Fans of "American Horror Story" who suffer from Coulrophobia may want to steer clear... really, really clear... from the upcoming "American Horror Story: Freak Show" as there will be a villain waiting for them to die for!

Series co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed to Entertainment Weekly some truly spooky news: The upcoming fourth season of the hit series will feature a killer clown... and not the kind that the Chiodo brothers set free upon the world in the 80s.

"...I thought it was going to be light, but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark... it feels much more like the 'Asylum' season. But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”

When asked for confirmation of the villain... “Yes,” confirms Murphy. “The most terrifying clown ever!”

Jessica Lange, Denis O'Hare, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Jamie Brewer, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, and Michael Chiklis will star.

With Trick 'r Treat, director Michael Dougherty forever left his mark on the Halloween season by delivering what is arguably the perfect Halloween-themed anthology film. So now the question beckons... can he do the same for Christmas? Read on for details.

Deadline is reporting that Legendary has closed a deal for Dougherty to co-write and direct Krampus, a twisted horror comedy set around the Christmas holiday that’s co-written by Todd Casey and Zach Shields.

Based on an ancient legend about a pagan demon who punishes the wicked, Krampus is similar in style to Dougherty’s cult hit Trick 'r Treat. Dougherty also co-wrote X2, the second installment of the X-Men franchise, and Superman Returns. He’s also working on a sequel to Trick 'r Treat. That is also at Legendary.

“The dark ancient origins of our holidays have always fascinated me,” Dougherty said. “I’ve been drawing twisted Christmas cards for well over a decade so it only made sense to bring some of that morbid yuletide fun to the big screen, and Krampus was the perfect mythology to do that. Christmas has been invading Halloween for far too long. It’s time to return the favor.”

Giles New and Keiron Self are adapting the classic Oscar Wilde story. The animated film is produced by Robert Chandler and Gina Carter. Content will be handling worldwide sales starting at the Cannes market this month.

Currently in pre-production, the animated comedy follows the story of Sir Simon de Canterville, who has been haunting his ancestral home in rural England, Canterville Chase, for over three hundred years. He has successfully scared off every previous tenant with ease and aplomb, up until the Otis family from America moves in.

Stephen Fry, who stars as the famous ghost, remarked “I’m excited as a little child to be playing in Oscar Wilde's hilarious and touching ghost story/romance/comedy - especially as it will mean working again with Hugh Laurie after all these years. The standard and style of the animation will be astounding and the voice talent unmatched in what I am certain will be, the cliché is unavoidable, an unmissable experience for all the family."

It's been awhile since we've gotten an update on Fox's "Wayward Pines," which is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, but the network has set up a website for the show and released a slew of cast photos along with an expanded synopsis. Dig in!

What is it about horror that we love so much? Why are we so into being terrified and seeing innocent people killed in the most brutal ways? Have you ever pondered these questions? Longtime fan Tal Zimerman has, and he's made a documentary that sets out to answer them.

Screen Daily reports that WTFilms will be bringing Zimerman's documentary WHY Horror?, which delves into the psychology of horror around the world, to Cannes. Among the interviewed subjects are names like George Romero and John Carpenter as well as Eli Roth, Alexandre Aja, Alex de la Iglesia, Ben Wheatley, Simon Barrett, Takashi Shimizu, Don Coscarelli, and Nicolas Lopez.

"For us who are fans of horror films and are dedicated to selling them, this is a dream come true," said WTFilms co-founder Gregory Chambet. "It’s fascinating to see that people from any country or gender are horror lovers and that scary movies translate the same everywhere. This is a love letter to genre, and it couldn’t be more fitting for WTFilms."

WTFilms will premiere a promo and 15 minutes of footage in Cannes.

The Swedish writing/directing duo of Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund have churned out a few feature films, including Blood Runs Cold and Wither, the latter of which has drawn favorable comparisons to The Evil Dead. Now they're back with a third, and we have the first look for ya.

Headed to Cannes, which kicks off next week, We Are Monsters stars Hanna Oldenburg, Ralf Beck, Thorbjorn Andersson, and Niki Nordenskjold. You'll find the plot crunch, poster art, and a few stills below.

Synopsis

It was announced a couple years back that Wake Wood director David Keating was working on a horror flick called Cherry Tree, though details about the project were scant. Now that the film is in post-production, we know a whole lot more about it!

A joint venture between Dark Sky Films and Ireland's Fantastic Films, Keating's next is a supernatural thriller written by Brendan McCarthy, and it's been described as a companion piece to the excellent Wake Wood.

In the film a young woman makes a fateful pact with a witches' coven that can save her father's dying life.

