After helming the feel-inducing Will Smith flicks The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds, director Gabriele Muccino next heads into science fiction territory with Near Death, and on tap for you today are all the pertinent details!

Per Variety, Voltage Films has brought Muccino (pictured) aboard the sci-fi thriller, which centers on a near-death survivor who starts predicting future events and acting in bizarre ways while his wife notices the world itself changing all around her in impossible ways.

Fearing for her sanity, she investigates and uncovers a massive conspiracy that bridges space and time.

Muccino will direct from a script by Carter Blanchard, who recently signed on to write a new draft of Fox’s Independence Day sequel.

Voltage plans to begin casting in October.

Sherryl Clark and Joe Riley will produce alongside Voltage’s Craig J. Flores and Chartier.

If you think that you’re alone, think again. BioWare has released another trailer for its upcoming horror game, which is tentatively titled Shadow Realms. Not even eating Chinese food is safe in this new video as a man is attacked by strange lightning and explosions after having a bowl of rice.

He is doodling a circle, which, we learn through some art-house style editing, represents a ring of fire. The very same ring of hellfire was found in the game’s first teaser. This could possibly hint that the game has a hellacious undertone or could be completely overrun with the stuff of nightmarish legend.

The other-worldliness of the trailer seems to build on the previous teaser's theme of taking place during a nightmare, as it has a mystical feel. Nothing in it seems quite real. It very much feels like watching a Nightmare on Elm Street sequel.

The continued release of teaser trailers by BioWare is no doubt meant to pique interest ahead of this month’s Gamescom.

I shudder at the thought of being a victim. This very feeling has built the mega industry of horror. But to be food? That’s fear and helplessness on a whole new level. Nanai Games has tapped into the fear of being lower on the food chain by bring us The Green Inferno: Survival, a mobile game based on the Eli Roth film.

The game, much like the film, takes place after a plane crash in the Peruvian forest. You are tasked with protecting the eight survivors from wave after wave of flesh-ripping, intestine-chewing, genital-gorging cannibals.

Play will include various traps and weapons so you will need to develop a strategy if you don’t want to end up impaled on a roasting spit.

Nanai Games was founded by a group of Chilean enthusiasts and programmers, which include Nicolas Lopez, a collaborator of Roth’s. Nanai has also warned the public to expect more games based off Roth’s work in the future.

Talion, the lead character in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, is a bad dude, perhaps even badder than those found in the video game Bad Dudes. But to take on Sauron, he needs some help from his wraith companion, Celebrimbor, the great elven smith.

The gameplay trailer released today gives fans a closer a look at the powers that will be imbued into Talion's ghostly companion in Shadow of Mordor.

The heavy focus of the trailer is the wraith’s power to dominate its foes. Using this, Talion can bend the will of his enemies and gain useful information on their allies’ strengths, weaknesses, and, most importantly, what they fear.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor takes place on the night Sauron returns to Mordor. Players will take control of Talion, a Ranger of the Black Gate who has returned from death with the aid of a mysterious spirit of vengeance.

The boasting point of Shadow of Mordor is its nemesis system, which ensures that every encounter is “distinct and can evolve to become a personal archenemy through the course of the game.”

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will be released on September 30th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. It will be available for PC and on Steam October 2nd.

I think we just peed a little. Yes. Yes, we did. On September 16th The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition will be hitting stores, both online and beyond, and we have a look at the stellar artwork for you cats. We saw. We peed. We liked.

We don't know much about the release other than that there will be a four-disc Blu-ray package (that's right! four discs!) as well as a standard Blu-ray and DVD edition.

Could the four-disc version be the mysterious "Black Maria" (the name of the truck that saved Sally Hardesty from the Sawyer clan) edition everyone's wondering about? We think so, but just in case we have feelers out to Dark Sky/MPI to get you the skinny on that. Given Amazon's pricing (see links below), color us confused.

In 1973, Tobe Hooper, a cast of unknown actors, and a crew of Austin film students and recent graduates headed to Round Rock, Texas, in the middle of July. For the next 32 days they worked around the clock in 100-degree weather to make The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The movie became a huge hit on the drive-in circuit and eventually grossed $30 million. It was invited to the 1975 Cannes Film Festival Director’s Fortnight and was acquired as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Since then, it has become the eighth highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. In 2012 Sight & Sound magazine named it one of the 250 most important movies ever made.

Welcome to The Walking Dead: Escape, an interactive zombie obstacle course based on Robert Kirkman's graphic novels.

Dread Central was invited to be among the first people inside after the stadium had been turned into an apocalyptic landscape.

Attendees could opt for one of three spots:

Spectators, who get to hang out behind the barricades and laugh at the poor fools trying to avoid getting eaten.

Since we’re hardcore zombie enthusiasts, we decide to run the course as Survivors. All those George A. Romero movies were bound to teach us something about the apocalypse. We gear up for the run by drinking a ton of water and applying a tube of Fresh Balls™.

We are put into a small group where the military briefs us on the quarantine zone we are about to enter. Standard zombie movie procedure: Avoid the infected. Get from point A to point B. There is no time limit. Just survive.

And with that, the gates fly open and we haul ass into the apocalypse.

The walkers themselves have been made up by the KNB FX Group, adding an extra layer of authenticity. And with hundreds of undead shambling through the course, it’s virtually impossible to get through the entire experience without getting grabbed at least once. Along the way we encounter military officials and eccentric survivalists who give us a chance to catch our breath. But most of the 45-minute experience is spent running for our lives through the stadium, vaulting over bleachers, sliding under tables and jumping on cars to avoid the hordes.

We won’t dare spoil all the surprises that lurk inside, but needless to say we emerge exhausted with sweat pouring out of every gland except for our nethers (thanks, Fresh Balls™). If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that all critics of slow-moving zombies need to shut the fuck up. Navigating a zombie apocalypse is even harder than it looks.

The Walking Dead: Escape is currently touring the country and well worth experiencing if you’re a zombie enthusiast. Tickets can be purchased via The Walking Dead Escape website or on Tickets.com as part of a marketing partnership with Tickets.com.

Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver, the video game publishing label of Koch Media, announced today they are partnering to package, produce, and finance a screen adaption of the popular hit video game franchise Dead Island®.

Occupant plans to attach a filmmaker and fast track the project for a production start in Q1 of 2015.

Set on a tropical island resort, Dead Island revolves around a zombie outbreak and has become one of the most successful new video game IP’s in the last few years, selling over 8 million copies worldwide across all platforms.

“Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed, and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse,” say Occupant partners Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino.

"The Dead Island universe offers a rich and unique setting that can expand beyond the pure gaming experience. We are very much looking forward to seeing Dead Island open up to new audiences and showing off the fun everybody at Deep Silver has with this brand," says Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media.

Maintaining the franchise position as a worldwide phenomenon thanks to its iconic trailers, the latest installment of the Dead Island 2 trailer has made a strong start with over ten million views on YouTube since its reveal in June. The Dead Island 2 trailer (see below) managed to become an instant classic as did its famous predecessor back in 2011.

Things are crawling out of the shadows on a scale we've never seen before in the pilot for "Constantine," or at least that's what this latest promo for the upcoming series claims. Honestly, though, all we needed to know is that it's directed by Neil Marshall. Yep, we'll be tuning in come October!

About the Show:
"Constantine" follows enigmatic and irreverent Liverpool con-man-turned-occult-detective John Constantine, who is reluctantly thrust into the role of defending our world against dark forces from beyond.

Matt Ryan stars as the title character. The cast also includes Harold Perrineau, Angelica Celaya, and Charles Halford.

Reporting on Ghostbusters III news has become as enjoyable as kneeling at the side of the road to randomly rub gravel into your scalp. But alas... we're here to do it for better or worse. Next up... Sony has revealed its first choice pick for director.

According to THR, Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) has emerged as the frontrunner, and Feig has shown interest in taking on the project. Sources caution that no formal negotiations have taken place, and a lot must be worked out before the casual discussions turn serious and Feig accepts the job. But he is the studio's first choice. Sony declined to comment.

Of course they did.

As always, take this with a grain of salt, and also as always, expect more soon.

Etan Cohen penned the Ghostbusters III script, which is cut from the same cloth as the original films. The original Ghostbusters will have a very small role in the sequel. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who played Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, respectively, are expected to return, though Bill Murray's involvement is questionable.

It only takes one person to screw up something someone else said to ignite a firestorm of silliness on this crazy thing called the Interwebs. For instance, back in January(!) Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller was misquoted regarding whether or not Jason would return to the Friday the 13th franchise.

The original quote was as follows... When asked if Derek Mears was going to be back for the next film, Fuller replied, "I don't know because I don't know if we're going to have Jason. I don't know which Jason we're going to have. I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears; I love working with him, and he's a dream so we'd be lucky to have him."

Recently MovieWeb caught up with Fuller, who clarified.

"It was a misquote. I had just said, 'I don't know who would play Jason Voorhees. Because I don't know what age he would be, or how we would use him. Are we clear about that? That was the original context of the question. 'Is Derek Mears going to be playing Jason?' I said, 'I don't know who the character is going to be, or at what point in his life we are going to be engaging in him with.' Somehow that became, 'He's not going to be in the movie.' But of course he's going to be in the movie!"

Director David Bruckner (The Signal, V/H/S) was in talks to helm the new film, but nothing has been confirmed as of press time. Friday the 13th is slated to be in theatres on November 13, 2015.

After winning Best Canadian Feature at last year's Toronto After Dark, Silent Retreat is heading to DVD through Black Fawn Distribution. A Film Monkey Production's creature feature will be released in Canada on September 2nd, and we have all the details.

Septic Man Release Details
Starz Digital Media is set to release the award-winning horror film Septic Man this summer. The film will be available On Demand and for digital download August 12 and will have a limited theatrical run on August 15. The DVD will be available August 19.

From the creators of Monster Brawl, Exit Humanity, and 2014’s Hellmouth and Ejecta, Septic Man dazzled audiences at the 2013 Fantastic Fest, where its star Jason David Brown (Exit Humanity) won “Best Actor” in a horror feature. The film also garnered a prize at Toronto After Dark 2013.

Septic Man follows Jack, a sewage worker who is determined to uncover the cause of the town's water contamination crisis. During his investigation, he becomes trapped underground in a septic tank and undergoes a hideous transformation. He must team up with a docile Giant and confront a murdering madman in order to escape. Septic Man is an odyssey into the darkest depths of gross-out horror.

Septic Man was directed by Jesse Thomas Cook (Monster Brawl) and written by Tony Burgess (PontyPool). It co-stars Molly Dunsworth (Bunker 6, Hobo with a Shotgun) and Robert Maillet (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones).

Another found footage movie about a film crew encountering supernatural shenanigans is in production, but this one has a twist: Not only is it coming all the way from Germany, but it's also a slasher! Here's the first word on Paranormal Demons.

The film, which bills itself as "a mix of Paranormal Activity and Friday the 13th," is directed by David Brückner from a screenplay by Mario von Czapiewski. It's produced by Brückner and stars Roland Freitag, Annika Strauss, Manoush, and Michael Krug.

In addition, it was just announced that American shock rocker Demon Boy has joined the soundtrack.

Even though it's being shot in Germany this October, Paranormal Demons will be all in English and internationally sold. The project is fully funded but has a Startnext page with all excess proceeds going toward improving the quality of the film.

Synopsis:
A group of young adults interested in scary happenings want to film the first episode of their web show “Paranormal Demons” inside an old building that's been uninhabited for several years and is said to contain poltergeist phenomena. But after entering the mansion, they notice that they are not alone. Something is hunting inside the building, and his prey has just arrived.
