A Devil of a Delivery: The Beast Within Clip

Delivery: The Beast Within Births a TrailerEvery time we think we're done with the found footage subgenre, a movie comes along that gets it right and renews our interest. Delivery: The Beast Within (review) (or Delivery, as it was known in the UK) is exactly that movie, and on tap right now is a new clip!

The Collective will be releasing the feature in theaters and on VOD. A limited theatrical run in NYC, Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, and Indianapolis is set for May 30th with the movie hitting cable VOD on all major platforms three days prior on May 27th.

Directed by Brian Netto and produced by Adam Schindler (who also co-wrote the screenplay with Netto), Delivery: The Beast Within stars Laurel Vail, Danny Barclay, and Rob Cobuzio in the paranormal thriller that has been generating buzz since it premiered last summer at the L.A. Film Festival.

Synopsis:
DELIVERY: THE BEAST WITHIN tells the story of Kyle and Rachel Massy, a young couple who agree to document their first pregnancy for a family-oriented reality show. As the camera continues to capture strange events, Rachel begins to believe that a malevolent spirit has possessed their unborn child.

Told through the show's un-aired footage and interviews with friends, family, and production members, this savvy debut feature leverages the voyeuristic properties of reality television to present a fresh perspective on classic horror themes of possession and the paranormal -- and delivers enough eeriness to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Exclusive: Atom Egoyan Talks the Challenges and Rewards of Directing Devil's Knot

Exclusive: Atom Egoyan Talks the Challenges and Rewards of Directing Devil's KnotAs the tagline from the latest Atom Egoyan film, Devil's Knot (review), states, “They say the crimes were satanic. The truth may be scarier.” Based on the convictions of the men accused of the "West Memphis Three" murders, it focuses on the families and legal aspects of the case.

We recently chatted with director Egoyan about how he became involved in the project, which describes how Jessie Misskelley, Jr., Jason Baldwin, and Damien Echols (aka the West Memphis Three) were exonerated and released after serving nearly 20 years in prison.

He also touched on why he chose to focus on some lesser known principals from the case, the challenges of bringing this story to the screen, what he learned about the U.S. justice system while making the film, and more.

Dread Central: So, how did you first become aware of the West Memphis Three story, and what was it about it that stuck with you the most because there are so many different elements to it?

Atom Egoyan: Well, I saw the first documentary, Paradise Lost, when it came out in ’96 I think it was, and I’ll just never forget those images of those bodies. The film starts with these really graphic images, and I’ve never seen that before. And I think that you can’t imagine a more extreme crime scene, that these three young boys were found naked, bound, mutilated, tied with their own shoelaces in a swamp, and there’s absolutely no evidence around them. There was no blood, there was no DNA, no footprints, not even branches had been disturbed.

So it’s deeply supernatural... and that this happens in the Deep South in this very religious community, I just think that it was an explosive situation, where it was clearly an act of evil, and if demons couldn’t be identified immediately, then they had to be created, and that’s what happened over the course of the following weeks.

I think that what I wanted to show with this movie was that there were so many avenues that weren’t explored. There were so many other possible suspects or possible reasons to raise during the trial, but, either due to incompetence or to sheer will, once the system identified these three outsiders, everything else was excluded. So I remember leaving the documentary and subsequent similar films thinking, 'Oh it must have been that person or that person.' In reality it’s not that clear. I think that any one of these other finger pointings might have created another witch hunt.

In fact, the troubling reality is we still have no idea, 20 years later, who actually did it or why they would have done it. It’s such a graphic, extreme crime and it’s deeply unsettling to live with that. The film is trying to show the effects of living with doubt and what that means and how that grows an individual.

DC: You story does concentrate mainly on two people who are lesser known to the general public, Pam Hobbs (Reese Witherspoon) and Ron Lax (Colin Firth). Why did you choose to go with that angle, and why those two in particular? Was it a matter of book rights or…?

AE: Because they seem to represent the two extremes. Pam Hobbs is this person who had every emotional reason to believe that the killers had been found. She was a mother whose precious eight-year-old kid was found in the most shocking, degrading sort of way possible. How could she live with that? Of course, she has every reason to believe that it would have been one of these three Satanists. The fact that she came to a turn-around, that she began to question that through her emotional intuitive sensibility, and then to contrast that with Ron Lax, who is this very polished professional, highly successful private investigator who attached himself because he didn’t believe in the death penalty. And for him to be in the courtroom and suddenly realize that he’s not here defending against the death penalty, he’s actually witness to a huge mistrial and the public employee lawyers that he’s working with are not experienced enough to really hold this for what it is, are not able to actually change anything, and his frustration.

