BioWare Causes Destruction in Third Teaser Trailer

BioWare Causes Destruction in Third Teaser TrailerA downtrodden girl steps towards the brink. I’d swear she could double as an elven princess. She repeats, “It’s not my fault,” as she stares into the sinkhole containing a decimated house now lying in ruins below the surface.

This was the subject of the latest teaser trailer released by BioWare for a mysterious new title.

The new trailer breaks with the horror and nightmare theme of the previous videos that were released over the past month. Both were hinting that the game would be a horror title.

But this new trailer, bathed in sunlight, may have proven otherwise.

While the new bit of eye candy could still be the subject of a nightmare, Game Informer cited the line in the trailer, “Can you control your power?” and infers the trailer’s subject is “a young person apparently struggling with some kind of superpower.” This may mean that Xbox users will get a chance to play something that is similar to the Sony exclusive Infamous series.

BioWare’s third teaser comes less than a week ahead the Gamescom conference in Germany. Experts agree that these videos are to build interest ahead of a full reveal at the conference.

When the game’s first teaser was released, a tentative title for the game leaked, Shadow Realms, but the title has not been mentioned in any of the released material. That being said, the website YOU’VE-BEEN-CHOSEN.com has appeared in each one. But chosen for what? No one is quite sure yet.

An Ass-Shakin' Good Trailer for Attack of the 50 Foot CheerleaderFrom legendary producer Roger Corman, the director of Dinoshark, and the screenwriter of Sharktopus comes Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader, and the EPIX original movie is available NOW on various VOD platforms.

Kevin O’Neill directs. Former Georgia Teen USA 2007 Jena Sims stars as Cassie Stratford, an aspiring college cheerleader who consumes an experimental drug that grants her beauty and enough athletic ability to make the cheer squad. It also has a very unfortunate side effect that you should be able to ascertain from the film’s title.

Sean Young (Blade Runner) appears as Cassie’s mom, and Ted Raimi (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) plays a professor. Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000), Ryan Merriman (“Pretty Little Liars”), and Treat Williams (Deep Rising) also appear in this cheerily campy Corman creation.

Synopsis
Cheerleader Cassie Stratford (Sims) downs an experimental drug that’s supposed to enhance her looks and athletic abilities. But instead, it makes her grow into a 50-foot giant!

Film Adaptation of Anne Rice's The Tale of the Body Thief and More Back On at Universal

Film Adaptation of Anne Rice's The Tale of the Body Thief and More Back On at UniversalThus far adaptations of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles have been a mixed bag, but it looks like her fans have a lot to look forward to now that Universal Pictures has acquired movie rights to her entire The Vampire Chronicles series for Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment.

Per Variety, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are on board to produce. Imagine president Erica Huggins will oversee films based on the series for Imagine Entertainment, and Bobby Cohen will exec produce.

Even better, the deal includes the adapted screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief written by Rice’s son, author Christopher Rice. Both Anne and Christopher tweeted the news today, and we couldn't be more excited!

Rice's Chronicles as a whole include Interview with the Vampire (1976), The Vampire Lestat (1985), The Queen of the Damned (1988), the aforementioned The Tale of the Body Thief (1992), Memnoch the Devil (1995), The Vampire Armand (1998), Merrick (2000), Blood and Gold (2001), Blackwood Farm (2002), Blood Canticle (2003), and Prince Lestat (October 2014).

The series is centered on the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a French aristocrat living in poverty who became a vampire in the late 18th century. Both Interview and Queen of the Damned were previously turned into films, and while the former was quite good - and successful - the less said about the latter, the better.

Look for lots more soon!

New Sanctuary Trailer Is Quite a Conundrum

$

0

New Sanctuary DVD is Quite a ConundrumOn tap to kick off your Friday morning is the first trailer for the oddly titled Sanctuary: Quite a Conundrum. Do you wanna watch it? Can you get away with it? If you get caught, will you flip your desk over in disdain? That's a lot of things to think about. Take your time.

From the Press Release
SANCTUARY: QUITE A CONUNDRUM, the indie film that took the festival circuit by storm, garnering both critical and audience acclaim, comes home when Midnight Releasing, the leading purveyor in home entertainment horror, releases the thriller August 26th on DVD, VOD, and digital download.

With a fresh, hot young cast and a story that defies description (we’ll try, though), the winner of numerous festival honors will be available throughout North America via multiple platforms. DVD availability is set to include Walmart and most other retail and rental chains. On the digital side, the film will be available on all major and minor cable VOD channels as well as major internet platforms including iTunes, Amazon Instant, Vudu, Google Play, Xbox Video, Sony Entertainment Network, and others. SRP for the DVD is $14.98.

The directorial debut of Thomas L. Phillips, who also wrote, edited, and produced the film, SANCTUARY: QUITE A CONUNDRUM paints an unforgettable and truly bizarre picture of suburbia – with a brush dipped in blood! BFFs Mimi (Sasha Ramos) and Tabitha (Erin Nicole Cline) are holding a party at Mimi’s house while her father is away on business. Inviting her and Tabitha's boyfriends, Dutch (Joe Coffey) and Sean (Chris Greene), Mimi even allows her younger sister, Kylene (Emily Rogers), to invite her boyfriend, Harris (Anthony Rutowicz).

Selected for presentation at over 30 film festivals all over the world, SANCTUARY: QUITE A CONUNDRUM is well on its journey to becoming the next great cult classic. Awards include Winner Best Comedy at the 2012 Chicago Horror Film Festival, Winner Best Feature Film at the 2012 New York International Film Festival, Winner Best Horror/Thriller Feature Film at the 2012 Bare Bones Film Festival, and Winner Best Feature Film at the 2013 World Independent Film Expo.

"The movie is ready for the world to see, and I am ready for the world to see it," observed Phillips. "Let the reactions and word of mouth begin ‘cause I know for a fact that the word of mouth for a movie such as this will take it to a whole other level."

What starts as a typical pool party soon turns violent when neighbor Mark (John Lucas) shows up unannounced – completely naked and brandishing a gun. Forcing Mimi to admit to their failed tryst, Mark turns the gun on himself and falls dead into the pool. From that flash point starts a nightmarish odyssey for everyone involved. Soon secrets will be divulged, alliances will shift, and friendships will be tested. As the evening wears on, it becomes apparent that someone within their group might have tasted blood before...

Critics have chimed in with their approval of SANCTUARY as well. A Bucket of Corn declared, “It will forever leave a mark on your mind,” while waytooindie.com called the film “appalling, brash, and untamed.”

Jessica Cameron Talks Acting, Directing and a Cross-Country RV Trip

$

Jessica Cameron Talks Acting, Directing and a Cross-Country RV TripJessica Cameron is a success story. It was not that long ago that the beautiful up-and-coming filmmaker/scream queen was toiling away at a desk job she hated, wishing for something more.

Cameron chased that dream and is now an award-winning filmmaker. She recently sat down with Dread Central to talk about her newest projects.

So how, exactly, did she go from desk jockey to movie star? "Fluke," Cameron said.

She explained, "I went to school for fashion design. I've always been drawn to creative careers. I got hired out of my university by a major company, and for the first three months I thought everything was going fine. Then comes my first review and they have a big problem. I was shocked to learn that their problem was with my speech. They thought I spoke too fast. So they required me to take classes, and when I couldn't find any actual speech classes, my boss (my immediate boss thought the whole thing was a joke, but it came from my boss' boss) said, 'You know what, take an acting class and then just talk slow around the stupid people.' And that's exactly what I did and it worked."

Cameron recalled, "I was really lucky because I was having an early 20's panic attack moment where I was like, 'Oh shit, what do I do? I've spent four years and all this money studying something I hate…with a passion. Something that's not what it's like in school when you get in the real world. It's a boring office job. I'm a designer monkey. It's not like I was doing anything creative. I can't leave because I'm tied to a contract for years. What do I do?' Luckily for me, I turned to acting. I found something that was creative and challenging that I liked to do."

And from there Cameron was hooked. "I found it was only a month or two that I was just getting through my day job to get to my acting class. So after a couple years of taking acting classes, my coaches said, 'There are no more classes to take in the state of Ohio. You're going to have to just start working.' I said, 'I don't want to work. This is fun! I don't care if I make money. I do the other thing for money.' So they said there was nothing more they could teach me, I just had to go out and do it. So I just went out and did it. I started booking left and right and one thing led to another and I started doing everything I could on evenings and weekends. Productions would shoot around me, and if I couldn't make it, they would adjust my schedule so I could do everything on evenings and weekends. I left my job after a couple years on February 2, 2010, and I've been pursuing acting full-time ever since."

