Something Weird Happening Over on Full Moon Streaming

Something Weird Happening Over on Full Moon StreamingSomething Weird is coming to FullMoonStreaming.com in a BIG way! Read on for probably one of the coolest (and weirdest) announcements you'll see all week... and that's saying something given that it's San Diego Comic-Con Week!

From the Press Release
Full Moon is thrilled to announce the latest addition to the FullMoonStreaming.com roster: an untamed collection of classic cult, horror, and exploitation movies culled from the legendary SOMETHING WEIRD library!

The brainchild of late exploitation film curator and weird cinema enthusiast Mike Vraney (who tragically lost his battle with lung cancer earlier this year), SOMETHING WEIRD is widely recognized as the premiere imprint for awesomely lurid, cult cinema. The company has thousands of bizarre and wonderful motion pictures under their umbrella, representing every single strain of strangeness from greasy, hard and soft-core erotica to tassel-twirling burlesque; from European gladiator epics to gory horror gems; from druggie freak out potboilers and beyond. Simply put, in the annals of exploitation film culture, SOMETHING WEIRD stands alone.

Full Moon is no stranger to oddball film culture either, and the licensing of key titles from the staggering SOMETHING WEIRD library to our FullMoonStreaming.com channel is a match made in sticky celluloid heaven.

“I’ve made more than my share of crazy movies,” says iconic film producer and Full Moon Features president Charles Band, “but there’s nothing quite like the films that Mike Vraney lovingly assembled over the years with SOMETHING WEIRD. The level of care and passion that went into his reverent presentations of stuff that would otherwise be relegated to obscurity is to be celebrated. By partnering with SOMETHING WEIRD, we’re honoring Mike by bringing our FullMoonStreaming.com subscribers a window into his weird world and it’s something I’m very excited about.”

Artist Lisa Petrucci, Vraney’s wife and surviving SOMETHING WEIRD owner and operator, had this to say about the FullMoonStreaming.com partnership.

"The folks at SOMETHING WEIRD are thrilled to be entering this new venture,” Petrucci, a noted visual artist in her own right, says.

“The idea of exposing our unique brand of exploitation and horror to their film fans is an exciting prospect. Montag the Magnificent (THE WIZARD OF GORE) and Fuad Ramses (BLOOD FEAST) will feel right at home with the other gorehounds in the Full Moon family. I'd like to think that our beloved founder, Mike Vraney, would highly approve of this collaboration!"

Over the next several months, FullMoonStreaming.com will be slowly rolling out dozens of amazing SOMETHING WEIRD titles, and to kick-off the party, we’re blasting off with a selection of 10 amazing movies that will blow your mind. Every week a new title will appear.

The inaugural FullMoonStreaming/SOMETHING WEIRD titles unspooling over the next two months are:

THE ACID EATERS (1968)
Legendary sleaze merchant David F. Friedman cashes in on the druggie flicks like Roger Corman’s THE TRIP and jams in tons of female nudity, violence and general psychedelic insanity. You don’t have to be high to groove on this gem…but it helps!

BLOOD FEAST (1963)
Widely recognized as the first “gore” movie, this H.G. Lewis classic still shocks today with its endless parade of bloody atrocities tempered by its awesomely ludicrous plot and wonderfully wooden acting.

THE GRUESOME TWOSOME (1967)
Lewis’ Florida-lensed hack-em up sees a mad matriarch dispatch her brain addled son to kill and scalp as many women as he can muster, using their bloody hair for mama’s wig shop. Like SWEENEY TODD for the mentally ill!

LOVE CAMP 7 (1969)
Ultra controversial “Nazisploitation” gem that predated such celebrated nasties as THE NIGHT PORTER and ILSA SHE WOLF OF THE SS, this one is jam-packed with politically incorrect depravity that has caused it no end of censorial antagonism.

THE NAKED WITCH (1961)
Larry Buchanan’s dirty Texas horror show charts the rise of the TIT-ular sorceress, who wreaks havoc and pounds pulses. Tons of cheeky fun.

OLGA’S HOUSE OF SHAME (1964)
The crown jewel of the sadistic “Olga” films, this sleaze epic sees rough 'n tumble madame Olga (Audrey Campbell) fleeing with her girls to an abandoned ore mine and opening up a new house of degradation and carnal cruelty.

SATAN’S CHILDREN (1975)
A favorite of BASKET CASE icon Frank Henenlotter, SATAN’S CHILDREN is a shot-in-Florida cheapie that has to be seen to believed. Tawdry, homophobic, and yet homoerotic at the same time, this one is weird, mean, violent, and one of the best party movies you’ll ever see.

TWO-THOUSAND MANIACS! (1964)
The inimitable H.G. Lewis followed up the Drive-In success of BLOOD FEAST with this Southern-fried shocker, a film that dials down the explicit gore and amps up filmmaking craft resulting in a fun, violent, and even eerie horror classic.

THE GORE GORE GIRLS (1972)
H.G. Lewis migrates his unique blend of sleaze into the heart of the 1970’s with this blend of stripper-riddled bump 'n grind gorefest and skid row detective thriller.

THE WIZARD OF GORE (1970)
Lewis’ crown jewel, his masterpiece of Grand Guignol that examines the stage antics of the malevolent magician Montag, an illusionist whose violent gags really make you gag. Almost existential at times, this one has to be seen to believed. Bring your barf bags!

The fun rolls out beginning Monday, August 4th.

First Stills Are Guaranteed to Give You Dementia

First Stills Are Guaranteed to Give You DementiaAs we told you a few months back, Contracted's DP Mike Testin is making his feature debut with an old-school horror flick entitled Dementia, which boasts a handful of faces that are quite familiar to us horror folk. On tap for you today are the first images from the film so dig in!

From the Press Release
Dementia, starring Gene Jones (Sacrament) and Kristina Klebe (Proxy), leaves you thinking Misery meets Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

The film also stars some of horror’s hottest indie actors including Peter Cilella (Resolution), Richard Riehle (Texas Chainsaw 3D), Marc Senter (Red, White & Blue), and Graham Skipper (Almost Human). Molly McQueen (Carjacked), Tony Denison (“The Closer”), and newcomer Hassie Harrison co-star.

Diagnosed with dementia, war veteran George Lockhart (Jones) must deal with his estranged family. Son Jerry (Cilella) and granddaughter Shelby (Harrison) force him to hire a live-in nurse (Klebe), only to find she harbors a sinister secret.

From producers Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz: “Our goal with Dementia was to create a new, unique experience in psychological dread and terror, having more in common with films like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? or Repulsion than the latest ghost/found footage/torture movie. A horror film with real characters, drama, and tension, with scares coming from suspense and atmosphere, rather than jump scares and general gratuity. If Contracted made people afraid of being intimate with strangers, Dementia will make them afraid to trust people altogether.”

#SDCC14: Mezco Announces The Strain Collectible Coin, Living Dead Dolls, and MoreWith San Diego Comic-Con's Preview Night kicking off in just a few hours, Mezco Toyz has announced a new line that you'll want to add to your shopping list: collectibles based on FX's new series "The Strain."

"The Strain" is a high concept thriller from co-creators, executive producers, and writers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan and executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse. The series airs Sundays at 10:00 pm ET/PT only on FX.

"The Strain" tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City (home of Mezco headquarters). Goodweather and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Mezco has acquired rights to produce "The Strain" figures in an assortment of scales, Living Dead Dolls, plush items, bobbleheads, and more. They will also be offering the first-ever collectible coin for "The Strain" at San Diego Comic Con beginning today, July 23th. The limited edition collectible features the series logo on the front and the biohazard symbol, as seen in the series, on the reverse.

Each coin is a stunning testament not only to the ancient evil of "The Strain" but also to the artisans who hand craft each coin. Each hefty coin is crafted of solid metal and die struck. Each individual color is added by hand before being fired at over 500 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours to ensure maximum durability. In the final step the coins are polished to an inhuman luster and then sealed in their airtight containment units.

Only 300 of these limited edition coins exist, and they are available exclusively at the Mezco Toyz SDCC booth (#3445) and at MezcoToyz.com while supplies last.

Get Another Look at Norman Reedus in AIR

0

Get Another Look at Norman Reedus in AIRRight now Entertainment Weekly is scoring all the goods from the upcoming AIR, produced by Robert Kirkman and starring Norman Reedus; and today those goods include another photo of Reedus from the film. How about spreading it around a little, guys?