That idea of having a strong sense of conviction but not having the agency to do anything about it seemed to be such an unusual way to tell a story. I really felt that the meeting in the forest of these two individuals who were both not the primary subjects that most people would identify... in the drama we’re telling they are united in their doubt and in their desire to look further and to keep pressing those questions. That, to me, was really moving.

Devil's Knot with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth

DC: That’s a good answer. I have seen all of your movies. I love Where the Truth Lies; it’s probably my favorite. And I enjoyed Chloe, too. Usually your storytelling style is more mysterious so I’m wondering what made you decide to present Devil’s Knot in a more linear and procedural way. Was it a challenge for you to be less stylistic and more straightforward?

AE: That’s a great question because yes, it was a huge challenge. It took me like a year to edit this because I just felt that I had to stick to the facts. You are actually bound by what actually happened, and in this case I wanted to use actual words that were spoken, the actual transcripts of interviews, what happened in the trial, so in a strange way you’re bound in a way that’s very different than in a film like Where the Truth Lies, which is entirely fictional, or which has completely different rules. Tonally, this film is really moving between the elements of courtroom procedural and horror and thriller and murder mystery and domestic drama and a lot of different genres. Where something like Where the Truth Lies is probably more coherent stylistically, that’s not how this story could be told... It just felt that it needed a different approach.

DC: Well, it seems like there are a lot of different choices. I think that when it comes to documentarians, for example, Werner Herzog is a master because he can make them seem very labyrinthine and almost like a mystery as they unfold; yet, he’s still sticking to facts. So yeah, it must have been quite a challenge. I’m curious now that you've mentioned it, it does have a lot of genre elements... Our website Dread Central is mainly for horror movies, and so I’m wondering, do you mind that fans of horror movies will be drawn to Devil’s Knot?

AE: I think especially the first part of the film functions like a horror [movie] and you’re sort of plunged into this world and it has this tone. But I’m curious to see how someone who is in that world... I’m not sure what the expectations would be of someone. I have no problem with anyone watching this. I think that it’s a story that needs to be looked at. I think it’s a piece of urban mythology. I think it has tones of different ways of being told, and this is the particular approach we took. Maybe someone would choose a more horror approach. It’s interesting given the pedigree of the writers and you know, Scott Derrickson. There’s lots of ways that the story could be told.

DC: What do you think of the real-life outcome for the West Memphis Three? Was justice served or not? And what did you learn about the U.S. legal system in the course of making this film?

AE: Like any legal system, it’s based on narrative being applied and making a jury believe that narrative. In this case, the only real act of dark magic in the whole story was what the prosecution team was able to do in summation where you take a whole bunch of circumstantial evidence and as the prosecutor says himself, quite explicitly, you mix it all together and what do you have? You create demons. That, to me, is very troubling. I don’t think it’s very specific to the U.S. I think it happening elsewhere in the world. But it’s almost as though what we can’t live with is the idea that some things might be unresolved, especially when it affects a community and when it’s about children. People need answers. What happened in West Memphis is that three young boys were killed and three young men were then sacrificed at the altar of justice, and that is very troubling. I’m happy that this case has been kept alive and that they are still alive and that they are now out of jail, but I don’t think that the case is in any way resolved. I think it’s still an open question as to who killed those young men in that forest 20 years later.

Image Entertainment is releasing Devil's Knot on May 9th.

    Synopsis:
From Academy Award nominated director Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter) and starring Academy Award winner Colin Firth (The King's Speech) and Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), comes the true story of a crime that would grip a nation for almost two decades and that continues to be one of the most high-profile trials of all time. Based on the bestseller by Mara Leveritt, DEVIL'S KNOT recounts the trial and conviction of teenagers Damien Echols; Jessie Misskelley, Jr.; and Jason Baldwin in the savage murder of three 8-year-old boys in the small town of West Memphis, Arkansas, in 1993.

Dubbed the so-called "West Memphis Three," the defendants, each of them a social outsider, quickly found themselves up against a community crying out for justice as well as a lack of physical evidence that led police to believe the murders were carried out as part of a satanic occult ritual. Firth stars as Ron Lax in the film, a local private investigator and one of the first people to support the teens in their defense. Witherspoon plays Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the murdered boys. Together, they allow an uncompromising look at both sides of a town that was torn apart… and will probably never be the same again.