Since that time Cameron has landed all kinds of roles. She also recently released her directorial debut, Truth or Dare, an extreme film that's been getting extreme reactions. "People ask me all the time if I thought it was going to be an award-winning film and I thought absolutely not," Cameron said. "When you make a graphic, vicious, violent torture film that’s very fucked up, you don't know if you're going to be booed off the stage or kicked out of the theater or if people are going to run up and hug you. Luckily for me it was the latter."

Cameron continued on the film. "Truth or Dare was a lot of fun," she said. "It was a lot of hard work. As an actor, I'm not accustomed to working that hard. It's a lot harder to go behind the camera and direct everyone in front of the camera and deal with people behind the scenes. But it was definitely worth it. Getting to assemble a cast and crew I adore was definitely a great benefit."

And when Truth or Dare hit the festival circuit, the response was overwhelmingly positive. "I was really lucky; we started doing our festival tour last year and Truth or Dare immediately got a huge fan following, which is really fantastic," Cameron said. "We won some awards, which is kind of crazy. Five years ago, if you would have told me I was going to be the director of an award-winning film, I would have laughed and said you're wrong. So it's kind of funny to think now that's true. What's meant to be will always be. I never thought... when I was sitting in that room listening to my boss tell me how my speech was a problem, it never occurred to me that I was having a life-changing moment at that point, but I was."

So what does Cameron feel is the biggest difference between acting in front of the camera and directing behind it? "I just found out that directing is a lot more work overall," Cameron said. "There are a lot more pieces to the puzzle. I think not just as a director, but as a producer behind the camera, you're juggling more balls in the air versus as an actor when people let you focus on acting because it's something that requires your physical being as well as your mental being. It's just different, juggling the behind-the-scenes stuff. It's not one thing or another that makes it different, just everything as a whole. It meant that I was sleeping less than I normally do and the work is a lot harder than as an actor. But it's definitely worthwhile. I'm not afraid of hard work; it was something I didn't mind in any way, shape or form. Although I have to laugh when people say, 'Are you going to do it again?' I'm always like, 'Why the hell would anyone want to? It's way more fun to be an actor!'"

And as for acting, there is another hurdle Cameron faces. "The most challenging part for me is showing emotion to the world," Cameron said. "I'm not a very emotional person in my real life. I'm literally the last person to cry, no matter how big the tragedy. I can literally count the people on two hands who have seen me cry. It's not part of Jessica so letting go requires a lot of effort on my part."

Jessica Cameron

Jessica Cameron is part of an up-and-coming group of female powerhouses who are taking the horror world by storm. Cameron, Jen and Sylvia Soska, Tristan Risk, Devanny Pinn. All these gorgeous and talented women are making a name for themselves in the genre and all have something in common. "It's exciting for me, the person who's involved with it," Cameron said, "but when I step beck and objectively look at the state of horror today and where it's going, it's exciting because we're getting the unique concepts from people who just love the genre. Tristan Risk, myself, the Soska Sisters, Devanny Pinn…what we are first and foremost are fans. It's great that we're working, it's great that we're in these movies, but we started as fans. We fucking love horror films. I think that's what's going to make the difference. We worship the genre. Especially for those of us who are also involved in producing and directing and behind the scenes, it's not like we're just hired on for these films. We're actually taking content by the balls and forcing it in a certain direction, usually because we feel like it's something that's not being said or seen or done, which I think is exciting. I think we're going to get a lot of fresh, original concepts, which is crucial."

Cameron discussed how the quality of the film is much more important to her than any deadline or bottom line. "We're not trying to make the movie with the least amount of time, least amount of effort, least amount of money," Cameron said. "We're just trying to make the best film we can. Anything else doesn't matter. Love it, hate it…Truth or Dare does get a very strong reaction from audiences. If you hate it, that's fine. If you vomit, that's fine. As long as I made you feel something, that's all I want. I think the worst thing a filmmaker can do is make a movie that people leave and forget about in five minutes. I'd rather you hate it than forget it."

Switching gears and emoting as the fan she is, Cameron briefly spoke on one of her largest qualms with some horror actors. "I've met so many people that I was excited to meet and was upset by meeting them," Cameron said. "Because it's a job for them, it's a means to an end. It's a paycheck. It's 'I do this because I have to, not because I love it. ' And it's always very disheartening as a fan to meet someone whose work you've enjoyed and they just don't give a fuck. It's heartbreaking. It's like, if you don't like it, don't do it. No one is forcing you to act in a horror movie. And there are a ton of people for whom it would be life-changing for them to have that opportunity. So give it to them and go do whatever it is that you want to do."

Moving forward, Cameron's latest acting project, Save Yourself, was just completed. "Save Yourself, we just wrapped up in Canada," Cameron said. "I star in it and I produced it as well. We shot it in the Toronto area. It's with a wonderful Canadian director named Ryan M. Andrews whose other films are doing quite well. Tristan Risk from American Mary stars in it, too, which is great. It's the first time I've actually worked with Risky, even though we've known each other and been friends forever. So we're together onscreen, which is really cool. She's crazy in the best of ways."

Cameron continued, "It's a really fun script," Cameron said. "It's about a group of female filmmakers who are traveling down to LA for a film festival and on the way there they meet a mad scientist. Again, being able to get behind the camera a little bit and make these movies happen…When I first heard about this film from Ryan, I said, 'We have to make this movie. I haven't seen a good mad scientist film in I don't know how long. We need to be the ones to make it.' It's a great script. It has some great characters. It's a lot of fun. And really, bring the fun back to horror. It's not serious; we kill people. It's fun!

And now that Save Yourself is wrapped, Cameron is embarking on a large project for the next film she's helming."The next movie I'm directing is Mania," Cameron said. "John Higgins, who co-wrote Truth or Dare, wrote this amazing script about this wonderful lesbian couple where everything goes horribly awry when the one gal, her mania and her bi-polar act up to a severe degree and it causes her to accidentally kill a man and in a dark move, trying to maintain sanity, they go on the run a little bit to bring her back from the brink of mental instability only to realize that it's too late and there's nothing that can be done. It's a fun little script, kind of like Thelma and Louise meet Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. It's gonna be really sexy and really fun."

And as if filming one movie isn't enough, Cameron spoke about the filming plan for Mania. "We're going to be filming cross-country," Cameron said. "We're going to be shooting two movies back-to-back. We're going to shoot The Exiled by Brandon Slagle on the top loop and my film on the bottom loop. And we're going to film the whole adventure as Kill the PA, a documentary. So many people with Truth or Dare, anyone in the filmmaking industry, one of the first questions they ask me when they find out that I did this movie and the reception it's getting and what I had to work with, is, 'How'd you do it? How is this physically possible?' I'm much more of a 'show me' kinda gal so we're going to show you how we make a really strong low-budget film with minimal cast, minimal crew and a lot of passion. I'm really excited. And we're going to do it while we travel cross-country in an RV."

Cameron closed with one more comment on Mania. "I love the story," Cameron said. "The story is fantastic, but I'm not the right person to be in it so I'm producing and directing. But it's so great for Devanny (Pinn) and Heather (Dorff). They're going to be so great, they're really going to get to shine and it's such a fun, fucked up story. It's everything I love…sexy women, blood, gore, guts, unnecessary violence."

The Green Inferno's September Release Date Postponed

The Green Inferno's September Release Date PostponedEli Roth's The Green Inferno (review) is a film we've been waiting to see for quite some time now, and unfortunately it looks like we'll be waiting a bit longer as its anticipated September 5th release date via Open Road Films has now been postponed.

Per Deadline, financier Worldview Entertainment is balking at ex-CEO Christopher Woodrow’s commitment to provide the P&A (promotion and advertising) for the film. Open Road confirmed to the site that the release date is scratched but had no further comment.

Apparently Worldview has been going through a restructure since Woodrow's abrupt and largely unexplained exit, and the company, now run by Molly Conners, put a freeze on all of his commitments and is scrutinizing every deal that was made. Green Inferno has been caught in that snare.

Director Roth tweeted the news as well, explaining, "Everyone is working to solve this ASAP. Thank u for understanding!"

We'll keep you posted as further news comes in.

Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, and Sky Ferreira star in the film.

Synopsis
From acclaimed horror director, Eli Roth, THE GREEN INFERNO follows a group of student activists who travel from New York City to the Amazon to save the rainforest. However, once they arrive in this vast green landscape, they soon discover that they are not alone… and that no good deed goes unpunished.

Gremlins– 7″ Scale Action Figure – Mogwais Series 5 Assortment
Continuing the ever popular Mogwai series, we went deep into the vaults for this new assortment of cuddly creatures. These are concept Mogwais that were created by Rick Baker Studios for Gremlins 2: The New Batch.

Over the past 20 years the original puppets have turned up at auction or in the hands of private collectors. We gathered all known references to create three of these special Mogwai figures. This series includes Patches, Zoe, and Gary. Each Mogwai is articulated at the ears, neck, shoulders, forearms, wrists, and thighs and also features our signature poseable rolling eyeball mechanism.

Dying Light's New Trailer Will Kick Your Ass!

Dying Light's New Trailer Will Kick Your Ass!Axe to the head, axe to the body, axe to the neck, and a flaming axe to the back of the head. Zombies die in droves in the new Dying Light trailer, released days ahead of Gamescom. Aside from being exceptionally brutal, the trailer shows off a few of the game’s elements, most of all that it looks like a blood-soaked thrill ride on a roller coaster of zombie viscera.

Brutality aside, this astounding new trailer is the method WG Games chose to announce a brand new feature for Dying Light: four player co-op. In a game that will be very focused on picking your battles and running from trouble, terrain will play a gargantuan role.

The trailer takes the time to reveal a few terrain-related items in its bag of tricks: climb hotel signs, rush through a hole in a fence, and even use a grappling hook... all to escape a horde of zombies that quickly grew to unmanageable levels.

It closes by giving players a look at the game’s night cycle, where you become the hunted, as the zombies become more powerful and you must flee in nothing short of terror. This feature should provide some depth to the game as it will transition from action-oriented play to an unabashed horror experience. It looks like Dying Light will let you have your cake, boot fuck zombie skulls, and eat it too.

Dying Light was delayed recently but is tentatively scheduled for a February 2015 release.

When There‘s No More Room in Hell, The Dead Will Invade Counter-StrikeGet ready for zombie hell! Arguably the biggest online first-person shooter is about to be invaded by a horde of flesh-hungry undead. Nexon announced today that Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies will be coming to Steam later this quarter.

But the biggest gem in this Owen Hart-like nugget is that the game will be free to play. Kenny Chang, CEO of Nexon Europe, told IGN, “Both players who are new to the game, as well as those that have been logging on to classic FPS games for years, will be surprised with the new action it offers.”

This seems like a step in a more accessible direction for a series that is known to be an absolute soul crusher for newbies.

The zombies will be of the modern, running variety. This choice makes sense in a video game as it is meant to push the action and pace. Aside from having new creatures and weapons, Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies will feature new game modes. If for some strange reason you grow tired of killing zombies, you can enjoy the more traditional Hostage Rescue and Bomb Diffusion modes, ensuring that the game will have something for every Counter-Strike fan while keeping a foot firmly planted in the horror dimension.

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is due out in the third quarter of this year, which means either sometime this month or September.

Diablo 3 Will Run at 1080P on Xbox One

Diablo 3 Will Run at 1080P on Xbox OneXbox One is losing the war. Aside from PS4’s dominant lead in sales, games are routinely running at a lower resolution on Microsoft's console. While PlayStation gamers have received a gold standard 1080P for their games, Xbox fans have had to deal with a noticeable amount of titles with resolutions hovering just above the 900P mark.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls-Ultimate Evil Edition was charged to be yet another to receive a lesser fate on the Xbox One. Originally slated to run at 900P, it will now receive the full 1080P.

This graphical boost will come courtesy of a day one patch that will cause, as Tiffany Wat, associate producer at Blizzard, told Gamespot, “native 1080P resolution.”

Blizzard was able to make the upgrade due to the June Xbox One SDK that boosts the console’s GPU power. The Xbox One had reserved 10 percent of its graphical capabilities for their mandatory Kinect peripheral. Now that Kinect is no longer shipped with the unit, the Xbox SDK gave developers more capacity to use in their games in the hopes of catching up with the more powerful PS4.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls-Ultimate Evil Edition arrives on August 19th for PS4 and Xbox One. The game includes Diablo III and the "Reaper of Souls" expansion.
