#SDCC14: Everything You Need to Know About The Walking Dead Panel We're reporting live on the floor from AMC's "The Walking Dead" panel and we've got some goodies to pass along, from the direction of the upcoming season to the impending Blu-ray release of season 4.

Chris Hardwick introduced showrunner Scott Gimple, along with Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd, Greg Nicotero, Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yuen, Michael Cudlitz, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman, and Emily Kinney to a roomful of rabid fans.

When asked if our heroes would ever leave the train car, the panel showed a mock sitcom-style clip of Rick, Glen, and Maggie sitting inside the train car in old age makeup, playing card games and eating the leftovers of Carl. The scene ended in with Rick saying, "I can't keep eating my kid," followed by a bald-headed Daryl pulling a Colonel Kurtz and screaming, "The horror! The horror!"

Robert Kirkman confirmed that this season will offer "many moments from the comic that fans have been waiting for."

The season 4 Blu-ray will feature the unaltered line of Rick dropping the f-bomb during his final season-ending line.

The season 5 promo shows Rick and his gang being held over a trough and pleading for their lives. The group is forced to join the Terminus people on a quest to reach Washington DC. Much distrust and fighting between Rick and the leader of Terminus. Footage showed lots of clips of Rick kicking ass, a fight with zombies in a flooded basement, a massive explosion with hundreds of zombies flying. Very action oriented. The footage ends with clips from a subplot involving a still-alive Beth who is being held captive by an insane policewoman.

#SDCC14: Robert Kirkman's Outcast Gets a Pilot

#SDCC14: Robert Kirkman's Outcast Gets a Pilot Robert Kirkman isn't resting on the overwhelming success of "The Walking Dead." Instead he's created a new comic, Outcast, which is en route to becoming a television pilot.

Cinemax will produce "Outcast." The show and book were simultaneously developed. The series by FOX International Channels (FIC) and the comic by Churchman for his Skybound label. The first issue, released last month, was well-received and sold tremendously well. Fans looking to grab issue two can do so at Comic-Con this Saturday.

"Outcast" is centered around a young man who has been possessed by a demon since he was a child. On a quest for answers he discovers there's so much more than just the evil living inside of him.

Kirkman will executive produce alongside David Alpert of Circle of Confusion; Sue Naegle; Chris Black; and Sharon Tal Yguado of FIC.

Outcast is the latest example of FOX International Channel’s (FIC) mission to develop breakthrough character-driven dramas in the U.S. that can translate into global tentpole franchises. FIC’s long-standing partnership with Kirkman began on the record-breaking, global hit series, The Walking Dead, on which FIC is the international partner and global broadcaster in 125 countries.

I like this sound of this. While I admittedly tired of Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" this sounds like something I'd be interested in checking out. Anything's better than zombies these days.

#SDCC14: What We Know So Far About Bates Motel Season 3

Bates Motel at #SDCC14: Take a Tour of Norman's Taxidermy Workshop; Season 3 Teaser ArtWe just left the SDCC press room for "Bates Motel," and while showrunners Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin are saving the big announcements for today's panel, we did glean a few clues of what's ahead in Season 3.

First we spoke with Norma Bates herself, Vera Farmiga. When asked how she reconciles Norma's behavior in the series, Vera said she sees herself as Norma's "court appointed lawyer in her defense" and "approaches her with outright compassion."

She focuses on what she appreciates about the character; she's "terribly flawed but trying to be the best mother she can be." She had a very grim upbringing with no role model, and her relationship with Norman is a "lifejacket." Theirs is a noble love, and Norma is a "lioness with a lame cub."

She couldn't tell us much about the upcoming third season as she hasn't seen a script yet (shooting begins in October), but now that Norma "knows" about Norman, her objective is to nurse him back to health. She believes no one can help him like she can.

Exec producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin were up next, and while they said all the big surprises are being held until this afternoon's panel, they promised they have a "good gameplan" with the theme of Season 3 being the good and evil that live in everybody and which side wins out.

Cuse said that with Norman's ending already known, their goal is to "subvert expectations" without a literal reenactment. His story is a tragedy, but there is some fun involved in seeing which version of him will emerge.

Ehrin added that while there are milestones to be reached, they are not beholden to them and are building toward making "Bates Motel" the best story possible.

Cuse did tell us that they felt the drug story needed to end so they could move on to something else. There will be "new forms of menace and new romances." Ehrin teased that she thinks of White Pine Bay as a "real place" and the effects of the drug war blowing up will have an impact on the town's economy and politics. Cuse said that in Season 3 the town will be "living in the aftermath," which will change its character. We'll have a "new set of circumstances and ramifications." In a place where evil has lived for so long, there is now a vacuum.

As for Norma's journey this season, Ehrin said the primary question is "Who can you trust?" There will be an even darker environment with shooting taking place during the winter. We asked about the relationship between Norma and Dylan, and certainly their "relationship cannot get fixed in one conversation; there will be a lot of push and pull and confusion." We will come to know a bit more about Dylan's past. He's on the axis of good and evil; is he going to step into the void and accept the role Romero offered him at the end of Season 2, and what will be the consequences of his choice? Cuse said he will make the decision at the beginning of the season.

We ended our chats with Nestor Carbonell and Olivia Cooke (unfortunately Freddie Highmore had another panel to attend so we missed out on speaking with him). Carbonell described Sheriff Romero as "manipulative" and commented that he often "rewrites history" so that he comes out on top. While we enjoy how mysterious Romero can be, we were pleased to learn that in Season 3 some of back story will be revealed.

Cooke discussed Emma's illness a bit and explained that she wanted to make her "more than her disease" and keep her full of life. As for what's in store for the character, she thought she was part of the Bates family and was unhappy to be shut out of their secrets, and now that she's aware that Norman is a product of incest, she still wants to be part of it so they can "wallow in misery together."

Carbonell explained that with the drug business shakeup, the structure of his work is broken. His offer to Dylan to take over will play a bit part in what's ahead for him. Will they team up or go against each other? Stay tuned!

The affection the two co-stars share for each other was obvious. Carbonell wrapped things up by saying he's fortunate to work with such an "unusually great group of people" who are all extremely talented and incredibly generous. He called "Bates Motel" a dream job.

Update: As a result of the "Bates Motel" panel, we have also learned that season 3 will see the return of Nicola Peltz as Bradley. As you may recall, the last time we saw her, she was fleeing White Pine Bay with blood on her hands.

Much more interesting is that Kenny Johnson ("The Shield", "Dexter") will return as Norma's brother, Caleb. Best of all? Johnson will be upgraded to series regular!

Season 3 of "Bates Motel," from Universal Television, is slated to air in early 2015.

Could Paranormal Activity 5 Haunt Us Sooner After All?

Could Paranormal Activity 5 Haunt Us Sooner After All?First October 2014, then January 2015, and then sometime in 2016. Paranormal Activity 5's release has been shuffled around quite a bit, and now we're hearing it could be back in play for late this year or, more likely, 2015.

Bloody-Disgusting got the scoop from a source close to the PA5 production that the powers that be are suddenly rushing headlong to get the film out as soon as possible. While nothing's been confirmed, Bloody suggests that Paramount might even be hoping to have the sixth film in the series out in theaters by this October.

That doesn't seem likely, but perhaps Paramount will once more give the movie a winter 2015 release. Bloody goes on to report that director Greg Plotkin is a man on a mission. That mission? To get Paranormal Activity 5 in the proverbial can as soon as possible. The movie was scripted by Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, both newcomers to the franchise.

Nobody knows what this means for the future of the franchise. Is Paramount losing faith in Paranormal Activity's box office abilities? Are they going to wrap it up and call it a day? Or was the delay motivated by story concerns? The 2016 timeframe seemed, initially, to suggest a lack of confidence in the current direction of the series, and that some time was required to "fix" it.

To hear that they may be fast-tracking the sequel with the outside possibility of a 2014 release is both odd and hilarious in this context.

Keep 'em here, folks. We'll let you know. In the meantime, did anyone ever end up watching Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night?

#SDCC14: Alexandre Aja, Daniel Radcliffe, and Joe Hill Lock Horns; See the New Trailer!

#SDCC14: Alexandre Aja, Daniel Radcliffe, and Joe Hill Lock HornsAlexandre Aja's Horns (review) is a movie that should very much be on your radar, and if it isn't, then maybe this chat with Aja, source material author Joe Hill, and star Daniel Radcliffe plus a new trailer will do the trick for you.

If you're not familiar with Hill's tale, suffice it to say that it's pretty friggin' out there. So the question beckoned as to whether or not Radcliffe had any reservations about the role.

"I definitely didn’t have any reservations in terms of the darkness of the movie. Even Harry Potter had quite a lot of darkness in it and doing things like Equus and The Cripple of Inishmaan. I really like getting involved in that kind of stuff. This was a challenging part and there’s a lot to mine in terms of what the character has gone through prior to the beginning of the film and then as he’s going through it. I always sort of make a playlist for the characters that I play. What was on this one? There was a song that actually ended up in the movie by a band called The Shivers called 'Lonely Road' and then there was a lot of Metallica and Megadeth. There was a lot and I think it maybe stretched onto two discs. Yeah, I still make discs." *laughs*

Related News: #SDCC 2014: New Horns Poster Hurts Like Hell

Radcliffe continues, "It’s obviously an amazing book and the adaptation of the book into a screenplay is fantastic. I like things that take an idea that everyone can relate to in some way. Not necessarily being accused of murdering your girlfriend, but the idea of being an outsider and finding a really original, crazy way to deal with that topic. People want to talk about this film as being horror or fantasy and these types of things but I’ve always seen it as magical realism in the sense that most of the world is very, very grounded in reality except for this one fantastical thing that is happening in the middle of that."

Author Hill and director Aja worked in tandem to create the balance between the story and tone of the film.

"I think the story is less about a murder mystery, less of a whodunnit and more of a sort of thought problem," explains Hill. "What would it be like to know the worst in the people you love? To hear, to be faced with their worst: their worst secrets, their ugliest secrets, their ugliest temptations. What would that do to you? Could you hold on to your decency? Could you still love them? The story, it suffers a lot from the things he learns about the people around him, he endures a lot of punishment. But I do think that decency is resilient and that one of the things, even though the film and the story take us to some pretty dark places, there’s a suggestion there that you can love people even when you know their worst and maybe not in spite of but because of their flaws. So I think that’s sort of hopeful."

Aja chimes in, "You’re talking about the demonic new personality, but in fact, he’s not changing himself. He’s physically transforming into the devil but he stays a normal character, he stays himself through the whole movie. It’s the world around him that turns into hell, not himself, and that’s really about that trip through the fire that I think was really interesting for the character."

"For me, there is always something more interesting about a part that’s multi-faceted, that has a dark side and is more true to life, even in this very heightened world that we’re in, in the film," Radcliffe agrees pertaining to the complexity of the character. "He’s a true anti-hero in that he’s absolutely good and you should root for him and you should be with him all the way, but that’s not to say that he doesn’t do some questionable things, but even he questions them."

Radcliffe also had high praise for his director. "At the end of the film after we finished the last shot, myself and some of the script supervisors and some of the camera guys all stood around for an hour talking about what a pleasure it had been to work for him. Also because you knew that he was going to create one of those awesome moments and it was a pleasure to be a part of his vision every day."

Radcliffe then spoke a bit about working in film adaptations and how hard it is to please fans of the books at times. "Potter and Lord of the Rings came out at the same time initially and a few other famous book-to-movie transitions have, I think, adjusted people to the idea that as wonderful as all books are and as much as we’d like to put everything in, things do have to slide around and shift slightly. I think the tone [of Horns] remained absolutely true to the tone of the book."

Aja echoes his sentiments in terms of being faithful to the source material. "The most exciting part of making this movie was to respect the emotion I had when reading the book, to be sure that we weren’t ignoring that full spectrum of genre and keep them and make them exist together. That was my goal and the challenge of making this movie."

Related News:#SDCC14: New Images From Horns

"There is also a lot of symbolism that got built into the movie, and maybe I shouldn’t be telling people this but they still have to do a bit of work and go and look it up, but all the driver’s license plates are bible verses which relate very specifically to all of our characters," says Radcliffe of some of the film's hidden goodies.

Radcliffe is at a point in his career that he can pretty much do whatever he wants to; yet, he continues making genre films. "It’s not an intentional thing that I’m picking all this really dark work, but I guess I enjoy it. It’s interesting because people do talk about Horns and Woman in Black and Frankenstein as being things that are sort of all as one genre. Woman in Black is about as traditional of a horror film as you can get, Horns is the least, and a film like Frankenstein falls into the adventure category more than anything else. I hope it’s going to be a great film. I can’t explain my attraction to dark material, but I don’t think it’s going to end soon."

Finishing up, Hill added the following about working with Aja: "I don’t feel like [Alex] directed a film; he painted one. Every novelist I’ve ever met has said what they really want to do is direct and I think it takes a particular visual talent and the ability to take a beating because there’s a lot of people that will question your choices. And to do anything good, you have to have the courage of your convictions. Aja has that."

Directed by Aja (High Tension, Mirrors, Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes) from Keith Bunin’s script, Horns stars Daniel Radcliffe, Max Minghella, Juno Temple, Joe Anderson, Kelli Garner, and James Remar.

Look for Horns on October 31st in both the US and the UK.

Synopsis:
Horns, a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery, and romance, follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Temple). Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

This rock and roll infused dark fantasy explores why bad things happen to good people and what the loss of true love can do to a man. The widely acclaimed book was on the New York Times bestseller list for six weeks and has become an international bestseller as well.

#SDCC14: The Soska Sisters Amass a Big Show Sized Body Count in VendettaWWE Studios' next film with the first ladies of horror, Jen and Sylvia Soska (See No Evil 2, is going to be Vendetta, starring WWE Superstar Paul "The Big Show" White, and it sounds like we're in for one hell of a giant-sized bloodbath!

"We honestly couldn’t have finished Vendetta if there was just one of us," Jen says of being able to have her sister assist her with directing. Given that they pretty much share the same mind, it allows our favorite twisted twins to divide and conquer.

Jen continues, "We were watching our editor’s edit of it, and there were scenes that I had never seen because we had different units and shot the movie and rejoined. We shot in 15 days, we killed 47 people, it was insane."

Yep, we are so fucking there.

About Vendetta
The popular directing team of Jen and Sylvia Soska (SEE NO EVIL 2, AMERICAN MARY) return to the WWE Studios and Lionsgate fold to direct VENDETTA, the first installment of the “Action Six-Pack” series, which will feature WWE Superstar Big Show. Written by Justin Shady, VENDETTA centers on a hard-nosed detective who deliberately commits a crime to get thrown in prison, allowing him the chance to seek vengeance upon the criminal serving a life sentence for having brutally murdered the detective's wife.

“This collection of six high octane films will not only excite our fans but provide a stage for emerging and talented filmmakers like the Soska Sisters,” said Michael Luisi, WWE Studios President, when announcing the film. He added, “We couldn’t have a better partner in this enterprise than Steve Beeks and the team at Lionsgate, who have been great teammates and are proven distributors of this genre.”

WWE Studios and Lionsgate previously collaborated on THE CONDEMNED and SEE NO EVIL, as well as the upcoming 2014 releases LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS and SEE NO EVIL 2. #SDCC14: Alexandre Aja Offers Update on Scanners TV SeriesIt was during the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con when it was first announced that the Weinstein Co.’s Dimension Films was developing a TV show based on David Cronenberg’s 1981 cult classic Scanners with director Alexandre Aja serving as executive producer.

Today during the press conference for Horns, we got a quick update from Aja on where the show is at.

"I’ve always been a huge huge fan of Cronenberg and especially Scanners," says Aja. "I think it’s one of the best worlds and best universes created. There’s been a few years where I’ve tried to figure out a way to create a TV show. Hopefully, next year here at the same place we’ll be revealing a lot, but yes, but this is definitely something I want to do next."

"It’s gonna be so good your head’s gonna explode," chimed in author Joe Hill (also on the Horns panel with Aja) with a laugh.

Stay tuned, kids.

#SDCC14: Universal Developing Locke & Key TrilogyWatching Joe Hill's Locke & Key go from page to screen (big or small) has been nothing short of an exercise in frustration. That being said, some good news has come out of the San Diego Comic-Con regarding the haunting property.

During the Horns panel at the SDCC Hill revealed that Universal Pictures is currently developing Locke and Key as a trilogy.

Albert Torres has been tapped to write Locke & Key, Universal’s adaptation of the award-winning supernatural comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Bobby Cohen are to produce, as is Ted Adams, the CEO and publisher of IDW Publishing, the company behind the comic.

Locke & Key tells of three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know (but they soon will) that a devious demon also wants the keys.

An adaptation was previously tackled by Fox TV, which shot a pilot but never moved beyond that.

Universal’s Jon Mone and Jay Polidoro are overseeing the project for the studio. Ben Kim is handling development for Kurtzman and Orci’s’s K/O Paper Products.

Torres wrote the 2008 Luke Wilson dramedy Henry Poole Is Here and is now tackling heavy-hitting tentpoles. He worked on a draft of Warners’ Akira and Silver Pictures’ Ben 10 as well as Hyde, an adaptation of a Dark Horse comic from Paramount and Skydance.

However, this has not slowed the new title from Bandai Namco down, as it has announced its presence with authority at this year’s Comic-Con, by revealing the game’s pre-order bonuses and showing off a fantastic new trailer.

Those in the Americas who pre-order Lords of the Fallen will automatically be upgraded to the game’s limited edition. The limited edition will include; an official game soundtrack, The Monk’s Decipher DLC, and the demonic weapons pack that includes a set of very evil looking daggers, a war hammer, and a sword.

All that is known of the Monk’s Decipher DLC is that it will allow players to uncover hidden secrets found within the game.

The new trailer, titled Sins, is brilliantly cinematic, and follows the game’s “resident badass” Harkin as he takes on some of the most hellacious enemies in recent memory. Swords, axes, bladed bracers, and of course the blood, flies in this reveal of the other world demons that await in Lords of the Fallen. “There’s a bad moon on the rise,” indeed.

Lords of the Fallen arrives on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 28. This puts it in direct competition with the two other RPG’s coming to consoles this fall; Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor on October 7th, and Dragon Age: Inquisition on November 18th.

#SDCC14: Behind the Scenes With The Cast of Alien IsolationIf you’re a horror game fan, this fall is going to be hotter than a Sumerian summer. Two massive titles are set to hit console in the pre-Christmas season, and one of them, Alien: Isolation, just released a new video.

Instead of game footage, this video shows some behind-the-scenes moments with the cast of the original Alien and some of their thoughts on video games and the enduring quality of the film. Everyone from Sigourney Weaver to Harry Dean Stanton makes a quick appearance.

This was no doubt done to encourage people to pre-order Alien: Isolation, which comes with the Crew Expendable and Last Survivor DLC featuring the cast of the original film. Both DLC packs recreate scenes from Alien and should be a big enough incentive for any horror fan to pre-order the upcoming game.

Alien: Isolation is a first person survival horror game where players must traverse a space station in solitude. Well, not total solitude, there is one guest. A gigantic Xenomorph that wants to know what your insides look like. You will need to use all of your wits, not just to succeed, but to survive.

Alien: Isolation will be released on October 7th, a short one week before the new title from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami releases, The Evil Within. Both titles will be available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

#SDCC14: Behold Rob Zombie's Assassin's Creed

#SDCC14: Behold Rob Zombie's Assassin's CreedThe French Revolution is the setting for the upcoming entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Unity. With such a large and historic backdrop for a game, developer Ubisoft wanted to provide fans with a bit of a back story for what has been dubbed “the first next-gen game.”

A short video would have been fine, but they went way beyond the call of duty by having one directed by Rob Zombie. For telling the story of a time filled with death, Zombie is perfectly suited for the task.

Now, before the comments of “Lords of Salem sucked” and “he ruined Halloween” come pouring in, this video is a return to Zombie’s previous modus operandi of sheer, unadulterated, and explicitly pornographic violence. It very much has the feel of The Devil’s Rejects rather than the art house air of his recent work.

#SDCC14: The Originals Season 2 Trailer and Highlights from the Panel

#SDCC14: The Originals Season 2 Trailer and Highlights from the PanelOn Friday, July 25th, it was The CW's upstart "The Originals'" turn to hold court in Ballroom 20 at Comic-Con, and along with revealing the Season 2 trailer (which of course you can see here), the powers-that-be provided a few tidbits of what's ahead in the upcoming season.

The premiere is titled "Rebirth," and while most the characters will be trying to start over, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) only wants one thing: "violent, bloody, merciless revenge." Meanwhile, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will struggle with being a hybrid.

But they may be able to hold their daughter again... We will see Rebekah (Claire Holt) at least one time in Season 2, and it'll be within the first three episodes. However, the writers are still working out a plan for reuniting baby Hope and her parents.

Look for this season to have, as writer Michael Narducci put it, "a dark, warped fairy tale component." Davina (Danielle Campbell) will develop feelings for a powerful witch played by newcomer Daniel Sharman, but he may not be trustworthy.

Things really turn explosive when Mikael and Esther return, forcing our heroes to deal with their "monstrous parents" and what that means to them.

As for the inevitable questions about an "Originals"/"Vampire Diaries" crossover and the never-ending Klaus-Caroline shipping, exec producer Julie Plec gave her stock answer of waiting for "an organic opportunity to bring [them] together,” acknowledging there still may be “unfinished business” between the two characters. Personally, I say leave them apart.

In any event, here's the trailer. Look for lots more soon as we approach the show's Monday, October 6th, Season 2 premiere.

Chinese Film The House That Never Dies Turns Real Haunted Mansion into Tourist Attraction

Chinese Film The House That Never Dies Turns Real Haunted Mansion into Tourist AttractionPlenty of movies here in the States have of course been inspired by allegedly true paranormal events, from The Amityville Horror to The Conjuring.

A sure sign of the success of such films is when the haunted houses at the center of them become tourist attractions in the wake of their release, which is something that's going on big time over in China this weekend.

As reported by The New York Times, this past Thursday night marked the theatrical release of a film called The House That Never Dies (Jingcheng No. 81), which quickly became a smash hit at the Chinese box office. The 3D horror flick has already pulled in $25.7 million, putting it third on the domestic charts.

Like the aforementioned films before it, The House That Never Dies was based on the real-life legend of a mansion in Beijing known as Chaonei No. 81. According to stories, the house was built in 1910 and is haunted by the ghost of the mistress of a Kuomintang official who hanged herself there, after her lover abandoned her following the Communist victory in 1949.

Long since abandoned, the mansion on Chaoyangmen Inner Street has been somewhat of a tourist attraction over the years, though the release and subsequent success of the film has essentially turned it into China's version of the infamous Amityville Horror house.

Upwards of 500 fans per day have been visiting the house in the wake of the film's release, exploring the grounds and taking photos. So populated has the area become that the building's owners were forced to close up a gate at the entrance of the compound, to keep people out.

Directed by Wai Man Yip, The House That Never Dies stars Francis Ng, Ruby Lin, Tony Yang, Monica Mok, Amanda Qin and Li Jing.

The film follows Xu Ruoqing, a woman whose presence in the notorious mansion draws up the spirits that have taken residence there.
