Anyone who owns an iPhone knows what a useful app "Find My iPhone" is. That shit comes in handy, and I've personally used it several times. That being said, filmmaker Darrell Wheat is ready to use it for nefarious purposes in his new movie, Recovery.

The flick, starting production this summer, stars Kirby Bliss Blanton (pictured; The Green Inferno, Project X), Samuel Larsen (pictured; “Glee”), Alex Shaffer and James Landry Hébert. Recovery was written by Wheat and Kyle Arrington (“The Originals”). Eric B. Fleischman’s EBF Productions and Sean Tabibian are producing. Continental Media reps international rights.

The film follows Blanton's character on the night of her high school graduation after her iPhone is stolen and tracked down with a "find my iPhone" app to a house where the demented tenants plan on kidnapping her and making her part of the family.

Producer Antony I. Ginnane plans to be staying busy on the remake scene. He was the man behind Patrick and its remake Patrick: Evil Awakens, and now he's digging up two more of his films, The Survivor and Thirst to get the redux treatment.

The news comes via Screen Daily. “Genre – particularly thrillers, sci-fi and action – never really dates,” said Ginnane. “Sales agents and international buyers like something that has been previously tested, has cult resonance and is made for a price. In some cases we are selling to the children of the guys who bought the originals.”

Rod Hardy-directed 1979's Thirst. The descendant of Elizabeth Bathory is abducted by a cult of self-proclaimed supermen who achieve this state of superiority by drinking from the "blood cows" (read: people) kept at the "dairy farm", and they try to get her to join them.

David Hemmings directed the 1981 flick, The Survivor. A plane crashes just after takeoff and the only survivor, the pilot walks out of the wreckage. He doesn't remember the explosion or the crash, but 300 passengers & crew are dead. As the investigation goes on people are wanting answers.

Fox quietly released an International trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and it flew under our radar... until now of course. Check it out and look for the film in theatres - in 3D even - on July 11th, 2014.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smith-Mcphee, Enrique Muriciano, and Kirk Acevedo; James Franco has a cameo.

It's directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay by Mark Bomback and Rich Jaffa & Amanda Silver based on characters created by Jaffa and Silver.

He was a producer on the "Tommy Wi-Show" (featuring the infamous Tommy Wiseau from The Room playing video games on the moon) and worked with Liam Lynch to bring back "Syfl & Olly" (the greatest sock puppet show over conceived).

Attack of the Devil stars Raymond McAnally ("30 Rock,""Boardwalk Empire") as Father Joseph, and also features Timothy A. Bennett (Gingerdead Man vs. Evil Bong, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!").

On Tuesday, June 3, the Motor City will celebrate RoboCop Day to honor the brave men and women of the Detroit Police Department. There will be a RoboCop appearance and meet and greet, a chance for the fans to check out some screen used memorabilia and...

...the action will culminate with RoboCop throwing out the first pitch for a Detroit Tigers game.

In conjunction with the release of RoboCop on Blu-ray and DVD, RoboCop Day promises to be a memorable event and it's open to all. Paramount has switched around the releases of two of their upcoming genre films, the newest installment of Friday the 13th and Scouts vs. Zombies. Read on for the details.

Scouts vs. Zombies will open March 13, 2015, the date originally assigned to Friday the 13th, which will now see release 8 months later than scheduled on November 13, 2015.

Sarah Dumont, Halston Sage, Lukas Gage, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller, Joseph Morgan, and David Koechner star in Scouts, directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones). Andy Fickman, Todd Garner, Bryan Brucks and Betsy Sullenger are producing. The movie follows a group of Boy Scouts who try to fend off a zombie attack in their small town.

Director David Bruckner (The Signal, V/H/S) is in talks to helm the new film in the Friday franchise but has yet to confirm.

Pittsburgh Independent horror documentary film, Road Trip of the Dead, an Evans City Production, has helped raise funds to place a marker on the grave of the unknown skeletal remains used in the 1978 film, George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. In doing research for the documentary/reality horror film, the group of independent filmmakers stumbled upon a story of a real skeleton used in the 1978 horror film.

