“Demon’s Revenge” Synopsis:
In the summer of 2008, Tiffany McKinnon; her boyfriend, Billy Quattlebaum; and his daughter, Georgia, move into a 200-year-old farmhouse in the small town of Franklin, Virginia. Soon after, Tiffany discovers that the spirit of a freed slave is haunting the home, and she is determined to make peace with him. But there is another entity hiding in the shadows, tormenting the family and threatening their lives. Determined to stay in the farmhouse, Tiffany seeks help from a paranormal investigative team and the church, hoping to expel the evil that lurks there.

Former WWE Superstar Adam Bomb (Bryan Clark) is The Axeman in Axeman 2: Overkill; Full Cast Announced

0
0

Axeman 2: Overkill Gearing Up to Start ChoppingJoston Theney dropped us a line with the complete casting news for the sequel to his flick Axeman, which hit DVD a few weeks back. Read on for the latest details regarding Axeman 2: Overkill.

From the Press Release
Blood Red Films and the filmmakers of AXEMAN 2: OVERKILL, the next installment in the 80’s throwback slasher franchise, are pleased to announce the cast of the film, which picks up the story where the original 2014 film AXEMAN left off.

This new chapter in the Axeman at Cutter’s Creek saga has the goal of being darker, grittier, and bloodier than the original.

The exciting cast of the film, which is written and directed by Joston “El Rey” Theney, includes an all new actor in the iconic villain role of Bill “The Axeman” Talbert. Playing the titular character is former three-time World Champion, WWE’s “Adam Bomb”/ WCW’s “Wrath,” also known as Bryan Clark (pictured). Well aware of the new direction in which executive producer Christopher Otiko and the team at Blood Red Films were looking to take the franchise, Theney knew Clark was perfect for the role. He describes the 6’6” behemoth as having “the most menacing 40-yard stare” he’s even seen. “Just like me, he’s a warm, good ol’ boy from the South, but he has an uncanny ability to flip the switch and become this massive, imposing, and terrifying figure,” Theney went on to say.

Farrah Abraham of former “Teen Mom” fame has been cast as Fannie Rae Baker, a Bible-thumping Evangelical Christian on her way with her husband and friends to the Crimson Cross’ Christian Couple Camp when The Axeman shows up to separate - and dismember - them. Abraham describes Fannie as, “an Uber Bible Thumper – getting a little radical about the Bible and taking the words farther than the way God intended.”

Rounding out the cast of crazed Christians are Allen Merritt (The Dark Knight Rises) as Fannie Rae’s hick husband, Jim Ed Baker; Arielle Hader as Fannie Rae’s best friend, Irma Jean Manly; and Edward Gusts as David Manly.

Angelica Bridges (“Baywatch,” “The Bold and The Beautiful”) has been cast as the money-hungry mercenary Dungie. “Big Brother” reality show winner Rachel Reilly joins the cast as the tough as nails, double-crossing Breaker.

Arielle Brachfeld reprises her role as reluctant hero Deputy Darlene Whitfield as well as Joston “El Rey” Theney in his surviving role of the affable, death-defying Darren Cole. Rounding out the cast as of this release are Monique Parent (The Profane Exhibit), Jacqui Holland (My Best Friend's Girl), Maria Olsen (Paranormal Activity 3), Alisha Seaton (The Fourth Kind), Whitney Nielsen (Children of Sorrow), Hanna Landberg (Rabid Love), Michael Foster, Sasha Higgins, Linda Wong, and Craig Partamian.

The film is a collaboration between Christopher Otiko’s Blood Red Fims and Joston “El Rey” Theney’s #SinningWorks. Theney writes, directs, and produces the film while Otiko co-writes and executive produces. AXEMAN 2: OVERKILL will receive a theatrical release in 2015; release date and locations TBA.

Death Is Beautiful in the Official The Divine Tragedies Artwork

Death Is Beautiful in the Official The Divine Tragedies ArtworkIt's been a few months since we've gotten an update on Jose Pendres'The Divine Tragedies, but our patience has paid off because today we have some new artwork and a few stills to share!

From the Press Release:
Film production company Dual Visions has completed the official artwork for the serial killer fever dream The Divine Tragedies, which shows a partially disguised character from the film.

This horrifying crime thriller is loosely based on the Leopold and Loeb murder case, in which two brothers murdered a young 14-year-old boy. This case shocked citizens of Chicago in 1924. Now, writer/director Jose Prendes (The Haunting of Whaley House) is re-envisioning the case for a new audience.

The official artwork shows a wounded young woman and rose petals. The blood reds highlight the darker elements of the film, and the tagline promises murder: “Your death will be... beautiful.” But who will be the first victim? Deep blues also contrast the lighter colors with a butterfly symbolizing transformation. Graphic artist Sasha Burrow and photographer Matt Shapira have designed this artwork to show the nature of the film, which is both bloody and strangely beautiful.

The Divine Tragedies has completed filming, and brothers/producers James and Jon Kondelik are hoping to release the title before audiences later this year on the film festival circuit. Fans of horror will have a chance to see some of the most famous faces in the genre on the big screen, including Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), Lynn Lowry (Cat People), Barbara Crampton (You’re Next), and Sean Whalen (People Under the Stairs). Fans will not have to wait long to see the film as its World Premiere is set to be announced shortly.

Look for a trailer soon!

Synopsis:
The Divine Tragedies, based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, tells the tale of Charles Brubaker and his half-brother, Thomas Lo Bianco, who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder. And when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives, they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

TIFF 2014: A Trailer Arrives Over Your Dead BodyPlaying as part of the Toronto International Film Festival's Vanguard programme is the latest flick from legendary Japanese director Takashi Miike, entitled Over Your Dead Body. We have every pixel of the flick's trailer right here for your perusal. Dig it!

Over Your Dead Body - Takashi Miike, Japan - International Premiere
A star, Miyuki Goto (Ko Shibasaki), plays Oiwa, the protagonist in a new play based on the ghost story Yotsuya Kaidan.

She pulls some strings to get her lover, Kosuke Hasegawa (Ebizo Ichikawa), cast in the play even though he's a relatively unknown actor. Other performers Rio Asahina (Miho Nakanishi) and Jun Suzuki (Hideaki Ito) lust after Miyuki. Off stage the cast's possessive love and obsessions exist as reality. Trapped between the play and reality, the cast's feelings for each other are amplified.

When it becomes clear that love is not meant to be both on and off stage, love turns into a grudge and crosses the blurred line between reality and fantasy.

Things Get Grimm in The LibraryAnyone who's ever read a true fairy tale from The Brothers Grimm can assure you of one thing... they're not necessarily for children, and some of them are damned scary to boot! So what's next for these ancient terror tomes? A trip to The Library should yield some scares!

THR reports that Mythology Entertainment, the production company run by Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and Laeta Kalogridis, has teamed with comic company Zenescope Entertainment to adapt the latter's title The Library, a spinoff from Zenescope's Grimm Universe series.

The story follows the adventures of a teenage girl and her brother as they accidentally unlock various portals within an historic library that physically transport them into the strange worlds of the books that surround them.

No writer is attached at this stage.

Zenescope, launched in 2005, focuses on many fairy tales and folk tales as well as myths with modern twists and sensibilities. Grimm Fairy Tales is its flagship title.

Sinister 2 Is Looking to Make YOU a Star

Sinister 2 is Looking to Make YOU a StarIn Chicago and need something to do after you finish your delicious deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati's? Fan of the movie Sinister? Want to be IN THE SEQUEL? Then this one is for you, kids! Drop your burger from Kuma's and read on for details.

According to The Chicago Tribune: "Sinister 2” needs kids and teenagers to serve as extras when the sequel begins filming in the Chicago area next month.

Joan Philo Casting is looking for 7- to 18-year-olds of all shapes and sizes and an overweight male 12-15 years old, according to Facebook.com/Sinister2Extras.

But before you sign up, little Johnny, there are a few things you should know.

The original “Sinister” was a rated R horror film that involved hangings and the terrifying Mr. Boogie. And as the Facebook page pointed out, extras in the sequel may be required to act in scary scenes that are “graphic in nature” and involve “blood and disturbing themes.” So if your kid is squeamish or scares easily and you don’t feel like paying for their therapy, this probably isn’t a good fit.

“Sinister 2” is also looking for men and women in their 30s or 40s to play parents for one- or two-day scenes — specifically Caucasian model types, Caucasian church-going types and Latino, Asian or Middle Eastern working class types. If you don’t fall under any of those categories, the film needs extras 6-80 years old of all ethnicities and body types. In other words, they’re not picky.

The Facebook page said filming will take place August 18 through the end of September in Grant Park, Kankakee and St. Anne.

Focus Features will release Sinister 2, the sequel to the micro-budget horror hit, wide on August 21, 2015. Ciaran Foy will direct the follow-up, which Scott Derrickson, the director of the first Sinister, is writing with C. Robert Cargill.

Derrickson and Cargill also wrote the original film. eOne is financing the project, which Jason Blum is producing via his Blumhouse Productions banner along with Derrickson. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Charles Layton, and eOne’s Xavier Marchand and Patrice Theroux are executive producing.

Sinister 2 is the sequel to the highly praised original film starring Ethan Hawke, which grossed more than $87M worldwide off of a $3M budget. The move to build the Sinister franchise follows in the footsteps of Blumhouse’s successes with the Paranormal Activity and Insidious series of ultra-low-budget genre hits.

The new film, tentatively titled Tremors 5, is currently casting for a September kick-off in South Africa.

Is 1987 Slasher Film Slaughterhouse Coming to Blu-ray?

0
0

Is 1987 Slasher Film Slaughterhouse Coming to Blu-ray?While many films prospered during the DVD era, the slasher subgenre is being treated with more love and respect in this Blu-ray age, and that suits me just fine! Case in point: The 1987 slasher flick Slaughterhouse will see an HD bow sometime next year.

We don't know who's releasing this little gem yet, but we were tipped off by a post on metal band Mortician's Facebook page:

So today I received a message from Rick Roessler, the producer and director of the cult classic film "Slaughterhouse," requesting the use of the Mortician song "Slaughterhouse" for inclusion in the ending credits of the Blu-ray release of the film. Where do I begin? Um... how fast can we say yes? Since that is a Relapse Records owned song, they will have to deal with them, but we of course said yes and hope it happens. Oh yeah and in case you didn't catch that... Slaughterhouse is coming to Blu-ray next year! All I can say is, "At least you made good clean cuts."

This is weird news. To my knowledge, Mortician's song was not part of the film's original soundtrack (in fact, the IMDb credits all music to a band called Vantage Point).

I would have wagered that the wonderful folks at Vinegar Syndrome would have been prepping Slaughterhouse for HD as they've got a 4k scan of Graduation Day en route this September and are currently working on a 4k release of Madman for next year. But changing a film's soundtrack doesn't seem like something they'd do.

And that goes for Synapse, Scorpion and Scream Factory as well, despite the fact that all of these labels have been giving the slasher subgenre some wonderful love of late.

It's still early, and we'll try to dig a little deeper on this. I'm glad that Buddy's coming to Blu-ray with an axe to grind but a little less enthused when you consider that it could be by way of an altered soundtrack.

Hang on to those Program Power DVDs, folks. Their value could be going through the roof.

Casting Under Way on Scream TV Series; Three Possible Stars Revealed

Casting Under Way on Scream TV Series; Three Possible Stars RevealedWhile the Scream movie franchise has reached a standstill, the spin-off TV series is coming along smoothly with casting currently under way. On tap for you today are the first details so read on!

Per Up and Comers, John Karna, Carlson Young ("True Blood"), and Amadeus Sarafini are among the top choices to lead MTV’s one-hour series pilot based on the film franchise.

Young is said to be the top pick to play Brooke Maddox, a 16-year-old who is described as the high gloss queen bee who thinks she’s nice and the world’s just reading her wrong, capable of being bubbly and seemingly genuine and also capable of being ferociously sexy.

No word yet on what roles the other young actors are up for.

A source also told the site that some of the casting has already been completed and that at least one of the main characters will not survive to see the end of the first season.

The pilot episode, set to be directed by Wes Craven, will center on a viral YouTube video that captures protagonist Audrey in the middle of murder and the town's troubled past.

Below you'll find the casting breakdown for the series, which gives you an idea of the characters you can expect to see on the show!

Harper Duval: A 16-year-old beauty “who’s a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterfly” but has nevertheless been anointed by the popular crowd to be one of their own. “She feels guilty that she has drifted away from former best friend Audrey,” but at least she’s got a "Gilmore Girls"-esque relationship with mom Maggie to keep her sane.

Audrey Jesen: Harper’s former BFF is described as “the bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastor” who’s “more arresting-looking than pretty.” This “artsy loner” dreams of being a filmmaker and shares a close bond with tech genius Noah.

Noah Foster: Audrey’s closest confidante is “creative, brilliant, and tech-savvy enough to be the next Steve Jobs.” Lucky for him, he’s got a great sense of humor (“a la John Cusack in his teen prime”) that helps him navigate the halls of his high school. What’s more, Noah possesses “an encyclopedic knowledge of books, films, TV, apps, etc.”

Margaret “Maggie” Duval: Harper’s mom, in her early to mid-40s, is the town’s medical examiner, “a grown-up science geek who plays down her beauty.” Maggie spends a lot of her time trying to make up for the fact that Harper’s dad abandoned them. Oh, and she’s harboring “a dark secret from her past.”

The Originals' Claire Holt Heading to NBC's Aquarius

The Originals' Claire Holt Heading to NBC's AquariusDespite announcing this past March that she's leaving "The Originals" as a series regular in order to spend more time with her family, Aussie actress Claire Holt has just joined another project: NBC's "event" series "Aquarius."

Per Deadline, Holt will play Charmain Tully, a beautiful young police officer whose attempts to be taken seriously in the male-dominated world of the LAPD in 1967 aren't met with much success.

"Aquarius" also stars David Duchovny, Gaius Charles, Grey Damon, Michaela McManus, David Meunier, Emma Dumont, Chris Sheffield, and Gethin Anthony.

Synopsis
It’s 1967, and the era of free love, drug experimentation, and the Vietnam War is in full effect. When the teenage daughter of a respected lawyer goes missing, L.A. Police Sgt. Sam Hodiak (Duchovny) starts asking around. He soon discovers that the hippie kids he’s questioning don’t take kindly to cops, especially one with hair as short as his. Needing the help of someone they will trust, he partners with rebellious undercover cop Brian Shafe (Damon), a man who’s more comfortable rolling a joint than patrolling a beat.

It’s not long before they stumble upon a small-time cult leader seeking out vulnerable women to join his cause. From there, they follow this man’s trail down a rabbit hole of drugs, sex, murder, and cultural revolution. Little could they know, however, the guy they’re hunting will eventually become the killer we now recognize as Charles Manson (Anthony). He was a lost soul who desperately wanted to get into the music scene of the ’60s until something snapped. This is the show that will explore the cat and mouse game between him and the police that will go on for several seasons, ultimately ending with the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders.

Wesley Snipes Wants to Do Another Blade

Wesley Snipes Wants to Do Another BladeBack in 2004, before Dread Central was allowed to ejaculate its spunk upon the horror genre, Wesley Snipes was pretty vocal about not wanting to do another Blade movie after Blade: Trinity. Now that he's out of jail, his tune has changed... a lot.

"I’d be open to it," Snipes tells MTV regarding whether or not he'd return to the character. "We have some stones left unturned, and there’s some latitude for us to build on. I’d love to get back in the suit again and do some things that I’ve learned to do now that I didn’t know how to do then. I think we’re better at making that kind of a film now."

Amazing what the passage of time and incarceration can do for a person! He truly has been rehabilitated.

Kino Lorber Releasing Seventies Snake-Charming Carrie Clone Jennifer on DVD and Blu-ray for the First Time

Kino Lorber Releasing Seventies Snake-Charming Carrie Clone Jennifer on DVD and Blu-ray for the First TimeKind of a shame the Carrie remake wasn’t a bigger hit because part of me would like to believe that might lead to a remake of the obscure 1978 knock-off Jennifer. Thanks to Scorpion Releasing, “The Snake Goddess” will be reborn on Blu-ray.

Jennifer is the movie that answers the question as to what you would get if someone combined the bullied high school girl with magic powers seeking revenge on her cool kid tormentors premise (i.e., Carrie) with the social misfit with the ability to make animals do their bidding to get revenge against their tormentors trope (i.e., Willard).

Lisa Pelikan starred in the film (also known by the title Jennifer the Snake Goddess) as a shy young woman from a poor, rural family of Pentecostal snake charmers who finds herself the target of conniving rich kids at the snooty private school she attends via scholarship. They finally push her too far, forcing her to fight back using her parseltongue powers, including the ability to conjure forth a giant supernatural serpent.

Fairly unknown to most of today’s horror audience outside of grey market collectors, Kino Lorber has announced plans to license this forgotten 1978 American International Pictures production from MGM for its first ever DVD and Blu-ray release on October 14th. No further disc details at the moment. I strongly suspect this one is going to be bare bones.

The late Bert Convey and the even later Nina Foch co-starred in this nature gone amok teen revenge flick from Disney animator-turned-director Brice Mack. Here’s a spoiler-filled trailer just in case you thought giving away most of the movie in the preview was a recent occurrence.

Alex Kurtzman Ready to Wrap Up The Mummy

Alex Kurtzman Ready to Wrap Up The MummyFirst it was Len Wiseman who left Universal's proposed reboot of The Mummy. Then it was Mama director Andres Muschietti who flew the Eqyptian coop. Now, producer Alex Kurtzman is throwing caution to the wind and directing the flick himself.

THR reports that Kurtzman is in final negotiations to direct Universal’s reboot of The Mummy. Kurtzman, who with former writing partner Robert Orci wrote some of the biggest franchise players in the last decade, is already producing the movie with Chris Morgan.

Kurtzman and Morgan are weaving together a cinematic universe for Universal based on its movie monsters properties, and The Mummy is due to be the first one out of the gate, having a release date of April 22, 2016. The movie is important as it will set the tone and stage for the rest of the universe.

Plot details are being kept under wraps (*ahem*), but it’s understood that the new Mummy is set in the present and is not a horror play but rather an action-adventure tentpole with horror elements. It will also feature new characters and not rehash previous incarnations.

Jon Spaihts worked on the script, as did Kurtzman and Orci. Sean Daniel is also a producer on the project. Bobby Cohen is exec producer.

"Over the course of developing The Mummy, Alex has demonstrated such clarity and passion about this character and mythology," said co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum. "He knows why The Mummy has fascinated us for so long and how to bring that into an inventive, incredible new adventure. It became obvious that he is the perfect choice to be not only one of the narrative engineers of this new vision but its director as well."
