International Poster for The Raven Starts the Pendulum Swinging

Fans of the classic Edgar Allan Poe tale The Pit and the Pendulum will no doubt find a lot to like in the latest international one-sheet for The Raven. Check it out!

Look for James McTeigue's The Raven starring John Cusack, Luke Evans and Brendan Gleeson on April 27th, 2012.

The Raven begins with Poe arriving in Baltimore as a serial killer is terrorizing the city, using the writer’s stories as the inspiration for his crimes. Poe is a suspect at first, but he eventually joins forces with a police inspector to solve the crimes and save the woman he loves.

Synopsis
In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

Scared of the Dark? Check Out Kitsie Duncan in the Myctophobia Teaser

We've all got our demons and fears, and the dark has always been a big one for many people... at least that's what I hear. Filmmaker Bryan Wolford taps right into that vein with his new film Myctophobia. Check out the teaser, and leave the lights on.

Myctophobia was shot over Feburary 25 and 26 and stars Kitsie Duncan, Steve Christopher, and Eric Shellito. It will be part of The Collective Volume 4, which brings together filmmakers to create ten 10-minute short films with a theme and will combine them. The project will premiere at this year's Days of the Dead in Indianapolis on July 7th.

"This collection's theme is emotions, and the emotion I was given was fear. I came up with Myctophobia after looking through a list of phobias and settled on this one due to the wording of 'the fear of darkness,'" Wolford said. "I thought the way it was worded gave the dark almost a living quality. So I set out to make a film about a woman who has to face her fear of darkness head on. I can't wait to share this great story with the world."

Synopsis
Kelly has a fear of darkness and will soon be alone in her house. Are the things she's seeing all part of her fear, or are they something much more sinister?

Julia (Biel) is a nurse living in Cold Rock who doesn’t believe in legends. That is, until one night when she wakes with an eerie feeling, only to find her son’s bed empty. Frantic, she rushes downstairs, where she stops dead in her tracks – a huge dark figure stands in the entrance holding her son, David. Driven by pure instinct, Julia rushes after them, willing to do whatever it takes to get her son back. The chase is on and with it the quest for answers. Who is the Tall Man? And what has become of the children?

The Hunger Games Edited for UK Release

Wait a second! Isn't the U.S. supposed to be the one with the crazy uptight stick up its ass when it comes to cinema content?!? The UK is ALWAYS stealing our thunder, damn it!

According to Variety, Lionsgate U.K. has opted to shave seven seconds off Gary Ross' adaptation of The Hunger Games for Brit audiences in order to achieve a 12A classification in the territory.

The film, which has received a PG-13 rating in the U.S. from the MPAA, was originally given an uncut 15 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification, but Lionsgate was keen to "achieve a particular category" to reach a wider audience in the U.K.

Kids under the age of 12 are allowed to watch 12A films at cinemas if they are taken by an adult. According to the BBFC, "a number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury." The finished film was diluted by seven seconds by "digitally removing sight of blood splashes and sight of blood on wounds and weapons."

The recent cuts follow certain changes that were made to the film prior to its submission to the BBFC. During post-production Lionsgate was advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 certificate but that its preferred 12A rating "could be achieved by making a number of cuts and visual reductions." At that point, according to the BBFC, "cuts had been made in four scenes of violence and in one scene showing details of injuries."

God forbid children are allowed to see a little bit of blood on wounds. And here's a good question ... why the hell are you taking kids under the age of 12 to the movies to see a flick about kids killing each other anyway?

The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, stars Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Liam Hemsworth, Paula Malcolmson, Willow Shields, Latarsha Rose, Lenny Kravitz, Brooke Bundy, Leven Rambin & Jack Quaid (#1), Alexander Ludwig & Isabelle Fuhrman (#2), Ian Nelson & Kalia Prescott (#3), Ethan Jamieson & Tara Macken (#4), Chris Mark & Jackie Emerson (#5), Ashton Moio & Kara Petersen (#6), Sam Ly & Leigha Hancock (#7), Samuel Tan & Mackenzie Lintz (#8), Imanol Yepez-Frias & Annie Thurman (#9), Jeremy Marinas & Dakota Hood (#10), Amandla Stenberg & Dayo Okeniyi (#11), and Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) & Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) (#12).

    Synopsis:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss (Lawrence) is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Lionsgate will release The Hunger Games on March 23, 2012.

Be sure to keep your eyes on the official The Hunger Games Facebook page and the official The Hunger Games Twitter feed for updates leading up to the film's release.