Tom Savini borrowed a skeleton, thinking it to be a prop from the late Larry Wintersteller for the production. After the film was completed, Mr. Wintersteller sold the skeleton to Marilyn Wick of the famous Costume World costume shops and Wick Theatre. Mrs. Wick placed the skeleton in her window at the old location until authorities noticed how real it looked. The skeleton was confiscated in 1982 and an autopsy was performed by the famous Coroner Joshua Perper, who later performed the autopsy of Anna Nicole Smith. After the autopsy the skeleton was determined to be the remains of a 35-year old woman which were approximately 100-years old.

All those in connection to the skeleton were questioned and Mr. Wintersteller stated that he knew the skeleton was real and had purchased the skeleton from an Old Fellows Lodge that used it in ignition ceremonies and events. Both Mr. Savini and Mrs. Wick stated they had no knowledge of the skeleton being a real person. The corner added that the effects that Mr. Savini had added to the skeleton were very impressive and seemed like aged flesh. That is actually what had drawn attention to the skeleton in the first place. In late 1982, an Allegheny County Pennsylvania Court Judge ordered that the skeletal remains were to be buried. David Fryer Funeral Home of Pittsburgh donated services including a funeral, limo and grave plot at Mount Lebanon Cemetery also in Pittsburgh.

The plot remained unmarked for the last 31 years until documentary filmmakers Harmoni and William Sanders, Russel Douglas, Lawrence DeVincentz and Matt Blazi decided to make a documentary/reality hybrid film called Road Trip of the Dead headed by Harmoni and William Sanders. Mrs. Sanders and the group decided that it was the right thing to do to finally give this woman a proper marker. Since the remains are unknown, the group and the cemetery decided to mark the grave “Dawn Doe, Unknown Finally laid to rest March 19th, 1983."

The down payment was made by Mrs. Sanders and group, but $1100 needed to be raised to finish purchasing the marker, preparations and fees over the next year. This was where the story looped back around to the beginning with Mrs. Wick contributing the necessary funds and give Dawn Doe a proper headstone.

Road Trip of the Dead Synopsis
The synopsis of the film couldn’t be truer. A group of friends set out to make a documentary about Pittsburgh Horror Film Locations. The group soon finds out that the horror they love is becoming a reality. The film is currently filming and stars Tom Savini, Gary Streiner and Jim Krut and more Romero stars are being added as they film all across Western Pennsylvania at all the Romero based sites.

In this eerie and chilling contemporary action/special effects-laden homage to the classic Chinese vampire movies of the 1980’s, writer-director-producer Juno Mak makes his feature directorial debut. Co-produced by J-Horror icon Takashi Shimizu, and reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic Mr. Vampire series, Rigor Mortis is set in a creepy and moody Hong Kong public housing tower whose occupants, we soon discover, run the gamut from the living to the dead to the undead, along with ghosts, vampires, and zombies.

Synopsis
RIGOR MORTIS stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho (Siu-ho) as a former vampire hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star, separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into Room 2442 in the housing estate, an allegedly haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants" of the building including a Taoist master-exorcist (Anthony Chan), a traumatized housewife with a tragic past (Kara Hui), as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman (Paw Hee-ching) who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment. Soon it becomes apparent to Siu-ho that the people around him and the situation are far from normal. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, Siu-ho is soon thrust into the battle of his life as vicious vampires with unsettled business begin to rise from the dead...

We may not be living in the End Times, but we are certainly living in strange times. Nicolas Cage starring in a remake of a Kirk Cameron movie? The power of Cage compels you to feast your eyes upon the official trailer and new poster for the Rapture reboot Left Behind.

A while back we got to see the first footage from the remake of Left Behind featuring Cage uttering something along the lines of "If my wife had to leave me for another man, it might as well be Jesus." Keep in mind the film is not meant to be a comedy.

No. This Left Behind is from the same people responsible for the Kirk Cameron series, but this time they're aiming for more secular viewers by making the film a bit less preachy and a bit more disaster-y. One look at the trailer, and yes, indeed, "disaster" comes to mind.

The trailer still has nothing on the Photoshop disaster that is the official poster. Who in their right mind approved that? The expression on Cage’s face! As if he’s staring back at the viewer agreeing that he has no clue what the hell he’s doing in this movie either.

