From Wild Eye Releasing and executive producer James Cullen Bressack comes the low budget indie horror anthology Dysmorphia. Each segment is directed by budding indie horror directors like Shane Ryan, James J. Coker, the Cousin Bros., Brenden Mitchell, Shawn C. Phillips, and Doug Waugh.

Synopsis
Struggling siblings discover their dead uncle's secret stash of lost horror films on videotape. The "tapes" feature demented solicitors, gruesome dares, parental murder, demonic technology, monstrous grapefruit, and more. The siblings eagerly watch each of the shocking, bizarre, comedic, and bloody horror films; but little do they realize that something very ghoulish and gruesome is about to happen to them.

On tap right now is the trailer and poster premiere for the new serial killer thriller The Calling, which is home to a pretty impressive cast that includes Susan Sarandon and Topher Grace. Read on for the goods.

Joining Sarandon and Grace are Gil Bellows (House at the End of the Street, The Shawshank Redemption), Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist, Requiem for a Dream), Christopher Heyerdahl (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, "True Blood"), and Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games, Invasion of the Body Snatchers).

The Calling was written by Scott Abramovitch and is directed by Jason Stone. Christine Vachon, Killer Films, and Randy Manis are producing.

Synopsis
Despite a bad back, a reliance on painkillers, and the occasional drink to take the edge off, Detective Inspector Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon) leads a tranquil existence sharing a home with her elderly mother, Emily (Burstyn), in Fort Dundas, Ontario. It is the epitome of a quaint and quiet town, but all of that is suddenly upended. As the interim commanding officer of an understaffed police force, Micallef, out on a routine call, discovers the grisly body of an elderly woman. The murder is shocking in its brutality.

As Micallef and her investigative team, including seasoned detective Ray Greene (Bellows) and new arrival to Fort Dundas, Ben Wingate (Topher Grace), learn of more victims in rural towns across the country, they realize they are tracking a serial killer driven by a higher calling. Dealing with small town bureaucracy while galvanizing her troops, she enlists the help of Father Price (Donald Sutherland) in her fearless pursuit of a religious madman they’ve come to know only as Simon (Christopher Heyerdahl).

It's been over 50 years since Herschell Gordon Lewis pioneered the art of the splatter film, and it thrills us to no end that his latest anthology film, BloodMania, has officially begun production. Color us blood red with joy!

Production has begun on a new major horror movie entitled Herschell Gordon Lewis’ BloodMania. Acclaimed horror genre director Herschell Gordon Lewis will co-direct the project.

BloodMania is being produced by HGB Entertainment Ltd. for Diabolique Films, the film division of the premier horror publication Diabolique Magazine. Mr. Lewis is internationally recognized as the originator of the contemporary splatter film, and he chuckles at being dubbed "The Godfather of Gore."

The producer of the film is Diabolique Films executive James Saito, and it is being shot in its entirety in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lewis explained his “co-director” role, an unusual relationship with the production company: “BloodMania is a series of four episodes, each one unique. I’ll personally direct two, and Benjamin Ross Hayden (Agophobia, 2013) and Kevin Littlelight the others. So I can promise a variety of ‘flavors to satisfy even the most ardent horror fans!’”

Asked whether BloodMania will be a step beyond any film either he or anyone has directed before, the answer was, as expected from this maverick director: “What do you think?” A major factor contributing to his reputation in the film industry is Herschell Gordon Lewis’ insistence on never repeating a theme. BloodMania, he promises, will set a new standard for, as he so eloquently puts it, “off-the-wall outrage, doused in a wild sense of humor!”

Producer Saito has assembled a cast of well-known Canadian actors and actresses as well as a crew highly skilled in special effects. “Enthusiasm is extraordinarily high,” he reports, “and much of that enthusiasm is the happy anticipation that our effects team will have the opportunity to participate in a motion picture whose potential is truly world-class. BloodMania is our gift to Mr. Lewis’ many fans and all fans of the horror genre.”

The release of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ BloodMania is set for the spring of 2015.

Fantastic Fest 2014 kicks off September 18th, and the first wave of programming has been announced. With films like Tusk, V/H/S Viral, The Babadook, and ABC's of Death 2 on the menu, it's one not to miss!

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Fantastic Fest is excited to announce the first wave of events, special guests, and film programming for Fantastic Fest 2014, taking place September 18-25 in Austin, Texas, at the newly reopened Alamo South Lamar and Highball.

Fantastic Fest is thrilled to open the fest with the US Premiere of Kevin Smith's dark horror-comedy TUSK. Smith will be in attendance for a red carpet gala screening and Q&A.

Immediately following TUSK, the world premiere of ABCs OF DEATH 2 will unveil 26 devilishly diabolical tales at Fantastic Fest with multiple directors from the horror anthology sequel in attendance, including Alejandro Brugués, Robert Boocheck, Lancelot Imasuen, E.L. Katz, Jerome Sable, Jen and Sylvia Soska, Jim Hosking, Larry Fessenden, Chris Nash, Steven Kostanski, and Julian Barrett. Following the premiere guests are invited to attend "A Bodacious Celebration: 26 Ways to Party," culminating in an epic food fight curated by Thu Tran of Food Party fame.

"My personal challenge each year is making Fantastic Fest the best week of the year for like-minded genre film obsessives," says festival founder Tim League. "With the resonance of a round number anniversary, all reasonable fetters are discarded. In 2014 we are taking no prisoners. This festival is going to set new boundaries of decadence, destruction, and debauchery."

For its 10th anniversary, Fantastic Fest is also going all out with celebratory events and special programming, including two tent pole showstoppers. Legendary film critic and historian Leonard Maltin joins proceedings as head of the comedy jury and to play "MALTIN'S," a game tournament of movie trivia twenty years in the making. "My brother and I were obsessed with Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide at an early age," said MALTIN'S creator and festival alum Ant Timpson. "His reviews shaped our own language and view of film. Elevating the comedic quota of Fantastic Fest programming is the addition of Comedy Central's breakout stand-up show "The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail." Hitting Austin for their first-ever Fantastic Fest performance, host comedians Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani explained why they want to be a part of the festivities: "We want to watch films, drink, and make people laugh."

Fantastic Fest also marks an important milestone for the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain with the grand reopening of its flagship destination at South Lamar and the all-new Highball. What's your favorite scary movie? If the answer to that question is Scream, then you're no doubt excited about the upcoming MTV series based on the films; and on tap for you today is the latest casting news along with a bummer of a director change. Read on!

Per Variety, Wes Craven will no longer be directing the pilot episode of the series with MTV officially tapping “Faking It” helmer Jamie Travis to take his place. It was originally reported that Craven would be handling directing duties for the pilot, and it's no doubt a disappointment that he's now off the project.

Actors cast in key roles for the reboot of the Wes Craven film franchise about a murder spree among teenagers are Willa Fitzgerald (“Alpha House,” “Royal Pains”), Amy Forsyth (Torment, “Reign”), John Karna (Premature, “The Neighbors”), Carlson Young (“Key and Peele,” “The Kroll Show”), and Amadeus Serafini.

Young is said to be playing Brooke Maddox, a 16-year-old who is described as the high gloss queen bee who thinks she’s nice and the world’s just reading her wrong, capable of being bubbly and seemingly genuine and also capable of being ferociously sexy.

No word yet on what roles the other actors have been cast in.

The pilot episode will center on a viral YouTube video that captures protagonist Audrey in the middle of murder and the town's troubled past.

Harper Duval: A 16-year-old beauty “who’s a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterfly” but has nevertheless been anointed by the popular crowd to be one of their own. “She feels guilty that she has drifted away from former best friend Audrey,” but at least she’s got a "Gilmore Girls"-esque relationship with mom Maggie to keep her sane.

Audrey Jesen: Harper’s former BFF is described as “the bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastor” who’s “more arresting-looking than pretty.” This “artsy loner” dreams of being a filmmaker and shares a close bond with tech genius Noah.

Noah Foster: Audrey’s closest confidante is “creative, brilliant, and tech-savvy enough to be the next Steve Jobs.” Lucky for him, he’s got a great sense of humor (“a la John Cusack in his teen prime”) that helps him navigate the halls of his high school. What’s more, Noah possesses “an encyclopedic knowledge of books, films, TV, apps, etc.”

Margaret “Maggie” Duval: Harper’s mom, in her early to mid-40s, is the town’s medical examiner, “a grown-up science geek who plays down her beauty.” Maggie spends a lot of her time trying to make up for the fact that Harper’s dad abandoned them. Oh, and she’s harboring “a dark secret from her past.”

Jill Blotevogel (ABC Family’s “Ravenswood”) is serving as showrunner on the pilot and exec producing with the Weinsteins, Craven, Marianne Maddalena, and Cathy Konrad.

2012 marked the release of Nicolas McCarthy's film The Pact, which many of us here at Dread were fans of. This Halloween season final girl Annie Barlow returns in The Pact 2, which has just been dated for release. Read on!

Directed by Dallas Richard Hallam and Patrick Horvath, the film stars Camilla Luddington ("True Blood"), Patrick Fischler (Mulholland Drive), Scott Michael Foster ("Californication"), Haley Hudson (The Pact), Mark Steger (The Pact), and Caity Lotz (The Pact).

IFC Midnight has announced a VOD roll-out on September 5th, followed by a limited theatrical outing on October 10th.

Synopsis

It's a damned shame this poster for Phobia came through just before lunch because it has made us lose whatever appetite we had. In the world of horror, though, that's a good thing! A VERY good thing! Check it out!

Image Entertainment, an RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand, has acquired all US rights to the horror action comedy WOLFCOP. Written and directed by Lowell Dean, the film stars Leo Fafard, Amy Matysio, Aidan Devine, Jesse Moss, Sarah Lind, Jonathan Cherry, and Corrine Conley.

The deal was announced today by Image Entertainment’s SVP of Acquisitions, Mark Ward.

“We are so thrilled to release this title and unleash the fuzz on audiences,” said Ward. “It’s a hilarious send-up of different genres that will take audiences on a wild trip.”

The deal was negotiated by Ward, and Managing Partners Michael Paszt and James Fler of Raven Banner Entertainment brokered the deal on behalf of the producers.

WOLFCOP follows Lou Garou (Fafard), an alcoholic cop who tends to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings. However, lately things have taken a strange turn. Crime scenes seem oddly familiar; Lou's senses are heightened; and when the full moon is out, he's a rage-fueled werewolf. WOLFCOP is one cop's quest to become a better man...one transformation at a time.

WOLFCOP is produced by Lowell Dean, Bernie Hernando, Deborah Marks, Danielle Masters, and Hugh Patterson and executive produced by J. Joly, Bill Marks, Brad Pelman, Sean Buckley, and Brian Wildeen.

Recent Image Entertainment releases include Devil’s Knot with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and directed by Atom Egoyan, Rage with Nicolas Cage and Danny Glover, and the horror sequel Wolf Creek 2.

I haven’t been awake for 15 minutes, and I’m already cleaning coffee off of my computer screen. All because I did a major spit take, spewing java and joy, when this news came over the wire. The original Resident Evil is getting remastered again, and it’s coming to consoles and PC.

The game will be based on the 2002 GameCube remake but will update the graphical output and display the visceral viscera in full 1080P on current-gen consoles. Last-gen owners will still see a quality visual experience at 720P.

Add on the 5.1 surround sound support, and this new look at a classic is veering into must play territory.

Graphical updates aside, developers have added new aspect ratio options to reflect modern gaming advances. Players can choose to play the game in its original 4:3 aspect ratio or select full 16:9 widescreen.