AIR (formerly Wake Cycle) co-stars Reedus and Djimon Hounsou, who portray workers tasked with maintaining one of the underground bunkers set up to preserve the human race after the Earth's atmosphere has been rendered toxic.

Sandrine Holt ("House of Cards,""The Returned,"Terminator: Genesis) also appears in the film, which is slated for a spring 2015 release. It's directed by Christian Cantamessa and produced by Kirkman, David Alpert, Chris Ferguson, and the Sinister/Insidious team of Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and exec producer Bailey Conway.

The film takes place in an underground facility, where the world's greatest scientists, etc., are placed in sleeping tanks after a nuclear fallout. The previous title's "wake cycle" refers to the six-month intervals of two hours each that allow two custodial workers to maintain the bunker.

Kirkman spoke to EW about the horror elements of the film, which was written by Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto:

"It’s definitely claustrophobic, it’s definitely isolated, but one of the cool things about it and one of the things that got me really excited about the project when I talked to Christian very early on was this idea of not making it look modern or fancy or polished. It’s very industrial and it’s very realistic and it’s almost a throwback to the science fiction movies of the ’70s and ’80s. It’s definitely a sci-fi atmosphere, but it’s much more the first Alien movie than it is J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek — which I think is a really cool look, a really cool visual, and definitely adds a lot of mood to it and definitely something we need to see more in sci-fi stuff. There is definitely a horror element to it that kind comes into play, and the environment certainly lends itself to that. If we were doing a comedy set in this place, it would still seem a little scary."

#SDCC14: UCP Announces Deal with Warren Ellis/Gale Anne Hurd; Night Mary and Five Ghosts Heading to TV

#SDCC14: UCP Announces Deal with Warren Ellis/Gale Anne Hurd; Night Mary and Five Ghosts Heading to TVAs Comic-Con 2014 kicks off in San Diego, Universal Cable Productions (UCP) announces three new deals that will bolster UCP’s genre library and are sure to generate excitement among both comic book and horror enthusiasts. Read on for the details!

From the Press Release:
UCP has signed award-winning graphic novel writer Warren Ellis (New York Times best-seller Gun Machine and Iron Man: Extremis, the Marvel Comics graphic novel and basis for Iron Man 3) to develop Ellis’ first original TV series in collaboration with Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment (“The Walking Dead,” Terminator).

Additionally, UCP and IDW Entertainment have optioned the horror comic book Night Mary with the intent to co-develop it as a live action TV series. UCP has also optioned the Kickstarter-funded breakout hit Five Ghosts, written by Frank Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham, from Black Mask Studios to develop it as an original TV series.

“We love genre at UCP, and thankfully so do audiences. We've made it a priority to seek out great properties that will attract equally great creators to adapt them,” said Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President, Development, Universal Cable Productions. “From Warren’s dynamic plots and complex characters to the dark and suspenseful world of Night Mary and the creative mash-up of five literary icons in the cult hit Five Ghosts, they are all provocative, distinctive, and have the promise to be a whole lot of fun.”

Based on the acclaimed IDW Publishing property created by Rick Remender and Kieron Dwyer, Night Mary follows a young woman trained to be a lucid dreamer. Her father owns a sleep disorder clinic where she enters the dreams of his patients. When a patient is revealed to be a serial killer, she is placed in jeopardy as nightmares and reality become frighteningly intertwined.

John Pogue (The Quiet Ones) has been tapped to write and direct the pilot. Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion (“The Walking Dead”) will serve as executive producers along with John Pogue.

Five Ghosts is the stylish, pulpy adventure by Frank Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham that tells the story of a 1930s-era treasure hunter possessed by five literary ghosts (Merlin, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Musashi, and Dracula) whose unique abilities he can draw on during his adventures. Five Ghosts was funded on Kickstarter in 2012 and previewed at San Diego Comic Con that year when Matt Pizzolo (who would later co-found Black Mask Studios) shared his San Diego Comic-Con table with then-unknown writer Frank Barbiere. Five Ghosts was picked up by Image Comics and premiered at Emerald City Comic Con, becoming one of the breakout hits of 2013.

UCP has optioned the TV series rights from Black Mask and has signed on Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsmen, Divergent) to write the pilot and serve as executive producer. Chris Bender and Jake Weiner from Benderspink (Horrible Bosses 2, The Hangover) will also serve as executive producers along with Jake Wagner as producer and Matt Pizzolo and Brett Gurewitz as co-executive producers.

UCP’s currently untitled Warren Ellis project with Valhalla Entertainment marks the renowned writer’s first foray into television. "I've been strongly drawn to television over the last few years, and working with brilliant and determined collaborators like Gale and the UCP team, I'm delighted at the opportunity to add my voice to the new, novelistic TV form that's evolved so dramatically," said Ellis.

“There are very few writers who have been able to so completely influence a medium as Warren has with comic books. I am very excited to be able to collaborate in bringing his unique vision to television for the first time,” added Hurd.

Look for more soon on all of these projects!

#SDCC14: Jeffrey Reddick and JD Matthews Team for Tamara Novel

#SDCC14: Jeffrey Reddick and JD Matthews Team for TamaraBack in 2005 (Christ, where does the time go?) Final Destination writer Jeffrey Reddick created a little flick by the name of Tamara, which starred the now everywhere Jenna Dewan. In the vein of Carrie the flick featured a vengeful super-hot chick with a big axe. What's not to like?

Now, nearly a decade later Reddick is revisiting this titular character along with author JD Matthews for a special novelization. "The book is based off the original R-rated draft of Tamara that I sold to Lionsgate," Reddick tells us.

He adds, "This is my first book, and I’m really excited about the project. Writing is my passion, and I’m thrilled to team up with someone as talented as JD. Tamara has a cult following, and I wanted to show fans the uncut version of the story. I also wanted to give people who’ve never seen the movie a chance to read the story of Tamara Riley."

If you missed the film, Tamara tells the story of an unattractive and unpopular young girl who’s constantly bullied by classmates. Her only source of relief is dabbling in some old witchcraft books left to her by her mother. After being killed in a horrible prank, Tamara comes back from the grave as a sexy vixen who knows the dark secrets of all of her tormentors. She uses these secrets to get revenge against the kids responsible for her death. And she uses her new powers of seduction to go after the one thing she’s always wanted… Billy Natolly, her married English teacher.

Look for the book in late August/early September. Reddick will be signing at this weekend's Comic-Con at the Prism booth (#2144) in Hall C on Friday, July 25, 9 am to 2 pm and then on Saturday, July 26, from 2 pm to 7 pm. He'll also be signing and doing a daily raffle for some ultra rare Final Destination collectibles.

Look for more on the book soon, and in the interim check out the official Tamara Facebook page.

#SDCC14: NECA Unveils RoboCop vs. Terminator Video Game Action FiguresAt last year's San Diego Comic-Con, NECA was perhaps the biggest and brightest star of the event, putting up for grabs an NES-inspired Jason Voorhees toy that sent horror fans in a tizzy. Since then, they've been steadily adding new figures to the video game line.

Now, during this year's SDCC they're looking to once again wow fans with their creativity.

Remember that SNES and Genesis RoboCop vs. The Terminator mash-up video game from the early 90s? Well, NECA has used that game as the inspiration for their latest offering, unveiling at Comic-Con a line that collects together the two franchise icons in all their colorful 16-bit glory.

Series 1 of the line includes two versions of The Terminator with paint deco that re-creates the video game shading. The T-800 includes a Plasma Rifle accessory, and the Endoskeleton comes with a standing Heavy Machine Gun accessory. Both figures are fully articulated and stand approximately 7″ tall.

Series 2 includes two versions of RoboCop with paint deco that re-creates the video game shading. Flamethrower RoboCop includes a massive flamethrower accessory with removable “flame spray” attachment.

Fire-Damaged RoboCop is partially covered in sculpted flames and comes with rocket launcher and laser pistol accessories. Both figures are fully articulated and stand approximately 7″ tall.

Released in late 1993 for the popular 16-bit home consoles, RoboCop vs. The Terminator answered the burning question of sci-fi fans worldwide: Which man/machine would win in a fight? The “future of law enforcement” or the actual future?

NEED. ALL OF IT.