Exclusive: John Jarratt Talks Wolf Creek 2's Delay, Comedic Tone, Another Sequel & More!

    0

Exclusive: John Jarratt Talks Wolf Creek 2's Delay, Comedic Tone, Another Sequel & More! With his iconic laugh and maniacal mean streak, Wolf Creek's Mick Taylor is on par with Baby Firefly as one of the coolest cinematic killers – just not nearly as attractive. John Jarratt brings Mick to a new low as the gritty, downright dirty evildoer from Down Under in the long-awaited sequel.

Inventively entitled Wolf Creek 2, the flick is due out in theaters on May 16th. We got the chance to pick John’s brain (before Mick could pick ours – thank goodness the interview was done over the phone), and here’s what he had to say to all the horror fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting his return.

Dread Central: It has been a long time between the Wolf Creek films; can you tell us why the delay for Mick’s return?

John Jarratt: Well, when Greg McLean wrote the first one, he was in his early thirties and he was a bit idealistic. He was determined that Wolf Creek the second would be better than the first Wolf Creek. And he wasn’t going to do it until he was convinced he had a script that was better. So then he did a couple of other jobs, and you know I am basically sitting around thinking things up and eventually put together a script that he was happy with. And we worked on that four years after Wolf Creek 1 had come out. We got the film up and we had a major investor who called like five minutes before we were about to start [pulling the plug]. So that delayed us another year to get the film back up again. So there were a few false starts, and there was a lot of time spent getting the script right. That is basically it.

DC: John, how does that feel as an actor when you have the flow of this character going, and then it takes ages before you can play him again? How do you tap into the old Mick mythology after so many years between?

JJ: Well, it was kind of strange, but even stranger... the Wolf Creek phenomenon is big, so every day I was street performing [because fans stop me and ask me to do Mick]. So it’s been kind of with me all the time. It’s not like I filed it away. At times my patience was wearing very, very thin. And also I said to Greg, ‘It’s been eight years or whatever, and I am getting older. I might look the same, but I am not young.’ But funny enough, I don’t know how, but we took a picture of me as Mick this time around and took a photo of Mick by me last time, and there was hardly any difference. I hadn’t changed much, thank God.

DC: This movie seems a little bit more comedic. And I am not sure if it’s true, but I have read somewhere that the highway scene with the kangaroos was added for the American market… is that true? Do you know if there are two different versions of the film?

JJ: Well, we had a cinema release in Australia which was slightly shorter, but just slightly. The DVD I think has got the hardcore original uncut version. And also I thought he was funny in the first one, but people keep saying he is funnier in this one. I suppose he is; I don’t know. But you do see a lot more of me. I thought I had some funny jokes in the first one, but I am only in the second half of the movie if you have ever seen the first one. I am in the sequel from the get-go this time. More opportunity for Mick. I think he has a good sense of humor, in any case.

DC: Oh, yeah – he is way too happy about his evil doings. Which do you prefer -- the more intense, stalking scenes where you are scaring people, or do you prefer the more joking, lighter side of Mick?

JJ: Oh, both. Comedy is always great to do. And scary. People always ask me, ‘How do you become an actor? What is acting all about? What do you do when you are an actor?’ And I just got this joke that I always say, ‘Face the front and go for the laughs.’ Just go for the laughs, you know. I think humor is important in all films. You know, Scorsese films are formed of dramatic thrills, but there are a lot of gags; there are a lot of laughs. Joe Pesci is as funny as all get out in Goodfellas. And in The Shining, ‘Heeeeere’s Johnny!’ It is important to have something to take the edge off.

DC: You did say you would be interested in doing another sequel so I am curious to see how you would like to see Mick progress -- maybe Mick takes Manhattan or Mick in Space? [laughter]

JJ: I don’t think he does progress. I think he has just a bunch of things to shoot and kill in the Outback. He has wild antelope, kangaroos, and backpackers. In fact, backpackers are the most fun. He is a hunter. It is what he does; he enjoys the game. I don’t know… I would just crack open his head and come up with some script ideas and then we all figure it out. I know there is great stuff we could just come up with. I look forward to actually discovering something fresh for the third one, but Mick himself? He never changes.

Directed by Greg Mclean, written by Mclean and Aaron Sterns, and produced by Helen Leake (Swerve, Black and White, Heavens Burning), Greg Mclean, and Steve Topic (Crawlspace), the sequel started production seven years after the original Wolf Creek hit screens internationally in November of 2005.

Wolf Creek 2 is available on VOD now, with a theatrical run set for May 16th.

    Synopsis
Lured by the promise of an Australian holiday, backpackers Rutger, Katarina, and Paul visit the notorious Wolf Creek Crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes an horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the region ever wants to meet: Mick Taylor (John Jarratt).

As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic white-knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one else has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.

Danielle Chuchran Talks Fire City: The Interpreter of Signs

Danielle Chuchran Talks Fire City: The Interpreter of SignsFire City: Interpreter of Signs is an upcoming demon fantasy thriller set against the noir backdrop of a shadowy atmospheric world, where demons live among humans who are blind to what they really are.

The story follows Atum Vine, a 700-year-old demon with an attitude. To the humans who live unwittingly alongside him in a derelict tenement building, Vine is just the drug dealer at the end of the hall. But to the demons also living on the floor, Vine is a procurer of human misery, which they need to survive.

After Vine’s flow of addicts shuts off unexpectedly and apparently for no reason, Vine consults Cornelia, an interpreter of signs. She is a fortune teller in the demon world and an enigma even Vine can’t quite figure out.

We got a chance to catch up with Danielle Chuchran, the young actress who plays Cornelia, during our recent set visit for the film.

DC: Do we ever get to see the human version of Cornelia?

Danielle Chuchran: Yes, but it’s actually not me. It’s Mary-Margaret Humes who is playing the human version. I am the demon version.

    DC: How come?

DC: I think they just wanted an older person because she is kind of psychic so she has been around for several hundred years. So I think they wanted a more aged and wiser look. For the more physical things and craziness, they wanted someone a little more demonic. She is in two or three scenes, but other than that Cornelia is a demon throughout.

DC: How did you first hear about this role?

DC: My managers actually sent me on an audition for it. And in the audition they started asking me if I was okay with prosthetics, and I was like, 'Been there, done that.' And they said, 'Great! Well, if we end up picking you, are you available for rehearsal tomorrow?' [laughs]

DC: So, did you know how blue you would be?

DC: In the audition Tom Woodruff, Jr. [the director], asked if I was okay with contacts and he described how the prosthetics would be just for my cheekbones. I did prosthetics for Cat in the Hat years ago, so I was like, 'That is fine.' And so I actually got a call two hours after the audition that I booked it. And we started rehearsal the next day and started filming the next week. It was a quick one.

DC: Do you have stunts and things that you maybe weren’t expecting? Cause I hear about a lot of beating hearts being ripped out of chests by you, and you’re stopping someone’s air by holding their windpipe shut...

DC: Not so much stunts; I think it is more just really cool effects that they are doing. In the end I am wearing this awesome harness that they built that has the beating heart and everything. It’s really neat. Not so much stunts but just a few little things where Vine threw me against the wall. But that is about it.

DC: Tell me a little about Vine and Cornelia.

DC: We have a very weird relationship. There is this little relationship, like you can tell they have been ‘on and off’ for a few years. But we are pretty mean to each other throughout. It’s so funny and I feel so bad... just getting into character and stuff, we glare at each other. And he'll just growl at me as he walks by and I will growl back... It’s so funny; I get out of makeup and I don’t even recognize him because I just see him in makeup the whole time. But it’s been kind of fun.

DC: While on set today I have been hearing about the whole back story, and it seems so complex with so many characters… it’s an epic world… so can you put it in "dummy" terms for me? [laughter]

DC: Well, it’s so funny cause... I was thrown into this so quick, I have been emailing [writer-producer] Michael [Hayes] on and off the whole time just saying, 'Okay, explain this. I want to know what am I talking about here.' But dummy terms: That’s how I needed it explained, too! Basically, my character, Cornelia, is an interpreter. And there are multiple interpreters that see things through this bone mask who can tell the future. They are psychics. Like the demon psychics. They are basically like protectors; that's kind of what they are seen as. And she looks out for this building that is full of demons. And she just foresees everything. She tells them, 'This is what is coming up. You know, the disease is this...' and she’s gets really confused when all of a sudden she loses her sight. And the interpreters can’t see anything anymore. It’s because of this disease and dark figure that has shut them off, and so she is kind of going along pretending like she knows what she is doing, but she does not throughout the other half of the film.

DC: So, there is something like the humans all become good. Suddenly, all bad people and criminals are 100% good. What’s the story with the human element?