Anna Walton (Hellboy 2), Naomi Battrick, and Sam Hazeldine ("Resurrection") star.

A series of new images from Ben Katai's latest film, entitled Beneath, has arrived; and we have 'em for you cold off the old slab, kids! Check 'em out, and look for the film on VOD June 27th from IFC Midnight.

The film stars Jeff Fahey, Kelly Noonan, and Joey Kern as well as Brent Briscoe, Rene Rivera, Mark L. Young, Kurt Caseres, David Shackelford, Ashway Lawver, and Jason Masek.

Patrick J. Doody and Chris Valenziano wrote the screenplay on spec, and former Dimension Films and Screen Gems executive Nick Phillips and veteran casting director Kelly Wagner’s recently formed Revolver Picture Company picked it up late last year.

We live in a world in which pointless sequels are thrown at us like balls being hurled at an annoying clown in a dunking tank. Yes, that's a given, but sometimes even we have to wonder just what in the world goes through people's minds.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Fox Home Entertainment is moving on a sequel to the 2008 teen-friendly snoozer The Haunting of Molly Hartley. The new film, entitled, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley, will see I Spit on Your Grave's Steven R. Monroe taking on directing duties.

Haley Bennett played Molly in the first film. No word on if she’ll return.

Here's our hope... Steven R. Monroe. Please take this to the darkest, most ghastly and horrific place possible. We love you... love us back!

Apparently the sequel follows Molly Hartley, who, after a night of heavy partying, finds her friends butchered. While locked in a mental hospital for observation, she becomes possessed by a demon. Her fellow inmate, a defrocked priest named Father John Barrow, hopes to save her.

Matt Venne (Leprechaun: Origins, White Noise 2: The Light, Fright Night 2, Mirrors 2) penned the screenplay for the direct-to-VOD sequel that begins shooting this summer in Winnipeg.

Figures.com reports that NECA is kicking off its San Diego Comic-Con 2014 exclusive reveals with a look at the upcoming Super Freddy (as played by Michael Bailey Smith). We've been following filmmaker Zack Parker's career for several years here at Dread Central, and we're pleased that his latest, Proxy (review), is such a winner. Also a winner is this new video released for the flick that wishes us all a Happy Mother's Day!

Synopsis:

Parker has reunited with The Newton Brothers to compose the score as well as Jim Timperman as Director of Photography to lens the film. A notable addition to Parker’s crew is seasoned Special F/X Make-Up Artist James Ojala. Proxy was shot on location in Eastern Indiana.

Given the exceptional job he did managing the mayhem in 28 Weeks Later, we're pretty sure that director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo can pretty much hold his own with just about anyone in terms of making a good zombie movie. This time there's no rage virus required.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that they're hearing rumblings out of Cannes that Fresnadillo is set to direct a new zombie for 20th Century Fox tentatively entitled The Zombie Underworld.

It’s unclear if this is related to the long-gestating 28 Days Later sequel, but as of yet nothing is clear... or official for that matter. Look for more details as they roll in.

Night of the Living Dead: Origins has been shambling around for a few years now, and it will just not stay dead! The next stop for this 3D animated retelling of the George A. Romero classic is Cannes, and we have new stills and more for ya!

With a seemingly unquenchable appetite for zombie movies, movie-goers will get their fill in 2014 with Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D, a 3D animated reboot of the original 1968 horror classic.

The film features visual effects from The Graphic Film Company, Los Angeles, which relied on the iPi Soft iPi Motion Capture markerless motion capture software solution. The software’s ability to easily create massive amounts of zombie action and seamlessly integrate it with the studio’s complex workflow provided the filmmakers limitless creative freedom.

“There are a scant few examples of animated horror films, let alone ones that honor a classic like Night of the Living Dead, but this project is very special,” Michael Nikonov, iPi Soft's Chief Technology Architect says. "The fact that most of the film features motion capture, with a substantial amount created using iPi Motion Capture, stands as the best evidence our motion capture solution accelerates creativity easily and affordably."

Produced by noted Hollywood filmmaker Simon West (The Expendables 2, Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and Jib Polhemus and directed by Krisztian Majdik and Zebediah De Soto, Night of the Living Dead: 3D Origins is a 3D animated (rarely seen in the R-rated horror genre) retelling of the 1968 George Romero-directed zombie classic.

With all the TV news we've been getting the last few days, CBS has been rather quiet, but that changed today with the announcement that the network has picked up Kevin Williamson's pilot, which now has a title. Read on for the details!

Per Deadline, the series will be called "Stalker," and CBS provided the following summary:
