We know some of you have yet to watch the game-changing season finale of "The Vampire Diaries" (we plan to catch up ourselves later today) so beware of spoilers and proceed at your own risk to learn more details about the return of Alaric in the upcoming Season 6!

TV Guide got the scoop that Elena and Jeremy's surrogate father, portrayed by fan favorite Matt Davis, will indeed be sticking around Mystic Falls and that there will be a substantial time jump when the show resumes in the fall.

When Season 5 ended, a few familiar faces, including Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) and Alaric, returned. But while Lexi was sucked up into the atmosphere, Alaric was left standing alongside his friends.

The site also provided a neat recap of Alaric's "TVD" history: First introduced midway through Season 1, Alaric started as a vampire hunter and history teacher at Mystic Falls High but soon became a surrogate parent to Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and a drinking buddy to Damon (Ian Somerhalder). (Let's not forget his epic dance moves when Klaus inhabited his body.) During Season 3 Original mama Esther turned Alaric into a crazy Original she could use to kill off her family but also bound him to Elena. When Elena careened off the bridge and died in the Season 3 finale, so did Alaric. Following his death, Alaric returned twice as a ghost in Season 4 — once when Damon visited his grave and again to, well, drink with Damon — and then in the 100th episode.

Indie production company Mercurio Domina (True Love) is at Cannes with a new project, Glitch, and co-writers/producers Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro provided us with an exclusive look at the film's teaser sales art.

Enrico Clerico Nasino will direct Glitch under the supervision of the Fabios.

"We loved so much the experience of working on an independent and self-contained movie that right now we're developing a mini-slate of micro budget movies with our company," says Guaglione.

"The first of them is going to be Glitch, a psychological thriller with a sci-fi background… or at least it seems so. Is it sci-fi or not? It's a movie about paranoia, about questioning what's real and what it isn't,"he adds.

"We don't want to reveal anything yet, not even the main concept, but we can say that the story deals with how internet influences more and more people's perception of reality,"continues Nasino. "It's a found footage movie… and we know that there's a kind of saturation of found footage movies in the market, but for Glitch we chose the found footage format for one specific reason you've never seen before. It's something new and makes perfect sense."

"We hoped to shoot Glitch during this summer, but then our project as directors, Mine [more about that here], kicked in, so we pushed Glitch's schedule, which is going to happen in the US probably next year. We can't wait to start and seed Glitch in the web. Viral content is going to be a big part of it; we hope to create some kind of brand for this story. And creating parallel clips beyond the movie is not going to be just milking marketing but a real extension of Glitch's main plot," ends Resinaro.

Mercurio Domina will produce the movie together with LRM, a company headed by Leonardo Recalcati, an Italian producer specializing in digital content.

The past catches up with the present in this new official trailer for "True Blood" Season 7, which features a bit of a recap as to how we got to where we are now along with some footage of the upcoming season we haven't seen yet. Look for the premiere in just about a month.

Time's running out to catch up before this Tuesday's season finale of "From Dusk Till Dawn," but El Rey Network is airing a special marathon today, May 18th, beginning at 9AM PT.

In addition, the upstart network has released an assortment of promos and "On Set" videos presented by Chevy that reveal Seth Gecko's Dream Car, spend a few moments with Jesse Garcia as Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, and go behind the scenes of the popular show.

Another adaptation of one of Stephen King's tales of terror is on its way as news has broken out of Cannes that Oculus and Somnia director Mike Flanagan will be the madman behind Gerald's Game.

According to Deadline Flanagan wrote the script with his writing partner Jeff Howard. Trevor Macy and his Intrepid Pictures banner will produce, as he also did on Flanagan’s two horror films.

Flanagan and Macy originally intended the next picture to be Diver, a film that would have started production this summer. They’ve pushed that picture back and instead will plunge full on into Gerald’s Game, which is casting for a fall start and will be selling at Cannes. King is very hands on and particular about filmmakers he trusts with rights to his novels. He takes upfront option fees as low as $1 (against a healthy back end), and when you are lucky enough to get one, you try to move fast.

Gerald’s Game revolves around a seemingly harmless contest between a married couple in a remote retreat. It escalates to become a harrowing fight for survival and wife Jessie must confront long-buried demons within her own mind — and possibly lurking in the shadows of her seemingly empty house.

“In the tradition of Misery and Dolores Claiborne, Gerald’s Game is one of the most intense and compelling novels I’ve ever read, and this has been a dream project for many years. Trevor and I are very excited to help translate that experience for an audience,” said Flanagan, who’ll push Diver back to 2015.

Greg McLean has been kicking a lot of cinematic ass lately and he is showing zero signs of slowing down. Next for the Wolf Creek franchise director is an adaptation of Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir Lost in the Jungle.

According to Variety the Aussie director is heading to the wilderness, coming on board to direct the thriller Jungle. Shooting is set for Bolivia and the rainforest on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Arclight Films is handling worldwide sales and will be presenting the project to buyers in Cannes.

Jungle is produced by Dana Lustig, Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy. Screen Australia and Screen Queensland have been supporting development of the project. The movie tells the story of a young man with adventurous dreams who heads into the Bolivian jungle with two friends and a fraudulent guide. Their journey soon turns into a frightening psychological test of faith and human fortitude.

The King of the Monster ruled the box office in a big way, and not just in the United States. Godzilla crushed the world in such convincing manner this weekend that Legendary/Warner Bros couldn’t even wait until the dust settles Monday morning to announce a sequel is on the way.

Initially forecast to only gross somewhere in the $70 million range, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla stomped expectations bringing in $93.2 million domestically its opening weekend. By comparison, the universally reviled 1998 American Godzilla’s total domestic gross was only $136 million. Even adjusted for inflation this Zilla is expected to do double that of the 1998 flick.

The King of the Monsters is also doing monstrous business internationally except, ironically, in Japan; they won’t get to see the newest incarnation of their homegrown monster until July. The lucrative China market doesn’t get it until next month. Having already opened to an addition $104 million globally, China and Japan could potentially add another $200 million.

So how do you follow news that your movie just scored the second highest opening weekend of the year just $2 million less than Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

You announce a sequel. Duh!

Deadline broke the news Sunday morning that Legendary/Warner Bros have already confirmed Godzilla will rise from the depths once more to almost assuredly fight King Ghidorah or Mothra (I’m just speculating because I’d be stunned if one or both of those iconic Godzilla foes do not appear in a sequel). It remains to be seen if Gareth Edwards will be back at the helm of the confirmed sequel.

Compare this news to that earlier in the week when Legendary honcho Thomas Tull was asked about the prospects of a Pacific Rim sequel and gave a diplomatic deflection that could easily be interpreted to mean it will never happen, let it go already. Sorry, Pacific Rim fans.

Godzilla may be getting all the giant monster love right now (and rightly so) but something else big is stomping around the Cannes Film Market. That's right, kids! Kong is back like you've NEVER seen him before! Read on for details and a trailer.

As per Variety Aquamen Entertainment have released the first trailer for the $40-million 3D animation feature, Kong from producers Jeongjung Kim and Gary Lee.

The feature, a 3D animated science-fiction film based on the Asian tale of ‘Sun Wukong’ (commonly called the Monkey King), will be co-developed along with a major Korean animation studio and the backing of the Chinese Cultural Chamber of Commerce of the Private Sector.

We told you about Howl a couple of days ago and right now we have the first bit of casting news straight out of Cannes. Screen Daily reports that A Lonely Place to Die's Ed Speleers and The Descent's Shauna Macdonald have joined the Paul Wyett helmed production.

Howl tells the story of a midnight train which is attacked by a terrifying pack of werewolves, forcing a shy ticket inspector to unleash his inner beast to lead his passengers to safety and survive the night.

Nick Ostler and Mark Huckerby penned the screenplay.

More acquisition news out of Cannes... Screen Daily reports that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has acquired UK rights to The Last Showing featuring Robert Englund from The Philm Company and SC Films.

Synopsis:

Chloe Sevigny and "Orange is the New Black"'s Natasha Lyonne together in a horror film? Yep, sign us up please. The barrage of news from Cannes continues as Screen Daily is reporting that that UK sales outfit Kaleidoscope has boarded international rights to the U.S. flick, Antibirth!

“The film charts the story of a wild-eyed stoner living in a barren desert community who seems to be growing pregnant as rumors of aliens spread.“

Antibirth is currently in pre-production for a shoot in August 2014. Expect to hear more... lots more about this one as it comes.
