The Spierig Brothers Set to Rewrite and Direct Hammer Films' Winchester

The Spierig Brothers Set to Rewrite and Direct Hammer Films' WinchesterIt's hard to believe it was way back in April 2012 when we first got word that Hammer would be filming a new movie onsite in the Winchester Mystery House, but the project is now back on track with a new writing/directing team we're all quite familiar with.

From the Press Release:
Filmmaking brothers Michael and Peter Spierig have been tapped to rewrite and direct Hammer Films’ WINCHESTER, a supernatural thriller based on the world famous Winchester Mystery House in San Jose.

The filmmakers are rewriting a script originally penned by Tom Vaughan that tells the story of Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester firearms fortune. Hammer is eyeing an early 2015 start date.

After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, Sarah Winchester came to believe she was cursed by the rifle's victims and the lethal legacy of the "gun that won the West." At the instruction of a spiritualist medium, she moved to San Jose in 1884 and began round-the-clock construction that would last thirty-eight years and result in a 24,000 square foot, 160-room Gothic mansion.

“We can’t wait to see what the Spierig brothers unearth as they delve in to the mysteries of Sarah Winchester and her infamous haunted house,” said Tobin Armbrust of Hammer Films. “As the first feature film ever shot inside the Winchester Mystery House, we are excited to have these fantastic filmmakers bring their unique vision to the table.”

The Spierig brothers recently wrapped the Ethan Hawke starrer Predestination from Sony. Previously, they collaborated with Hawke on their 2009 Lionsgate release Daybreakers, which also starred Willem Dafoe. They came to prominence in 2003 with their indie zombie film Undead.

Brett Matthew Tomberlin and Antonia Lianos of Imagination Design Works are producing WINCHESTER alongside Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment. Tobin Armbrust and Simon Oakes are producing for Hammer.

More About The Winchester Mystery House:
The Winchester Mystery House has a startling history and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. Popular belief holds that Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune, was convinced she was haunted by the spirits of those killed by her family’s guns. Following a medium’s advice, Sarah built a massive house in Northern California to appease the spirits. For the next 38 years she never stopped building, believing that if she continued, she would live forever, and if she stopped, she would die. Known as the “house built for the spirits,” there have been many inexplicable ghost sightings there, and to this day visitors share their terrifying stories of having been in the presence of these departed souls who continue to roam the grounds of the intricate and enigmatic house.

#SDCC14: Exclusive WWE Superstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl and Director Zach Lipovsky talk Leprechaun Origins

0

#SDCC14: Exclusive WWE Superstar Dylan During the SDCC we had a chance to get the skinny on WWE's Leprechaun: Origins, starring WWE Supertstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl. Read on for the scoop from Dylan and director Zach Lipovsky.

"For me the biggest and coolest challenge was that Leprechauns aren't something that people are generally frightened by," Lipovsky (pictured) tells us of the character and his idea for how the film should play out. "We asked ourselves can we do something that would be legitimately scary for people and if so what would that look like? Anything was on the table so that was really fun. It was fun to come on to the project and make it something that honors the mythology and is iconic and be totally fresh with out approach. We looked into making the origin story of a creature that maybe thousands of years ago the Keltics met in a cave or something that was really scary. They would tell their stories and those stories are told to the present day. Back then there was actually something that was terrifying at the root of the lore. Something horrific and terrifying."

"Our Leprechaun is completely different than what you're used to seeing in movies and elsewhere," Lipovsky continues. "Our approach was to make something that could really be out there. Something more organic and less fairy tale. Our creature is something that clearly has biological roots. That being said it does have all the traits you'd expect from a Leprechaun... the pointy ears, the lust for gold... bout ours also has the skin of... let's say a naked mole rat. It has dead things hanging off of it... we took a very dark and disturbing approach when it came to bringing it to life. Our creature can communicate, but not with traditional dialogue. Dylan had to communicate non-verbally under a ton of make-up, but thankfully when his WWE character of Hornswoggle came to life he didn't speak at first and had to do everything with his eyes and body language. That was really good prep for him to play a creature like this. Having someone who was a trained athlete who has a lot of endurance made all of the difference in getting this done and really nailing it. I think people are really going to surprised at how scary this flick is."

#SDCC14: Exclusive WWE Superstar Dylan Postl (pictured) agrees, "This is so different and so original. It's not what fans have been conditioned to expect from the Leprechaun movies. There's no hokey gaga. No limericks or poetry. This is a horror movie, man. Most fans are going to go into this thinking that they're going to be seeing a guy in a green suit... that's NOT happening. The make up process was 2 1/2 hours in, 1 hour to get out of it, then we do that over and over again. By day 3 I was ANGRY," Dylan says with a laugh. "It was summer in Van Couver... 100 degree heat and I'm wearing this suit... it was miserable. No matter how many air conditioning or fan units there were it didn't matter. You're just baking. After seeing the complete film though, I would have sat in the chair for 5 hours if need be. The effect we got with this character is just amazing. Seeing the final product made it all worth it. "

"Performing outside of a WWE ring was a very different experience for me," says Postle of acting on set in comparison to performing in front of a live audience. "In the ring if you hit someone in the face you get an immediate reaction. You don't have that when you shoot a movie so you don't know whether or not it's good or bad until it's cut. Not playing off of an audience is very challenging."

"I'm with WWE Superstars so much... more than my own family and we get on each others nerves. I want to punch them in the face," Dylan jokes about the differences between working with traditional actors and not other wrestlers. "The four co-stars that I have... guys and girls, they're all so pretty... I don't want to punch them in the face. I'll punch Kane in the face though! No problem! Those four... I call them kids... they're so nice and so awesome to work with. We had a lot of fun on our days off"

Wrapping things up Postl tells us that the movie is a bit open ended. "Yep, there might be more coming! In terms of coming back for another I would only want to work with Zach on it. He's incredible... so giving and so wanting of my input. Working with him was my favorite part of portraying Leprechaun. Working on his movements and mannerisms. I think fans are really gonna love this. It's like a total rollercoaster. You guys are gonna be quite surprised.

Leprechaun: Origins also stars Stephanie Bennett, Teach Grant (The Tall Man, Devour, Repeaters, “Cult”), Bruce Blain (“Supernatural”), Adam Boys, and Brendan Fletcher ("The Killing,"Freddy vs. Jason, 13 Eerie).

The original Leprechaun, which featured comedic elements, followed an evil leprechaun searching for his pot of gold while avoiding four-leaf clovers. “The tone [of Origins] is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre; but at the same time this is really being played for scares,” said WWE president Michael Luisi in an earlier interview.

Producers are keeping details of Harris Wilkinson's script under wraps to keep the franchise's new direction a secret.

#SDCC14: Exclusive Update: Painkiller Jane

0

#SDCC14: Exclusive Update: Painkiller JaneWhen it comes to adaptations of popular comic book properties, things can go awry in a hurry. Hell, even small things can end up causing a ruckus because purists (many of whom are still furious over the fact the Constantine doesn't smoke a lot in the upcoming TV show) do not like their heroes screwed with!

Earlier today the news broke that The Soska Sisters, the twin horror movie directors behind cult slasher American Mary and the upcoming See No Evil 2, have signed on to helm the adaptation of Painkiller Jane, a comic created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada.

Don't worry, kids. These ladies love this stuff as much as you do and even went on record with a comment about their upcoming adaptation. They couldn't say much, but what they did say was loud and clear!

"We promise that this is what’s going to be the adaptation of Painkiller Jane that people have been waiting to see. Fans of the comics are going to be really happy."

The story centers on the titular heroine, a cop, who, along with with her best friend and partner, goes undercover into an interconnected drug ring. When her identity is exposed, Jane is tortured, which leaves her with preternatural regenerating abilities and a high tolerance for pain.

More on this one as it comes.

#SDCC14 Exclusive: WWE Superstar Glenn "Kane" Jacobs Talks See No Evil 2

0
0

#SDCC14: Exclusive - WWE Superstar Glenn When he walked into the room, he nearly blotted out the sun that was peering through the hotel window while shining brightly on the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. There I was, ready to go one-on-one with the demon Kane, and I managed to come out without a scratch.

Before I begin, at this time I'd like to thank Kane for not chokeslamming me when I tried putting him in a sleeper. Of course I kid, but he was eyeballing some chairs and tables ominously during our interview about the resurrection of Jacob Goodnight for the Lionsgate / WWE Studios film See No Evil 2.

