Good news for fans excited for Insidious: Chapter 3! Focus Features announced minutes ago that Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the Insidious and Saw franchises, will direct the next installment of Blumhouse’s terrifying horror franchise, which starts principal photography on July 7th.

Focus Features, Entertainment One (eOne), Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), and Blumhouse Productions announced today that Leigh Whannell will direct the third chapter of the INSIDIOUS film franchise, which he will also write.

Focus Features, which acquired the rights to release INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 from FilmDistrict, plans to bring the film to U.S. theaters on April 3, 2015. eOne will distribute the picture in Canada, the U.K., and Spain. Sony will distribute the picture in the rest of the world. Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, which produced both INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, is producing the next installment along with Oren Peli and James Wan. Whannell has written both INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, which earned more than $40 million at the box office in its opening weekend, making it one of the largest horror genre openings ever and one of the biggest openings for a film released in the month of September. Whannell most recently wrote and starred in the Sundance hit COOTIES, the SXSW darling THE MULE, and, along with Wan, co-created the hit SAW franchise. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman, and Xavier Marchand are executive producing. Principal photography of the movie is scheduled to start this summer on July 7th.

The first INSIDIOUS told the story of Josh and Renai Lambert and their son Dalton confronting the demons that possess the young boy. The project was picked up by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and distributed by FilmDistrict in the US; eOne in Canada, the U.K., and Spain; and IM Global in the rest of the world. It was released on April 1, 2011, and grossed $97 million worldwide. With the picture’s reported $1.5 million budget, it has led to the film being called the most profitable film of 2011.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, the terrifying sequel, followed the haunted Lambert family as they sought to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, and Barbara Hershey reprised their roles in the film directed by James Wan, who also directed the first installment. The film grossed $160 million worldwide.

It's been several years since we've seen anything from writer/director Bryan Bertino, who burst onto the scene in 2008 with the effective home invasion flick The Strangers. Next, he continues with the home invasion theme, only this time the invading monsters aren't of the human variety.

Screen Daily reports that Bertino's next project will be a horror flick titled There Are Monsters, which he wrote and will be directing. Elisabeth Moss, best known for her role on "Mad Men," has signed on to star in the film.

Bertino’s script follows a single mom and her terrified young daughter who are trapped and tormented by a mysterious creature.

Pre-production is due to get under way in the fall of 2014.

Richard Suckle produces under his Atlas Entertainment banner alongside Adrienne Biddle of Unbroken Pictures. Sonny Mallhi, exec on The Strangers, as well as House at the End of the Street and The Roommate, is executive producer.

We've had our eyes on Juno Mak's Hong Kong vampire flick Rigor Mortis for quite some time now as it looks to be a totally batshit crazy supernatural affair in the very best of ways. The flick has proven to be a box office hit overseas, and it's now headed Stateside. Read on!

Well Go USA has announced that they'll be releasing Rigor Mortis on VOD outlets June 6th along with a limited theatrical roll-out on the same day. The theatrical listings thus far include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, and Honolulu.

Synopsis
RIGOR MORTIS stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho (Siu-ho) as a former vampire hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star, separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into Room 2442 in the housing estate, an allegedly haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants" of the building including a Taoist master-exorcist (Anthony Chan), a traumatized housewife with a tragic past (Kara Hui), as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman (Paw Hee-ching) who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment. Soon it becomes apparent to Siu-ho that the people around him and the situation are far from normal. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, Siu-ho is soon thrust into the battle of his life as vicious vampires with unsettled business begin to rise from the dead...

The Wrap reports that Paranormal Activity producer Steven Schneider's The Houses October Built will be shopped to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, by Brian O'Shea's The Exchange.

Described by O'Shea as "the best found footage horror film since Paranormal Activity terrified movie audiences," the film examines the Halloween haunted house phenomenon that draws over 30 million visitors every October. Lurking beneath the surface of spooky fun, the film aims to shed light on the dark world of haunting.

Zack Andrews and Bobby Roe directed the movie, which New Regency produced with Schneider.

Synopsis

The English-language directorial debut of Bong Joon-ho (The Host), the film stars The Avengers’ Chris Evans, The Help’s Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Alison Pill, Tilda Swinton, and Song Kang-ho.

Based on the graphic novel Le Transperceneige, Snowpiercer is set in the not too distant future, where a new Ice Age has wiped out most of the human race. With a revolt brewing onboard, the Snowpiercer is a train of Earth’s lone survivors that travels around the cold world.

Casting has officially begun on Warner Bros.' adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand as THR is reporting that The Fault in Our Stars actor Nat Wolff is reteaming With director Josh Boone for the long talked about project.

Boone is attached to direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s epic novel, which is being made by Warner Bros. and CBS Films. He tells THR that he's writing a part specifically for Wolff, making this the third project the duo will have worked on together.

The Stand has cycled through several directors over the years, with Scott Cooper most recently on board to direct (as well as write) before leaving the project in November. Before that, Ben Affleck and David Yates were attached as directors.

The Stand, which is being produced by Jimmy Miller and Roy Lee, is a story of good versus evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. It features dozens of characters (including such memorable ones as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping storylines running over many years as it tells of a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

King, who now has a strong relationship with Boone after a receiving a moving letter from him at 12 years old, recently also gave Boone permission to adapt Lisey's Story.

Screen Daily just checked in with some news reporting that Brian O’Shea has struck a deal to handle international sales in Cannes on producer Steven Schneider’s horror film, The Tank, which Open Road will distribute in the U.S.

The Tank follows six test subjects placed in an isolation tank for a Mars mission simulation. Kellie Madison wrote the screenplay and makes her feature directorial debut.

Producing alongside Schneider are Glacier Films, the company that Hayden Christensen, Tove Christensen, Sarik Andreasyan, Gevond Andreasyan, Georgy Malkov, Vladimir Poliakov launched one year ago and is backed by Russia’s Renovatio.

“The Exchange is excited to work with an incredibly successful producer like Steven Schneider,” said O’Shea.

“The Tank is the kind of picture he specializes in. People better not stand in its way — The Tank is poised to charge up the box office charts.”

Created by Jay Somsen, the "Full House" horror trailer is fantastic, especially for those of us who grew up knowing the Olsen twins as two painfully adorable toddler actresses and not the eccentric millionaires they are today. If there were any evil wrongdoings going on on "Full House", our bet is that little bitch Kimmy Gibler had something to do with it!

As he leaves a path of destruction behind him and runs away from the law (Ron Perlman, Hellboy), Elliot’s need to complete the game escalates as the tasks grow increasingly sinister, to a devastating point of no return.

Movies.com critic, Peter Hall, calls 13 SINS a “highly entertaining thriller that certainly rises toward the top of the stack of recent movies about the horrors people will go through in pursuit of a quick buck.” Scott Weinberg of FEARnet describes the film as “a pretty cold and heartless affair.”

13 SINS has a running time of 92 minutes and is rated R for violence, bloody images, and language. DVD and Blu-Ray special features include:
