The Dead Files Back to Haunt Us Saturday, July 12One of the best damned paranormal shows ever created, Travel Channel's "The Dead Files," is gearing up for its sixth season premiere, and we have all the details you need to prep for the chills to come.... and make no mistake - they will come.

From the Press Release
Former NYPD Homicide Detective Steve DiSchiavi and medium Amy Allan are well-respected experts in their individual fields. Partnered together, they form a powerful paranormal investigative duo with a proven track record of uncanny accuracy.

In an all-new season of Travel Channel’s hit original series “The Dead Files,” premiering Saturday, July 12, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, DiSchiavi and Allan head back on the road to help beleaguered homeowners as they uncover paranormal histories and mysteries buried within all-new haunted locations. Moving to a new night of the week, the series' sixth season features thirteen hour-long episodes – each rife with gripping stories, eerie occurrences, and shocking conclusions.

From the Pacific Northwest to the Florida Everglades, DiSchiavi and Allan are on a mission to help solve each case and restore peace to their distressed clients – whether it’s an entire family living in terror, a besieged business, or an unexplained violent attack. As they arrive on scene, DiSchiavi and Allan investigate each case independently of one another to preserve the integrity of their individual findings. As a physical medium, Allan sees and communicates with the dead, uncovering layers of paranormal activity beyond anyone’s imagination. Harnessing his detective skills, DiSchiavi researches the facts – interrogating witnesses and experts and perusing records to understand each location’s history, however dark or buried it may be. The team avoids all contact with each other until the very end, when they reveal their shocking discoveries to the homeowner in each episode’s intense conclusion. Drawing upon her experiences with the supernatural, Allan then provides much-needed advice for each client so they can reclaim a sense of normalcy within their lives.

In the season premiere, Steve DiSchiavi and Amy Allan travel to Florida City, Florida – a town ravaged by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 – to help a frightened family terrorized by disturbing paranormal activity. The “attacks” have become so frequent that the entire family sleeps in the same room at night. Simultaneously, homeowner Tracy has undergone a drastic personality change, putting strain on her marriage. While DiSchiavi discovers Tracy’s property was once part of an area annihilated by the hurricane and near the scene of a vicious and fatal police shootout in 1916, Allan encounters several terrifying entities – including a group of decaying “zombie-like” entities and a dark shadow figure that has possessed the living for some time.

Upcoming investigations take place in Abilene, Texas; Chester Springs, Pa; Flint, Mich.; Ft. Barnwell, N.C.; Hanover, Pa.; Leslie, Mich.; Roseburg, Ore.; Santa Paula, Calif; St. Louis, Mo.; Sumpter, Ore.; Toledo, Ohio; and Warsaw, Ind.

“The Dead Files” is produced by Painless Entertainment, Inc., for the Travel Channel. For Painless the executive producer is Jim Casey, and the co-executive producers are Ross Kaiman and Rob Rosen. The executive producer for the Travel Channel is David E. Gerber.

Attempted Pre-Teen Murder Blamed on Fictional Character Slender Man

Attempted Pre-Teen Murder Blamed on Fictional Character Slender ManChances are you're familiar with the creepy character known as Slender Man, who has been haunting the internet since 2009, and now he's being blamed for an attempted murder in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

An unnaturally tall figure with a black suit and blank white face, Slender Man is said to torture and torment young children, and he's unexpectedly just found himself being fingered for a particularly nasty real-life crime.

JSOnline reports the chilling details of a near fatal crime that took place over the weekend in Wisconsin, wherein two pre-teen girls stabbed a 12-year-old classmate 19 times, allegedly to show their dedication to the fictional Slender Man. Yeah. Seriously. We wish we were making this up, but we're unfortunately not.

The two young girls had allegedly planned the murder for nearly a year after coming across the story of Slender Man on the internet. According to their claims, they thought that the murder would show Slender Man that they were worthy of becoming his minions, and they say that he had been watching them in recent months, threatening to kill their families if they didn't do as he said.

Their plan was to take up residence in Slender Man's mansion after the crime, which they believed to be located in a forest in northern Wisconsin. One of the girls even packed pictures of her family members for the trip so that she wouldn't forget what they looked like. It seems she planned on permanently spending the rest of her days with the character, never returning to her normal life.

The attempted murder took place at a local park, where the girls held down their victim and repeatedly stabbed her in the arms, legs, and torso. "The bad part of me wanted her to die," one of the girls told police. "The good part of me wanted her to live."

Thankfully, the victim survived her attack and was found on Saturday by a bicyclist, barely clinging to life. The two girls are being charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and are each facing up to 65 years in prison.

If you want to read more, head over to JSOnline for the full story, which isn't for the faint of heart.

Crytek Unleashes Announce Trailer for Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age

Crytek Unleashes Announce Trailer for Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded AgeThe foreboding seal rests on the door of the tomb, a tarantula crawling across its gritty surface. A coffin lids breaks open as the camera trucks endlessly in retreat; only to have its frame intruded on by an unholy battalion of undead marauders.

This was our glorious introduction to Crytek USA’s new co-op horror game, Hunt: The Horrors of the Gilded Age, in today’s announce trailer.

Developers describe the game as “a third-person action game where up to four players band together to fend off an onslaught of bloodthirsty creatures and track down breathtaking bosses.”

The game’s horror will be derived from ancient folklore tails made true, all pointing “to the terrifying truth about evil lurking just beyond the fringes of day-to-day life.”

Based on the architecture found in the background of the trailer, the clear voodoo markings on one of the monsters, and the Southern drawl of the trailer’s narrator, it is safe to say that Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will take place in the bayou of the Southern United States.

Following in the footsteps of the recent horror title Daylight, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age is procedurally generated, meaning level layouts and encounters are generated randomly. A multiplayer title such as this already has a high replay value, but this adds a new layer to its replayabilty, ensuring no two gaming experiences will be alike.

Continuing the trend with action shooters, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age encourages a strategic approach over the all hell breaks loose in a hail of gunfire style. Crytek stresses that counting bullets and close collaboration are key to surviving in this upcoming horror game.

If you’re already salivating at the thought of this new title, no solid release date has been set, but it has been announced that the game will be available for both PC and consoles. In the meantime, PC users will be able to sign up for a beta test later this year at the official Hunt website.

Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will be also be presented at this year’s E3. You can find it at the Crytek booth #4500 in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Eric Bana Talks Deliver Us From Evil, the Supernatural, and Ouija Boards!

Eric Bana Talks Deliver Us From Evil, the Supernatural, and Ouija Boards! We're back with another installment in our extensive Deliver Us From Evil interview series, and today we chat with the film's star, Eric Bana. Read on to find out what scares him and much more!

Dread Central: So, we heard some weird stuff happened while you were making this movie.

Eric Bana: With me, not much. I mean, the set was pretty gnarly anyway because we were shooting nights on the streets down in the Bronx so the set always was very dynamic. It wasn’t the sort of set where you, you know, like put your phone down and forget about it and go on. You know what I mean? It was like, the crew were constantly on edge because of where we were shooting and what we were doing.

So I think regardless of what subject matter the film was dealing with or anything like that, it had a very edgy feel. Nothing happened to me. Actually, the special effects makeup guys had a lot of weird stuff that was going on for them back at their work shop. That was about the only one that I was aware of. I kind of blinkered myself to a lot of it to be honest because I saw enough in pre-production to sort of have the desired effect of freaking you out, and in order to do my job I was just trying to blinker a lot of that stuff out.

DC: Do you think that subconsciously we suggest things that happen and everything that happens is, “Oh, I saw that happen because I’m talking about that.” We associate things that are not normally happening to something just because we want to do it.

EB: Yeah, that’s interesting. I think there’s an idea out there, a lot of it is about what frequency you choose to tune into and I guess the bigger question is does a frequency occasionally choose you or do you choose the frequency? I’ve got an idea that there are some people that are more in tune to living on that frequency than others and whether that’s a conscious choice. Because there’s no doubt that if you've actually been really, really scared, if you’ve seen something that’s made you feel uncomfortable and you’ve gone back to your house and had a few hours where you just really feel like something’s over your shoulder or you catch something at the edge of your frame that’s not there, I think that’s an example of where you’ve chosen to tune in to that frequency, right? So I’ve got an idea that some people don’t have a choice; some people kind of live there. So I’ve gone around in circles, but yes, I do agree that sometimes it's one and sometimes it's the other.

DC: What scares you?

EB: Walking down stairs. I don’t have any weird fears other than running down stairs. I don’t like running down stairs. I broke my foot once after a gig on a stairwell where it was in the dark and the stairs went down and then there was a landing and I got to the landing and I thought I was at the bottom of the stairs but the landing went like that and the stairwell went like this and I just walked off the landing and I flew down and broke a foot. Ever since then I’ve hated traveling downstairs fast. So if I’m ever doing a chase in a film, I would say I’ll do anything you want me to do but just don’t ask me to run down the stairs.

DC: You talk about tuning in so what about yourself? What is your relationship with the supernatural? Have you witnessed an exorcism or have you ever had supernatural things happen to you?

EB: The thing that affected me the most was in pre-production Scott shared some materials with us. Actually, I was a little bit pissed off because at one point he just put this particular piece of material in front of us and it happened so quick and I was watching something that I really didn’t want to watch and that really, really affected me. I wouldn’t say freaked me out, but most definitely I saw something that I immediately identified as not faked and something that I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get out of my head. I would ideally want to be able to get it out of my head, and I felt like I didn’t have any say in that. It was like, 'Okay, I can’t unsee what I just saw,' but it was very important that I saw it for what we were doing. So that’s probably the most prominent thing for me and it’s probably similar to something you witnessed. It’s someone who’s suffering in a way that you can’t relate to it and you know that they’re not acting. I mean, there’s no actor alive who could do what I saw happening to someone. I have no way of explaining what that person was going through or why. For privacy reasons I can’t talk about what I saw but it was enough to give me a very uncomfortable week.

DC: Do you believe in the effect of exorcisms? What the scientists say, the skeptics, they say that this has to do with culture. They are manipulating, especially the angelic pastors that are doing this, they manipulate and the people who go in are so open and they believe that they have demons and that’s why they also react with screaming and changing appearance and everything. But that in reality it’s just because subconsciously they kind of are open for it and want it to happen and believe that this is what is supposed to happen?

EB: I would like to agree with that.

DC: Growing up did you do the Ouija board and stuff like that?

EB: No, and I’m glad I didn’t because after meeting Ralph and really getting to know Ralph, it made me realize that, you know, getting back to that frequency thing, I think there is something to be said for what you invite in and what frequency you choose to operate on and Ralph’s very deadly serious about a lot of this stuff to the point that he’s told me about going to help people investigate things and then he’s gone into their room and he’s found things like that where they’ve lied to him about the fact. Like, 'Are you dabbling in any of the following... blah blah blah,' and he’s gone into their room and he’s found, whether it be an object under a pillow or a bed or something that they’ve lied about, and he just gets up and walks out and leaves and never returns. He’s just not going to help that person, like, 'You just lied to me, and that’s it. We’re done.'

DC: I think teenagers go through that phase. I mean, do you tell your kids not to use one?

EB: Yeah, I guess I’d probably try and discourage it.

DC: Do you like to feel emotional fear?

EB: I think it’s very healthy. I enjoy it personally and I think it’s like anything else that adrenalizes. I don’t think it’s something that you necessarily have to enjoy at the time. It’s about how it makes you feel afterwards. In the context of a movie, if you go and see a movie like this, and you see it in a cinema, ideally, not on your phone, and you get to walk out of the cinema and its daylight, it’s like, 'Ahh, I’m so glad I saw a daytime session.' And I think that feeling is pardoned in teenage years when you are just constantly searching for titillation; you are constantly searching for things that push the boundaries so I can understand why the genre is very popular amongst the younger audience because it just makes sense that you are constantly searching for that hit, for that adrenaline so I understand the reasons for it. I’m not a fan of huge crazy jump scares. I’m not really into slasher kind of movies.

DC: So when you chose this one, where you aware of, like, I don’t want to just do a horror movie that is just not for the actors?

EB: Exactly, yes, so for me I loved the script, I loved the character. I was a big fan of Scott’s work and there’s no way I would have done this film with a first time director. There’s just no chance. I really understood that this was a human story set in a somewhat supernatural world. The film itself has a very kind of skeptical way of viewing the material. It’s hard to talk about without you seeing it but it’s not exclusively for people who believe in this stuff. There are a lot of exit doors for people who don’t. You’re still going to be scared but there are enough exit doors on the ride for you to convince yourself that you can get off if you choose to. And that was very important, I think. Scott's understanding for the genre... you know, my favorite films are the ones in that ilk like The Exorcist or The Shining where you’re following a person, you’re following a character, and these things happen. It makes it far scarier than a bunch of people just exposed to jump scares.

DC: Would you like to be a policeman?

EB: I did go through a phase as a young adult where I thought I was wanting to join the police force. Fortunately, I didn’t. It was a short-lived fantasy as a young man. When I didn’t have a lot of options I thought that was going to be one of my job options. Ralph was great to hang out with. He was around every day and I spent a lot of time with him before we shot the film. He was a great influence for me. Not in terms of asking him specific information or getting specific stories. I quickly ascertained after spending some time with him that my time was far better utilized with him by asking him nothing. And sometimes it’s the opposite, sometimes all you want is information and stories and things that you can hold on to. So much of the character in this film is about who Ralph is and what’s going on inside of him and his internal journey that as an actor and as a person I felt like the most relevant thing for me to do was to ask him very little and to just soak him up and just spend time with him as a friend. We had a touchstone in that we both loved motorcycles so there was always something to talk about that had nothing to do with the film and nothing to do with the subject matter. I would hear him talk to other people and tell stories that I would inadvertently be listening to but I never specifically sat Ralph down and said, 'Ralph, you are going to come and tell me the five really scary things that had happened.' I never did that with him. It wasn’t part of my process of working on this film.

DC: Did you do any ride alongs with the police?

EB: Yeah, we did actually, and that was very interesting and a good little adrenaline fix being exposed to that stuff, but in the long run, to me, the most beneficial thing was just hanging out with Ralph and just by osmosis trying to pick up some of his character.

DC: When you are playing a real person, do you find as an actor that it is more helpful to have that person in front of you, or would you rather play a character who is long dead so that you don’t really have the pressure?

EB: Well, it can definitely go both ways. I’ve obviously been in situations where it’s been the opposite where I’ve spent time with someone I’ve portrayed, haven’t had the ability to meet the person I’ve portrayed because of security reasons, haven’t had the ability to meet the person because they’ve passed so I’ve run the full gamut. I think the most important thing is to be really open. When I came on board to do this film I wasn’t aware that Ralph would be there every single day. In fact that he would be there during rehearsals even. So that was something that had I known that in the beginning, it would have freaked me out, but you just get to a point in your life where you have to go. 'I've just got to breathe and try and make the most of this,' and not be, 'This is how it’s going to be; you are not permitted to come on set on the following days...' I just try to let all that stuff go. So it’s interesting to work the extremes and sometimes it’s very, very beneficial to be able to meet the person, sometimes it’s wonderful to be free of that, so it just depends.

Joel McHale, Sean Harris, Edgar Ramirez, and Olivia Munn star alongside Eric Bana. The film is a paranormal thriller produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Derrickson directs a script he and Paul Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) wrote.

Look for it in theaters July 2, 2014.

Synopsis
New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. Go Behind the Scenes of Penny Dreadful for a Look at its Monsters' Make-up and ProstheticsPersonally, all I needed to know to make sure "Penny Dreadful" is set on my DVR is that it stars the red-hot Eva Green, but it also has monsters - lots and lots of monsters, and this new video shows us how they came into being.

A profoundly unsettling new saga, "Penny Dreadful" completely reinvents literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, who are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London.

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 – Exclusive Red Carpet Interviews and Premiere Date Info

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 – Exclusive Red Carpet InterviewsAmongst the headstones at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their beloved headless horseman TV show, Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow”, which will be returning for a much-anticipated second season on September 22nd.

In case you’re not familiar with the show, basically it’s about a magically resurrected Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) who’s pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery which dates all the way back to America’s founding fathers. Along for the wild ride is a modern day cop, Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie).

Joining the show this coming season are Timothy Busfield (best known for his role on “thirtysomething”) as Benjamin Franklin, plus “House of Cards” star Sakina Jaffrey as the new sheriff and “One Tree Hill” alum Matt Barr as a bounty hunter.

On their way to the Masonic Lodge to show a few clips (they’ve only got two episodes in the can so far) and do a Q&A, the show’s two leading stars and producers walked the red carpet and answered our questions.

September seems a long ways off, and so of course we wanted to know how soon in the season some of those nail-biting cliffhangers are going to be addressed.

Executive producer Mark Goffman told us, “We left everybody in some pretty tough situations, but you have to be true to those situations, so I don’t think it’s going to be easy, and I don’t think people would expect it to be. So, we aren’t going to resolve it right away. We need to give every character their just time to figure out where and how to get out of their situations… if they can figure out how.”

At least there will be 18 episodes on tap, up from the 13 of Season 1. Producer Len Wiseman admitted, “Going from 13 episodes to 18 is a lot more work. It just is. But it’s two-fold. It allows us to really expand and take a little bit more time with the storylines that we want to, but it also means that we really, really have to prepare because we are trying to pull off a little movie every week. We’ve got a fantastic crew that’s up for the challenge of it, and it is a real challenge to just keep the bar up when you add more episodes.

The show’s co-creator, Roberto Orci, said of the stretch, “We’re trying to not have any filler. Every episode is meant to be epic and to feel like a season finale.” The main thing is, “How will our characters deal with the fact that our classic villain is someone they are related to by blood?

That was, of course, the cliffhanger: that Ichabod Crane’s own son was the bad guy. Orci said, “Obviously [Crane’s son being evil] was a big shock to him! Which makes his fight in this season difficult. It’s difficult enough fighting a villain, but when the villain is someone whom you may feel responsible for their villainy… he asks himself, is it because he was a bad father? How much can he blame himself? How much can he believe he can maybe help his son not be the villain that he is? Is he going to have to face off again his own son and do something he doesn’t want to have to do? Is there any reconciliation there possible? That’s drama.

It’s not just drama for the fans, but the actors as well. When I asked Tom Mison, “How would you like to see Crane handle his son’s villainy?” He replied, “It’s something that, throughout the break in filming, has been on my mind constantly. Desperate emails to Mark Goffman asking, 'What happens? What happens?' Never mind Ichabod having to prepare for it… I have to prepare for it! It’s a big one. It’s a tough family dilemma.

Orci wouldn’t reveal any spoilers, but he did say, “Their physical jeopardy wraps up in a few episodes. But their souls’ jeopardy… never! Or at least until the end of the series... And yours too!” he laughed.

That’s all fantasy, fiction, and drama – the dilemma, I mean… but how do they approach real life figures from history? Since Timothy Busfield will be joining the cast as Benjamin Franklin, I asked producer Heather Kadin what they draw on. “Well, it’s a combo” of fact and myth, she said. “That’s how we approached the pilot, like, when we were doing research and found out George Washington’s body was moved. I mean, wow, did you know that George Washington’s body was moved? And why? So there are some things in history that are just kind of insane on their own and so it’s a jumping off point.

Orci agreed, “Yeah, history is not written in stone. History is being revised all the time, as we learn new things. History is a living document for a lot of academics, and so finding out what the very latest theory on what’s going on is actually part of the fun. You think you knew everything but [surprise] you don’t. When it comes to Ben Franklin, of course everyone knows about the kite and the key. But some people don’t know he was quite the ladies’ man.”

And he liked to be naked a lot,” Kadin chimed in. I asked how they handle that on commercial TV, and she said, “We can imply his nudity, but I don’t know if anybody really wants to see Benjamin Franklin naked.

Orci rejoined, “Hey, Timothy Busfield is a very good looking man.” To which Wiseman added, “Yeah, he’d just be free-ballin! No, not really. He’s not naked ‘a lot’… The man has clothes!” Goffman said, “Anyone who knows Franklin history knows he was not a modest man, so we play with that.” Wiseman deadpanned, “Yeah. We thought that would work great for our show!

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 – Exclusive Red Carpet InterviewsSince the show’s creators and producers have worked so heavily in genre (Orci with the Star Trek films, Wiseman with the Underworld films, and so on), a genre that has such passionate fans, I asked if they can indeed guide the series.

Goffman hedged, “Well, in the first season in particular, it was fun to just interact with the fans and see how they would react to what we’d shot. More than guiding the season. A show like this really does have to be mapped out pretty far in advance.

Beharie countered, “I would venture to say that some of the things the fans have said online have actually swayed the writers… like when people are talking about his clothes and the whole skinny jeans thing. I think that came from the pressure online, a little bit. We care about what they think. We honestly want to please them. I feel like they have a lot more power than they may know.

Wiseman said, “I find that [fans can influence the show] more in its fine detail than the overall plots and structure of it. For instance, there was so much reaction as to whether or not Ichabod was ever going to change his coat. So because of that, we listened. My point of view on it was actually, no, he wouldn’t change his coat because he’s stubborn and he’s not somebody who has any interest in the people of the modern era. That’s part of his character. And he also feels safe in this. This is what he’s comfortable in. But that’s something that came up so much, we addressed it. But we addressed it in a way that fit with his character; he tries it, and he does change his clothes, but they’re period.

Mison said of all the thing to talk about, “Fans mostly talk about the coat!” I told him, “Yes… we know that. So, what else do they talk about?” “I think we are fortunate that we’ve got a really, really nice fan base. They get really invested in it, so much. 'Sleepy-Heads,' we call them,” he said. “I think it’s just so nice that we live in an age [of social networking] where they can constantly say to us, 'This is amazing.' And we can in turn see what they are doing: the art work, the fan fiction that’s inspired by the work that we are doing. There is no greater compliment for an actor or creator.

And of course, I had to ask, as my final question, “What can the fans look forward to in the very first episode of Season 2?” Mison answered, “In the first episode fans can expect it to take off exactly where the Season 1 finale ended. So, you can expect the absolute peak of our last 13 episodes to be the starting point. It’s very exciting stuff!

New Horror Documentary Comes in Pieces

New Horror Documentary Comes in PiecesThere's no question that lately there's been a resurgence in horror anthology films, due in no small part to the success of the V/H/S franchise, and now one indie filmmaker is taking a look at the subgenre with the doc We Come in Pieces: The Rebirth of the Horror Anthology Film.

From the Press Release
WE COME IN PIECES is a documentary short that chronicles and celebrates the past, present, and future of horror anthology films.

When filmmaker Ryan Spindell (Kirksdale, The Root of the Problem) set out to make his horror anthology film THE MORTUARY COLLECTION, producers rejected it outright. Time and time again, he was told that horror anthologies are dead at the studio level, but the question no one seemed to be able to answer was why?

To find out, Spindell teamed up with documentary filmmaker Ben Hethcoat (Dead Dad, D.I.Y), and together they sat down with legendary moviemakers Joe Dante (Gremlins, Twilight Zone: The Movie), Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat), Darin Scott (Tales from the Hood), Larry Fessenden (I Sell the Dead), and a handful of genre experts to discuss the horror anthologies they love, the current state of the format, and the future of the horror anthology film.

In the course of making the documentary, Spindell and Hethcoat discovered that despite the studios reluctance to get behind the horror anthology format, the fans of the long-dormant subgenre are as fervent as ever. With renewed enthusiasm the filmmakers have set out to connect directly with those fans by launching a Kickstarter Campaign to finance THE MORTUARY COLLECTION independently.

Spend Nearly 4 Minutes With The Bonesetter

Spend Nearly 4 Minutes With The BonesetterNext out of the gate for you indie horror loving cats is a new sneak peek from the next flick from Brett Kelly, The Bonesetter! Even the title unnerves us a bit. Check it out along with the previously released trailer, artwork and details.

From the Press Release
Director Brett Kelly (My Fair Zombie) is hard at work on pre-production for his latest horror film THE BONESETTER. The Bonesetter is the tale of a town with a dark secret. A century ago a traveling healer was lynched for killing the town's children, and now, in the present, the current generation of townsfolk are faced with the supernatural return of the murderous Bonesetter.

If this sounds somewhat familiar, it's because Kelly originally made a version of The Bonesetter in 2002 and a sequel in 2005, both of which found their way to DVD. In revisiting the tale, Kelly says; "I was never able to tell the story in the scary way I really wanted to back when I first started in this biz." He continues, "I made the original Bonesetter early in my career and now the tools of production, post-production and my own experience have finally given me what I need to truly scare the pants off of an audience. My previous films have all had elements of tongue-in-cheek to them. Not this new Bonesetter; I want people frightened and disturbed."

Kelly adds, "I should mention also that the script of this movie is completely new and is not the same movie as my originals. It's a new take."

The Bonesetter is based on a folk tale from Quebec (known in French as Bonehomme Sept-Heures). While technically in pre-production, Kelly and his crew have already filmed the opening scene of the movie. This scene is set in the past when the titular villain of the film was still alive and committing his murderous crimes upon the unsuspecting populace.

Production of the film will resume in the fall once Kelly has completed filming a western for Lionsgate.

Exclusive Clip Takes You Deep Inside Willow Creek

Willow Creek Trailer Found Hidden in the WoodsOn tap right now is an exclusive clip from the upcoming sliver of sasquatchploitation from Bobcat Goldthwait, Willow Creek (review). What better way could there be to spend your hump day? Dig it!

With Willow Creek Goldthwait has apparently mixed satire with suspense, and overall his film is driven by “exploring the idea of bearing witness.” The flick is home to various characters who believe they’ve seen the elusive Sasquatch. They each give differing accounts and at times even come to blows. Goldthwait is said to use this kind of tension to get in some observations on faith and religion.

Look for it in theaters and On Demand June 6th!

Synopsis
Jim and his girlfriend, Kelly, are in Willow Creek, California, to retrace the steps of Bigfoot researchers Patterson and Gimlin, who in 1967 recorded the most famous film of the legendary monster. Kelly is a skeptic, along for the ride to spend time with her boyfriend between acting gigs. Jim, a believer, hopes to capture footage of his own, so his camera is constantly rolling.

The small town is a mecca to the Bigfoot community: Sasquatch statues guard the local businesses, murals of the missing link line the roads, and Bigfoot burgers are the town delicacy. The couple interview locals who range from skeptic to believer and from manic to completely menacing. Some of the stories they hear are of chance encounters with a gentle creature, while others are tales of mysterious eviscerations.

On the day that Jim and Kelly plan on hiking into the woods to look for proof, they are given a simple warning: “It’s not a joke. You shouldn’t go there.” Despite the ominous message and Kelly’s own reservations, they head deep into the forest to set up camp. The events that follow will make them wish they had simply spent the night at the Bigfoot Motel.

Director and two-time IFFBoston alum Bobcat Goldthwait (WORLD’S GREATEST DAD, 2009; GOD BLESS AMERICA, 2012) pumps new life into the found-footage horror genre with WILLOW CREEK. His characters’ genuine humor gives them a humanity that is essential to setting up the scares. The satire is so successful that the film’s audience will have no idea what to do with the tension and fear that comes later—other than to white-knuckle it while sitting in the dark.

New Rigor Mortis Clip Reveals a Horror Filled HallwayAnother clip from Juno Mak's Hong Kong vampire flick Rigor Mortis has come our way courtesy of Well Go USA, and it cries out for a clean-up crew wearing the most protective gear that they possibly could. Somebody made one hell of a mess!

Well Go USA has announced that they'll be releasing Rigor Mortis on VOD outlets June 6th along with a limited theatrical roll-out on the same day. The theatrical listings thus far include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, and Honolulu.

Along with the clip, check out the film's poster art, trailer, and a gallery of stills below!

In this eerie and chilling contemporary action/special effects-laden homage to the classic Chinese vampire movies of the 1980’s, writer-director-producer Juno Mak makes his feature directorial debut. Co-produced by J-Horror icon Takashi Shimizu, and reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic Mr. Vampire series, Rigor Mortis is set in a creepy and moody Hong Kong public housing tower whose occupants, we soon discover, run the gamut from the living to the dead to the undead, along with ghosts, vampires, and zombies.

Synopsis
RIGOR MORTIS stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho (Siu-ho) as a former vampire hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star, separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into Room 2442 in the housing estate, an allegedly haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants" of the building including a Taoist master-exorcist (Anthony Chan), a traumatized housewife with a tragic past (Kara Hui), as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman (Paw Hee-ching) who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment. Soon it becomes apparent to Siu-ho that the people around him and the situation are far from normal. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, Siu-ho is soon thrust into the battle of his life as vicious vampires with unsettled business begin to rise from the dead...