DC: It’s basically this dark figure or this disease that has come over them. It has turned all the humans happy. So they no longer feel pain or anger... So the demons have nothing to feed off of, which is what they do. So that is why they all of a sudden start starving, because there is no suffering to feed off of anymore. So yeah, it’s basically a disease that turns everyone happy, so they only feel happy emotions.

DC: Let’s go back to your makeup a little bit. How long does it take to rid yourself of the blue?

DC: Um, they are really good about getting it off so maybe around forty-five minutes tops for everything. That’s in and out. They are real good about getting it all off.

DC: So you never had to stop by the store or anywhere on the way home with the blue skin?

DC: No. I have had to do that with other projects, and that was awful. But no, when I leave, I might have a little spot of blue on my ears or something and I would hope I wouldn’t get pulled over. Like, 'Officer I can explain...' [laughter]

DC: So you’re two weeks into filming, and you been here almost every day. How much is Cornelia in the film?

DC: I work nine days throughout the whole thing. So on and off. I am on a couple of days here, then three days off, and come back.

DC: What’s the most interesting thing you have seen on set so far? Any anecdotes you can share?

DC: Basically, I am just blown away by the makeup. It’s just so cool. And the way they lit this... normally you don’t get the creeps when you’re watching them film because you know you are kind of seeing everything, but there are just some scenes where... Vine will walk in the room and you will just see his shadow come across and you just get like, 'Oh my gosh, this is so cool!' So I am continually blown away by the makeup.

DC: Your producer was saying they are going for a noir look for this film. Does it take a long time to get the lighting and the setups going?

DC: Honestly, no. They are so fast at getting everything done and getting it lit up. And it helps since we are kind of stationary in one building. So they have everything planned out as to how they want to light it and everything. I am shocked to how quick it has gone by!

DC: What is the scene you are looking most forward to shooting?

DC: My death scene. I am so excited. It sounds awful: to die. And I have had five people come up to me and be like, 'You are going to die tomorrow,' and I am like, 'I know! It should be really fun.' It’s just me yelling and so many emotions going on. And it will be interesting to see the whole heart rig and everything and blood everywhere. I think it’s just going to come in the moment. I think it all out, but it helps so much when you get on set and all the actors kind of talk and give their own two cents on how the thing is going to happen. And so I am just hoping it will come out great.

The film centers around a fragile balance that exists between humankind and the demons who secretly live among them and the crisis for all when this balance is broken. Mary-Margaret Humes, Harry Shum Jr., Danielle Chuchran, Kristin Minter, Matt Winston, Eric Edwards, Tobias Jelinek, and Robert Peters star.

Shum plays an abusive alcoholic boyfriend who suddenly transforms into a caring and loving person, along with the rest of the humans in his seedy tenement building. Dependent on human misery for survival, the demons in the building begin to starve.

Writer-producers Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign for the film in August 2013.

Check it out, and let us know if you plan to tune in for Part 1 on Mother's Day.

“Rosemary’s Baby,” the four-hour adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin, will air on NBC Sunday, May 11th, and Thursday, May 15th. The telecast will air each night from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT.

“Rosemary’s Baby” centers on a young married couple who move into a Paris apartment that has a haunted past. After getting pregnant, the wife becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their neighbors will have ulterior motives when her child is born.

The miniseries, from Lionsgate Television, stars Zoe Saldana, Patrick J. Adams, Jason Isaacs, and Carole Bouquet. The psychological thriller was written by Scott Abbott (Queen of the Damned) and James Wong (Final Destination 3, “American Horror Story,” “The X-Files”) and directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, “The Wire,” “Treme”).

    "ROSEMARY'S BABY - NIGHT ONE" (5/11/14, 9-11PM)
After a personal tragedy leaves Rosemary (Zoe Saldana) and Guy (Patrick J. Adams) Woodhouse anxious for a fresh start, the young married couple depart for Paris, where Guy has landed a job teaching at The Sorbonne. Upon their arrival, a series of unfortunate events occur, and soon Rosemary and Guy are presented with an offer they can’t refuse: an apartment with the most prestigious address in the city. They find comfort in this strange city among their new friends and neighbors, Roman (Jason Isaacs) and Margaux (Carole Bouquet) Castevet, but soon find the apartment comes with a haunted past. This well-to-do, successful older couple take the newcomers under their wings and become very involved with the Woodhouses’ lives. Meanwhile, Rosemary spends some quality time with her dear friend Julie (Christine Cole), learning how to cook at Le Cordon Bleu. Everything seems wonderful as the couple decide to try to conceive a baby.

    "ROSEMARY'S BABY - NIGHT TWO" (5/15/14, 9-11PM)
In this two-hour conclusion, Rosemary’s (Zoe Saldana) health rapidly declines with her pregnancy while Guy’s (Patrick J. Adams) career takes off with the successful completion of his book. At the same time Roman (Jason Isaacs) and Margaux (Carole Bouquet) each take a peculiar and very intimate interest in the young couple. Untimely and gruesome deaths seem prevalent, and we soon learn why. As Rosemary’s due date approaches, the truth about her baby becomes clear, and everyone’s true colors come to light.

Scott Buck Digs Up Dirt on Dexter Finale

Scott Buck Digs Up Dirt on Dexter FinaleWith the exception of our own Matt Fini, I don't know many people who could tolerate the final season of "Dexter." Especially the last episode, which for my money ranks as one of the biggest misfires in television history. So what went wrong?

If you're still interested, Showtime released a new featurette that sees executive producer Scott Buck reflecting back on the disappointing finale. Honestly, it's nothing that we haven't really seen or heard before. More points about Dexter's arc... yadda yadda yadda.

Know what would be refreshing? If someone would just for once say, "Yeah, we fucked up; sorry about that," instead of trying even after a year to pointlessly defend every bad choice made. Come on, guys. Where's your code?

Harry continues to spin in his grave.

Maniac Cop Remake Back on Track; Director to Be Announced at Cannes

Maniac Cop Remake Back on Track; Director to Be Announced at CannesIt was back in 2012 that we learned Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was teaming up with original Maniac Cop director William Lustig to produce a remake of the fan-favorite horror flick, which really caught our attention and got us excited.

It's been a couple years since we've heard anything about the project, but at long last the right to remain silent has been broken. Read on!

Screen Daily reports that the remake is back on track and that Ed Brubaker (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) penned the script for the film, which will be produced by Refn, Lustig and Wild Bunch. The director will be announced at Cannes, which kicks off on May 14th.

It's highly unlikely that either Refn or Lustig will direct the film, which had previously been described by Lustig as being more of a prequel than a direct remake of the 1988 original. At the present time we have no way of knowing if that is indeed the direction in which Brubaker went with his script, though we expect to have more info for you real soon.

Who would you like to see direct a Maniac Cop reboot? Comment below and let us know!

    Abattoir Sales Trailer Gets Noticed

AFM 2013: Sales Art for Darren Lynn Bousman's Abattoir Takes it One Room at a TimeThe sales trailer for the new film from Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV; Repo! The Genetic Opera; The Devil's Carnival) recently found its way online in a video for Full Sail University's How to Get Noticed in Hollywood Today program and you can dig it right now!

It should be EXPLICITLY noted that this is just a proof on concept trailer and it contains no footage from the actual film itself. You can find it at the 32 minute mark of the video, but we recommend, especially if you're a new filmmaker, that you watch the whole chat with Bousman as it's as interesting as they come. The man knows his shit! Check it out!

Bousman is set to direct Abattoir, which will be produced by Radical Studios. Bousman will work from a screenplay by Christopher Monfette, who adapts the Radical Publishing comic book miniseries created by Bousman.

Abattoir centers on a Boston real-estate reporter who unearths an urban legend about someone who has spent decades buying homes where horrific tragedies have occurred and piecing them together, ultimately leading to the enigmatic Jebediah Crone and the answer to the terrifying question: How do you build a haunted house?

Jesse Berger will produce via Radical Studios' new genre banner Dark Web alongside visual effect house Hydraulx (Avengers, Avatar) and production company Les enfants Terribles. The producing team includes Radical Studios president Barry Levine (Oblivion), Hydraulx CEO Greg Strause (Skyline), Brent Bell (The Devil Inside), and Chris Contogouris (Spring Breakers), who will executive produce, with Brent Johnson and Radical Studios partner Billy Hines co-producing.

The concept of Abattoir has been in my nightmares since I was a kid. I couldn’t be in better hands than with Radical Studios, who has taken this idea and helped me develop it into a truly terrifying concept, a new spin on the haunted house sub-genre,” Bousman said.

“The wonderful thing about Darren’s vision for Abattoir is that it combines elements of classic, old-school horror with a very modern, high-concept idea and a terrifying mythology,” Berger said.