Creepy Teaser Trailer Takes You Into the Deep Dark

Creepy Teaser Trailer Takes You Into the Deep DarkIt's so rare that a movie comes along with a totally original premise, and when one does, we take big time note here on Dread. Such is the case with Deep Dark, which looks and sounds absolutely wild. Read all about it, and check out the creepy first teaser!

From the Press Release
Vitamin M and Polluted Pictures are proud to premiere the teaser trailer for their feature film production Deep Dark, which features the voice of Denise Poirier (who voiced Æon Flux from the television show of the same name) as the voice of the “The Hole.”

Denise says of the project, which is written and directed by Michael Medaglia, "I've always loved voice work, and working on the DEEP DARK was especially challenging but also incredibly fun. I mean - how does one put together a character description for a sinister voice in the wall? With the Deep Dark team at the helm, it was an easy thing to do. They were so fun to be in the room with and purely professional. The recording studio felt like a creative and nurturing space. I really haven't had that much of a good time working on a project in years.”

Deep Dark is about a failed sculptor who finds a strange, talking hole in the wall. The hole has the power to fulfill his wildest dreams, or it just might become his worst nightmare.

Co-production company Polluted Pictures, Todd Freeman, and Lara Cuddy are currently in Montreal pitching their next project, Love Sick, at the Frontières International Co-Production Market, which is taking place in conjunction with the Fantasia International Film Festival. They’ll also be meeting with potential sales agents, festival programmers, and distributors on behalf of Deep Dark during their time in Montreal.

The film is currently completing sound design and VFX and pushing to premiere in the winter. Deep Dark is produced by Lara Cuddy, Jason and Todd Freeman, Thomas Ethan Harris, and David Woods.

“What can we do but reach for the embrace that must now contain both heaven and hell: our doom again and again and again...” —from The Vampire Lestat

Rice once again summons up the irresistible spirit-world of the oldest and most powerful forces of the night, invisible beings unleashed on an unsuspecting world able to take blood from humans, in a long-awaited return to the extraordinary world of The Vampire Chronicles and the uniquely seductive Queen of the Damned, a long-awaited novel that picks up where The Vampire Lestat left off more than a quarter of a century ago to create an extraordinary new world of spirits and forces—the characters, legend, and lore of all The Vampire Chronicles.

The novel opens with the vampire world in crisis... vampires have been proliferating out of control; burnings have commenced all over the world, huge massacres similar to those carried out by Akasha in The Queen of the Damned... Old vampires, roused from slumber in the earth, are doing the bidding of a Voice commanding that they indiscriminately burn vampire-mavericks in cities from Paris and Mumbai to Hong Kong, Kyoto, and San Francisco.

As the novel moves from present-day New York and the West Coast to ancient Egypt, 4th century Carthage, 14th century Rome, the Venice of the Renaissance, the worlds and beings of all The Vampire Chronicles—Louis de Pointe du Lac; the eternally young Armand, whose face is that of a Boticelli angel; Mekare and Maharet; Pandora and Flavius; David Talbot, vampire and ultimate fixer from the secret Talamasca; and Marius, the true Child of the Millennia, along with all the other new seductive, supernatural creatures—come together in this large, luxuriant, fiercely ambitious novel to ultimately rise up and seek out who—or what—the Voice is and to discover the secret of what it desires and why...

And, at the book’s center, the seemingly absent, curiously missing hero-wanderer, the dazzling, dangerous rebel-outlaw—the great hope of the Undead, the dazzling Prince Lestat...

Horns, a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery, and romance, follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Temple). #SDCC14: Images From Neill Blomkamp's Chappie Hit Comic-Con

0

Images From Neill Blomkamp's Chappie Hit Comic-ConNeill Blomkamp had a tough go last summer with the debacle of Elysium, and I'm hoping he can rebound with his junior effort. Here's some teaser images to whet our proverbial whistles!

This has promise. The images have a dirty, gritty feel to them, which I expect from Blomkamp, and the premise (from an earlier Sony press release) has me plenty curious:

Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.

At any rate, here's some of the images that our Dread crew managed to snap live from the SDCC '14 floor.

While there's nothing scheduled at Comic Con this year, Chappie will star Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver. Watch this space, and we'll bring you more as we have it.