Stuntman-director Vic Armstrong helms the reboot that co-stars Chad Michael Murray, Jordin Sparks, and Nicky Whelan amongst those left behind when God raptures all the good and righteous Christians up to heaven, leaving every airplane in the air at the time ready to come crashing down to earth like so many fallen angels.

The trailer swears Left Behind will be in theaters on October 3rd despite looking even more direct-to-video than The Omega Code movies.

Hey, maybe they can remake those films next also starring Nic Cage but as more of a National Treasure by way of the Bible Code. Yep, I definitely smell the "In God We Trust" all over the money those films will mint.

We're big fans of horror photog Joshua Hoffine here at Dread Central, and so too are the folks at Mezco, who just signed him up for their upcoming book 16 Years of Terror- Art Inspired by The Living Dead Dolls, heading our way by year-end.

Last week we got word that Canadian TV network Space had committed to a second season of "Bitten," their most-watched original series ever, and Syfy is hot on their heels with an announcement of their own...

And the merry-go-round that is Sony's Ghostbusters reboot/sequel continues spinning as some more non-news has hit the Net with regard to the long-gestating project's director. The Wrap reports that a name familiar to the horror crowd is now in the mix...

While doing a story on the shake-up behind the scenes of Marvel's Ant-Man, the site included this tidbit about Ghostbusters III:

Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is also in the mix for the high-profile [Ant-Man] job, but he just had a baby with his wife, publicist Holly Shakoor Fleischer, and may be reluctant to take a demanding gig that will require such a big commitment. He's also being considered to direct Ghostbusters III for Sony, for whom he directed Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less, though that project isn't heading into production nearly as soon.

So take that bit of info as you will, and as always, expect more soon.

Production could start as early as this fall, but it's expected to begin early next year in New York. Etan Cohen penned the new script, which is cut from the same cloth as the original films. The original Ghostbusters will have a very small role in the sequel. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who played Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, respectively, are expected to return, though Bill Murray's involvement is questionable. You may recall that Murray had a cameo in Zombieland so maybe Fleischer can get him to commit after all!

Most of the regulars appear in this new trailer for Season 7, the last hurrah of HBO's "True Blood." It arrives in just a few more weeks with a premiere directed by Stephen Moyer, and while we're not expecting a full return to the show's previous glory, we do have hopes that it will end on a high note.

"Salem" explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them.

The series stars Janet Montgomery as the ruthless but vulnerable Mary Sibley, Salem’s most powerful enchantress; Shane West as handsome, hardened war veteran John Alden – and Mary’s onetime love interest; Seth Gabel as local aristocrat Cotton Mather, who fans the flames of Salem’s witch hunt; Ashley Madekwe as Mary’s mysterious, carnal accomplice, Tituba; Xander Berkeley as chief politician Magistrate Hale; Tamzin Merchant as the forthright Anne Hale, an artist with a perilous attraction to Alden; Elise Eberle as the mysteriously afflicted Mercy Lewis; and Iddo Goldberg as outcast Isaac Walton.

"Salem" Episode 1.07 - "Our Own Private America" (airs 6/1/14)
When a shakeup within the coven leaves Mary with more power than ever, she hatches her most nefarious plan yet to bring the witches closer to achieving the Grand Rite. Alden and Cotton, reeling from the aftermath of their interrogation, question the efficacy of the trials while Cotton is left to wonder if his life's work has amounted to anything.

Alden finds himself weaker by the day – a victim of a dream spell that Mary uses to search Alden’s subconscious to locate the Malum – and work out her sexual frustration in the process. Meanwhile, with Mary’s attentions increasingly focused on her old flame Alden and her new pupil Mercy, tension escalates between Mary and Tituba.

We're just a couple of days away from the release of Stephen King's latest, Mr. Mercedes, which arrives on Tuesday, June 3rd. To celebrate, his publishers have released some promo and teaser videos - one of which stars our old pal Pennywise.

The ever-vigilant Lilja's Library brought the vids to our attention, and if you click the link to their site at the bottom of the page, they'll point you in the direction of more familiar faces introducing King's new book: Danny from The Shining and Carrie from, well, Carrie.

Synopsis:
