idea for your film? Were you a huge fan of the Ouija board movies of the 80s? Did those influence you at all?

Darren Lynch: It's strange- a few weeks before I started on the script, I actually attended an Ouija board session at a local bar. I was curious to see if it really worked since I had tried it a few times through curiosity with a few friends and never had anything to convince me happen. But I have heard numerous stories that warned me enough to keep me away from the art. Since the film, I never have touched an Ouija board and don't think I would; and after seeing this film, I don't think anyone will want to dabble in the arts of Ouija either.

DC: I noticed that you also act (which I think is a good additional perspective to have going for into a project as a director) so I was wondering if you could talk a bit about the challenges of balancing an acting career with a directing career. Also, do you feel like having the actor perspective allowed you to work more with your cast on Ouija than if you hadn't? Did you and the cast do a lot of prep work ahead of time?

Darren Lynch: I find it quite easy to balance the two to be honest; directing has given me the opportunity to experiment with both and build up my career as an actor and director. I'll still be working through my acting agent and expanding on my acting career too. Ouija actually happened kind of fast and with the actors living locally, it was quite easy to get them ready for the film and prepared with their lines. I worked with the actors closely and also being an actor I gave them advice that I've had over the years and it worked extremely well.

DC: I noticed you had a five week shoot- can you talk more about how that went; did you face any challenges while filming? How is the post production process going now?

Darren Lynch: Yes of course- every film has challenges and I definitely feel it brings the cast and crew together more when everyone's facing them head-on as a team. We all became very close and I will be working with them a lot more in the future. Post-production is going fantastic; I've had a look over the film and it looks fantastic and will be expecting to debut a trailer very soon.

DC: Being located in the UK, I was wondering if you could talk a bit about the indie filmmaking climate there more- was it difficult to get Ouija up and running? How hard is it to get an independent horror film made there?

Darren Lynch: Not at all, actually. There are various sites and places you can meet young and ambitious filmmakers and start working on a project almost immediately. The hardest part is finding the budget but there are a lot of sources out there- you just got to keep trying.

DC: So what's up next for you and Ouija?

Darren Lynch: The next step is to get Ouija out there and create a good buzz about it so we can get as many people excited about it as possible. Then, hopefully we can negotiate a deal with a distributor for a cinema release this Halloween.

Home Video Trailer Premiere Now Online for The Wicker Tree

    0

Grab your phallic symbols, kids! The official home video trailer for The Wicker Tree (review here) is here, and even though it looks damned good, we still kinda miss Nicolas Cage and his eyeful of bees.

    From the Press Release
On April 24th, Anchor Bay Entertainment, the leading distributor in classic and contemporary horror films, releases Anchor Bay Films’ highly anticipated follow-up The Wicker Tree on Blu-ray™ and DVD. Set in the same universe as the 1973 cult classic The Wicker Man starring Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, the film is written and directed by the original helmer, Robin Hardy, who also reunited with the original producer Peter Snell and venerable UK production company British Lion to bring a chilling new vision of this classic story to 21st century audiences, after a theatrical run. SRP is $29.99 for the Blu-ray™ and $26.98 for the DVD.

Based on Hardy’s acclaimed 2006 novel “Cowboys for Christ,” The Wicker Tree tells the story of Texas-based singer Beth Boothby (newcomer Brittania Nicol) and her friend Steve Thomson (Henry Garrett, “The Bill,” “Skins”), two born-again Christians who come to Scotland to spread the gospel. When their initial efforts are met with disdain and disinterest, they find comfort in an invitation to sing in Tressock, the border fiefdom owned by Sir Lachlan Morrison (Graham McTavish, Rambo, the upcoming The Hobbit films).

However, Beth’s and Steve’s message of personal chastity quickly comes into direct conflict with Tressock’s sexual and religious practices, drawing upon ancient Celtic beliefs and rituals. Temptations begin to challenge Beth and Steve – with the stakes no less than their very lives and souls...

Lee, who played the mysterious Lord Summerisle in the original (in a career that includes Count Dracula and the Frankenstein monster in the classic Hammer films, Count Dooku in Star Wars Episodes II & III, and Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as the upcoming pair of films based on The Hobbit), returns again in a dramatic cameo. Rounding out the cast are Jacqueline Leonard (“Holby City,” “The Bill”) as Lady Delia Morrison, Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes, The 13th Warrior) as Beame, James Mapes (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Conversations with God) as Reverend Moriarty and Honeysuckle Weeks (“Foyle’s War” and numerous other UK TV projects) as Lolly.

Bonus features on The Wicker Tree Blu-ray™ and DVD include a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer.

Bad House Film dropped a pretty spicy meatball on us today with the launch of the website for the disturbing new Italian film Made in Italy. Maybe it's just me, but something about this mock documentary gives me A Serbian Film vibe. Skin, commence crawling.

There's very little info available on Made in Italy right now, other than that it's in post-production and directed by someone named Jephta. But you can check out the trailer below. A combination of the realistic way it was shot and the subject matter that could easily be pulled from today's outlandish headlines makes it very effective.

    From the Press Release
A few months after releasing the teaser trailer of Made in Italy, which triggered the interest of moviegoers and aroused the curiosity of horror fans, Bad House Film publishes the official Made in Italy website for the upsetting and alternative Italian "mondo movie".

The enigmatic movie studio also releases the English trailer (see below). "We will build a narrative bridge between website and movie contents. That is an innovative project. It will profoundly change the relationship between cinema and web" - said Jephta, the movie's director.

With an Italian and English version, the website offers videos, images and info. There are also a download area and a mysterious live section. Want to Avoid Zombification? Mission Blue Says Avoid the Puffer Fish

Clairvius Narcisse had been feeling ill for some time. At a local hospital in the Haitian town of Deschapelle, he complained to his doctors of fever, body aches, and vomiting. His condition rapidly deteriorated, and two days later, on May 2, 1962, he fell into a comatose state and soon died.

But hold on, there’s more to this story ...

The following tale, which was the inspiration for The Serpent and the Rainbow, is from Mission Blue, a website created to alert the public to critical ocean issues. And, as you’ll see, apparently zombification of the human race is one of the issues we need to concern ourselves with. Continuing on with the unfortunate story of Narcisse ...

Narcisse’s grief-stricken sister collected the body, and his family buried him the next day. Eighteen years later, a man approached Narcisse’s sister in the local marketplace. He claimed to be her long-dead brother. He was. Narcisse was the victim of one of the 1,000 cases of zombification in Haiti that is reported annually. Zombification, which started as part of Voodoo, has now been linked to several varieties of puffer fish.

That’s right, those cute little fish with the giant heads that wriggle around your tank can zombify you without even a second thought!

Narcisse described being lucid but unable to react those many years ago, as he was pronounced dead, heard his sister weeping, and was sealed in his own coffin. At times, he said his skin burned and felt as if insects were crawling under it, while other moments left him feeling as though he were floating above his grave.

To hear the rest of this story and learn more about the “zombie fish”, check out the story on Mission Blue.

    Synopsis
In the year 1752 Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England, to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass, and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet — or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor are Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter, Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.