The static camera, a source of much frustration, has been axed in favor of a dynamic, moving camera; and the game’s very clunky controls have received an upgrade.

The game is releasing as a digital download sometime in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Wii U users will be left out of this update on one of the greatest horror games ever made.

2015 seems like the perfect release window for this game. Series creator Shinji Mikami is releasing his new game, The Evil Within, on October 14 and is said to be returning survival horror to its roots, focusing on survival rather than action and gunplay. After playing The Evil Within, gamers who missed out on Resident Evil the first two times around will get a chance to see exactly what he means. You don’t beat Resident Evil... you survive it.

Millennium Entertainment is proud to announce the home entertainment release of Ben Wagner’s (Southbenders) psychological horror film DEAD WITHIN. Audiences can own the chiller on DVD and VOD platforms on September 9, 2014.

Wagner, alongside the film’s stars Amy Cale Peterson (Southbounders) and Dean Chekvala ("True Blood", People Like Us), collectively wrote the screenplay with Matthew Bradford.

Set six months after a deadly outbreak that has all but ended the human race, a man and woman have survived by isolating themselves in a remote cabin and never opening the door. Now, they don't have a choice. Starved for resources, they must confront the horrors that threaten them…but what's inside may be even more toxic than what remains outside.

Halloween Horror Nights is kicking off soon, but that doesn't mean they're done announcing this year's mazes. Read on for the details of "AVP: Alien vs. Predator."

In collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are putting Halloween Horror Nights guests in the middle of an epic and primal war between the universe's most deadly species in an all-new, horrifying maze inspired by the cult sci-fi franchise AVP: Alien vs. Predator, beginning Friday, September 19, 2014.

AVP: Alien vs. Predator is a sci-fi horror franchise that brings together the two iconic species spawned from two blockbuster films, Alien and Predator, to create a terrifying crossover of eponymous monsters in a raging battle against mankind struggling to survive amid the chaos that ensues from these two vengeful creatures. To mark the 35th anniversary celebration of Alien and the 10th anniversary of AVP: Alien vs. Predator, Halloween Horror Nights guests and fans of these celebrated films will have a chance to live the horror of these diabolical beasts as they come face to face with the terror of Aliens and Predators.

"The introduction of AVP into the immensely popular Halloween Horror Nights is further proof of the indelible mark this incredibly powerful franchise has left on fans and the horror genre itself. Bringing AVP to life in a new maze is a perfect way to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the film as well as mark the 35th anniversary of Alien, the film that started it all and etched in our collective psyche the meaning of modern terror," said Greg Lombardo, vice president of global live and location based entertainment at Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. "We're thrilled to be working with Universal Studios to create mazes in Orlando and Hollywood that will bring fans face-to-face with the horrifying and iconic characters of AVP. The technology being leveraged will surely be a new benchmark and provide a uniquely terrifying and visceral encounter that puts guests right in the middle of an epic extraterrestrial battle for survival."

In Universal Orlando's spine-chilling maze, guests will find themselves thrust right into the middle of the primordial battle between the Aliens and Predators as they visit one of Weyland-Yutani's secret facilities to assist with a situation that has surfaced. Communication has been lost with a bio-weapons research facility in Central America which houses many divisions dealing in extra-terrestrial technologies, specifically the Alien Xenomorph species. Pieces of transmissions were received detailing that the facility has become compromised and another alien species called Yautja – commonly known as Predators - are hunting both the Xenomorphs and any human presence found. Guests will have to navigate through the labyrinth of destruction within the facility as they struggle to survive the ancient feud between these two deadly species.

The terrifying new "AVP: Alien vs Predator" maze at Universal Studios Hollywood will answer the proverbial question asked by mankind since the beginning of time: Are we alone in this dark, vast universe? "AVP: Alien vs. Predator" will once and for all shed light on the answer when it brings to life the violent creatures cohabitating in our world as it pits two rival alien species in a fight to the death with Earth as their battleground. This menacing maze will uncover a dangerous alien spaceship carrying a race of hunter aliens known as Predators and a threatening new alien life form that uses human hosts to propagate its species. After crash landing in a remote section of America and escaping to the countryside, the alien and predator become hunter and prey with guests caught in the crossfire.

Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights events have a more than 20-year history of creating incredibly entertaining, horrifying Halloween experiences that are consistently rated the nation's best. The events on each coast feature highly-themed, disturbingly real, haunted mazes based on everything from films to nightmares – and streets filled with hundreds of specially trained "scareactors." Other announced Halloween Horror Nights experiences include "The Walking Dead: The End of the Line,""From Dusk Till Dawn,""Face Off: In the Flesh," and "The Purge: Anarchy."

Director Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to announce that production on Jurassic World, the next film in the much beloved Jurassic Park film franchise, has wrapped! Even the T-Rex showed up to mark this auspicious occasion! Check it out!

In theaters June 12, 2015, this is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of the original Jurassic Park. Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) penned the script with Derek Connolly and directs.

Vincent D'Onofrio, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, BD Wong, Andy Buckley, Idris Elba, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, and Nick Robinson star. Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Pat Crowley produce Jurassic World.

While The CW still hasn't released the footage shown during the "Supernatural" panel at last month's Comic-Con, they have unveiled on the show's Facebook page the first Season 10 promo, which you can see right here.

In addition, Team Free Will locked down the official synopsis for the upcoming season as follows: Season 10 begins with Sam’s frantic search for his missing brother, who is gone without a trace. The road to recovering the wayward Dean takes Sam down dark paths with consequences that will shake the boys to their core.

Meanwhile, Castiel has to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Metatron’s campaign. With his grace failing and rogue angels still on the loose, Cas will face the ticking clock of his own mortality as all-new threats emerge to once again push all of our heroes to their limits.

The casting news continues for Vin Diesel's next movie, The Last Witch Hunter, as The Wrap is reporting that "True Detective" loony Olafur Darri Olafsson has signed on to play a male witch (a warlock?) in the film.

Michael Caine, Elijah Wood, and Rose Leslie co-star, and Breck Eisner directs.

The film centers on a semi-immortal witch hunter (Diesel) wandering the streets of modern New York City who is forced to partner with his natural enemy, a female witch (Leslie).

Mark Canton is producing via his Mark Canton Productions banner along with Bernie Goldmann and Diesel via his One Race Entertainment banner. Erik Feig, Geoff Shaevitz, and Matthew Janzen oversee the project for Summit Entertainment.

Synopsis
Five hundred years ago, war raged between humankind and witches, vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world. Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe, including Kaulder (Vin Diesel), a valiant warrior who managed to slay an all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments before her death, the Queen exacted her revenge by cursing Kaulder with immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. She had a smile that would light up the room and a scream that could chill you to the bone. It is with a truly heavy heart that we report on the passing of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre star Marilyn Burns.

TMZ broke the news about an hour ago that Burns was found dead today at her home in Texas. Burns was found by a family member in Houston, according to her rep, who adds they don't know a cause of death yet. The Medical Examiner's Office in Houston confirms they have Marilyn's body and an autopsy will be performed.

There have been conflicting reports of her age as either 64 or 65, but there's no doubt Burns became a cult superstar after the release of the 1974 horror flick. Her character, Sally Hardesty, is the sole survivor of Leatherface's bloody rampage. She had cameos in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and 2013's Texas Chainsaw 3D. She could also be seen in the 1976 TV movie "Helter Skelter," Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive, Future-Kill, and will last be seen in Josh Vargas' indie film In a Madman's World, which is currently in post-production.

Chris Roe, her manager, also confirmed the news to us directly: "It is with sad news that I can officially confirm that actress Marilyn Burns passed away earlier today. She was found unresponsive by a family member this morning in her Houston, Texas, area home. Her family asks for privacy at this time. Further details will be released later."