"I was sort of shocked to get the call really because the first movie had been a commercial success with WWE Studios’ debut film, and I thought, 'Okay, we’re going to do a sequel pretty quickly,' and it didn’t happen for, like, several years," Glenn Jacobs, better known as Kane, tells us. "So, my phone rang one day and I was like, ‘Really? Okay. Isn’t it six years late?’ I was really surprised to get the call after having all that time pass. I didn’t think we’d do another one."

When last we saw Goodnight, a dog was unceremoniously peeing into his shattered eye cavity after a night of violent killing. I immediately wondered if his first order of business would be to track down that piss-happy pooch.

"I’m an animal lover; I wouldn’t let that happen! But okay, the plot point of how are you going to bring him back? He was killed pretty definitively at the end of the first movie. But you’re dealing with fantasy horror so I guess he wasn’t killed as badly as we thought he was. I think he’s more angry this time around and I think what you saw in the first movie... well, there’s a lot more of that. There is a lot of action in this movie, there’s more fight sequences. The victims actually fight back, which is a little different, especially [Kaj-Erik's] character who I had a couple of pretty long and complex fight sequences with. So, yeah, there’s even more of that in this one. Also the [Soska] twins know how to take advantage of people’s strengths, and of course, my strength is my size. I am a very big guy and I think that they, when they were putting things together, I think they made a concerted effort to accentuate that as much as possible."

Jacobs' co-star in the film, Danielle Harris, is just about two feet shorter than he is. Given this fact I inquired as to their on-screen dynamic. "It’s funny because Danielle was saying how people are surprised. She’s a very diminutive girl despite the fact that she generally plays a really tough girl. Danielle’s role is a little different in this movie. She’s not the one out there trying to kick butt; she’s more the voice of reason trying to hold everything together. Frankly, everyone in the movie was great to work with; the entire cast was really great."

Kane also has a soft spot for his directors, Jen and Sylvia Soska. "They were awesome. They bring so much excitement and so much enthusiasm to the set. We had fifteen shooting days, which is pressure packed. No matter how hard you try, there’s going to be points you feel you’ve fallen behind schedule. Everybody was freaking out except the twins. I was just so impressed by them. Their knowledge and their skill is amazing; they helped me a lot as far as my role. I can’t speak highly enough of their talent."

In terms of being able to act on screen, Kane points to his WWE roots as his training. "To a certain extent I think acting is an extension of what we do at WWE. At the company, we do a lot of theatrics, especially my character is a lot of acting. In the WWE, you have two different kinds of performers: You have the guy whose character is just an extension of who he is in real life, and then you have the ones that are completely different who are acting. I’m nothing like Kane. I’m one of the guys who has a character. So, acting really is an extension of what I do on WWE but it’s a lot different when you’re on a soundstage. Everything is very antiseptic and very sterile. I’ve worked so many years with the WWE. The approach is you have one take on live TV, so you get it right. It’s funny because when I do do movies, they go to rehearsals and after a couple of rehearsals they go, ‘You don’t actually do this until the light comes on, do you?’ I have to go all out on that one take so rehearsals are actually sort of hard for me because I’m like, ‘This is boring; let’s just cut to the chase!’ That’s a little different than what directors and other members of the crew are used to."

Would Jacobs be willing to step back into Jacob's blood-drenched shoes? "I think so. If I had another opportunity to work with the twins again. Talking about acting, I would like to do some other things as well. I would branch out. WWE has been awesome for me. Sometimes you hear bad things about Vince McMahon, and for me, you never hear the other side of the story. Certainly, I wouldn’t be where I am, my family wouldn’t be in the position they’re in, if it hadn’t been for him. But I’ve been doing this incarnation of Kane for a long time and, as a performer, you do want to stretch and you do want to do different things. The most fun I’ve had at WWE was doing Team Hell No with Daniel Bryan because I went from being the most stark guy on the show to being the comic relief. As a performer, that’s really rewarding that you can do both. So, I would like to do some different things. I do like the horror genre, I’m a fan myself. My favorite movie of all time is Silence of the Lambs. I love the 'Hannibal' series because here you have a guy who’s very smart. The monstrous part of him is his intelligence and not his physical size. That’s what scares me. Moving forward, I would like to do some other things."

Jacobs continues. "I think people are going to be very surprised in this movie as far as what Jacob does with some of the scenes. You actually have your psychopathic killer acting, which is something you don’t see that often. I wore a mask for years and the disadvantage of that is, as human beings, we portray most emotions with our face and I had to do it with body language. Really, the essence of the WWE is we’re trying to elicit an emotional reaction from the crowd just like you are in a movie. It’s the same deal. I understood how you get those emotions out of people. If you can’t have your number one asset, and you can do it with your number two asset, once you get your number one asset, you’re going to be pretty good at it."

In closing I asked Kane what his take on Goodnight is being that he's played a villain, and at times a hero, for so long. "Jacob was just a normal little boy like all of us. If there is any sort of social commentary, which I hesitate to say that there is, but if there is, it’s the fact that… well... Danielle Harris put it best. She just got married and they’re working on a family and she’s like, ‘I have to be really careful how I raise my kids and raise them correctly, or THIS comes out!’ and she points straight at me! *laughs* Jacob wasn’t born the way that he is; he was made to be that way."

WWE Superstar Kane - See No Evil 2

Greyston Holt ("Bitten,"Lost Boys: The Tribe), Chelan Simmons (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil), Kaj-Erik Eriksen (Ice Twisters), and Lee Majdoub (Soldiers of the Apocalypse) star alongside Danielle Harris (the Halloween franchise), Katharine Isabelle (American Mary, Ginger Snaps, Freddy vs. Jason), and Michael Eklund (The Call, The Marine 3: Homefront, The Day) in the Soska Sisters-helmed See No Evil 2 starring WWE Superstar KANE®.

Re-imagined Shadowgate Launching in August; New Gameplay Trailer with Side-by-Side ComparisonNearly 30 years after the original frightened and amazed the world, developer Zojoi, in cooperation with Reverb Triple XP, has announced that a re-imagined Shadowgate will launch on Steam and other digital outlets for PC and Mac on August 21st.

Shadowgate will arrive on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android devices) in fall 2014.

Zojoi has released a new side-by-side trailer that compares the 1989 NES Shadowgate version with this year’s re-imagined game.

About Shadowgate:
In Shadowgate intrepid gamers step inside the dark halls of Castle Shadowgate as "The Seed of Prophecy," the only one who could hope to defeat the traitorous Warlock Lord that dwells within. Designed with compelling cut-scenes that greatly expand the original Shadowgate universe, gamers navigate from room to room via the classic first-person perspective, using their wits to survive dangerous traps, devious puzzles, and ruthless enemies. If successful, they can assemble the Staff of Ages, a powerful relic capable of keeping this ancient enemy from destroying the living castle and the world of Tyragon itself.

Shadowgate not only features a stunning level of detailed, hand-painted rooms but also tons of new, mind-bending puzzles from the makers of the original game. While there are more objects and new characters to interact with, there are also plenty of throwbacks to the original version so veterans and newcomers alike will relish their journey through Castle Shadowgate… if they survive.

Shadowgate features include:
• All-new and updated puzzles seamlessly expand on the original game
• Multiple difficulty levels enable players to play on Master, the renowned difficulty of the original, or scale back the brutality with Apprentice (Easy) or Journeyman (Medium)

• Tons of hand-painted illustrated rooms feature both new and familiar locations

• Updated storytelling features dramatic cut-scenes, plus all the same great storytelling you'd expect from a Shadowgate adventure
• A digitally-orchestrated, dynamic soundtrack and sound effects change based on gameplay
• 50 in-game and Steam-based achievements to find and unlock

Mission:
The player, as the "last of a great line of hero-kings," is charged with the task of saving the world by defeating the Warlock Lord, who is attempting to summon up the demon Behemoth out of an ancient pit.

#SDCC 2014: First Images of NECA's Ellen Ripley Action Figures

NECA's Ellen Ripley Action FiguresBeing that she's one of the most badass characters in film history, it only makes sense that the Alien universe's Ellen Ripley has been honored with a handful of action figures over the years. But there's always been a catch involved, which has resulted in them being a bit less than screen-accurate.

You see, Sigourney Weaver had never given permission for her likeness to be used, and so most of the Ripley toys out there don't quite look like Ripley. But that all changes thanks to NECA, who have FINALLY acquired the license, and have not one but two incredible Ripley figures in the works.

At Comic-Con, the company is showing off both figures for the very first time, and we've got the images for you today, courtesy of Figures.com!

Both toys will be included in the fourth series of NECA's ever-expanding Alien line, the first one depicting Ripley as she was in the first film, and the second featuring her in a space suit. Both also come with figures of the loveable cat Jonesy, for added awesomeness.

Who wants? Because I want!

Is BioWare's New IP The Stuff Of Nightmares?

0

New BioWare IP A Horror Game?In terms of game developers, BioWare is my personal favorite. I've felt that way since the release of Baldur's Gate, and my obsession was solidified with the Mass Effect trilogy. Now they're teasing something ready-fit for our wheelhouses. Can it be true? Will BioWare's next IP tackle the horror genre?

It seems that way, if this 40-second teaser trailer is to be believed. BioWare released this atmospheric video yesterday but remain tight-lipped about the content, promising to show more at next month's Gamescom convention in Germany.

This trailer coincides with the launch of a tie-in website, called Youve-Been-Chosen.com. There isn't much on there right now, just the aforementioned video and the ability to sign up for email notifications. I did, but it just left me with more questions. It sends a cryptic email stating, "The time is near…they are watching. Your power is rising. You’ve been chosen.”

I love this. BioWare excels at creating wonderful new worlds and unforgettable characters. Their current properties do sci-fi (Mass Effect) and fantasy (Dragon Age) better than just about everyone. That they may be entering the world of horror next is just too cool for words. The only thing that can make me temporarily forget my anticipation of the next Mass Effect game, after all, is another BioWare property.

This one seems to hint at a nightmare world where we (the player) have been imbued with powers that enable us to combat the things that go bump in the night. I think BioWare does Dream Warriors and suddenly I'm giddy.

Watch this space, folks. I'll be following this one intently.

Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare Expands to Chicago

0

Powerman 5000 Haunting Rob Zombie's Great American NightmareWe learned last month that Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare is kicking off its second season this coming September, and today comes the exciting word that the event is taking over not just one city, as originally announced, but two. Read on for all the details about the expansion!

From the Press Release

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare has announced a second engagement for 2014. The ultimate Halloween horror event will invade the Chicago metropolitan area select nights from September 26-November 1 at Odeum Expo in Villa Park, IL.

Opening night will also feature a special one-night-only concert with groundbreaking musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie.

"I am thrilled to be able to expand the Great American Nightmare to TWO new cities this year,” said Zombie. My only goal is to make it twice as sick as last year."

The Great American Nightmare’s second city will feature three attractions based on Zombie’s own horror films: The Lords Of Salem In Total Black Out, The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto 3D, and Haunt Of 1,000 Corpses. These attractions were first seen at the 2013 GreatAmerican Nightmare debut in Pomona, California and have been improved and enhanced based on visitor feedback.

The fully immersive haunted house experience at Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare will include the Bloody Boulevard with freak shows, musical entertainment, roaming characters, themed food and beverages, games and vendors each night.

”After the tremendous success last year we all felt we wanted to bring Great American Nightmare to as many people as possible,” says Great American Nightmare producer Steve Kopelman. “Chicago is a haunted house hotbed with the Odeum Expo center being the go-to haunted house venue for the past two decades. We really feel the Midwest will welcome this event with open arms and this will be the ultimate Chicagoland Halloween event.”

As previously announced, Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare will also make its debut at WestWorld Of Scottsdale in Arizona for select nights from September 19-November 1. This engagement will feature the following three attractions--two that have never been seen before--based on Rob Zombie’s horror films: The Lords Of Salem In Total Black Out, Captain Spaulding’s Clown School In 3D, and The Devil’s Rejects.

At Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare, patrons will sequentially enter three different attractions, each completely different in look, theme and effects:

The Lords Of Salem In Total Black Out: This harrowing attraction--based on Zombie’s 2012 The Lords Of Salem independent horror film--is designed to twist the mind. It will accentuate some senses while limiting others. Fear of the dark, claustrophobia, and fear of the unknown will be preyed on as the visitor attempts to traverse this sixty-degree maze.

The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto 3D: Utilizing Chromadepth glasses, this innovative attraction will take the patron right into the middle of the irreverent world of Rob Zombie’s El Superbeasto 2009 animated exploitation musical horror comedy film based on the comic book series of the same name. The attraction’s unique surprise entrance, brilliant colors, sudden chills and startling thrills, and salacious humor will make patrons scream with fright and laughter.

Haunt Of 1,000 Corpses: This terrifying attraction pays homage to the exploitation horror film House Of 1,000 Corpses, directed by Rob Zombie. The extreme, traditional haunted house will take visitors on a walking journey through a recreation of the film’s “Museum of Monsters & Madmen” along with an expanded “Murder Ride,” confronting notorious serial killers along the way. This high impact, highly detailed attraction will use state of the art animatronics, video effects, costuming, sound, scents and lights.

Tickets for Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare go on sale Wednesday, July 30 at 10:00 AM CT at www.GreatAmericanNightmare.com, with prices starting at only $25 for September 27-November 1. Each ticket includes access to all haunted house attractions and the Bloody Boulevard activities.

Tickets for opening night (September 26) include the Rob Zombie concert and will be available starting at only $45. A limited number of VIP packages will also be available for purchase at www.GreatAmericanNightmare.com. All VIP packages include a commemorative t-shirt and quicker access to the haunted attractions than general admission. Some packages also include a designated viewing area for the concert.

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare will celebrate the Halloween season on the following dates between September 26 and November 1:

September: 26, 27

October: 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31

November: 1

Hours for Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare will be 7:00 PM until midnight (Fridays and Saturdays) and 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM (Thursdays and Sundays).

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare is a creative collaboration between master of the macabre Rob Zombie and preeminent haunted house producer Steve Kopelman. The event is produced by Rob Zombie, Steve Kopelman and Andy Gould.

Odeum Expo is located at 1033 North Villa Avenue in Villa Park, IL, just outside Chicago. It’s easily accessible from downtown Chicago by major highways, and from the Tri-State area by tollways.

Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare is presented by 101WKQX.

#SDCC14: Screen Gems and Sam Raimi To Turn The Last Of Us Into A Movie

#SDCC14: Screen Gems and Sam Raimi To Turn The Last Of Us Into A Movie Some of the coolest news coming out of this year's Comic-Con is word that Sony Screen Gems and Sam Raimi are preparing a feature film adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. Read on to hear all about this bad boy!

Sam Raimi will produce The Last of Us for Screen Gems. It will, of course, be an adaptation of 2013's Naughty Dog game. Creative director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, will write the film for Raimi, which is expected to remain very true to its source material.

Druckmann is in charge of choosing the director, and it won't be Raimi. On the topic of the script, the movie will have a "laser focus" on the Joel and Ellie relationship, and some of the setpieces from the game could potentially find their way into the film. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark on HBO's "Game of Thrones") was mentioned as a possibility for live action Ellie, and the crowd responded quite favorably to the news.

The Last of Us movie isn't likely to feature actors doing an imitation of the performances we saw in the game, as Druckmann would prefer to use actors who will create their own interpretation of the characters.

There hasn't been anything concrete announced with respect to a release date, so I'm sure this will be the first of many announcements you hear on the subject of this one.

#SDCC14: Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell Take Evil Dead to Television

#SDCC14: Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell Take Evil Dead to TelevisionConsidering that NBC's "Hannibal" is currently home to some of the most graphic violence imaginable, it's not surprising to see other splatter-y franchises making a dash for the small screen. The latest? Why, none other than "Evil Dead."

There's really nothing to report at this point beyond the headline. While on a panel for Screen Gems' forthcoming The Last of Us movie, The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi let it slip that he is working on an iteration of Evil Dead for the small screen, and that Bruce Campbell would be involved.

Army of Darkness co-writer, Ivan Raimi will be co-writing this series with Sam. And that's literally all there is to know at this point.

Are we excited about this? It's hard to imagine seeing Ash again after all this time, and without the kinetic camerawork that graces Raimi's movies. But we have to believe this would open up the mythos quite a bit, and that could actually be pretty interesting. There's no way I'm ready to cry foul at all the potential.

When will we hear more? Hard to say, but watch this space and you'll know it when we do.
